Each year, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO), sees actions and initiatives take place in many countries and contexts and on many different issues. All these activities and initiatives are a very strong signal to all, decisions makers, public opinion, civil rights movements, human rights defenders, etc. throughout the world that our fights for our Rights as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersex and queer individuals is vibrant! IDAHO provides all different kind of actors with a powerful opportunity to express their demands and to advocate for their case. IDAHO aims at using the extra public, political and media attention to combat discrimination and the phobia. This year, the often neglected but important issue of Transphobia is being highlighted.
“Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. Coretta Scott King, American activist

proud of the concrete actions and campaigns carried out by our parters and members. Special attention should be given to the campaign carried out in France by The French Premier League authorities (LFP) and Paris Foot Gay (PFG), taking actions in the field, by launching media campaign, taking actions against homophobic incidents and by signing charter against homophobia.
May 2009 EGLSF Board Meeting From May 21 to 24, the new EGLSF board held its first face to face meeting since the AGA in March. The board met in Benidorm, Spain for a four-day ‘Think Tank’. The meeting was aimed to pick up many of the issues raised at the AGA, particularly in relation to the following issues: Sponsorship and funding, sports development and raising standards, Communication, Advocacy, diversity and inclusion. Female EGLSF co-president Anne Jensen reports that there was much interest and commitment from members at the AGA, so we want to build on this enthusiasm to plan strategically for the future of EGLSF. It is imperative that we have a robust strategy in place if we are to continue to influence the LGBT sports development agenda both across Europe and globally. The launch of the EGLSF wiki platform will enable members to become more easily involved in the strategic development of the Federation through the working groups established at the AGA. These groups will contribute to the EGLSF business plan to be launched at the AGA in Manchester in March 2010. The volunteer leads of the working groups will be supported by designated Board members. Once the testing of the communicational tools is completed and fully operational, the volunteer working group leads will be contacted to begin
work in their chosen area. They will of course be looking for other volunteers with experience to join their working groups. So, if you want to be part of the development of the EGLSF, please look out for an update in the next newsletter to find out how to take part! Other issues discussed at the meeting included the development of the 2011 and 2012 Eurogames and the co-operation between Budapest and Rotterdam, membership, further enhancing the EGLSF gender policy, public relations, external relationships and partnerships. More information about the meeting and the actions taken will be available in the next newsletter.

News submitted by our members Day against homophobia celebrated in France 8 May 2009 The French Premier League authorities (Ligue de Football professionnel - LFP) and Paris Foot Gay (PFG) will unite their efforts on May 17th for the World Day against homophobia. For the first time, a national event will be held in association with professional clubs committed to fight discriminations. During the 36th day of the Premier League championship, several events will be organized in Premier League stadiums: a video cofinanced by the LFP will be shown on giant screens at the
Parc des Princes (Home stadium of the Paris Saint Germain club in Paris), at the Geoffroy Guichard stadium in Nantes (west of France) and the Louis II stadium in Monaco before the beginning of the games scheduled that day, May 16th. Long time partner of PFG, the Paris Saint Germain club, before its game against Auxerre at 9.00 pm on May 16th, will host a game at 7.00 pm between PFG and the Variétés club de France. The players of PSG and Auxerre will also be photographed with a banner saying “Red card to homophobia”. Last but not least, a banner will be displayed amongst the audience. The clubs of Auxerre, Monaco, Nice and Saint-Etienne have also committed to sign the Charter against homophobia, already signed by the LFP and the PSG. This 9th Day against Homophobia can be regarded as a turning point: never before professional football has shown so much commitment. PFG hopes other clubs will follow next season. Paris Foot Gay thanks French Premier League authorities (LFP) for its financial and logistical support, without which these events could not take place. European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) supports the initiative and encourages members, individuals, local, national and international organisations to take action against homophobia. http://www.parisfootgay.com
Against homophobia: Statement by Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe 17 May 2009 Everyone knows that homosexuals were arrested and sent to concentration camps by the Nazis, but it is less well known that after they were freed from the camps,

many homosexuals were forced to serve out their terms of imprisonment. This may seem shocking, but it was consistent with the deeply rooted discrimination against homosexuals in Europe at that time. And it was also consistent with the discrimination against homosexuals in the decades which followed. It was not until 1990 that the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from their list of mental illnesses and, until a few years ago, homosexuality was still a criminal offence in several European countries.
copenhagen2009.org.
Today, being a homosexual will no longer, at least not in a member state of the Council of Europe, result in being put in prison, but discrimination and homophobia still exist and not only on the margins of society. I condemn the homophobic violence perpetrated by skinheads, but it is heads of some political parties that I am really worried about. It is unacceptable that some people in positions of official or moral authority in Europe still behave as if the European Convention on Human Rights does not apply to homosexuals. People who discriminate often invoke morality to justify their attitude. They are making a relevant point, but they are getting it wrong. It is not the homosexuals who are immoral. It is the homophobes.

The Gay Games will be held in Cologne, Germany from July 31 to August 7, 2010, and registration for these games is already open at www.games-cologne.de. Since the two global LGBT sports events are held in Europe in 2009 and 2010, and an agreement between the organisers and EGLSF, there will be no EuroGames in these two years. Next EuroGames will be in 2011 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and in 2012 in Budapest, Hungary.
