Eglin Open Championship

Friday, Oct 5 | Welcome Party: 5 pm Saturday, Oct 6 | Shotgun Start: 8 am Sunday, Oct 7 | Tee Time Start: 7:30 am The Eglin Golf Course invites all eligible golfers to the Eglin Open Championship, with great payouts and prizes including door prizes and contests like Closest to Pin, Putting, and the Hole-In-One prize of a FREE CAR! Participation is open to all authorized DoD personnel and their sponsored guests. A Welcome Party will be held Friday evening, and Championship Play will take place Saturday on the Falcon Course and Sunday on the Eagle Course. Play is 36-hole stroke play, flighted.Divisions include Championship (up to age 49), Senior (50 - 59), Advanced Senior (60-69), Super Seniors (70+), and Ladies (all ages). Overall champions and flight champions will receive a trophy and a $250 credit book. Registration deadline is Wed, Oct 3.

Educational Disc

Golf Experience (EDGE)

Saturday, September 29 | 11 am - 2 pm

Eglin Outdoor Recreation is hosting the Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) at Postl Point. The EDGE program is committed to promoting an active lifestyle through growing the sport of disc golf by teaching disc golf fundamentals and allied skills. The event is geared toward all ages, all skill levels, and will include multiple games, prizes, and giveaways. Participation is FREE and open to all authorized base access, with lunch provided. Operation Hero

Saturday, October 13 | 9:30 am or 11 am Hangar 103

A mock deployment experience open to all Team Eglin children, youth, and teens. The deployment experience consists of three phases. Phase 1 is the deployment processing line, where participants are issued their dog tags and ID's, plus receive t-shirts and other giveaways. In Phase 2, participants and parents will take part in fun activities presented by a variety of base and community supporters, including face painting, deployment demonstrations, and military vehicles and weapons displays. In Phase 3, participants will receive a hero's "welcome home" reception with food for all to enjoy, plus K-9 demonstrations, aircraft displays, and more. Sign ups are mandatory by Oct 5.

• Full Moon Kayak

Tuesday • September 25 | 7 pm

This two-hour guided excursion will take participants on a kayaking trip to a small secluded beach for an amazing view of the night sky, a small fire with s'mores, and a moonlit paddle back to Postl Point. Participation is open to all base personnel and registered guests, ages 16 and older, who have some prior kayaking experience. Cost is $20 per person and includes all necessary equipment and ingredients for s'mores. Single and double kayaks are available. Pre-registration is required. Outdoor Rec | 850-882-5058

• Front Desk Training

Monday - Friday • September 24 - 28 | 9 am - 2:30 pm

FREE Front Desk Training, exclusively for spouses of active duty Air Force members stationed on Eglin. Training includes customer service, salesmanship, conflict resolution, workplace professionalism, and phone skills. Five sessions of training provide opportunity to receive "National Hospitality Certification" and assistance in acquiring employment in the local area. • Operation Fit Camp: FREE Circuit Training Begins September 25 • Tuesday & Thursday | 11 am

Beginning September 25, the Eglin Fitness Center is hosting FREE circuit training every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. at the pavilion behind the Fitness Field House. Workouts will last under one hour and are FREE to ID card holders ages 18 and up. Attendees must sign a health questionnaire prior to class participation. Fitness Center | 850-882-6223

Family Fun Golf

Sundays | Family Discounts begin at 2 pm | Falcon It's family fun on the Falcon Course every Sunday afternoon starting at 2 p.m.! An adult accompanied by a child age 8 to 17 pays HALF-PRICE green fees, and the accompanying child plays for FREE. Golf cart and equipment rentals are available at regular price. The Pro Shop has balls, tees, sunscreen, hats, and everything needed to enjoy your afternoon together. Children must be 8 years or older to go on the Golf Course. 850-882-2949

Basketball Game

Take the ultimate battle of Teens vs Parents to the court – the basketball court! The Eglin Youth Center will host the Teens vs. Parents Basketball Game on Friday, November 2, from 5-6:30 p.m. The event is free with a prize for the winning team! Chef Ernie’s is excited to feature Reggie Reed of the Temptations performing the hits we all know and love! Josh Sirten will open the night and join Reggie for some iconic collaborations of Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. Admission is $10 per person. Show time is 6-9 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. Dinner menu, including selections for children, will be available from 5-10 p.m. Seating is limited, so make your reservations early. • SAPI Flyboading Experience Sunday • September 30

Eglin Outdoor Recreation invites all single airmen to experience Flyboarding with XL Kites! Flyboard is a brand of hydroflighting device that supplies propulsion to drive the flyboard in the air to perform hyrdroflying. A Flyboard rider stands on a board connected by a long hose to a watercraft. This excursion is a SAPI event open to single airmen without a spouse stationed at Eglin. Cost is $25 per person (airmen are able to sign up one non-eligible guest.) Each participant is allotted 20 minutes on the flyboard. Participants are encouraged to bring water, sunglasses, sunscreen, a towel, and a change of clothes. Availability is limited to 8 signups. Outdoor Rec | 850-882-5058

SPECIAL NOTICE Beginning Sep 17, the Eglin AFB fence line clearing contractor will begin work on the area from POSTL POINT TO THE EAST GATE. The contractor will be clearing brush and trees up to 12 feet on both sides of the fence line. The equipment used can throw wood chips and debris up to 300 feet. THE RUNNING TRAILS WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE CLEANING to ensure the safety of the runners who utilize them. 850-882-6223

• Active Parenting of Teens

Thursdays • October 4, 11, 18 & 25 | 11:30 am - 1 pm

4-session "Active Parenting of Teens" workshop will be held each Thursday beginning October 4. Parents of teens are invited to attend and receive the guidance and support they need for turning the challenges of raising a teenager into opportunities for growth. Classes will be held as 90-minute sessions beginning at 11:30 a.m. each day. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, and to attend all 4 sessions.
