HAUS Z
house refurbishment, combination of concrete, wood and steel structure
Haus Z is located in the district of Zehlendorf in Berlin. It is an intervention of an existing house that opts to give a total change to its structure, by erasing the narrow spatial proportions of the interior typical of the 1960s. To achieve this, the old staircase core is demolished to create a new circulation with yellow metal stairs, allowing to organize better the space of all floors. At the same time, two new extensions on the roof and the ground floor have been designed to improve the lighting and ventilation conditions. The interior is inspired by the world of video games, giving a wink to the father of the family, programmer, and lover of the gamer world.

Lesvos, Greece August - October 2020 Archaeological Department Chiras Technical Office
The Summer House is located on the Greek island of Lesvos. The plot is on a steep slope and the ground is extremely rocky. It is designed as a summer house for a family of four and with extra individual rooms for summer guests. Located just some meters away from the coastline, and due to the inclination of the ground, the view is breathtaking. The design is following the Greek traditional architecture norms, that consists of many exterior connections and open-space design, inside and outside, that allows the direct view of the Aegean sea. For privacy reasons, also the master bedroom is designed on the ground floor, separated from the kids level. At the same time, a terrace, facing the Aegean sea, is designed in front of the living room. On the underground floor, there are three bedrooms with private bathrooms for each child. On the lower level are placed two individual bedrooms with private bathrooms to host the summer guests of the family.

CAPE VANI IN MILOS
steel structure with corten cladding, stone and brick walls
This diploma thesis aims to approach the issue of overtourism that affects the Greek islands. The proposal refers to the island of Milos, which is famous for the mining activity and its rich geological history. The objective is to introduce a slow way of tourism, which enhances the relationship between the visitors and the nature. After examining the existing geo-routes on the west part of the island, we chose to focus on the route that ends in cape Vani, an old manganese mine. The mine still contains of the old mining galleries and mining facility ruins. The review of the operation of the mining process aims to identify the ‘reading tools’ of the peculiar landscape and the mining steps, in order to use them in the design process.

The proposal organizes one route, through which the visitor crosses inside the old mine‘s arcades and experiences the landscape through a different perspective. The route starts from the highest level of the mine, passing through the mining arcades and going down, close to the sea level.
15
16
MASTERPLAN The designed route passes through the three existing levels of arcades. At the end of the route it is designed a ‘public square’ that brings together all the public uses, such as a thermal spa, a refreshment bar, and a small museum as an extension of the main Mining Museum. In order to endorse further-more the connection between the visitor and the landscape, we propose an alternative way of accommodation. The approach of housing is designed under terms of mining, through the tools of drilling, steep climbs, openings, etc. In addition, the accommodation of the visitors in the mine is a memorial of the old miners’ stay. The proposal intends to shape a unity that includes, at the same time, habitation and old mining activity.
17
18
PUBLIC SQUARE Focusing on the ‘public square’, there is a steel structure that is anchored to the rock and houses all the common uses. The interruption of the metal roof intensifies the continuation of the route, which carries on with steel frames that accompany the visitor outside of the gallery. The steel frames that protected you inside the galleries, now form an arcade on the outside and through dilutions and condensations frame the sea. There is a gradual deconstruction of the arcade until it reaches the sea level.

04 CABIN
MODULES BY iR ARQUITECTURA
During the ninth annual Hello Wood Festival in Hungary under the theme of ‘Cabin Fever’, students from around the world collaborated to build seven contemporary cabin prototypes. Under the notion that a house is defined by the various needs of its users, this cabin prototype was built using separate portable modules. The Cabin modules scheme is composed of separate portable elements, each designed for a different purpose, such as a kitchen, bedroom, communal area, or storage. The scheme is powered by solar energy for cooking, while a Trombe wall absorbs and stores heat from the sunlight and feeds it via air vents to the living area. The communal area is covered by a transparent polycarbonate roof, under which plants can be grown.

05 ATHENIO
DANCE SCHOOL
concrete and steel construction with metal details
Athenio is located in the area of Keramikos, a historical area that hosts numerous ancient sculptures erected along Piraios street. The plot is surrounded by the archaeological site and park of Keramikos and facing the Acropolis hill at the same time. After the analysis of the area, the main idea is to enhance the connection between the park and the new building. In order to achieve this goal, we designed a curved and inclined platform facing the park, which creates the illution of the continuation of the park into the building. By elevating the ground we also created space for a theatre underneath. To enhance furthermore the visual connection with the park, we placed on the ground floor all the public and social spaces, which are open to the public. Lastly, the above long volume concludes the design, by hosting all the needed rooms for the operation of the Dance School, like offices, classrooms, and dance rooms.

CITY MUSEUM/ OBSERVATORY
steel structure with glass cladding
The objective of the project is to host several cultural events that take place in Elefsina as the European Capital of Culture of 2021. Elefsina is renowed for its ancient history as well as for its recent industrial development. Due to its rich past, Elefsina represents a combination of building fragments from different chronologies and architectural styles. A city with rich historical background and unique character. After the study of the different chronological periods and the development of the area, the main idea of the proposal is to highlight and simultaneously bring together all the city’s fragments into a total. In order to achieve this goal, we chose to place the ‘Open City Museum’ on the top of the city’s hill.

The Observatory consists of a steel horizontal structure with steel vertical extensions, covered with glass panels. The modules are oriented to views that are important elements of the city’s history (city’s fragments). The whole idea is based on the Greek mythology about the goddess of Demeter and the abduction of her daughter. At the same time, the book ‘Invisible Cities’ by Italo Calvino was really valuable in understanding how to approach an ‘invisible city’ under the existing one.

By designing this open space museum, we opt to give the opportunity to visitors to experience the city of Elefsina in two different ways and to help them understand all the historic layers beneath the fragments.

The apartment is located in the city center of Bologna, inside a historical building. The flat still has the original old floor tiles, that we decided to maintain as a fragment of its history. The design has minimal style with modern elements, that compliment the decorated flooring. The long corridor separates the flat into two zones, the live and the quiet. On the live side there are the kitchen and the living room and on the quiet side the master bedroom and the studio. On the one side of the corridor, there is a built-in closet concealing the utility room and providing extra storage.

Porto, Portugal May - June 2020 Competition Summary Architecture Office
The competition concerns the destrict of Lordelo do Ouro in Porto. It is composed by three separate buildings, combining three different typologies of apartments. For this collective housing buildings, and within the limitations of the site’s area and the budget, we set 2 basic requirements: to provide each apartment with the best possible privacy but also to create interesting and meaningful common and open spaces.
building 1 building 3
Using a pre-fabricated concrete building system, we aim to optimize time and cost of construction and workforce. The structure is simple with bearing, parallel and vertical walls, over which it is supported a wide slab. With the only difference made on the facade by designing diagonal walls to optimize the balconies’ space and create extra interest.
