Golden Rat Seeks The Ingot Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the welcoming of new beginnings and fresh starts. It is an important holiday for the Chinese, celebrated with iconic red lanterns, loud, colorful fireworks, parades and massive banquets with family and close friends. Celebrations span for over 15 days, with meaningful traditions practiced throughout. Red is used in almost all new year decorations and worn in clothing to bring good fortune. Firecrackers are set off on Chinese New Year’s Eve to ward away bad luck and evil spirits and in the morning after to welcome the new year. Food also has special meaning for the Chinese. Nian gao, a sweet, sticky rice cake, is traditionally eaten during Chinese New Year. Gao is a homonym for “higher each year”, symbolizing success and progress every year. It is also popular to give oranges to family and friends because orange in Chinese is ji, which means "good luck". La Cabrera One doesn’t have to travel far afield to taste the legendary authentic Argentinian cuisine. Luckily, it’s all here in this hidden gem right in the heart of Ortigas Center, a premium steakhouse all the way from Buenos Aires, La Cabrera.

a favorite among Argentinians, is a thin, allmeat cut, tougher than other cuts but very rich and flavorful. Cuadril (rump steak) is the leanest cut, slightly crispy edges with pure and distinct tang. Asado del Centro (short ribs) is textured and chewy but very tasty. All steaks come with an array of delectable hot and cold side dishes.

It is no great revelation that the Argentinian-style of grilling has made a name internationally for being one of the world's best grilling traditions. Argentina takes its beef very seriously and has mastered the art of grilling tender, non-ordinary cuts of flavorful beef through a time-honed cooking technique perfected on its vast grassy plains. The process starts from skipping the marinade and picking high-quality meats, all the way to cooking the beef low and slow using hot coals and achieving the perfect crust. More than the food itself, Argentinian grilling is a ritual and ceremony.

W h e n indulging in Argentinian dishes, the wine of choice is certainly a Malbec. It is the country’s signature wine, which tends to be fruitforward with a velvety soft texture. Malbec wines are bold, full-bodied red wines with balanced tannins, hence, pairs exquisitely well with the Argentinian style of grilling steaks in La Cabrera.

What makes La Cabrera steaks special is its proprietary way of charcoal grilling thick meat without butter nor marinade, yet it allows the steak to remain incomparably tender, juicy and flavorful. Thus, there should be no hesitation when it comes to ordering, just go straight for the beef!

Aside from grills, La Cabrera also offers other mouth-watering dishes, from appetizers to salads, pastas and degustacións. The mid-autumn ball showcased a five-course dinner prepared by Summer Palace executive chef Tony Sum, dim sum chef Andy Liew and director of Chinese operations Nancy Farm, the team behind the iconic Cantonese restaurant. The evening’s program by ABS-CBN’s premier lifestyle media arm, Metro Society, was directed by Robby Carmona, and saw some of the country’s top performers such as Richard Poon, Zephanie Dimaranan, Klarisse de Guzman and the University of the East Cultural Affairs Dance Group taking the stage. A tribute to the late Gina Lopez, well-loved founder of the ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Bata and Bantay Kalikasan, was led by singer and TV host Erik Santos. A silent auction of art, travel and jewelry, as well as dice games, also took place during the festivities, with the goal of raising incremental funds for the ABS-CBN Foundation.
