Crimson Tide can’t stop Manziel, but still comes away with the win By Cecil Hurt COL L EGE S TAT ION, T E X A S | Johnny Manziel did everything he could on Saturday but didn’t get what he wanted. A signature win. Both teams rolled up record offensive numbers Saturday, but No. 1 Alabama outlasted the Aggies 49-42 to turn around last season’s only loss and

give the Crimson Tide a win in its Southeastern Conference opener. AJ McCarron completed 20 of 29 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns against Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide (2-0), for a second straight season against the Aggies (2-1), looked bewildered at the start as Manziel led the Aggies to two quick touchdowns and a 14-0 lead that created bedlam at Kyle Field. Uzomah for an 11-yard touchdown with 10 seconds left to lift Auburn to a 24-20 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night, ending the Tigers’ 10-game Southeastern Conference losing streak. Marshall led the Tigers (3-0, 1-0 SEC) down the field with big running and passing plays in easily his best game. The play was reviewed and instant replay officials ruled that the 6-foot-4 tight end, Uzomah, was pushed out of bounds, enabling him to come back. With the game on the line, Marshall suddenly looked like anything but a guy who’s had six weeks to learn an offense. He hit freshman Marcus Davis on three straight passes to cover 29 yards, then had a 17-yarder to Jaylon Denson. He also salvaged short gains with a couple of runs before heading out of bounds.
