Everyday Maths Real Life Examples to Make the Subject Interesting

Maths is quite boring for many, but can be made interesting if things can be explained from day to day lives. We need to make kids understand that math is all around us. Giving real life examples would make a subject interesting

Here is how parents can do it:

percentages

Every now and then there are sales & discounts on various things. You should never leave this chance to make your child learn the concept of percentages.

distance

If you are preparing a trip to some place then make your kids realize and understand the concept of distance. It can be explained with the concept of diameter, revolution and calculating the number of revolutions per minute.

volume

This can be explained in daily life as you are preparing bath for your younger one then you can side by side explain your elder child the concept of volume. This can be explained that if we know the rate water is flowing out from the tap and the volume of the tub then we can figure out the precise time in which the tub will be filled completely.

speed

The concept of speed can be taught to children with the concept of a train crossing the station. You can explain as if you know the length of the train, the platform and train’s speed then you can compute the time by the total length (including train+platform) by train’s speed.

These examples are just a way to prove the universal application of maths. Keeping students updated with these real life examples shall make the subject more interesting for them.
