MOTIVES I have always found Dutch architecture playful yet very rational. When I moved to The Netherlands I got the chance to work in a known and respectable architecture firm “Inbo”. Working there was an enriching experience for me, as a recently graduated student. I was lucky to work on a wide range building projects, which involved concept design development, 3D modeling, artistic impressions, drafting and even supervising the construction of my first landscape design project. Even though, all the new challenges in architectural practice were interesting, I still felt a missing link with the academic environment. Therefore, I attended a Master track of Architecture in TU Delft. Studies were a real breakthrough for my mind in terms of great amount of intelligent people from all around the world and eye opening discussions. That was the key moment in my carrier, when I got the opportunity to do my master thesis in Chicago. Beside the chance of finally seeing and experiencing the great American archi-
tecture school, I have also learnt more about its culture, economics and politics. Since graduating with Master of Science degree from TU Delft in 2014, I began preparing myself for the next career step in America. With that in mind I became a Junior Architect in a mid-size firm “Barcode Architects”, that has an international perspective. That was a pleasantly challenging experience, which improved my confidence on many different levels of architectural practice –from technical execution of the project to its coordination, etc. However, as successfully as it went, that made me ready for the long waited step to move to New York city, that I consider to be the world’s cultural hub. I believe that such an opportunity would be a great leap for my professional development. Moreover, I see that also as a possible departure point of my own architectural practice in Lithuania to share knowledge and experience I’ve collected along the way.

The facade image of Wijnhaven 69 has two unique characters; the south and north facades are very transparent, allow plenty of light and offer residents a spectacular view over the river and the city. The east and west facades are more closed and provide a pleasant privacy to the neighboring towers. Such a treatment creates solid and expressive character of the building.

SOUTHWORKS MAKERS HUB Project intends to identify a major problem causing high unemployment, low education and no free time activities in south Chicago, which form a loop of problems enhancing each other. Therefore, the building is being proposed as a long term system disrupting the loop and reducing the magnitude of the issues by engaging community in the overall design development. As a result, Makers hub introducing a light industry in a range from analogue visual arts to high tech fabrication, as a place where people learn new skills, through practice and apply them for economic benefit.
Creative incubator in South Chicago location: Chicago, USA institution: TU Delft tutor: Darrel Ronald (KCAP), darrel@maketank.org state: master thesis project 2014 06
Accordingly, the building becomes a seed as a first step in cluster’s development but due to uncertainty of long term development and link to urban strategy the hub turns into a flexible framework adapting through time to the changing conditions. Common space is being defined as fixed and essential factor of the building with ability to be connected to temporary programmatic elements. The common space itself becomes a programmable area, where diverse functions are interacting and exchanging knowledge.

DELFT - VELD 5
The design for Vield 5 shows a very much layered proposal. The building volume intelligently translates urban design principles and conditions of the master plan prepared by our ‘New Delft. On the scale of the city it undertakes the design ‘New Delft both historic Delft and the water surrounding the development Kolk. The design refers to taking an innovative approach to the structure of the old
town with its narrow streets and hidden courtyards. The building heights refer to the master plan set to 20 meters line and finally makes the offset of the building mass. That brings diversity in building heights and forms the scale suitable for a pleasant and Delft appropriate size. This ensures that development does not become too large or iconic, but just presents itself as a versatile and exciting

MONUMENT OF UNITY
The plan fits into the time-line of a consistent vision on the centre of Washington for the past two centuries. The McMillan plan of approximately a century ago laid the foundation of the current space. The intention was to avoid of interventions which distract from this vision. Make building possible on the locations proposed by McMillan, especially on the southeast side, so the central space becomes more defined. Moreover, it was important to avoid cluttering of buildings and institutions by concentrating on below ground interventions and by doing so keep the central space empty. While, vegetation is used sparsely, as to not interfere with the vastness of the central space around the Monument. Only some additional planting to reinforce the symmetry of the east west axis. Eventually, the singular identity of the obelisk must remain the main feature. In order to ensure that, the iconic presence of the obelisk can’t be compromised with by adding other structures.

The circle symbolizes one nation, a heterogeneous population that shares the American Dream and enjoys the legacy of George Washington, freedom and integrity. KRETINGA TOWN SQUARE The Central square of Kretinga has been an important gathering space for the local community for centuries and was a central trading spot for the farmers from the whole region. Its significance has been declining. Reducing population meant less users of public spaces. Widened road network detached space from surrounding blocks and the invasion of big scale super-market reduced small scale commercial activities in the city. Urban space proposal suggest that central city square has to offer much more to local residents, than a monumental event space. On the one hand encouraging local authorities to concentrate less on tourism and more on the actual needs of the locals, and on the other, to provide diversity of activities, attracting people to the square every day.
Tools:
Theme of the project: Restore + Improve + Create
Connecting zone: A street moving from Vytautas street towards old Paupio street, open space with surrounding architectural elements.
Square is divided into three zones: buffer zone, connecting zone and central zone (market and chamber squares). Market square: open public multifunctional space where events and weekend markets can be hosted. Buffer zone: surrounds the square and serves everyday needs of citizens. A place to sit and chat, have a snack, observe whatever happens around. Chamber square: a cosy circular square in the middle of the park. It can work as a whole or be separated in four parts.
Restore – historical character of the city, improve existing elements of urban structure and create unifying zone for everyday activity container and event space for citizens and city guests.

To Whom it May Concern, Egidijus Kasakaitis has been employed as a junior architects at BARCODE Architects in the period between 01.06.2015 and 30.09.2016. BARCODE Architects is an ambitious and dynamic office based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. With a motivated team of architects and urban designers BARCODE Architects strives to find new creative concepts and innovative ideas. We push boundaries and try to go beyond the prevailing directions of today’s architecture and urban planning. Egidijus worked with us on the following important projects: -
Bartok Housing – Arnhem Wijnhaven 69, Rotterdam Veld 5 - Delft Collection Center of the Netherlands (CCN) Nijmegen Metterswane Dresden hafen competition Arnhem plot K2 and G Sluishuis - Amsterdam
Egidijus is a motivated and enthusiastic architect with a range of skills and abilities. At all times I have found him to be diligent, hard-working, reliable and thorough. His contributions to the team included the skilled development of projects during design phases, as well as a consistently rigorous follow through into technical production stages. He regularly brought his technical knowledge to bear, to reinforce ideas that were established during earlier project stages. He has excellent communication and coordination skills, and was regularly expected to delegate tasks and monitor the work of junior employees. I would highly recommend Egidijus and he will be a valuable asset to your organization. If you have any further questions with regard to his background or qualifications, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely,
