Addiction Video games are programmed in a way that gets kids as well as adults hooked to the game. Either people get too involved in the story of the game or they don’t want to stop playing because their friends will still be online. This leads to kids skipping homework for games and struggling to cope with school.

PART TWO: SKILL DEVELOPMENT OR A WASTE OF TIME?
Problems of video games
Physical health issues Excessive playing of video games causes huge amounts of stress on your eyes that can lead to future eye problems and blurry vision. Playing games frequently also means that people are stuck to their couches and engage in very little to no activity. This leads to kids developing obesity from a very young age.
MODULE BY
THE GREAT ESCAPE I ENTER THE GAMER'S GETAWAY
Expensive Video games are genuinely expensive. Gaming consoles and gaming computers are extremely expensive with new versions starting around $700. Top-tier games will also cost around $100. Parents often find it difficult to keep up with their kids' gaming demands.

PART TWO: SKILL DEVELOPMENT OR A WASTE OF TIME?
Problems of video games
Desensitization Many argue that violence or graphic content in video games desensitizes players to real-world violence or suffering. The logic is that constant exposure to violence and abusive language normalizes people to these concepts. This leads to them thinking violence or abuse is normal and may even impact their behavior towards others.

PART TWO: SKILL DEVELOPMENT OR A WASTE OF TIME?
Skill Training: Understanding Motion Types Depending on how they are phrased, debate topics/ motions have different requirements that teams have to meet to win the debate. Today we will look at a few motion types and discuss what debaters should do in these situations.
Analysis Motions: This House Believes That These are topics that start with ‘THBT“ - This House Believes That Video Games Do More Harm Than Good These are called value judgment debates which means that the Government has to argue that the statement is true and the Opposition has to argue that the statement is false. There is no need for the government to construct a policy but they should provide a definition. In this situation, the government should define video games as the digital games played by people on their gaming consoles or phones.

Policy Analysis Motion: This House Believes That “X” should These are topics that start with “THBT “X should” - This House Believes That Schools Should Actively Discourage Children From Playing Video Games This debate should be judged from the perspective of a neutral observer. For instance, do you think, as a neutral person, whether schools discourage gaming is a good idea or not? The motion itself is introducing a policy, i.e. the discouraging of video games. Government and opposition will assume that policy will pass and debate on the harms and benefits. Since the motion itself is a policy you don’t have to give an elaborate model. The government is just expected to give some outlines on how they expect the policy to be executed. For instance, how do you plan to discourage, and what steps can you take to ensure it will be discouraged? Opposition can question execution.
DEBATE & PUBLIC SPEAKING
PART TWO: SKILL DEVELOPMENT OR A WASTE OF TIME?
Skill Training: Understanding Motion Types Policy Debates: This House Would (THW) These are topics that start with “THW” - THW bans games that use graphic language and imagery In these debates, the government is expected to give a model/policy, in terms of how they want to execute the action mentioned by the topic. How will we ban these games? We want to set up an independent body of experts who will determine if the games meet the ban criteria or not. Both government and opposition have to debate assuming that the state will pass the policy in the parliament. However, opposition is allowed to question the effectiveness of the implementation. This will not instantly win the debate but may reduce the government’s benefits in the overall debate. Opposition question: What if some people still play these games by downloading from illegal websites?
