The best of the West. While America’s east coast boasts urban gems such as Boston and New York, the sun-soaked shores of the west coast are an entirely different animal. From palm-fringed beaches to vast deserts, a journey through California – and beyond – is truly an all-American adventure.
WHERE MODERN CULTURE MEETS NATURAL WONDER. It’s one of the most famous regions in the whole of the USA – and for good reason. On an EF Discovery™ adventure, you’ll see why America’s west coast offers far more than just sun and celebrities. As you stop at each destination on your journey from San Francisco to Phoenix, you’ll pick up new language skills and get to practice your English with both fellow travelers and real Americans. Your journey starts in San Francisco, California, where cable cars run up-and-down the steep city hills and the giant Golden Gate Bridge dominates the skyline. After three days to explore the city, you’ll continue southwards to Los Angeles, home of the English-speaking world’s entertainment industry as well as some of the most famous theme parks on the planet. Head further south to San Diego, where you’ll have an upclose experience with animals at San Diego Zoo and Sea World. Leaving California, you’ll spend the night amongst the neon lights of Las Vegas before heading to Flagstaff for a journey down the majestic Colorado River. You’ll also spend a day exploring the iconic Grand Canyon before you transfer to Phoenix, Arizona for a day of discovery prior to departing for home.

WEST COAST USA IN FOCUS: YOUR ITINERARY DAYS 1-3: SAY HELLO TO SAN FRANCISCO
Home to some of the most creative and quirky souls on the planet, San Francisco also hosts one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks – the Golden Gate Bridge. You’ll have plenty of time to view it from near and far as you explore every corner of the city, from Chinatown to vibrant Fisherman’s Wharf. You’ll also visit an aquarium, planetarium and natural history museum at the California Academy of Sciences, followed by a trail through giant redwood trees in Muir Woods. Destination highlights: > Explore San Francisco, with sights including the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and eclectic Chinatown > Stand under giant redwood trees in Muir Woods
DAYS 4-6: LIFE, LOS ANGELES STYLE
You might have seen it on movies and television shows for years, but there’s more to Los Angeles than just glitz and glamour. Thanks to a deliciously warm climate, it’s home to some of the best beaches on America’s west coast. In fact, you’ll have some free time at Venice Beach as soon as you arrive in Los Angeles, followed by a guided sightseeing tour of the city. You’ll explore locations from the Walk of Fame to Rodeo Drive, Sunset Boulevard and even the Hollywood sign. You’ll also see the secret side of life in Los Angeles, with trips to the Farmer’s Market to order some food in English. On your final day in Los Angeles, it’s time to experience Universal Studios – the place where movies come alive. Step behind the scenes to see how some of your favorite blockbusters came to life and learn all the backstage secrets. Finish the evening with dinner at Universal CityWalk, amid shops and restaurants right in the center of all the the Universal Studios action. Destination highlights: > Stretch out on the sand at famous Venice Beach > See the sights of Los Angeles, including the iconic Hollywood sign and the Walk of Fame > Experience Universal Studios and have dinner in the middle of the action at Universal CityWalk
DAYS 7-8: SUNNY SAN DIEGO
After the excitement of Los Angeles, America’s entertainment capital, prepare for more Californian adventures as you arrive in San Diego. This southernmost city of the Golden State offers everything from beaches to beluga whales. Your first stop is San Diego’s famous zoo, home to exotic and fascinating creatures from all over the world. As your introduction to the city itself, you’ll take take an exciting tour to see all the sights including Balboa Park, La Jolla, Coronado Island and the Pacific Beach area – the perfect time to practice your English. Afterwards, prepare to get wet at worldfamous SeaWorld, where you’ll get up close to dolphins, whales, sharks, penguins and much more. Destination highlights: > Marvel at beaches and city attractions on a fun sightseeing tour > Enjoy a day at San Diego Zoo, followed by dinner > Day to explore SeaWorld and get up close to marine creatures

DAYS 9-11: LAS VEGAS & THE GRAND CANYON
From San Diego, you’ll travel eastwards to Las Vegas, a city known around the world for its bright lights, grand buildings and unique entertainment. Almost a theme park in its own right, you’ll spend the night in this vibrant city before heading to the mighty Colorado River. This important river flows down from the Rocky Moutains to Mexico, carving out the dramatic Grand Canyon along the way. As you take to the water on an exciting kayaking trip, you’ll marvel at the beauty of nature and learn essential English phrases at the same time – keep a close eye out for Native American carvings too. After your 15-mile journey along the Colorado River, you’ll spend a day exploring the collosal Grand Canyon National Park, where you’ll stand a mile above the river you’ve just been traveling on! Get your camera ready, as you’ll have plenty of time to strike a pose in front of the canyon while a park ranger tells you all about the history and legends behind this world-famous geological wonder.
DAYS 12-13: FINISH IN PHOENIX
Round off your trip with a night in Phoenix, the capital city of Arizona. While you soak up the heat in this desert town, you’ll explore Montezuma Castle National Monument – a building set over five levels and featuring 20 rooms carved into the side of a cliff. You’ll find out all about the Sinagua Indians who used to live there over 600 years ago, enjoying an unforgettable ending to your west coast adventure. Destination highlights: > Discover an incredible ancient building built into a vertical cliff, home to native tribes hundreds of years ago > Spend a night in Phoenix before you depart for home
