A

If it is true, as claimed by writer Alphonse Allais, that people who never laugh are not serious people, prepare yourselves to become acquainted with a lot of very serious people over the next few days! Indeed, each year, the event sets the stage for many conversations that take place in a climate of good humour conducive to building both creative and commercial ties.
To one and all, I wish you an excellent stay!

Téléfilm appuie des initiatives originales
T

Telefilm supports original initiatives
T
elefilm Canada joins Cartoon Connection to gather the industry, creative talents and the public around stories—funny, sad or deeply moving—that shape our culture and mark our collective imagination. Placing the promotion of Canadian film firmly at the centre of its mission, Telefilm supports original initiatives that foster the discovery of emerging creative talents and the rediscovery of more seasoned filmmakers. Our organization works closely with the industry and with numerous partners to spur our cinema to ever-greater heights, at home and on the international scene. Although our movies begin their careers at home in Canada, they are increasingly sought after by the world’s most prestigious film festivals, winning awards as well as praise from international critics.
While this success is built primarily on talent, the international renown of our productions, for its part, is the result of initiatives put forward by you and our supportive industry. On behalf of Telefilm, thank you for sharing our passion and for contributing in such a wonderful way to the promotion of our film industry. Enjoy the festival!

Chers amis et partenaires,
L

Our objective is to revive co-operations and co-productions between Europe and Canada
I
t is with great pleasure that we are returning to Québec to celebrate the 7th edition of Cartoon Connection. Our objective is to revive co-operations and co-productions between Europe and Canada and to allow the emergence of sustainable business links between European and Canadian producers, broadcasters and distributors. Last year, 43% of the 78 projects presented by the European delegation claimed to be in advanced and for some in finalised discussions with Canadian professionals. This pleases us greatly. To strengthen these cooperations further, we allow Canadian producers who are associated with a European project or who have their own project in association with a European partner to attend our yearly Cartoon Forum in Toulouse in September (co-production forum for TV series, 950 participants, 260 buyers, 35 countries) and the Cartoon Movie in March
(co-production forum for animated features, 730 participants, 200 buyers including 120 distributors, 35 countries). Several Canadian producers have already participated in these events. For the 7th edition, we will select two Canadian projects from among all those to be discussed during the bilateral meetings and present them with the “Cartoon Connection Award”. This will be their key for direct admission to the Cartoon Forum or Cartoon Movie in 2017. We are also very happy to welcome over 10 producers from Mexico and Costa Rica. My warm thanks goes to our loyal partner, the Creative Europe/MEDIA Programme of the European Union, and to our co-organizer, Pixel, as well as to all his Canadian partners.

Fructueux Cartoon Connection Canada !

Perfect meeting place for the most important producers and distributors
T
his is the seventh Cartoon Connection Canada. Each year, it has expanded and responded to a growing demand for lasting partnerships, creative astonishment and fun. Pixel Québec has been here since the beginning and is still happy to allow it to be held. The team has created, with palpable enthusiasm, a unique venue for discovery, inventiveness and significant encounters for all animation professionals, wherever they come from! Organized jointly with Cartoon Media from Belgium, Cartoon Connection Canada is the perfect meeting place for the most important producers and distributors in the industry from Europe, Canada and Latin America, as well as for designers. There is a place for everyone, and everyone is impatient to find the ideal partner here. During presentations and at over 900 one-to-one meetings, professionals learn and make special connections. We have even added two new streams this year: six high-level master classes and screenings of animated feature films.
The first stream welcomes renowned masters from studios in Québec City and Montréal, hugely inspiring for creators in the animation industry. The second stream, developed in collaboration with the Le Clap cinema, is for true fans of animation and members of the general public who want to admire incomparable talents. Of course, this sort of professional occasion is the result of working together. On behalf of the whole Pixel Québec team, I want to offer our hearty thanks to all our partners who are so essential to the success of Cartoon Connection Canada: Creative Europe/Media, Telefilm Canada, Québec City, the Fonds des médias du Canada/Canada Media Fund, SODEC, the Convention Centre, the Bureau du cinéma et de la télévision du Québec, the Bell Fund, Frima, Procomer of Costa Rica, 10th Ave Productions, Québec International, the Digital Arts and Interactive Entertainment niche of excellence in the Capitale-Nationale region and the Ministry of the Economy, Science and Innovation. I hope that CCC will meet the expectations of all participants. And personally, I hope that it will create not just precious memories, but lasting strategic alliances. Have a fruitful Cartoon Connection Canada!
