Helpful Tips for DEERS/ID Customers DID YOU KNOW?...

Sponsors (active duty, retired, guard and reserve personnel) must advise the nearest uniformedservices ID facility of any dependent family member additions or changes that affect DEERS enrollment, eligibility entitlements and issuance of IDs for family members.

DID YOU KNOW?...

Students ages 21-23 remain eligible for DEERS and TRICARE with a letter from the school registrar. The letter must certify the student’s full-time course of study leading to an associate’s degree or higher as well as the student’s anticipated graduation date. In lieu of a letter from the registrar's office, enrollment verification from a third-party organization such as National Student Clearinghouse will be accepted.

ADULT ARCHERY CLINIC?

BULLSEYE.

If you’re looking for an

adventure that takes you back to medieval times, then the Outdoor Recreation (ODR) adult archery clinic is for you! In my search for adventure and examples of ODR’s support of the Eglin community, I attended the clinic in November and had a great experience.

taught us the different safety procedures and techniques of archery, and then the fun began - trying to score the most points by hitting our targets. I can say with confidence that archery is not nearly as easy as it seems, but it was a rewarding challenge.

Erik Dahl, ODR program coordinator, is the instructor for the clinic. “There has always been a substantial demand from the Eglin community for this, so we try and offer it at least quarterly,” he said. After attending the clinic, I can certainly see why there’s high demand for it!

Erik answered our questions and provided helpful tips throughout the clinic from his instruction to our group’s friendly competition. His passion for what he does is clear. “I enjoy getting to assist in providing new and exciting experiences to the Eglin community and meeting new people every weekend,” he said.

Erik led our group from Postl Point to an open area with compound bows, arrows and targets ready for use. He

A unique part of my experience was that my fellow group members were all spouses of Italian military personnel

stationed at Eglin. They were all friends and supported each other - there was a healthy amount of teasing, too! They made my experience even more fun, and they showcased the benefits of participating in activities together. Whether your archery skills are incomparable or impossible, I highly recommend the adult archery clinic to anyone looking for a fun activity. As for the rest of what ODR has to offer, the possibilities are endless.

See Page 10 for information on ODR's next Adult Archery Clinic Natalie is the public affairs specialist for the 96 FSS Marketing Department. She's a graduate of the University of Florida (go Gators!) and has lived in the Eglin area for about two years. Her passions include playing Legend of Zelda video games, watching the Great British Baking Show and petting any and all dogs she sees.

To win, knock out the opposing team's members and disc targets while defending your team and set of targets. Eliminate a player by hitting him or her with an arrow or by catching his or her arrow. Revive an eliminated teammate by hitting an opponent's target or catching an opponent's arrow. Archery Tag introduces individuals to archery through a safe, fun and unique experience. Cost is $15 per person and includes all equipment needed to participate. Games are played at Postl Point and are open to all base personnel and their registered guests. BER REMEME'S DAY IN VALENTNDAY SU 4 FEB 1

STAY-AT-HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS

Although going out for a night on the town can be fun, sometimes it’s nice to enjoy a date from the comfort of your own home! Check out these ideas for inspiration on your next date night:

FUN FACTS!

Every year millions of American households give Valentine’s Day presents to their pets. (Don't worry, if you forget, there's always National Love Your Pet Day on Feb. 20)

• Build a pillow fort and camp in the living room • Pamper yourselves and your skin with a spa day

The first valentine in recorded history was written in the early 1500s by Charles, Duke of Orleans after he was captured at the Battle of Agincourt.

• Challenge each other and workout

In the Victorian Era, those who didn’t want the attention of certain suitors would anonymously send vile “vinegar valentines” that comically insulted and rejected unwanted admirers.

• Start planning a future vacation or staycation

Thousands of romantics send love letters every year to Juliet in Verona, Italy to commemorate Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet.”

• Play your favorite music and dance • Take on a home-improvement project together

• Get competitive with a game night — complete with prizes!

D.I.Y. GLASS JAR GIFTS DATE NIGHT JAR • Customize popsicle sticks with some favorite date

ideas, plus a few new options. Place the sticks in a mason jar, and take turns picking one whenever the two of you want to spend time together! For families, substitute with group activities to bring everyone together.

JAR OF KISSES • Show your sweet side and fill a mason jar with your valentine’s favorite candy!

BAKING JAR • Give a ready-to-make sweet treat! Portion and layer dry

ingredients from your favorite cookie recipe into a mason jar — just don’t forget to include the recipe for the rest of the ingredients.

CHILDHOOD + YOUTH CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTERS ••• eglinlife.com/cdc

(Due to COVID-19, check for reduced services) Parents of children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age can receive comprehensive child care services at one of Eglin's two Child Development Center (CDC) locations. Full day care, hourly drop-in care (on a space-available basis), and Florida Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) programs are provided by a compassionate staff of certified professionals.

FAMILY CHILD CARE ••• eglinlife.com/fcc The Eglin Family Child Care (FCC) office is a parent's network for connecting with on-base and affiliated off-base child care providers operating from their homes — a high-quality alternative to center-based care. All FCC providers are licensed and certified by not only the State of Florida but also Eglin leadership, and must operate by Air Force standards. SCHOOL AGE CARE ••• eglinlife.com/schoolage (Due to COVID-19, check for reduced services) Before and after school programs — as well as full-day camps and activities during spring, summer, and winter breaks — are all provided for children ages 5-12 at Eglin's School Age Care (SAC) facility. With a goal to develop interests, enhance life skills, encourage positivity and promote self-worth, SAC provides a safe, nurturing, and age-appropriate environment for youngsters. SCHOOL LIAISON ••• eglinlife.com/slo The mission of Eglin's School Liason office (SLO) is to eliminate barriers and build bridges for the academic success of military connected children, grades K-12. Through networks and partnerships with local and global communities, the SLO works to assist Active Duty parents with education matters that are unique to their children and the military lifestyle. eglinlife.com/slo YOUTH CENTER ••• eglinlife.com/youth (Due to COVID-19, check for reduced services) The Eglin Youth Center goes above and beyond to provide a "Positive Place For Kids!" Youth up to age 18 partake in year-round activities that promote character and leadership development, life skills, education, arts, fitness and sports — all in a safe, supervised environment. 22

NEW! Incentives for Family Child Care Providers DAF/A1SOC and AFSVC/SVPY are launching an AF Family Child Care (FCC) Initiative to increase the number of quality, available, and affordable child care spaces with an emphasis on recruitment and retention of FCC full-time providers. This initiative will be implemented until September 30, 2021.

INCENTIVE 1 — If a provider enrolls any child from the active

CDC Unmet Need or any children who were supplanted from child care and the provider is providing full time care for these children, the provider will receive a one-time payment of $200 per child. Note: If a child does not remain enrolled for at least 3 months, then the $200 payment is subject to repayment.

INCENTIVE 2 — Any providers who receive their certification or annual renewal of their certification during this test phase will receive a one-time payment of $300. Note: If the provider does not remain certified for at least 6 months, then the $300 payment is subject to repayment.

BECOME AN FCC PROVIDER! Applications are available online at eglinlife.com/fcc For information on the next new provider orientation, contact the FCC staff at eglinfcc@gmail.com
