Richard Lee, music director and conductor of the ETSO continues the season with works representing the American canon of classical music, old (ie. baroque) music and new music. They will begin new cycles featuring works by Haydn and Schubert, both woefully underperformed here, beginning with ETSO premieres of an obscure Haydn overture and Schubert’s well-known final symphony, “The Great.” All concerts are performed at the University of Texas at Tyler, R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. The concerts begin at 7:30pm. For more info or to purchase tickets, go to etso.org or call (903)566-7424. January 26th (7:30pm) - Charlie Chaplin: “The Gold Rush” - Richard Lee, the conductor will conduct the ETSO as they underscore the Charlie Chaplin film, “The Gold Rush,” as we follow the Tramp as he seeks his fortune in the lawless Klondike. The “Little Tramp” persona was not at all like the real Sir Charles Chaplin, the polished and accomplished actor, writer, director, composer, star, and producer for most of his movies. During his long career, Chaplin utilized the “slapstick” comedy most readily associated with this character in order to tackle “serious” subject matter. In “The Gold Rush,” Chaplin’s personal favorite, follow the Tramp as he seeks his fortune in the lawless Klondike, with a live soundtrack provided by the ETSO. March 23rd (7:30pm) - The 5 Browns with the ETSO will perform Brahms: Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G minor; Bach: Triple Concerto BWV 1064; mvt 1, Debussy: Clair de Lune; Poulenc: Concerto for Two Pianos in D minor; Muhly: The Edge of the World for Five Pianos and orchestra; and Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue. The 5 Browns enjoyed their first wave of critical attention in February 2002 when “People Magazine” dubbed them the “Fab Five” at about the same time they were featured on Oprah and 60 Minutes. “The New York Post” proclaimed: “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years.” The quintet has garnered extensive coverage from media outlets ranging from The Tonight Show to “The New York Times.” ETSO welcomes back The 5 Browns to perform solos, duets, trios, and their arrangements for all 5 pianos! April 27th (7:30pm) - Grammy®-winner Augustin Hadelich will perform on violin with conductor Richard Lee performing Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto and Schubert: “Great” Symphony in C Major. One of the most acclaimed artists of our time, Augustin Hadelich returns to East Texas to perform perhaps the most famous and demanding violin concerto in the repertory. The Juilliard-trained and Grammy-winning Hadelich describe the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as one of the “most exciting concertos…a very emotional piece full of character.” Hadelich’s goals

regarding the performance of this work include “communicating joy and excitement while balancing Mozartian (perhaps Tchaikovsky’s favorite composer) elegance with heart-on-yoursleeve Romanticism.” The concert and the season conclude with the ETSO premiere of Schubert’s final symphony.

Music Lee Mathis And The Brutally Handsome: Prettier Than Ever By Johnny Griffith

I love music. I love creating it, listening to it, and writing about it. Luckily, this area has some of the most talented musicians you’ll find anywhere, so I get the opportunity to listen to, and interview, some fantastic artists every month for EGuide. This month I got the pleasure of sitting down again with one of my personal favorites, Lee Mathis. A resident of Henderson, Mathis is a rebel in style and music. His distinctive beard and hair are recognizable in a crowded room, while his talent and old-school approach to music can hold that crowded room captive. A throwback to the outlaw country and troubadours from years gone by, Lee and The Brutally Handsome pay homage to the classics, but are equally as adept putting outlaw spins on modern covers that keep audiences engaged. We last interviewed Lee back in May of 2017 and in the meantime, there’s been an album out as well as some changes in the lineup of the band. With new faces and a new lineup in the works, I decided it was time for another sit-down to find out what’s old, what’s new, and what’s coming up in 2019. Johnny: The band has had some personnel changes over the past 18 months. What is the current lineup of The Brutally Handsome? Lee: Currently it’s me on lead vocals and lead guitar, Jon Morrow on bass and vocals, Marcus Jones on drums, and the newest member of the band, Sheila Weaver on fiddle, vocals, and guitar. Johnny: So does the new lineup mean we’ll be seeing Lee Mathis and the Terminally Pretty anytime soon? Lee: Ha, ha! Sheila does pretty the boys up,

for sure, and we talked about the name of the band with Sheila coming on board. Before we even gave it a second thought, she said, “Hey, I can be Brutally Handsome!” So, there you have it. Johnny: How excited are you to have a fiddle in the band? I mean, you can officially play in Texas now, right? Lee: As sung by a band from Alabama, right?! Seriously though, we’re super excited about having a fiddle! It opens up the range of songs we can do, from bluegrass to swing country like Bob Wills and George Strait, as well as our normal honky-tonk outlaw country! Johnny: Last time we sat down for this, you guys were doing about four originals per show. Where does that number stand now? Lee: That’s one of the things I’m most proud of. In a standard 3-4 hour show, we’re doing anywhere from 8-10 originals now including some brand new stuff which is some of our best work yet. Johnny: You’ve had an eventful 2018. Any good ideas for new songs come out of this past year? What’s your favorite original you do right now? Lee: I have a ton of songs that have been written in 2018 and even as far back as 2017. After “The Hard Stuff” album came out, I didn’t exactly stop writing, but you get busy playing shows and you mean to get around to it but don’t always. I do have a good way of taking quick notes in case I come up with good idea, title, or lyric while I’m driving. As far as my favorite original song that we do, I see more and more people request and sing along with “Something About the Rain” and I can’t help but think “are you kidding me?” Something I wrote is getting yelled out at shows like “Freebird?” It’s surreal, but I love it. I will say that a couple of new songs from our upcoming album in 2019, “Whiskey Revival” and “Don’t Hold a Candle To You,” I absolutely love singing, and I’ve got some tearjerkers on the horizon that I wrote in 2018 too. Johnny: Your interpretation of music, whether it be your own or a cover, has always leaned toward a raw, stripped-down, honest ‘take’ rather than chasing a trend or what’s “mainstream.” That being said, do you feel like “mainstream” is starting to catch up to the appeal it has to an audience and “outlaw” music will have its day in the sun sometime soon?

Lee: So much of that mainstream stuff is slickly recorded. They just keep cranking them out and are running a toxic formula into the ground. It’s half rap/half pop with a southern drawl, and it doesn’t reflect the soul of what built the genre. Red Dirt is getting watered down as well though, and I’m afraid the term “outlaw” will too one day. What I’ve learned, and still learning, is to just sing with passion and from the heart. I just don’t believe all the tailgate and dirt road songs you hear today. Growing up, listening to George Jones sing “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” I really thought George was singing a true story about someone dying and finally stopping loving that certain someone. Guys like him and Waylon and Willie and Merle had that connection. It’s like there’s a Merle Haggard album in a glass case with a sign that says, “Break glass in case of heartache.” That’s what music needs to get back to. When you hear a song, you need to feel that the person singing it is either living it or has lived it. Johnny: You and The Brutally Handsome do some fantastic takes on some old classics, rock, and country. I know my personal favorite is your version of “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins, but what cover do you most enjoy playing? Lee: I’ve come up with most of the songs in the setlist. We’re all on the same page as far as new covers we add. I’m a huge Waylon fan so “Lonesome, On’ry, & Mean” is a favorite. I also love Whitey Morgan, one of the newer guys from today. He does a song called “Sinner,” which just kills every night on stage. Can you cover a cover? Yeah, you can! Whitey covered ZZ Top’s “Just Got Paid” on his newest

album, and we do the Whitey version! My mind has to be just right to nail them each night! Also, I’m a big fan of album cuts. Deep cuts, if you will. They were either never singles, or they were singles that didn’t make it to #1 or #2. We do a Johnny Lee song called “Highways Run On Forever” that I truly love doing every night. We spin around during that song and have a lot of fun each night with it. Johnny: You released an album shortly after the last interview and your website currently says that you guys are working on a new one. How was that process the first time and what did you take from that experience going into this new project? Lee: The first album was crazy slow making. We did it ourselves and would go weeks without touching it. It was killing me because I wanted to get it finished, but couldn’t really do anything about how slow it was going. Life would come up, and we’d go take care of that. Finally, we booked a show at Memphis in Longview a couple months out, and said, “Ok, this is the CD release party date. Let’s finish it because now the countdown is happening!” And we finished it. I love that album. There’s always a couple of things I’d like to do differently, but the

body of work itself I’m very proud of. We aren’t doing this next album ourselves. I want to give the fans new material, and that just needs to happen way more often than once every 18 months or so. Normally, you wouldn’t play your new stuff live before you have it ready to sell, but as I said, fans liked “The Hard Stuff,” and now they want something new! Johnny: You’ve had some pretty cool opportunities this past year to take the stage with some interesting people. Anything stand out above the rest from 2018? Lee: I’ve been so fortunate to make some good friends and relationships with different artists over the years. It’s still amazing to think about opening for the rock band Night Ranger! That was a crazy night! I raised an eyebrow to a honky-tonk band opening for a rock & roll band, hair metal band, but the crowd loved it! We had a blast this year, also, opening for Jason Boland, John Anderson, Mickey Gilley, Johnny Lee, Dallas Moore, and Jackson Taylor among others! I still have some of the most fun playing with my friends around East Texas. There’s an incredible music scene with some amazingly talented artists such as Gary Patrick, Heather Nikole Harper, White Trash Wannabees, Allen Wayne Nichols, TEAZUR, Meredith Crawford, and Chaos & Creation. Of course, I still want to jam with you and them Dagnabbit boys some day. Johnny: What is on the horizon for Lee Mathis and the Brutally Handsome for 2019? Lee: We’re going to branch out more [touring] in 2019. I love the places in East Texas we play, but I want to tour more in 2019, so we’re going to do some touring, both full band and acoustic. We’ll have the new album finished up in the next few months. Man, that’s going to be a good album and we are excited about it. We’ve already got some opening slots lined up with the Bellamy Brothers and Tennessee Jet. Personally, I want to talk to more of these venues around here about doing multi-band shows: two bands and maybe one acoustic opener or something like that. Maybe the acoustic act is someone that’s up and coming or just getting their name out there. It wasn’t so long ago that some folks made me that acoustic opener and I’m forever in their debt. Keep up with Lee Mathis and The Brutally Handsome at facebook.com/LeeMathisSolo or leemathis.com.

Andy Gullahorn at Old Firehouse in Edom

What is a “listening room?” It is a place where, aside from the artistry taking place on the stage, you can hear a pin drop. It is Old Firehouse! More information can be found at theoldfirehouse.net, along with links to samples of the music.

January 19th: Andy Gullahorn

Some people were born to be on stage. Some people were made to have their name in lights. Some people were born incredibly attractive. Some people read. Andy is not any of those people. Andy was born and raised in the rich musical climate of Austin, Texas, and after graduation from college in Nashville, he spent a number of years as a staff writer for publishing companies while playing guitar on the road for singer/ songwriter Jill Phillips (who he happened to be married to). In 2004, after realizing that his second child was on the way and that his wife would need to come off of the road, Andy released “Room to Breathe” and began performing his own shows again for the first time in 5 years. He has since released three more records: “Reinventing The Wheel” (2007), “The Law of Gravity” (2009), “Christmas” (2010), and his new CD “Everything As It Should Be” in November. Andy was a Kerrville New Folk Winner in 2010 and was a runner-up at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Also scheduled this season are: • February 2nd: Beyond the Pale • February 23rd: Tom Kimmel • March 23rd: Jacob Johnson • April 6th: Edie Carey More information can be found online at theoldfirehouse.net. 14 • EGuideMagazine.com

The New Year Brings Big Music to East Texas

2019 is looking like a record year for awesome concerts in East Texas. These are some we think that you need to know about and need to get tickets for soon before they sell out.

Beach Boys at The Oil Palace March 26th, 7:30pm

The Beach Boys are a legend in themselves of music in the United States. “Fifty years ago, we started something very big,” says Brian Wilson. “So now we’re celebrating together in a very big way. It’s pretty miraculous that we can start out as a bunch of guys who didn’t know anything about fame or money, or anything like that,” says Mike Love. “All we knew was we liked to sing and make harmonies together. So to have it become part of American musical culture is pretty amazing.” The amazing yet true saga of The Beach Boys is well chronicled, and by any standard it’s one of the greatest and most musical stories ever told. Now, this singular West Coast story continues with a global celebration that is befitting of the remarkable and enduring legacy of these Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. To mark their 50th Anniversary, the founding members of The Beach Boys were reunited for a major international tour and a brand new studio album was released that represented a whole new harmonic convergence from a group that has brought joy and harmony to this whole world. For millions of Beach Boys fans spanning multiple generations, the 50th Anniversary Tour and new album was called “That’s Why God Made The Radio” which came out in 2012 from Capitol/ EMI, represented a dream come true and is an almost religious experience. Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks completed their recording sessions at Los Angeles’ famed Ocean Way Studios and it is the band’s 29th studio album, the first in decades to feature all of the band’s surviving original members. The Beach Boys’ collaborative approach to writing and recording their new music is evidenced throughout this album with all of the surviving original band members participating to create its glorious harmonies, lyrics, and arrangements. Through it all, the good times and the bad, The Beach Boys have always been at heart, a musical family. And to mark a half-century of musical excellence, the surviving members of The Beach Boys family are reuniting as only family can to reflect and to celebrate. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and recipients of The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy® Award, The Beach Boys are a beloved American institution that remains iconic around the world. A mainstay on the radio, the band achieved their most recent hit single with “The Lion and The Lamb.” This follows five consecutive No. 1 singles including “Love Come To Life,” “Redeemed,” “The Only Name (Yours Will Be),” “Overwhelmed,” and “My Story.” “Redeemed” became an anthem of unprecedented impact when it spent 11 weeks at No. 1, was dubbed “Song of the Year” at the first annual K-LOVE Fan Awards, earned Dove Award and Billboard Music Award nominations, and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Since forming in 2002, Big Daddy Weave members Mike Weaver (lead vocals, guitar), Jay Weaver (bass, vocals), Jeremy Redmon (guitar, vocals), Joe Shirk (saxophone, keys, vocals) and Brian Beihl (drums) have released seven fulllength projects, amassed more than one million units in album sales and have received numerous honors, including ASCAP and BMI Awards and the prestigious Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award, among others. Food Authentic Churrasco in Tyler By Holli Fourniquet

It seems like there is a new restaurant opening every week in Tyler. While each location offers its own unique flair, most of the new restaurants are similar to other restaurants here in town. Not so with Texas de Brazil - there is nothing else like it in Tyler! This continuous dining restaurant embraces the time-honored tradition of churrasco-style grilling and combines this with generous southern hospitality, superior service, and an inviting atmosphere. This restaurant is just as much about the experience as it is about delicious food. Here’s how it works: There are two sections, the Salad section and the Meats. The menu offers 50-60 items on the seasonal salad area that includes appetizers, gourmet vegetables, charcuterie, imported cheeses, soups, salads, and more. Each person at the table is given a card; one side is green and the other red. After you have gotten your salad, turn your card to green and be greeted by a troop of carvers who will generously serve you various cuts of seasoned beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and Brazilian sausage accompanied with traditional side items and house-baked Brazilian cheese bread. My favorite cut of meat was the flank steak. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. And, as I said before, this is a “continuous dining” restaurant. Dine endlessly on the best cuts

Inside the Artist’s Studio:

Slowhand – Stars, Strays and Ashtrays

Joanna Kathryn Gifford By Derrick White

“There are songs you can never remember, songs that you cannot forget.” – Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton’s “Stars, Strays, and Ashtrays” is a hidden gem of a song on Slowhand the 35th Anniversary Super Deluxe album (not the original 1977 Slowhand release). It is easily overlooked especially because it shares a track list with hits like Cocaine, Lay Down Sally, and Wonderful Tonight, but it doesn’t disappoint. The Meadows Gallery located inside the Cowan Center at the University of Texas at Tyler is also something of a hidden jewel of an art space often unobserved because it is not in a larger metropolitan area like Houston, Dallas, or Austin but the space hosts some of the keenest exhibitions showcasing many of the strongest contemporary artists working in the entire state of Texas. The experience of stopping by the Meadows Gallery to check out the latest art exhibition never lets me down. The recent December MFA exhibition “Revealing the Metaphysical: Edges/Actions/ Layers” by local artist Joanna Kathryn Gifford was an amazing occurrence of organic forms, powerful installation, compulsive dedication, and astonishing plays of light and shadow. Joanna explains, “It is difficult for me to designate a style for my work as they are driven by the actions and marks of my body, however in my exhibition, the work presents as sculptural installations.” Most pieces show evidence of the actions of the artist’s hands and there is a powerful authority in this type of act as explained in a blog post from the Mark’s Daily Apple’s website discussing creating things with one’s hands. He explains, “Anyone who’s spent significant time creating with their hands – whether it is painting, carpentry, knitting, carving, or building – can appreciate the distinctive satisfaction it evokes. Spending an hour at one’s own workspace, however plain or disheveled, feels like time in a secluded oasis. It’s in the craft you find focus. The brush or needles, chisel or knife, spade or hammer become an unconscious extension of self. The mind devises, but the hand itself thinks designs. We live in a society enamored by passive entertainment and increasingly invested in the virtual experience. Fewer of us have jobs showing us the tangible results of our efforts. The urge to create is deeply human. Something about it releases stress and brings us back to center.” Akin to this sentiment Joanna Gifford states, “I deal in mixed media, but have an emphasis in ceramics. My material choices are driven by my desire to envelop my biological experience as a human in my work, and so clay, dirt, and other earthen materials are deeply attractive to me.” Joanna received an Associate in Arts degree from TJC in 2006, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2010 and both a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts from UT Tyler last fall. She has interned at the Tyler Museum of Art and taught beginning ceramics as a teaching assistant. Joanna always leaned towards creative pursuits. When she was younger, she played instruments, danced, acted (and still does), and wrote. Gifford studied music but was distracted away from academia and dropped out of college for about a year. She remembers, “When I decided to go back, I wanted to do something creative I had never tried before, so I enrolled as an art major at TJC. I had never taken an art class. I was extremely insecure and frustrated about being a visual artist but I absolutely loved my classes and professors at TJC, they really helped pave my way as an artist.” Art has given her a way to communicate those elements beyond verbal language. Joanna believes art is language, and artists are philosophers whose thoughts are revealed through various media. “I have found my research has revealed to me the ether layer I believe to be present yet I could not experience or express through any other form of

communication,” she expands. Adding, “I also feel art has given me another way to experience my life and surroundings. Physical interactions such as yoga, trail running, rock climbing, and other things allow me to experience my physical body’s connection to the mind, while art allows me to experience my mind’s connection to the physical body.” Joanna addresses the frustration of creating artistic infrastructure. Explaining, “Many believe in the stereotypical artist as free spirits and not extremely consistent or reliable, yet in order to be a developed and successful artist, it is essential we build a foundation for our creative practice. As I was installing my exhibition, I realized that 80% of being an artist is infrastructure, time management, cleaning up, organizing, yet if I do all of it then the 20% of the time I get to really bring my work to life is so much more sustained and such a richer experience. For me, the process ends up looking like a pyramid with infrastructure taking up the main base, but it’s so worth it.” I concur with the artist. A lot of being a successful artist is the ditch digging preparation. Gifford finds inspiration from many artists including, Janine Antoni (contemporary artist creating work in performance, sculpture, and photography) and Richard Long (English sculptor and land artist). “Both of these artists are the best examples of sustainable, present, essential, intelligent, curious, honest, and innovation without being derivative or transforming into entertainers. I also love their connections to the earth and their experiences as humans on this earth,” exclaims Joanna. The artist adds, “When the edge of one idea meets the edge of another, there is an entirely new layer to the universe and, in turn, creates infinite possibilities, and the only way to unfold these new possibilities is to observe and create action. This idea is continually manifest in the physical and metaphysical. If we can be more sensitive and contemplative of our edges/actions/ layers, like vast antennae, we can possibly interpret and intuit the work with so much more understanding.” More understanding, I like the idea. “Just like stars, strays, and ashtrays, they’ll never let you down.” – Clapton.

At Tyler Museum of Art:

Letitia Huckaby’s “Lagniappe” Continues on Exhibit

The Tyler Museum of Art (TMA) is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave. on the Tyler Junior College main campus. Regular TMA hours are 10am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday, and 1-5pm Sunday. The Museum is closed Mondays and most major holidays. For more info call the museum at (903)595-1001, tylermuseum.org, or email info@tylermuseum.org. “Lagniappe: Works by Letitia Huckaby,” is currently open to the public until March 17th in the TMA’s North Gallery. Admission is free. Family faith and tradition are front and center in the Tyler Museum of Art’s major exhibition of the holiday season, Lagniappe: Works by Letitia Huckaby. Organized by the TMA and curated by Caleb Bell, Lagniappe highlights the recent work of an artist who fuses photography, quilting, silk screening, and a vast expanse of media with a distinctly regional sensibility but worldwide appeal, primarily exploring her own family history and African-American heritage. Lagniappe is a term prevalent in the Louisiana French Creole culture, loosely defined as “a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase,” or “something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure.” Bell said he and the artist decided on this regional term as the exhibition’s main title because it encapsulates the sense of community and kinship that is a prevalent theme in Huckaby’s work. “The basic premise behind my work is faith, family, and legacy,” she said. “I am always looking at how the past relates to the present, and whether or not things have changed or remain the same. There is always a history built into the pieces,

whether through the process or actual materials. I often use heirloom fabrics, and I think that is why so many people can relate to my work.” As a natural extension of someone who began her career as a photojournalist, Huckaby said she remains “a photographer at heart,” starting each new work with an image as the foundation and evolving from there into printing on cotton fabric, hand-stitched together into traditional African-American quilting patterns and finished into quilts, dresses, sacks, or framed quilt tops. “I love pushing the boundaries of photography by using a traditional practice in an untraditional way and hopefully creating a new visual language,” she said. Huckaby received her master’s degree at the University of North Texas in 2010, and since has exhibited at venues including Dallas Contemporary, Galveston Arts Center, Renaissance Fine Art in Harlem, and the Texas Biennial at the Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio. Her work is featured in numerous public and private collections including the Library of Congress, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, and Philadelphia’s Brandywine Workshop. She most recently was featured at the TMA alongside her husband, Sedrick Huckaby, in the 2014 exhibition “Flow into the Mystic: Marriage and the Contemporary Artist.” Special events in connection with the exhibition include free First Friday tours January 4th, February 1st, and March 1st. The first Friday of each month, 11am-12:30pm, the TMA offers a full day of free admission plus guided tours of its spotlight exhibitions. From contemporary Texas art to Hudson River School to Andy Warhol, each tour is unique. Family Days will be from 2-4pm Saturday, January 12th, February 9th, and March 9th. Free admission, interactive art projects, light snacks, and a festive atmosphere for all ages are on the menu the second Saturday of each month with the Tyler Museum of Art’s Family Day. February 8th-17th (Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2:30pm): “On Golden Pond” will be on the stage at Tyler Civic Theatre. This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. Ethel, ten years younger, and the perfect foil for Norman delights in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the “grandchild” the elderly couple has longed for, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness - and slang - in return. In the end, as the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final, deeply moving moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. Presented to great critical and popular acclaim, first off then on Broadway, this touching, funny and warmly perceptive study of a spirited and lovable elderly couple facing their twilight years introduced a significant playwright to theatre. Tyler Civic Theatre is located at 400 Rose Park Dr., Tyler, next to the Tyler Rose Garden Center. For more info call (903)592-0561 or go to tylercivictheatre.com. First Presbyterian Church is located at 230 W. Rusk St. in Tyler. For more info call (903)597-6317 or go to fpctyler.com/finearts.
