Board Meeting & Teleconference As reported in the last Newsletter, EGLSF Board Members met in Budapest in January. The focus of the meeting was the Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Rome, the EuroGames 2008 in Barcelona and several other items. Regarding the AGA, special emphasis was given to the changes in the Statutes and Bylaws (the proposal text for changes was already sent to out members end of January). AGA papers are being prepared and completed, and they will be made available in mid February. We also have to mention that at the AGA in order to have voting rights, the clubs have to send us the Membership Form for 2008 and pay the membership fee prior to the AGA. Some exceptions can be made to

EGLSF Board also held a teleconference on February 5, 2008. The teleconference served as a follow-up to the Budapest board meeting, and for discussing other urgent issues. You can read some highlights and findings in this newsletter.
Annual General Assembly At the present time, there are over 140 registered participants for the AGA, including the team from EuroGames 2007 in Antwerp and the team from EuroGames 2008 in Barcelona. The AGA papers will be sent within a week by email to all participants, and will also be available online. The board is looking forward to our discussions at AGA, and we request everybody who intends to put forward motions, to send them to anne@eglsf.info or pepe@eglsf.info. On February 15 we are closing the AGA accommodation options. While the registration for the AGA can continue, the organisers do not ensure accommodation.
Gender Issue is hot – Rome conference booked Almost 70 people registered to participate in our first Gender Conference during AGA 2008 in Rome. We are very pleased with this response, and feel encouraged to continue our efforts to reach gender balance within EGLSF. With Saskia Morell from Cologne and Thomas Kugler from Berlin, we have contracted two experienced gender trainers, who are also well acquainted with the LGBT-community. The scheme is to have a series of events alike, to equip our membership with sufficient gender competence to achieve change at their home base, and within EGLSF-bodies like AGA and the board. As we expect valuable outcome of this professionalized approach, we consider negotiating continuous cooperation with the trainers, to facilitate change on club level.
All those, who have been admitted to participate, we wish a pleasant and instructive day. Those, who had to step back, please keep informed and be positive for the next event. Confirmation Letters have been sent out on 9th February to the email address indicated at registration. If you haven’t received any message yet, urgently contact Gisela Weil at gisela@eglsf.info.
Update on EuroGames By now, about 2.500 people have registered for the EuroGames. As payment has been enabled end January, we urge the registered people to fulfill payment. Some sports are already reaching the maximum capacity so register soon! Full report will be presented in Rome by the organisers.
Outgames 2006 information Follow the link www.montreal2006.info to be taken back in time, back to the restored site of the 1st World Outgames in Montreal in 2006. The website is now restored, and the next step is to include the results of the Outgames on the website for all participants and interested visitors.
Advocacy EGLSF in Dutch ministerial document In November 2007, after having talks with LGBT organizations in The Netherlands, the newly formed government published its policy on lesbian and gay emancipation 2008-2011. The document of 82 pages shows how the Dutch Government wants to ameliorate the situation for LGBT
people in all kinds of areas including sports. Main target of the policy is to ameliorate the social acceptance of lesbians and gays in Dutch society. One of the five pillars is: “Contribute to a gayfriendly environment at school, at work and in sports.” Doing so, the Dutch government says it wants to play an active international and European role in LGBT emancipation. Stichting Homosport Nederland (sHN) and the Nederlandse Culturele Sportbond (NCS), both EGLSF members and EGLSF board member Lou Manders actively participated in these talks that lead to this policy. This is the first time EGLSF and FARE are mentioned in a national government policy document. The Dutch government invited NCS and sHN to co-operate on creating “gay & straight” alliances in sports. Furthermore the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports will actively support projects leading to a tolerant climate for LGBT athletes. The policy is at present only available in Dutch. The document can be downloaded at the site of the Ministry of education, culture and sciences: www.minocw.nl/ onderwijs. As soon as the English version is available, a link will be published at www.eglsf.info.

News submitted by our members Posters on Homosexuality and Football 21 January 2008 n June the UEFA EURO 2008 will take place in Austria and Switzerland. QWIEN (spell Queen) will organize a poster competition about homosexuality and football to discuss homophobia in soccer. An exhibition of the posters during the competition in the centre of the city will help to make queers visible in this mainstream event. The online-edition of the renowned Austrian newspaper Diestandard will organize a people’s voting presenting the winner at the Viennese CSD on July 12. Madpoint adopts gender equality policy 25 January 2008 Madpoint, a gay tennis club set in Madrid, Spain, with more than 70 members, has been the first one in Spain to comply
with parity between men and women in directive posts after the appointment of Mariate Escalada as co-president. Madpoint and Escalada became one of the pioneers in complying with the recommendation presented in the last European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation General Assembly held in Madrid, where the hundred clubs where asked to promote the appointment of women in head positions. Madpoint General Assembly, recently held, noted that recommendation and modified its statutes to proceed, by unanimous vote of the members in the Assembly, to the appointment of Mariate Escalada as female co-president. She shares this position with the former sole president of the Madrid sports club, Juan David Iniesta Garcia. Escalada’s aim with this step of creating a female co-presidency is to serve as an example and as a special incentive to attract more girls to play tennis in our club. From its foundation, two years ago, Madpoint has made an important effort to increase female participation in the club activities. Since the beginning, Mrs Escalada has made out one of the most active and respected members in the club. In fact, her appointment as co-president was unanimous in the last general assembly of the club. The new female co-president already has her first “institutional” mission, since she will be Madpoint representative in the next Annual General Assembly of the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation to be held in Rome. The efforts for additional female involvement will continue in Madpoint star activity, the international tournament Madrid Tennis Open on the 20th-22th of June in Madrid, with several initiatives, both of image and of organization. http://www.madpoint.org

Gayski 2008 Copenhagen, Denmark 8 Mar – 16 Mar 2008 We go to Ischgl in week 11, 2008 – and you are invited! This year Gayski Denmark 2008 has arranged our ski tour to Ischgl, Austria, in week 11. We expect to be around 80 gays, guys and girls, from Denmark who will spend the week skiing in the lovely Alps. If you or your team are planning for a ski tour next year (and I know some of you are ...) it would be a great idea to plan for Ischgl 8th to 16th of March 2008. Doing this we arrange our own international ski event without paying the high price we normal have to pay for a gay ski week! And we have chosen the best week in the season! If a great number of us participate I’m sure the town will know how to benefit from this – for our pleasure! I can imagine special gay after skiing, discos and gay nights in town. We will have the opportunity to set the agenda for Ischgl this week of the
