FOREVER YOUNG?
NOPE
BY WAYNE SALTER
Most people that walk in my boot camp are out of shape. They aren’t happy with what they see in the mirror. But guess what? Many of them tell me how fit they were in high school and college – cheerleaders, athletes, etc. But looking at them now, you wouldn’t know it. My point is, when your young and fit (or just think that effortlessly look fit) you probably take it for granted. When you’re young, you think all is fine. “I’ll never be one of those people that gain weight and get out of shape”. Wrong. You will be, UNLESS you do something about it. Guess what? That’s the same thing that my boot campers thought who are in their 30’s and 40’s when they were your age. Ever hear the phrase “use it or lose it”? That’s def true with your body. If you don’t keep it moving and feeding it right, it will slowly transform into something you will NOT like when you look in the mirror! But never fear. Decide NOW to get into the habit taking care of your body on a regular basis. Here are some quick tips to get you started. Start with Motivation: Why do you want to get – or stay – fit? There must be a reason why you want to keep a strong, healthy and sexy body.

Work on Education: You need to eat right and workout smart to keep getting the results you want. Do you know how to do this? Are you sure? You can find a gazillion workout videos and diets on the Net. So what’s right and what’s wrong?? Whatever you decide to do, make sure to follow these guidelines: Work your whole body. Multi-joint exercises like squats, pushups and pull-ups give you the biggest bang for your buck. Forget the bicep curls and the leg extension machine. Don’t try to target fat burning by doing more crunches. That doesn’t work. And guys, come on already – work your legs!! Stick to eating normal, clean and healthy food. Don’t rely on fat burning pills and protein powder. Save that money – just eat real food. Workout with a buddy. Stick together and keep each other accountable! Email if you have questions. fbbcGreenville@gmail.com I can help you get started in our Boot Camp or through our personalized online training, no matter where you are. UPRISING
John Boyega stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction. Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

SOUND
SPAZZFEST IX CONTINUES GREENVILLE LEGACY BY NATHAN BLACK
For almost a decade now Spazzfest has been the signature mark of the music scene here in Greenville, and again it comes through, reminding all of not just the music that will be on everyone’s playlists, but what the city was “once upon a time.” While each resident, past or present, may have their own time frame or era where they say the music scene was at its peak, Spazzfest seems to encapsulate that undetermined stretch of time into one long weekend of mass harmony and artistic reinvigoration. Beginning on Thursday March 22nd and sweeping through until Sunday the 25th with the customary closer, Pale Face, Spazzfest relays back to the fair Emerald City just what it was missing after the city went corporate. A toss up of several styles make up what the festival offers, some recognizable, some ultra hip and merely budding, and some avant garde. This festival pulls the scab back placed by prissy top 40 and begs to believe again that somewhere something original doesn’t have to imply mediocre. Quite the contrary, Spazzfest’s past, though tinged with ups and downs, has still produced some of the most impressive and alluling acts to date ever to grace Greenville. Spazzfest and its constituents helped to usher in such acts as Nolan Smock and the Charming Youngsters, Rebekah Todd, KONG, Lonnie Walker, The Ethnographers, and Psylo Joe all to the forefront of their main stage. Not to forget that such acts like Future Islands (also their counterpoint The Snails), Zack Mexico, and Tim Kasher have been featured on their rosters. This year applies itself further, holding to the same standard of excellence and attempts to bring back old magic with new art with familiar flare. Matt Phillips returns after graduating and moving to Chapel Hill. The Monologue Bombs of Raleigh, Witch Wells, Nathan Harding, Cranes are Flying, The Out of Limits, The

Madd Hatters all top the list the year. As well the triumphant return of No Brainer after a year or more absence. A complete list of all events and prices at the door will follow. For further information go to www.spazzfest.com or look them up on Facebook. Golden Tickets have already gone on sale and are going fast. Golden tickets can be purchased to receive access to all events for the entire weekend. Please continue to support original local music.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY FUN & FACTS Did you know?
A few facts about St. Patrick’s Day that you may not know: • Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick’s Day dish • There are 36.9 million U.S. residents with Irish roots. This number is more than eight times the population of Ireland itself (4.5 million). • Irish is the nation’s second most frequently reported ancestry, ranking behind German.
• The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in the United States on March 17, 1762, when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City. • More than 100 St. Patrick’s Day parades are held across the
whereUparty | 23
United States. New York City and Boston are home to the largest celebrations. • At the annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade, participants march up 5th Avenue from 44th Street to 86th Street. More than 150,000 people take part in the event, which does not allow automobiles or floats. Where did the Irish get their world-known symbol, the Shamrock? The shamrock, which was also called the “seamroy” by the Celts, was a sacred plant in ancient Ireland because it symbolized the rebirth of spring. By the seventeenth century, the shamrock had become a symbol of emerging Irish nationalism. As the English began to seize Irish land and make laws against the use of the Irish language and the practice of Catholicism, many Irish began to wear the shamrock as a symbol of their pride in their heritage and their displeasure with English rule.
LIFE
ST. PATRICK’S DAY ORIGINS Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, cèilidhs, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians who belong to liturgical denominations also attend church services and historically the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day, which has encouraged and propagated the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption.
Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (for provincial government employees), and the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world, especially in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival. Modern celebrations have been greatly influenced by those of the Irish diaspora, particularly those that developed in North America. In recent years, there has been criticism of Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations for having become too commercialised and for fostering negative stereotypes of the Irish people.
