EdIBLES THE BEST TASTES OF THE CITY

The winner of bravo TV’s culinary competition series, “Best New Restaurant,” Dolce Italian has just opened its newest outpost in Buckhead Atlanta. It’s the latest spot from LDV Hospitality to grace the luxury retail complex (the restaurant group that also brought Atlanta Corso Coffee and the forthcoming American Cut), and diners can expect the same dolce vita experience they bring to each locale. At Dolce, that means a dining room reminiscent of 1960s Rome and a menu of handmade pastas, Neapolitan style pizzas and seafood.

the CoCKEnTRICE Executive Chef and Owner Kevin Ouzts succeeds in wowing diners with his deceptively complex items. Simple prosciutto? Not for The Cockentrice. This young restaurant is a study in returning to our roots and honoring the American food tradition, even if it hasn’t been around that long. With a sort of pick-and-choose menu for an endless combination of charcuterie, cheeses, jams and fruits, as well as a lengthy list of prepared dishes, each item brings more to the table than you could have ever expected. And if you like something on the menu, you don’t have to leave wanting more. Stop by The Spotted Trotter just a few steps away — the second location of the boutique charcuterie that birthed The Cockentrice — and chances are you can grab it to go. -Caitlyn Daniels

EdIBLES marcel, Ford Fry’s latest venture with Executive Chef Brian Horn, takes steak and seafood to a whole new level. Literally. It has the highest priced meat per ounce available in Atlanta, but also the choicest cuts of meats with no freezing or shortcuts. Dressed in the garb of Old World Europe and intent on creating both the perfect atmosphere and meal, the restaurant pays homage to France’s greatest boxer, Marcel Cerdan. buckhead Atlanta’s restaurants may be hopping once the sun goes down, but you’d be remiss not to make plans at some of these establishments — like The Southern Gentleman — for lunch. In the light of day you can really appreciate the Southern touches in design, like the seersucker window treatments and tufted camel leather booths. The food, of course, is the only thing that rivals the interiors. We recommend the Crispy Deviled Eggs — yes, they’re fried, and oh so good — and the Soft Poached Hen Egg that comes complete

if you want to go where the chefs go, head to Octopus Bar, a late-night spot that serves up Asian and European-inspired fare long after most other kitchens have closed. Open nightly, 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Octopus Bar is the type of place where you can get oysters on the half shell and spicy Korean pork with a Mexican coke float — all while lounging in a darkly-lit patio surrounded by graffitied wooden walls. Plus, if it’s good enough for Anthony Bourdain, it’s certainly good enough for us. The TV personality stopped

leave it to the guys behind octopus bar — chefs Angus Brown and Nhan Le — to join forces again and create a James Beard-nominated restaurant. Lusca, referring to the gigantic octopus of Caribbean lore, takes heed from its late-night counterpart in a lean toward seafood, but brings more diverse offerings including an in-house charcuterie program and a marketdriven menu. The decor is decidedly different, however — a clean, minimal design suits its Buckhead neighborhood — but an luScA Buckhead 1829 Peachtree Rd. NE luscaatl.com

“Staples, meaning the things that you love and crave, and house, the place you go to get them,” says Jennifer (Jen) Hidinger. She’s explaining the name of the restaurant she and her husband, Ryan Hidinger, created — Staplehouse — which opened in September. It’s a five-plus-year-old dream finally coming to fruition after the loss of Ryan to cancer, and the

It’s the first restaurant in Atlanta to use the ticketing system, Tock. Diners pre-purchase tickets for the seats in the dining room online, like they would for a concert or sports game. the LooKS Men’s fall fashion may revolve mostly around suits and extra layers, but it can still be far from boring. Even the most subtle touches can make a big impact, as evidenced by the hint of a high-necked sweater, for example. “Superheroes.” That’s the term Argentinian Daniel Porcelli uses to call the human beings behind his shoes. It takes over 20 artisans to craft the bespoke-inspired shoes designed by Cobbler Union, the brand Porcelli founded with partners Santiago Pereiro and Stephen Beehler in 2014.

With classic shoes, boots and drivers, Cobbler Union’s collection is handcrafted entirely in Spain, preserving the art of shoemaking for the next generation. As the name sake suggests, Cobbler Union defines luxury not by price point, but by the skills of their shoemakers. “For us, it’s all about the shoemaker and you, that’s the relationship we celebrate,” Beehler explains. Cobbler Union cuts third party retailers out of the business model, instead going direct-to-consumer online and via their flagship store in Inman Park. By eliminating the two-and-a-half to three times middleman mark up, “Cobbler Union is able to offer men more luxury, more often, for less,” Porcelli affirms.

“i promote love as an art form,” declares Jeremy Brown, an Atlanta-based artist who has been known to take that statement quite literally in years past. As the founder of Love is Art, he has capitalized on the notion that couples can create their very own abstract art pieces by engaging

in the physical aspects of lovemaking. But these days his focus has undergone a shift of sorts. While Love is Art pieces showcase the physical act of love, Brown’s new collection counts on depictions of its emotional and intangible aspects. The pieces themselves are multidimensional, reflecting both Brown’s perception of love as well as the chaos involved in relationships. But he also enjoys creating custom pieces with specific people in mind. “How do you define love?” he’ll ask of customers of commissioned pieces, and create a one-ofa-kind piece of artwork by finding inspiration in their joy and excitement. - Hannah Gray

LoBLoLLY

it was only a matter of time before new retail sectors began to employ the convenience of e-commerce and the connections of direct-to-consumer models. Turns out the mattress industry is the

next to join this business bandwagon. Atlanta-based Loblolly, the latest mattress startup to join the scene, is proving this market can be modernized. And they’re doing it with one mattress, available in six sizes, in an easy-to-tote box, shipped right to your door. Named after a type of Southeastern pine tree, one of which was once guarded from being cut down by Eisenhower during a game of golf, Loblolly is a metaphorical defender of dreams. They are founded on the idea that a good night’s sleep is a huge part of making your dreams come to life (literally and metaphorically), and that their mattress is a great way to help you get there. Thanks to Loblolly, a seemingly personal product based on preferential factors can be easily and efficiently purchased online. So try it out for 100 risk-free nights. And dream on. - Jaime Lin Weinstein

Known for pushing the envelope of perception to create contemporary pieces, Morgan specializes in custom works of furniture for his clients. Royal Tour bicycles began with the image of a classy Parisian woman. While traveling with his wife through Paris, Paul Atkins became fixed on the feeling created by a passing moment — a

glimpse of a well-dressed woman on a classic bike, with a baguette in the back. She was perfectly European. And European is exactly what he was looking for. This chic and laid-back approach to life is what Atkins strives to mimic in his bike styles. Handcrafted in his Atlanta studio, each bike is built from parts made by talented artisans, with the frame hand-brazed in shop assuring the highest of quality. These works of art are built for slow-cruising style — perfect, perhaps, for an evening ride on the BeltLine. - Caitlyn Daniels

edible beauty tip dRAgonFRuIT gReAT FoR: ANTi-AgiNg An ample source of antioxidants, the vitaminpacked dragon fruit aids in fighting free radicals, which accelerate the aging process. The superfruit’s speckled interior, rich in vitamin C and a load of Bs, also helps skin appear tighter and more resilient. A mask can be made from blending the fruit into a paste and mixing it with yogurt. Twenty minutes later, skin will look fresh.
