Basketpong is a new and revolutionary tailgating game that optimizes portability by utilizing an easily assembled, compact setup with a vertical backboard. Xtreme Pong Sports and Basketpong features: Portable & lightweight design Nationwide College Circuit Tour Quality assurance Organized regional & national tournaments Alternate games utilizing Basketpong apparatus Basketpong one-ups the competition! Its portability is tailored for tailgating with a vertical backboard that attaches to a pole that is supported by a base, similar to a basketball goal. The backboard has eight slots to insert rims in different patterns. The rims secure the cups to the backboard. This allows you to play the game at different skill levels: with a standard pyramid (Pro Level), an upside down pyramid (All-Star) or play to the Xtreme with all 8 cups on the backboard at once for a more challenging experience. Basketpong is designed for two teams of two, with 2 Basketpong balls, a shooting distance of 8 feet and a playing height of 6 feet. But
players can quickly and easily adjust any of these variables. Opposing teams alternate shooting Basketpong balls at the other team’s Basketpong goals. The first team to clear all of the cups from the opposing team’s goal wins the game! Please check out the RULES page (http://basketpong.net/games.html) for more details on how to play Basketpong. The guys at Xtreme Pong Sports grew tired of
dragging tables around over the past decade, and that frustration coupled with our continued passion for tailgating manifested itself in the creation of Basketpong. So give your back a rest and get verticalized with the next big tailgating game to come to market! www.facebook.com/basketpong

S
o they tell me its winter outside but I’m suspicious that it is really spring time in disguise. Being that I loathe cold weather and that I’m getting plenty of bike riding time in, this unexpected weather is perfectly fine with me. January is normally the slowest bar month of the year due to the combination of it being cold and everyone being broke from the holidays. But surprisingly enough, I’m staying pretty active this month. Allow me to share with you my last couple weeks. On a Wednesday, I drove into Jacksonville to play at a restaurant/bar named Ducks. Since I grew up in Jacksonville and I’ve played there a million times, I saw plenty of familiar faces and felt right at home. Aside from one really annoying loud girl in the bar, everything was good. The following day I played at the Plank Road Restaurant in Farmville. The Plank Road is a nice but casual and friendly place. The have a good size patio outside and it’s an early gig so I was done playing by 10. Almost immediately as I got packed up, I got a text from the GVEGAS editor in chief who informed me that the magazine staff is going bar hopping downtown that night...one of the obvious benefits of this job. Five bars and many drinks later, I was dropped back off at my apartment.
On Friday I quickly recovered and headed to Topsail Island. I got a little beach time in before my show at the Brass Pelican. I’ve been playing in Topsail for years so this is pretty familiar turf for me. Aside from 3 really annoying drunk girls, everything went good. If you haven’t visited Topsail Island, I’d highly recommend that you do. Saturday came around and I headed back home to Greenville to play at The Pirates Den. They have recently remodeled the place and it looks great! Purple and gold walls, nice beer pong tables, a bigger stage and more of a liquor and beer

selection. It was a late night but I did my best to get to bed before sunrise for I had a road trip to South Carolina in the morning. After a five hour drive, I arrived in the tiny beach community of Pawley’s Island. I’ve been playing here every month for 5 years so I’ve really gotten to know quite a few of the locals. I’ve never had even the slightest hint of a problem from anyone in this town for any reason. It’s very likely that I’ll end up living there at some point of time. Like usual I stayed up till sunrise and slept till 2. Once I woke up and got motivated my mind drifted to the question of “What now?” After all, there is no sense of adventure in going home and I didn’t have to be anywhere till Thursday. So I made a cup of coffee, hopped in my van, and headed to Folly Beach, South Carolina. I had never been to Folly Beach and realized it was only an hour and a half from where I was at, so that sounded like a proper adventure. Folly Beach is a tiny island with 5 bars that are all next door to each other. It’s fun visiting a place at random with no preconceived notions as to what to expect. It turned out to be a very friendly island and I decided to stay the night as well. One of the bars there was having an open mic night, so I grabbed my guitar and steel drum and headed that way.

I visited 20 bars while I was there, and most showed an interested in having me perform. These things normally take a while to come to fruition, so I was pretty stoked when my phone was ringing the next day with a South Carolina area code. That night I opted for finding a campground to stay at. I prefer campgrounds over hotels for the following reasons: Check out is

As soon as I got to the bar, I could tell I was in the right place. It didn’t take long to fit right in. Someone even bought a round of shots for all the bar patrons. Going back to Folly Beach is now on my priority list. I spent most of the next day running around Charleston. I’ve been here a few times before and the nightlife there never ceases to

Then on Thursday, I packed my favorite 6 guitars and headed to LIVE to play a really fun show with my new band. Speaking of my new band, you can catch us playing back at LIVE on April 13. But meanwhile you can attend my equally awesome one-man-band show at The Carolina Ale house on February 2, March 1, and April 5.

LET THE PARTY BEGIN
!
By Patrick O’Brien
THE GAME
It’s that time of the year again, where people are trying to find a place to watch the big game. With the Super Bowl in February and March Madness just right around the corner, people left and right are calling others to find out some plans to watch the games. So if you are one of those people trying to set up a party for everyone, there are certain things that one will need to have for a successful gathering. If you don’t, then people will start to talk, people will start calling others trying to see where they are at, and you will be left to pack up the leftovers at the end of the day.
1) Finger Food – This is a must have because everyone is going to be watching the game and do NOT want to keep on getting up to crave their appetite. Chips and dip are always the classic but your more than welcome to switch it up; just make sure its easy to get and easy to eat. 2) TV and System – There is nothing more depressing than watching the big game on a TV where you have to squint to see the score, where you can’t hear the game announcers over everyone else, or the TV is so small, you can’t see the game over the crowd. If you don’t have, I would suggest you find a buddy to help you out.
3) Beer/ Keg – Can one remember a big game where the host didn’t have beer. This has to be a no brainer, but I would suggest, if you can find a neutral beer for everyone, a keg would be the easy way to go. Just make sure it is placed in an area where you can watch the game and still see the keg.
g-vegasmagazine | 09
4) Chairs – Nobody wants to stand around the whole game. Seating areas are a must have and if you plan on throwing a party, you must go around and find as many as you can for people, even if you have to throw a seating area on the floor. Decorations, music, themes, and all the other things are nice to have, but they are not needed for the party; listed above is what will separate your party from the others. If you really want to have a party that people will remember, don’t be scared to go outside the box. So get the place ready, call your friends, drink a beer, get the party started, and enjoy the game.
HAND HELDS SMART PHONES

THE GAME
PS - Vita
Apparently, there can only be one… I bet you think this is going to be about how Handhelds are better than Smartphones or vice-versa, right? Well you’re wrong. I want to just to let you know that both of them may be around for a while. What bought this up for me? At a G-VEGAS meeting I had my 3DS with me and got a street pass while there…this meant that someone at had meeting had a 3DS as well. Now from what I know, “normal” people don’t want to carry a handheld and a phone too, but over the last few months I’ve been running into people who do carry both.
iPhone 4S
If this is really the case, the claim that phones will replace handhelds doesn’t hold as much weight as it used too. But as the same time the claim is still there, yes, phones are getting to the place they can play games that have the look of console games now, just not the control method and let’s not forget the phone’s primary use is to be…a phone. Handhelds are meant to play games. I think a lot of people tend to forget this, but the ones who have figured it out, know that phones are not really meant to be game machine, but are getting to the place they can be (The iPhone is a good example). Sony tried to marry a phone and a less powerful version of the PSP called the Xperia Play (pictured) but also has a very powerful gaming handheld call the PS Vita (pictured) covering both bases and of curse Nintendo only dose handhelds and has had them mastered for years. The biggest thing keeping both of these around is that one is kind of needed and the other can offer experiences that the other cannot, and as long as there are people who want one over the other or both, Handhelds for the next few years….

MYKINDA PARTY

Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Lauren Alaina “My Kinda Party” Concert Review
Jason Aldean
Luke Bryan & Jason Aldean
The show was completely amazing, and I encourage all country music fans to check out a show by any of the three performers in the upcoming future. Every performer was remarkable, and it felt great leaving that night feeling as if you a part of the show. Specifically, Lauren Alaina has a bright future out ahead of her who I expect to have a rocking musical career. For anyone in the pirate nation that attended the party, I hope you had just as much of a good time as me and my girl did. And girls, keep on shakin’ it for Luke!

I swear every time HE shook it, I almost felt as if the sea of women I was surrounded by were going to drop dead in their seats…
{
Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” tour featuring Luke Bryan and American Idol’s Lauren Alaina was definitely a party of epic proportions, throwing down in the Crown Coliseum located in Fayetteville, NC. My girlfriend and I both attended the event on Saturday, January 21st, and we had a blast. For starters, Lauren Alaina performed on stage by singing her hit song “Like My Mother Does,” that’s currently soaring towards the top Billboard Country hits of 2012. Following Lauren, Luke Bryan came out from the back of the stage with the thunderous beginning to his song “Rain is Good.” And of course, it would surely not be a Luke Bryan concert without his “Country Girl (Shake It for Me),” rockin’ the tight jeans and swift moves of…shaking HIS behind on stage. I swear every time HE shook it, I almost felt as if the sea of women I was surrounded by were going to drop dead in their seats…including my very own girlfriend! As for the rest of us men in the crowd, we cared only for the delicious beer and great sounds of good ol’ American country music. Once Luke’s time was up, it was time for the intermission. Lizard Lick towing’s very own Ronnie “Ron” Shirley and his wife Amy from the TruTV network took time out of their night out for pictures and autographs. Out next came country baLauren Alaina dass himself, Jason Aldean. Aldean arose from the bottom of the stage, spotlights and all focused on him. About m i d w a y through the show, both Luke and Jason walked from the front stage, to the back stage, just only a few rows back from where our seats were. Following a few duets and a miller light, Luke and Jason finished their duets on stage, and tossed out their guitar picks to the crowd. As soon as the pick gets tossed out, Marissa turns to me and says “I would kill to have that pick from my man Luke Bryan!” Luckily, as I was shutting off my camera, I look down and notice something shiny and triangulated on the floor beneath the feet of scores of women hunting to find this pick. Much to my surprise, there it was! Rest assured, the girlfriend was surely happy after spotting out that man’s guitar pick.

TURNING DREAMS INTO REALITIES
So you have your dream chasers and your dream catchers. But how many of you are actually going after your dream? I know I am, and I’m not giving up on it. That is why I have been missing for a while now. I have been pursuing my acting career with a local production company...via Raleigh area. The most important thing is that I actually went for it despite all the odds that were against me. What I want my fellow Greenvillian family to know is that no matter what is going on in your life you have to take control of it and say I am going to do this or I am going to stop this but it is up to you. Fellas, if you have been looking at a girl (or guy) and ladies and you have not gone up to them...what are you waiting for? You can only try and if she (or he) says no then its ok. That No will not kill you. Ladies, if you are trying to get the attention of that guy (or girl) then sometimes you have to walk up to them and do things more obvious than before. This is what Brand YOU is all about. Taking chances and going after what you have been wanting to do for a while. In fact don’t open doors for options, make demands and follow through with them. I know so many people who want to do great things but they feel like they are limited to what they can do because Greenville doesn’t offer it.... well sounds like you have something you want to do
THE LIFE
to get Greenville to that spot. I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of this but I am working on changing that. You have to bring, push, emit the best you there is and use every single talent that you have to make things happen. Yes even if you are rubbing a penny and lint from your pocket you can do something to change even that. I often think of Derek Oliverio (Original sup dogs owner who passed a few months ago for those who don’t know) and how he made his dream a reality. How he created his Legacy at such a young age and I get inspired. If you have to find people that will inspire you then so be it. DO it. You have the power to do so and nobody can hold you back except yourself. Be the BRAND that you want to be. Don’t overly do it till you look like the fool of the world but do just enough that will keep you motivated to press forward and do the things you have been holding yourself back from. My motto since 2008 has been “Turning my dreams into Realities” and so far so good. I cannot forget the most famous dreamer we have in America. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. He dreamed that we would one day live and work together and look at us now. Even though he died before he could see his dream come true, he still put in work to make it happen and now its his legacy.
