Welcome to Your Fair ATH COUNTY F M A L K 8 AIR 201 Welcome

On behalf of the Klamath County Fair Board and Staff, we would like to welcome you to the 2018 Klamath County Fair. Let us entertain you with a fantastic carnival, daily entertainment, and great food offered by an outstanding group of Gregg Sherrill vendors. We have a wonderful concert in store for you with the new up and coming star, Cody Johnson, as well as 2 days of wild rodeo action. We would like to remind everyone that the dates of the Fair are August 2 through 5, 2018. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes the whole community to put on the fair. The 4-H and FFA youth have worked many long days and nights preparing to display their exhibits for you all to see. Please support them at the Rotary Auction on Sunday. There are many options to become involved in small and large ways. Talk to a Rotarian or stop by the Fair office to find out how. The Fair Board would like to extend our thanks to the dedicated staff at the fairgrounds and the endless 4-H and FFA volunteers. Without you, an event like this would be next to impossible. Please take time to visit all of the vendors and businesses that are here supporting our fair and enjoy all they have to offer on this fun filled weekend. In closing, we would like you to relax and enjoy the Klamath County Fair. Remember, “As you travel down the long road of life, take a deep seat, kick your feet forward, and look out for low branches.”

The eyes of a sheep are placed in such a way that they have a field of vision of around 300 degrees. This allows the sheep to see behind themselves without having to turn their heads. Found at: www.thefactsite.com Rules to live by: Your mother may have this same ability, so watch your step.

Enter Our Fun Facts $100 Drawing* - drawing details. 2017 Grand Champion Market Lamb Exhibited by: Kekoa Taipin Purchased by: R&L Hay & Grain $2,115

In each animal species barn, locate the Drawing Box and Entry Cards. To enter, you must fill out your contact information on the front of the card and on the back obtain the signature of a 4-H or FFA member who is showing that animal species at the fair. In the sheep barn you would get a sheep owner to sign your card and write down one fact about their sheep; it could be the breed of the sheep, the sheep’s name, the sheep’s weight or any fact you want to know. Then drop your entry in the box provided in the barn. Only one entry per species but you can enter for all eight species. The boxes can be found in the beef (1 box), swine (1 box), sheep (1 box), goat (1 box), and small animals barn (1 box for rabbit, turkey, poultry and duck combined). Explore the fair and learn some interesting facts. Winner will be announced during the Rotary Auction on Sunday afternoon. *Contest sponsored by Totalis Design & Print

by Tami Thompson Anna Aylett, the new FFA Advisor from Bonanza will make her debut at the Fair this year as she takes over the long held position of Tom Hall. Anna, although new to this role, is really an old face for Bonanza as she graduated in 2006 under the tutelage of Mr. Hall, her favorite teacher. Tom shared that Anna was a key component on State and National FFA Soil Judging teams while at Bonanza High School. Mrs. Aylett graduated from OSU in 2011 with a degree in Animal Science and then went back to earn her Masters in Ag Education in 2017. As a youth, Mrs. Aylett showed rabbit, sheep and

beef at the Klamath County Fair, so this is definitely not new territory for her. When asked what her main objective for fair this year is, she was quick to reply, “I want all the students to have a good experience and to achieve some level of personal success with their projects.” Secondly, after stepping into Mr. Hall’s shoes, shoes that have tracked their way to 27 Klamath County Fairs as the Bonanza FFA advisor, she hopes just not to “drop the ball”. After meeting Anna and seeing her energy and enthusiasm I believe that ball will be crossing the goal line and scoring points for the Bonanza FFA Chapter. Mike Romtvedt - Never Too “Tired”

Our local Tire Man, owner of Basin Tire, Mike Romtvedt is never too “tired” to help with the Fair. Romtvedt has been a mainstay for the Klamath County Fair for over a decade. He remembers his first involvment came when he was a member of the Bonanza Boosters and they jumped at the opportunity to work the gates for the Fair Board. Well once you start it is like a snowball that gains speed and the next thing he knew he was a Fair Board member.

He warmed right up when he spoke of working with Doreen Beddoe and John Hancock and the vision and belief they shared with the Fair community. He has enjoyed his work as a Fair Board member on the organizational side of the fair, creating a sustainable event that connects our community. His favorite thing about fair? “Of course,” he says with a half smile that starts as a twinkle in his eye and travels up to arch his brow, “it is the interaction of the people and to watch the kids, and everyone loves the fair!” Thank you Mike Romtvedt for your contribution to our Klamath County Fair.

Turkeys can be pretty aggressive, especially during mating season. Male turkeys work very hard to impress females. So attacking a much bigger animal — say, a human being — would probably woo the hen of their dreams. Turkeys have attacked cars, mail carriers and even their own reflections. Found at: www.mnn.com Rules to live by: In turkey country, speak softly and carry a big stick.

Great Northwest Pro Rodeo

Rodeo Queen

Megan Schrock

Megan Schrock is the 2018 Miss Great Northwest Pro Rodeo queen. She is a Corvallis, Oregon native, and graduated with an honors diploma from Philomath High School in 2014. Growing up, Megan participated in the local county 4H program showing sheep, cattle and horses. She showed all throughout the northwest on the Pony of America’s breed circuit, and also participated in Oregon High School Equestrian Teams organization. Upon graduating, she moved to Redmond, Oregon to take college courses and plan her next move towards a career. In 2017, she moved to Klamath Falls to pursue a career in Dental Hygiene. Currently, Megan is in her first year of Dental Hygiene school at Oregon Institute of Technology, and will continue on that path by interning at a dental office this summer. In her free time, Megan enjoys riding her horses and being active to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Rob Smets - Rodeo Announcer

While bull riding as a teenager, Smets taunted some of the bullfighters for not protecting riders well enough after the riders fell. They challenged him to try being a bullfighter himself, which he did. He made a name for himself early on distracting bulls after riders had fallen so the riders could leave the ring safely. During the 19 years of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo World Bullfighting

Championship from 1981-2000, Smets was a top 6 finisher 17 times. He also won the championship 5 times, a record. He is a 9 time PBR World Championship Bullfighter. Rob was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2006. He was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in April 2010. He was the inaugural recipient of the Professional Bull Rider Heroes and Legends Celebration. In 2017, Rob was inducted into the Bull Riding Hall of Fame.
