Scheck Hillel Community School Juda and Maria Diener Lower School Student created newspaper
This first edition of the Cub Call is dedicated to Yuval Miara. We know he would have been a big supporter of this effort. His impact on our school and our lives will forever be felt.
A few months ago Jake Kravetz read a book that had a student newspaper in the book. He asked if we could start a lower school newspaper and Cub Call was born! Next year we hope to produce a paper each month.
Legos By Dylan Cohen - 1st grade
For the last few months, our class and other grades have used Legos in I LAB and at home. Kindergarten students built community helpers. First grade students got to work with Legos and build US Symbols. Second grade students got a bag of Legos sent home and were told to build about Space, Math, and Pesach. Then they needed to write about what they built and why. I feel that working with Legos helped all of the students use their imagination and also work with each other. Building with Legos was very fun to do!

This summer some of our Hillel students will be going to two conferences called ISTE and ST4T. At ISTE there will be about 15,000 people and at ST4T there will be about 400 people. The ISTE conference is located in San Antonio, Texas and the ST4T conference is located in Clearwater, Florida. Three students will be presenting at ISTE. Robotics in the Lower School by Adam Scheck By Adam Scheck
Some of the robots that we have are Dot, Dash, and Sphero. These robots can be coded and they are very fun. We sometimes use them in the S.T.E.A.M Club on Tuesday Mornings. Sphero is a company that creates the Ollie, Sphero, and the BB-8 play droid. Dot and Dash are created by Wonder Workshop. We also had a Lego Robotics celebration in April. Hebrew Academy, Lehrman, and Scheck Hillel were included in this exhibition. We also made a presentation about something including Space. My team did how the Earth, Moon, and Sun interact with each other. There are seven missions you had to do. There was also a Robotics group that came from Yerucham, Israel to help us. My team got three of the seven missions mastered. I really liked the robotics expedition because it showed me that with code, mistakes happen all the time.
5th grade Trip Boys Point of View by Shalom Lev
By Shalom Lev Meisels
We started the trip off by going to Matheson Hammock park. There we did a few activities of our choice including storytelling, painting, hiking, scavenger hunt, and more. After we arrived at Camp Owaissa Bauer we retreated to our bunks and after we were ready we went practice snorkeling, and played some fun games with Silvio. Then we had dinner and went to the campfire for songs and s'mores. Yummy! Day Two We started the day off with breakfast. We had French toast and eggs, oatmeal and cereal. It was a very good breakfast. Then the boys went to Theater of the Seas. There we saw three performances of dolphins, birds, and sea lions. Jojo got kissed by a sea lion. The boys had lunch and then went snorkeling. We went on two boats out to a shallow reef in Carysfort Reef near Key Largo and every boy got of the boat. It was one of the best experiences of my life. It was great because I got to see all these types of beautiful colored fish. There were little waves and a nice blue sky. When we were finished with the snorkeling trip we came back to the camp. We learned a song for graduation and then had dinner. we had salad, hamburgers, hotdogs, and BBQ chicken. Mrs Biton made delicious brownies for Parve dessert. We finished out the day with Silvio and game night. Overall this day was amazing! Day three We started off the day packing up and going to breakfast. We had French toast, eggs, hash browns, cereal, and toast. We did community making cards for Israeli soldiers. Then we got a surprise, we got to design our own hats to remind us of camp. We left camp and went to ShemTov for lunch. We ate pizza, French fries, and drank water. Then we went bowling at Holiday Lanes. Today was an amazing day.
The Girls Side By Daniela Chocron
Day one We had a lot of fun in the park. I did the hiking and we saw different types of water. Then we got to the cabins and we unpacked. Then we learned how to snorkel and then made up a dance with Silvio. We got ready and had a very good dinner. Then we had a really fun time making s'mores and having a bonfire. Day Two We woke up very early and went to have breakfast. After that we went to snorkel with all the fish and we told stories after on the boat. Then we went to Theater of the Seas and saw a very cool dolphin and parrot show. I felt bad for the turtles because they were all hurt. But here they are safe at Theater of the Seas. Shylee, Vanessa, and Lipaz got to be a part of the dolphin show! After that we had a long but fun bus ride back to Owaissa Bauer. We had dinner, it was barbecue with hamburgers and hot dogs, and chips and salsa. Last we played games and had great night. Day 3 Today we did some mitzvah projects and decorated hats! Later, we went to eat at Shem Tov's. I liked the pizza it was very tasty. We had some matzah for Pesach Sheni. Right now we bowling. It looks like everyone is having fun! Overall this was a very fun trip I would do again!!
AR Challenges by Mark Weisleder - 1st grade
This year our AR challenges have been fun. We had a Space challenge. We had to read words to get to Neptune to go to the party. The party was a fun, exciting time making alien goo. Another challenge was the popcorn challenge where you had to read books and pass at 80% or better. During winter we had Chill Out and Read a Good Book. We colored snowflakes. Now we are doing bookopoly. You have to read 2 nonficiton and 2 fiction books and then do a book selfie. I like to do the challenges.
