Rock Festival 2019
Saturday, May 11 | 2 pm Festivites, 7 pm Concert | Postl Point
Eglin is set to host Air Force Entertainment's Live Stage Rock Festival featuring Grammy-nominated band Sum 41 with special guest band We The Kings at Postl Point on Saturday, May 11. The day will kick off with an opening ceremony at 2 pm followed by a food truck rally and beverage sales, a car show featuring Emerald Coast Exotic Cars of Destin, and an appearance by popular local band Swingtown. The main stage opens at 7 pm with performances by We The Kings followed by Sum 41. Admission to the event is FREE and open to all DoD ID card holders and their guests. Audience members are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets for concert seating. Video or audio recording is not permitted. Backpack and large handbags are discouraged, and such items may be subject to immediate search upon request. This event is brought to you by Air Force Entertainment (AFE), a part of the Air Force Services Activity. AFE's ongoing mission is to provide installations with no-cost quality entertainment for Airmen and families.
Homef ront Heroes 2019 Saturday, May 11 2 - 3 pm | Postl Point
Eglin's Airman and Family Readiness Center is holding a special Homefront Heroes Award Ceremony to honor the spouses and children of currently or recently deployed personnel. The ceremony is at Postl Point and is open to all Eglin AFB, Duke Field, and 7th SFG, and Tyndall families who experienced a deployment between May 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019. • Military Spouse Appreciation Scavenger Hunt May 1-10 | Due Friday, May 10
In honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day, the Eglin Airman & Family Readiness Center is holding a Military Spouse Scavenger Hunt! Pick up your passport on Wednesday, May 1 and follow each clue to learn about what Eglin AFB can offer military spouses. Turn in passports on Friday, May 10 for a sweet surprise. Join the Eglin Airman & Family Readiness Center and learn more about how DoD and VA education benefits can help Service members and dependents pay for, or offset, the cost of tuition, housing, books, and supplies. This class will cover available benefits, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The briefings are held once a month at the A&FRC from 1-2 pm and are open to Active Duty Military, retirees, and dependents. • SAPI: Foilboarding Experience Sunday, May 12 | 10 am
* This is a Single Airman Initiative Program (SAPI) event open to Active Duty and Reserve Component officers or enlisted members who are without a spouse, plus one guest. Eglin Outdoor Recreation is offering a Foilboarding Experience to 8 eligible SAPI participants, hosted by XL Kites! A Foilboard is a surfboard with a hydrofoil that extends below the board into the water, which allows the board to leave the surface of the water at various speeds. Participants will meet at the Outdoor Rec Center at Postl Point, and are encouraged to bring water, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a towel. Each participant will get about 20 minutes on the board. • Kayak Clinic
Sunday, May 12 | 1 pm Get out on the water with Eglin Outdoor Recreation for an introductory Kayak Clinic at Postl Point! Learn how to use a sit on top kayak and the fundamentals of boat control, proper paddling technique, potential hazards, and simple rescues. Students will be able to practice maneuvering on flat-water using entry-level paddling skills. Cost is $20 per person and includes instruction and kayak rental. Participation is open to all base personnel and their guests, ages 8 and up. Class size is limited, so contact Outdoor Rec to sign up early. Classes may be rescheduled due to inclement weather. Come out and enjoy Chef Bill's Taco Bar at the Bayview! We're celebrating Bayview Members with a FREE buffet for Bayview members and their immediate family.
