It brings me so much joy to welcome you to The Executive Leadership Council’s 2023 Recognition Gala. Tonight, we celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of executives, companies, and students who are champions of diversity, inclusion, and excellence.

Tonight, we honor extraordinary trailblazers Mellody Hobson with the Achievement Award, Synchrony with the Corporate Award, and ELC Member Arlene Isaacs-Lowe with the Alvaro L. Martins Heritage Award. They join 138 college students receiving scholarships to advance their education and careers.

WELCOME FROM SUNDAR
Co-Sponsor CEO
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 2023 ELC Recognition Gala. As the Co-Sponsor with The Coca-Cola Company, Google is honored to support The Executive Leadership Council in its pursuit of transforming the face of corporate America by building a truly diverse and inclusive executive leadership landscape for current and future Black leaders.
This year, Google is celebrating 25 years of pursuing our own mission: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Building a culture of belonging and inclusion is an important way we deliver on our mission, and ensure that people can see themselves in the products we build.
PICHAI
That’s why we set ambitious racial equity commitments in 2020. We’re making steady progress. Last year, we met our goal of increasing leadership representation of Black, Latinx, and Native American Googlers by 30 percent. Representation for our Black and Latinx Googlers in the U.S. is the highest ever in tech, non-tech roles, and leadership roles.
In addition to representation, we care about supporting our Black employees and tech professionals throughout their careers. Internally, we’ve made changes in how we recruit, train, and promote with more checks for fairness and equity in our processes. Externally, as one example, in partnership with The Executive Leadership Council, we launched Decoded 2.0, a comprehensive three-day bootcamp for Black tech professionals across the country, thus building the authentic connections needed to have lasting, impactful careers.
We also continue to invest in the next generation of diverse tech talent. One way we’re doing this is with the expansion of our Google in Residence (GIR) program that recruits and trains experienced technical Googlers to teach introductory computer science courses on HBCU and HSI campuses. In the last five years, this program has doubled the number of Google software engineering job offers extended at partner schools, and currently serves 1,600 HBCU and HSI students.
There’s much more to do to ensure companies, including ours, have leadership that represents all of the communities we serve. The important work of organizations like the Executive Leadership Council, with the support of everyone in the room tonight, will help make much needed progress, and we’re glad to be a part of it.
SUNDAR PICHAI CEO Google and Alphabet

WELCOME FROM JAMES QUINCEY
Co-Sponsor CEO
The Coca-Cola Company is honored to celebrate tonight’s honorees’ achievements and champion The ELC’s commitment to inclusive corporate leadership and the career advancement of Black executives.
As a purpose-driven company, enabling the conditions for progress strengthens our business and society.
We continue to focus on leadership in our own company, investing in our people and creating opportunities for growth and development. The Coca-Cola Company and our brands are for everyone, so we set the ambition to reflect the communities we serve. In the United States, it is our aspiration by 2030 to have race and ethnicity representation reflect national census data at all employee levels.
To help achieve this, we focus in part on strategies to broaden our pool of qualified potential talent. We’ve expanded partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and leadership development organizations, including the National Black MBA Association, The Executive Leadership Council, and Thurgood Marshall National Black Talent Bank.
The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company, has funded an ELC Scholarship for college students for nearly 30 years, further supporting the next generation of Black leaders.
Additionally, we’re building core leadership capabilities to support Black talent throughout their Coca-Cola journey and helping create affinity and allyship through our Black Employee Network.
While we are making meaningful progress, more work is needed to achieve our aspirations. We thank The ELC for its continued partnership on this critical journey.
JAMES QUINCEY Chairman and CEO The Coca-Cola Company

BRIAN MOYNIHAN
Gold Sponsor CEO
On behalf of my Bank of America teammates around the world, including those with you today, thank you for the opportunity to support this year’s gala.
We share The Executive Leadership Council’s commitment to driving meaningful progress on the important issues of equality and economic opportunity for the Black community, including all we do to be a great place to work for our Black employees and support the needs of our Black clients.
We’re proud that representation of Black teammates in our top three management levels has increased by 100% since 2015. We are also proud of our $2 billion spend with diverse suppliers each year and our partnerships with crucial institutions such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Juneteenth Museum.
And we’re proud of our ongoing partnership—as we work together to help solve some of the greatest challenges affecting the world today.
BRIAN MOYNIHAN Chair and CEO Bank of America

FROM
WELCOME FROM
DARRELL FORD & KEVIN WARREN
UPS EVPs
For nearly 25 years, UPS and The Executive Leadership Council have worked together to develop an inclusive leadership pipeline.
Today, that work is reflected at the very top of our organization, where our C-Suite is one-third women and one-third ethnically diverse—and includes two ELC members! Our board of directors is also the most diverse among Georgia-based Fortune 100 companies, and includes three proud ELC inductees. Additionally, the head of The UPS Foundation was welcomed as a member of the 2023 ELC class.
UPS is on a mission to strengthen representation across our organization, including reaching 40% ethnically diverse U.S. management by 2025. We continue to support HBCUs and our African American Business Resource Group leads outreach to universities and professional organizations.
Our efforts don’t stop with our workforce. We’re also committed to supporting diverse-owned businesses—both as customers and suppliers. In the last two years, we’ve invested more than $2.75 million to help women- and minority-owned small businesses thrive. Since 2019, we’ve tripled our spend with diverse-owned suppliers.
These efforts are best summarized in our rallying cry: You Belong At UPS. And we don’t just mean our employees. We’re proud to stand alongside The ELC in fostering a culture where inclusion and a sense of belonging are the norm for our people, our customers, and the communities we serve.
DARRELL FORD

2023 ELC CORPORATE AWARD WINNER
Synchrony has spent the last decade building an inclusive workplace and culture that can embody its commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Citizenship. Since 2020, Synchrony has doubled its number of Black executives, while creating intentional programming to develop the next generation of leaders. These programs—including its MOSAIC Leadership Institute, Advancing Diverse Talent Fellows Program, and Strategic Pathways Initiative—provide mentorship, coaching, and skill-building opportunities, while amplifying the voices and potential of historically underrepresented talent.
Synchrony has also demonstrated a clear effort to support minority-owned businesses through its investment arm—Synchrony Ventures—which has invested more than $20 million into venture capital funds led by Black, Hispanic, and female investing partners. In 2023, Synchrony committed $100 million to Ariel Alternatives’ Project Black, a program that aims to scale and position minority-owned businesses as leading suppliers to Fortune 500 companies. Within its walls, Synchrony has developed a cross-functional council that helps to promote supplier diversity throughout the company.
This is in addition to Synchrony’s “Education as an Equalizer” initiative, which builds on the company’s efforts to address long-standing economic inequality. Through investment, engagement, and collaboration with academic institutions, nonprofits, government, and businesses, Synchrony is working to provide greater opportunities to underserved individuals while creating paths to a prosperous and fulfilling future. The company has pledged $50 million over five years to this initiative, coupled with mentorship programs and workshops.
Synchrony’s selection as the recipient of The Executive Leadership Council’s 2023 Corporate Award showcases the company’s dedication to progress and continued commitment to moving forward.
