The Lion’s Reading Den at the Lower School Library By Morah Roberta The Lower School Library is a quiet, peaceful environment where students can listen to a story, relax and read a book, or create a puppet show. Students are encouraged to borrow books for pleasure reading and/or for taking at A/R Test. We are in the process of labeling books according to genre; including, but not limited to books of humor, graphic novels, historical fiction, mysteries, biographies, and environmental interest. In addition, the library has a number of books of Jewish interest…holidays, midot, and folktales, to mention just a few in our collection. With this growing number of choices, the library can accommodate all interest and all ages from two years old to 5th graders. The Lower School Library can be an oasis of tranquility during our very busy school day. Please find a moment to visit and explore the world of books at Scheck Hillel Lower School Library!
Favorite Books Survey by Mrs Penchev I emailed all of the 3rd-5th grade students and teachers. The online survey asked about favorite books, here are the results from the 20 people who answered the survey.
The next question asked for book recommendations. Here are the suggestions: What book would you recommend to others and why? Ina Garten Wonder by R.Y. Palacio because it is a great book that teaches people to not judge anyone by their looks. The book makes you feel many emotions and you want to keep reading each chapter because you want to know what is happening next. There is also a movie you can watch. The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. Must read for everyone! Born A Crime By: Trevor Noah Any book related to WW2 . Number the Stars. It is a great way for students to learn a little about what happened during the war and how the Jews had to live in order to survive. America's First Daughter I love the book, The Crossing. It is a story about a young boy who moves from Mexico to find a better life in the United States. It is important to read this book because it helps us understand the realities of other countries and to appreciate the life we have in the USA. Anything written by Nora Roberts, my favorite author. I would recommend the book The Princess Bride because it is an amazing and funny adventure story with lots of action. The Secret Cookie Club I would recommend what were the witch Salem trials Magic Tree house because I love time travel and learning about different things in history who was, who is, where is, where was, what was, what is I read only in Hebrew. Island of the Blue Dolphins Who Was Maurice Sendak? by Janet B. Pascal. I enjoyed reading and learning what motivated Mr. Sendak to write/illustrate Where The Wild Things Are, a picture book that was one of the first to deal with feelings like anger and fear.
Hillel Throws A Hanukkah Carnival!!! by Jonah Delgado
The Hillel Hanukkah carnival was as amazing, as it is every year. They had games, food, and a DJ. Everyone ate pizza and had lots of fun. Some of the rides included a dunk tank with a teacher inside, a big slide, and a bounce house. After eating and having so much fun they, lit the Chanukiah and said the bracha. I have to say this was one fun fair!!!! Happy Hanukkah to everyone.
