n his first year starting on the varsity, Hillcrest junior guard Mondarius Harris quickly made a name for himself with his speed and ability to get to the basket. He averaged 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his junior year. He was named to the Area 9 and Northwest Regional All-Tournament teams. His last-second, 3-point buzzer beater advanced Hillcrest (19-13) to the final of the Northwest Regional Tournament.

F

ayette County senior forward Chuck Franks carried the Tigers at the end of the season, averaging a double-double (24 points and 10 rebounds) the last five games of the season. Fayette County (20-9) advanced to the Northwest Regional final where the Tigers fell to Dora in overtime. For the season, Franks averaged 16 points and eight rebounds a game. He is signed to play football at Western Kentucky.

S

enior Northridge guard Terrance Coleman set the pace for a Jaguar team that set school records all season long. With Coleman’s play, the Jaguars beat rival Hillcrest for the first time in school history, won Area 9 (regular season and tournament) for the first time and advanced to the Northwest Regional Tournament (Sweet 16) for the first time. He also helped lead Northridge to a school record for wins (26-5). He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He is being recruited by several schools and has yet to set a date for his decision.

M

ardrecas Hood, a senior forward/guard for Pickens County, averaged 16.8 points a game his senior season for a Tornadoes’ team that went 22-5 and advanced to the Class 2A sub-regional. Hood grabbed 7.4 rebounds, handed out three assists and swiped two steals a game. He started as an eighth grader and was a part of more than 100 career wins for Pickens County. He was also selected to The Tuscaloosa News’ 2008 Super 11 football team. He signed to play football at Mississippi State.

T

evin Moore, a senior guard for Tuscaloosa Academy, averaged 18.2 points a game for a Tuscaloosa Academy team that went 33-2 (setting a school record for wins) and claimed the AISA Class AAA state championship. Moore also averaged 9.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. He was named to the AAA All-Tournament team and was selected to play in the AISA All-Star Game, where he was named MVP for the West.
