THROUGH THE LENS OF ENTROPY
Exploring the Harmony of Chaos: A Visual Journey Through Fractal Landscapes and Snowflake Symmetry
In my latest series of paintings, I delve into the interconnectedness of order and disorder in the natural world by exploring the themes of fractals and snowflakes through the lens of entropy. Embracing the beauty and complexity that arise from chaos and organization, I experiment with new techniques that involve the controlled explosion of materials onto the canvas.
Within the confines of a defined parameter, I aim to capture the asymmetrical yet harmonious forms reminiscent of fractals and snowflakes. These artworks reflect the mesmerizing patterns that emerge from seemingly random processes, inviting viewers to appreciate the delicate balance between chaos and structure in our universe.
This exploration of order and disorder, chaos and organization, in art mirrors the fundamental principles found in mathematics and physics. Fractals, which exhibit self-similarity at different scales, are mathematical constructs that appear in various natural phenomena, including snowflakes.
The concept of entropy, a measure of disorder in a system, is central to the understanding of how systems evolve over time in physics. By incorporating these themes into my art, I not only capture the visual beauty of natural patterns but also highlight their mathematical and physical underpinnings. Through this artistic expression, I aim to convey the interconnectedness of mathematics, physics, and the fundamental building blocks of the universe in a visually captivating way.

Artist’s Note:
For full disclosure, my introduction is the product of a conversation with AI. For many years I have always collaborated with one of two writers, helping me to take my words and ideas to a higher level of refinement and articulation. Now I write and ask AI to rewrite and then I rewrite that, a process that for me is like playing chess with a computer, it makes me smarter and teaches me how to be a better player.
The narrative inspires the artwork, and the artwork inspires the narrative. In this case a further example of how entropy works, and most importantly how that relates to the process in painting. The process becomes more of a process of intention, rather than a process of painting. The painting is a vessel of intention grounded in the experience of entropy using the plethora of techniques that have taken a lifetime to develop
