Lignite Fly Ash Our fly ash products are under quality control system to ensure the product standard quality. EGAT’s lignite fly ash products have good binding properties and are therefore an excellent choice for construction material.
Lignite Bottom Ash The Mae Moh lignite bottom ash offers excellent potential for use as an aggregate in road construction or concrete as well in the production of concrete blocks for various construction works. Bottom ash is able to be used for agricultural purposes as well.
Synthetic Gypsum EGAT’s synthetic gypsum offers excellent potential use as raw material for the production of cement and fiber cement. Our synthetic gypsum can help slow the setting of cement and thus contributes to the higher strength and durability of cement. Synthetic gypsum can also be used as a raw material in producing organic fertilizer to help improve soil quality.

Corporate Social Responsibility
W E I
T A V G E VER O
EGAT has carried out both CSR in process and CSR after process taking into account the participation of the public and sustainable development of the quality of life and the environment.
Environmental Activity for Sustainable Development
The activities of EGAT in environmental protection as a whole focus on environmental management for sustainable development and the determination to become an organization with social and environmental responsibility. EGAT strictly complies with the relevant law and legal provision concerning environment. There is focus on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), and Health Impact Assessment (HIA). ISO 14001 and the Thai Industrial Standard on Occupational Health and Safety (TIS 18001) are implemented from the early phase of power plant construction up to the operation phase coupled with the regular organization of activities to increase participatory process and public hearings. EGAT has continuously monitored the quality of the environment as a result of the operation in electricity generation in terms of water quality, water ecology, ambient air quality, air quality emitted from the stack, noise level, electromagnetic field, and waste. This is to prevent various impacts which may occur from the operation to comply with the limit specified in the standards which are enforced by the law and to improve the environmental quality as a whole. We also promote and participate with all sectors in raising awareness and recognition of environmental conservation through the various campaigns.
OVERVIEW | 19
Demand Side Management (DSM) EGAT has implemented demand side management actively since 1993 until today. Various projects have been implemented to promote the effective and economical use of electricity in all sectors including household, business, and industry as well as increasing the awareness of the youth in the effective use of electricity to prolong the availability of electricity. The tangible result of demand side management from 1993 - 2014 is the reduction of energy consumption of 3,538.8 MW and reduction of carbon dioxide emission of 12.3 million tons. Some of the successful projects are such as:
• The Label No.5 project which represents high performance electrical appliances which require less energy and help reduce the electricity cost of the households.
• Promotion of LED lighting equipment among the public sector: LED street lamps have been used in EGAT’s offices, dam sites, and power plants and will be extended to other organizations in the future. From the study, LED light bulb can reduce the power use for 60-70 percent. EGAT has signed a memorandum of understanding with the producers and retailers to sell, at reasonable price, Label No.5 LED tube, bulb and treaded E27 of the 5 watt and 7-8 watt placed in EGAT boxes. An international exposition for lighting equipment (LED Expo Thailand 2014) was organized by EGAT to expand the market for energy saving appliances. Furthermore, cooperation has been made with monetary institutions to promote distribution of Label No. 5 energy saving appliances.
• “Green School” project: In 2014, 112 schools successfully passed the assessment as “Green Schools”. The project aims to promote the energy management and reduction of carbon dioxide in a systematic and tangible manner in the educational institutions.

Greenhouse Gas Reduction
W E I
T A V G E VER O
EGAT has implemented many projects with the aim to reduce carbon dioxide emission especially through reforestation and power plant efficiency improvement.
In the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gas by international mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol, EGAT has strengthened the energy efficiency of Mae Moh Power Plant through retrofitting the turbines Unit 10-11 with traceability test to apply to the CDM Executive Board (CDM EB) for certification. This project has been recognized from UNFCCC as the largest CDM in Thailand and has the largest carbon credit per year in the world. Moreover, EGAT has implemented Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) which consists of 8 projects for renewable energy. It is estimated that they will be able to reduce the greenhouse gas by 201,893 tCO2/year.
For the voluntary greenhouse gas reduction according to the Thai standard (Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program : T-VER), 2 prototype programs are the Downstream Hydropower Plant of Naresuan Dam, Phitsanulok Province and the Lam Ta Khong Wind Turbine Power Plant, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The two projects have been registered and have passed traceability test and certified by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) as the T-VER projects which have been able to reduce greenhouse gas by 16,914 tons carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e).
OVERVIEW | 21
Regarding the 21st yearly session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Paris, France, from November 30 to December 11, 2015, Thailand was intent on reducing greenhouse gas emission by 20-25% in 2030. EGAT has played a part in stopping global warming during the first phase (2015-2020) through Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) which are comprised of: 1. Power plant replacement according to Thailand Power Development Plan (PDP) 2015 2. Electricity generation from renewable energy 3. Improvement of power generation efficiency through medium-term maintenance plan of power plants 4. Improvement of efficient use of power through EGAT operations
