Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms Bar: Black mirrored surfaces, repeated light
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation. She has been quoted saying “Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos. Polka dots are a way to infinity.” this perhaps is inspiration for her series of Infinity room installations. From this series I took inspiration for the bar in KM, I feel it parallels the background of many of Gustav Klimt’s greatest works. Reflecting the small pendant lights throughout the space is a way to abstract the gilded background in works like The Kiss, The Woman in Gold, and Fulfillment creating a completely immersive atmosphere for the customer. My goal is for this space to inspire and enchant the viewer, they should feel free to snap photos (with no flash), lounge before dinner, try a specialty cocktail, or just leisurely walk through on their way to dinner.
BeefBar Paris Dining: brass, arched ceiling, exposed light
BeefBar Paris is a restoration project by Humbert and Poyet Architecture which retains the building’s original architecture. The concept embraces two contrasting design sensibilities with Art Nouveau elements with jewel tones and colorful carpets paired with Art Deco elements like marble detailing, aged and faceted mirrors, lacquered walnut and brass fittings. In KM I also wanted to combine both Art Nouveau and Art Deco to echo undertones of the Vienna Secession. I did this by including brass, vaulted ceilings, exposed light and jewel tones.

COLOR SELECTION The emphasis on flat visual planes, strong colors, patterned surfaces, and linear outlines appealed to the secessionists and helped form a bridge between fine and graphic arts.

CUSTOM ART
Inspired by Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, 1907 by Gustav Klimt Created on Adobe Illustrator
The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer or the Woman In Gold is showcased to represent the golden years of Vienna, a time in which art, music, science, and psychology were merging together. This time period birthed a new view of humanity, a new view of the “psychological man” was developed across many fields. The contrast between the reflected mirrors that line the walls, ceiling and floor of the lounge with the illuminated portrait of the Woman in Gold is meant to inspire it’s audience.
BAR
DINING
The dining area connects to the vienna secession through graphic wall displays featuring works of Egon Schiele, rounded flat forms of the arched doorway and walls, and contrast between light and dark hues. The walls are lined with booth seating for comfort and optimal views of the restaurant.

CUSTOM LIGHT
Color Temperature: 5,500 K The large globe pendant lights experiment with proportion and scale while complimenting the high ceilings. The grid pattern has been used on the floor, wall, and the lights, this repetition of pattern adds a layer of consistency.
CEILING MOSAIC
An imitation mosaic of Expectation by Gustav Klimt decorates the ceiling. It features the tree of life, a symbolic image that connects life and death and heaven and earth. Tree of Life represents the continuity of life as well as its complexities. It unites all elements of life. Klimt further emphasizes this connectedness by his use of a flattened style and design. This is also true of the human figure n front of the tree. The single woman in a pose reminiscent of ancient Egyptian art. She wears an elaborately patterned dress that expands as it gets closer to the ground.
