This year it will also feature the Rustic Cowboy Mercantile, Draft Horse Feed Team Races and live entertainment on Saturday night provided by the West Wind Band. The new additions to the schedule will entertain cattlemen during opening weekend and provide some unique shopping opportunities.
On Monday, February 20th the Classic will host the National Cattle Dog Association Trial. The Classic has also organized a Career Fair for college youth on Monday. This event will provide students an opportunity to visit with nearly 50 businesses about careers in Agriculture and the Beef Industry. There will be a lunch provided for the students. During the luncheon students will hear from a panel of professionals with careers in Agriculture. The panelists will provide an insight to finding a job or internship.
The 2017 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic tradeshow will provide something for everyone in the family. The Classic tradeshow features displays from feed companies, banks, and livestock handling equipment, farm equipment, vehicles, semen companies, stock trailers, and unique shopping opportunities for the ladies. This year Tuesday, February 21 will be Commercial Trade Show Day at the Classic. The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic will have a drawing for $500 Classic Cash on this day. The Classic Cash will be a $500 credit that can be used at the 2017 Classic cattle sales. This new event is designed to provide cattlemen a day to enjoy the “specials” that the commercial vendors have for cattlemen. Another new event is the FCS/Prostart Cookin’ at the Classic. This is a Beef culinary competition for Nebraska High School students. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about beef cuts and cooking methods. Tuesday will feature the Classic Steak Cook Off and the social event of the “Battle of the Breeds” in the showring that evening. The ending weekend events are for the next generation of cattlemen. Saturday, February 25th features the prospect steer and heifer sales. These sales provide scholarship opportunities for youth. The Classic will present over $8,000 in scholarships to youth that purchased a steer or heifer at the 2016 sales. This program provides youth with opportunities to participate in feedlot tours, complete record books, and compete in an interview on their project. The Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic will conclude with a Livestock Judging Contest that will showcase the beef industry in Nebraska. There will be over 350 youth from all across the Nation attending this event. The final event will include the Junior Show for Nebraska 4H and FFA youth. Hope to see you at the Classic!

Reed has spent most of his life working on ranches in the sandhills. He shows a lot of cow, he has been pasture roped on, drug calves to the fire, and was calved off of. He is a powerful gelding who has enough endurance to last all day long. Currently he is in training to fine tune his roping skills and refine his riding. He is a good sized horse who is put together well and is a very smooth mover.
