WHERE SHOULD I LEARN ENGLISH? If you’re set on learning English but can’t decide where in the world, then this is for you. We’ve looked at countries where English is an official spoken language and compared them on a number of categories; from pronunciation to student life. Let’s have a look:
American English vs British English The best known difference between these variants of English is the spelling; for example, the COLOR GRAY is SPELLED that way in the US as opposed to the COLOUR GREY is SPELT that way in the UK. Both mean the same thing! Then when it comes to pronunciation, some words have the same spelling but sound different. For example in the US, the word adult is prounced ‘uh-dult’ whereas in the UK, it is ‘add-ult’. Another example is ‘enn-velope’ in the UK and ‘on-velope’ in the US for the word envelope. The good news is, most Americans and Brits understand the other side so you’ll not be lost in translation! Singapore atmosphere vs New Zealand atmosphere As Singapore is a city-state, it is naturally more built up than the country of New Zealand and as it is smaller, you can see many things in a short space of time. Also with its size comes efficiency, both in the city’s organization and way of doing business. New Zealand has a sparser population density so expect more countryside and space (in fact there are more sheeps than humans)! Life is very relaxed offering a great opportunity to explore the stunning scenery All in all, the key to choosing a country is to find the program that best fits your needs and your budget. At the end of the day, you’re bound to have a life-changing experience whether you study in the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada, Australia or Singapore!
