s a mini truck enthusiast, I conceptualized Chux back in 1990. At the time there were very few automotive accessory stores. I put together a business plan using books from the library, consulted with some guys I knew from a local wholesale automotive supplier, and started looking for funding. After about nine months, I was granted an SBA-backed loan. Next came the building. After a long search I ended up at a small shop that

sat way back off the road in Independence, Missouri on the east side of Kansas City. Today, we have grown to multiple locations with over three dozen employees, including a commercial division selling B2B (business to business) - from car dealers, to contractors, to municipalities, and more. Ray Lamar opened the first LaMar’s Donuts in a converted gas station on Linwood Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1960. Locals immediately flocked to the homemade donuts and LaMar’s Donuts became a Kansas City institution. Lines started forming before 6 a.m., and by closing time more than 11,000 donuts are sold at this single location. The store was known for their fresh, delicious donuts and the staff never refused a special request.

he roots of LaMar’s Donuts date back to 1933 when Ray Lamar, 17, began making donuts at the Jack Frost Donuts Company.

During those days, wholesale donuts were made in the morning and the store opened for retail business at

11am and stayed open until midnight.

tarted by Russ Fiorella in Kansas City back in 1957, Jack Stack began as a traditional storefront barbecue with a modest selection of five to six items. Jack Fiorella, the eldest son, worked with his father until 1974, when he decided to branch off and start Fiorella’s Jack Stack of Martin City.

To stand out in the competitive Kansas City barbecue scene of the mid 1970’s, Jack and his wife, Delores, began cooking gourmet meats over hickory wood and created the most extensive barbecue menu in the country.

Where did the name come from?

The co-founder’s daughter was nicknamed “Scooter” and when naming the company, “Scooter’s” became the favorite. It fit well with their mission to keep customers happy by helping them “scoot in and scoot out” quickly.

In 1998, Linda Eckles bought happy face stickers and placed them on every drink she sold. It was her way to say, “Have an amazing day!”

unflower Rental has been an equipment rental icon in Topeka for over 60 years.

Originally opened in 1951, Sunflower Rental was located in North Topeka at 926 W Topeka Blvd.

A short time later, Sunflower was presented with an opportunity to relocate to a prime commercial area After developing some good ties with another merchant in the area, Sunflower was able to acquire a large lot right next to the Shunganunga creek on 20th and Topeka blvd. Sunflower promptly put up a new building and by 1960, was firmly entrenched in the current location at 2010 SW Topeka Blvd. Sunflower Rentals’ founding father was Gene Wanamaker.

In 1957 he hired Rick Wendland who shortly thereafter married Kay, Gene’s only daughter. Through hard work and sound business decisions, he built a solid business with a firm foundation in the construction community. Since his passing in 2005,

Rick’s strong work ethic, dedication and customer skills are still talked about today.

Sunflower Rental purchased Blue Springs Rental in 1981. Blue springs Rental had already been in business for several years at that time and seemed the natural choice to start building Sunflower Rental’s expansion on. he Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport is located in the heart of one of the fastest growing regions of the country, just southeast of Kansas City in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
