I know what you are thinking- what an amazing cover! This is possibly the best one we’ve done yet! The beautiful bride on our annual wedding issue just happens to be my sister, Leah Greve. When I found out she was getting married in December of 2015, I immediately knew I wanted to do a love story on Leah and her husband, Bradley Dray. These two met at Maria’s Beach in Rincón, Puerto Rico, and for them it was love at first sight. After a few months together they knew they could never be apart and became engaged to be married. Leah and Bradley had a beautiful fairytale Rincón wedding at Villa Playa Maria on the 30th of December that was attended by close friends and family. To continue reading their story turn to page 12.

La hermosa novia en nuestra edición anual de bodas resulta ser mi hermana Leah Greve. Cuando me entere de que ella se iba a casar en diciembre del 2015, supe inmediatamente que quería hacer una historia de amor sobre Leah y su esposo Bradley Dray. Los dos se conocieron en la Playa Marías de Rincón, Puerto Rico. Para ellos fue amor a primera vista. Luego de varios meses juntos ellos supieron que jamás podrían separarse y se comprometieron para casarse. Leah y Bradley tuvieron una hermosa boda en Rincón al estilo de los cuentos de hadas en la Villa Playa Marías el 30 de diciembre, a la cual asistieron amigos cercanos y familiares. Love at first sight- many dream of it, but few actually experience it. Leah Greve, a local from Rincón, and Bradley Dray, a native of North Carolina, are among the lucky ones who found true love in our small town of Rincón. Bradley Dray, like many of Rincón’s inhabitants, would come down seasonally for the fabulous surf. Little did he know that his seasonal surf trip would result in finding the love of his life! “ I first saw Leah at Maria’s Beach while I was checking the waves one day. She was speaking to a friend of mine, so I went and introduced myself. We exchanged contact information, and in a few days we were on our first date. Since then we became inseparable. “ After a few months of dating the two knew they were destined for each other and decided to get engaged. “Despite the fact that I was supposed to leave the island in a few months, we decided to get engaged, because we both knew that we were never going to leave each other. At that time, Leah was still studying at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, but she took every chance she had to spend with me, as I did the same for her, by permanently moving to Rincón.”
Amor a primera vista, muchos sueñan con encontrarlo pero pocos tienen la dicha de experimentarlo. Leah Greve, una local de Rincón, y Bradley Dray, un nativo de Carolina del Norte, son unos de los suertudos que descubrieron el amor verdadero en nuestro pequeño pueblo de Rincón. Bradley Dray, como muchos de los habitantes de Rincón, visitaba nuestro pueblo por temporada para disfrutar de nuestro famoso surfing pero poco sabia él que su viaje de surfing resultaría en encontrar el amor de su vida. “Yo vi a Leah por primera vez un día en la Playa María’s mientras chequeaba las olas. Ella estaba hablando con un amigo mío así que fui y me presente. Intercambiamos nuestra información de contacto y en pocos días posteriores a ese encuentro salimos en nuestra primera cita. Desde entonces fuimos inseparables.” Luego de varios meses saliendo ambos supieron que estaban destinados a estar juntos y decidieron comprometerse. “A pesar del hecho de que yo debía dejar la Isla en pocos meses, decidimos comprometernos porque sabíamos que nunca nos dejaríamos. En ese momento, Leah aún estaba estudiando en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Mayagüez, pero ella aprovechaba cada oportunidad que le surgía para pasar tiempo conmigo, y yo hice lo mismo por ella, al mudarme permanentemente a Rincón.”

After a couple of years of being engaged, the date was set, and it was time to start planning the wedding. The first decision was the location of the wedding. According to Leah, when asked why she chose Villa Playa Maria, she responded “I was born and raised in Rincón. I love this town very much and feel a strong attachment to its beaches and oceans. On a special day such as Brad’s and my wedding, I would not want to be any further than a few steps away from the shores that I love. The way I feel is the following- I’m going to be surrounded by everyone I care for and love dearly, so I might as well have the wedding in a place I love and care for dearly as well.”
Luego de varios años comprometidos, la fecha fue fijada y había llegado el momento de comenzar a planear la boda. La primera decisión fue la localización de la boda. De acuerdo con Leah, cuando se le preguntó porque había escogido la Villa Playa Marías, ella respondió, “Yo nací y me crie en Rincón. Yo amo este pueblo muchísimo y siento un fuerte vínculo con sus playas y sus océanos. En un día tan especial como nuestra boda, la de Brad y mía, yo no querría estar más lejos que un par de pasos de distancia de las costas que tanto amo. La manera en como yo me siento es la siguiente, si voy a estar rodeada por todas esas personas que tanto aprecio y amo, porque no hacer la boda en un lugar que yo amo y el cual cuido muchísimo.”
The date was set for December 30th 2015 and arrangements had to be made. Leah and Bradley planned for a non-traditional wedding that took place during the morning on a Wednesday. With a couple of key people to assist them, the rest of the arrangements fell into place. Bradley’s mother, Cindy Dray, came down from North Carolina to coordinate the entire wedding. Leslie La Ronga, a long time friend of the family, gave a helping hand with the flower arrangements, and Frances Davis of Rincon Images, performed her magic with her photographic skills. The Dray family all pitched in and cooked up the delicious brunch that was served after the wedding. In the end, it turned out to be just the magical day everyone in the family had hoped for.
La fecha fue fijada para el 30 de diciembre de 2015 y los arreglos tenían que ser hechos. Leah y Bradley planearon una boda no tradicional la cual se llevó a cabo durante la mañana de un miércoles. Con un par de personas claves para ayudarlos, el resto de los arreglos fueron cayendo en su sitio. La madre de Bradley, Cindy Dray, quien vino desde Carolina del Norte, coordinó toda la boda. Leslie La Ronga, una amiga de la familia por muchos años, ayudo con los arreglos florales y Frances Davis de Rincón Images produjo su magia con sus habilidades fotográficas. Toda la familia Dray se dispuso a ayudar y cocinó el delicioso brunch que fue servido luego de la ceremonia de bodas. Al final, resulto ser el mágico día que todos en la familia deseábamos que fuera.

They suddenly found themselves trapped inside the stories of the book traveling through each story until they finally met the Storyteller who released them from Maleficent ’s Spell. Rincon Events was very excited and honored when two of our own, sous chef, Jason Sumpter, and bar manager, Kelly Meager (who is also our graphic designer and a fine artist), decided to enlist us for their wedding day here in Rincon. The couple is an integral part of the Rincon Events’ team. They personally knew that Rincon Events would provide a complete and wonderful wedding experience, and because they have worked with us on weddings themselves, they’d already observed close hand exactly how their day would play out. The pair initially met in Jacksonville, Florida and although the two were falling in love, Kelly had made plans before this to move to Puerto Rico. It didn’t take her long upon arriving to realize that she wanted Jason by her side, and for a few years the two split their time between Florida and Puerto Rico. Years later, while watching the sunset high above Rincon, Jason asked Kelly to marry him. The two said “I do” on November 21st, 2015, here in Rincon at the beautiful Tres Palmas Inn and Villa, overlooking the world-famous surf break. Page 22
Rincón Events estaba muy emocionado y honrado cuando dos de los nuestros, el sous chef Jason Sumpter y la gerente de barra Kelly Meager (ella es también nuestra artista gráfica y una increíble artista), decidieron enlistarnos para llevar a cabo su boda aquí en Rincón. La pareja es parte integral del equipo de Rincón Events, ellos trabajan en cada una de las bodas así que sabían que Rincón Events les proveería con una experiencia completa y la cual cumpliera exactamente con los deseos de como querían que su día fuera. La pareja se conoció inicialmente en Jacksonville, Florida y a pesar de que se estaban enamorando Kelly ya tenía planes para mudarse a Puerto Rico. No le tomo mucho tiempo a ella darse cuenta que ella quería que Jason estuviera a su lado, y por varios años los dos dividieron su tiempo entre Florida y Puerto Rico. Años más tarde, mientras disfrutaban del atardecer en la cima de Rincón, Jason le pidió a Kelly que se casaran. Los dos dijeron “Acepto” el 21 de noviembre de 2015 aquí mismo en Rincón, en la hermosa Tres Palmas Inn & Villa, con vista a la mundialmente famosa playa de surf.
Visual aesthetics, coupled with our unique catering, is Rincon Events’ pride and joy. Owner Allison West and I love nothing more than to make each event flow smoothly together, matching our client’s taste. Since Kelly and Jason are both artists of different disciplines, and our friends, it was very important to us that their overall experience was perfect. Local elements were incorporated into the menu and the design. Guests enjoyed a traditional pig roast and grilled local fish in a coconut ginger sauce, along with passed tuna poke and calamari wrapped in Rincon Events’ signature grape leaf cones. To decorate the dining tables, mango leaves were foraged from all over Rincon to create a greenery runner, embellished with gold geos filled with bright protea flowers, fuji poms, and beautiful white peonies. Kelly also wore special hand-made jewelry by two local artists, Summer Love Jewelry and Ocean State of Mind, both happen to be her dear friend’s. If all this local love wasn’t enough, Kelly also surprised Jason, by having Seaglass Swimwear customize and hang an engraved wooden swing for the couple. La estética visual acompañada de su exclusivo catering son el orgullo y dicha de Rincón Events. Sus propietarias Allison West y yo amamos el tomar cada evento y asegurarnos de que el mismo fluya sin problemas y que cumpla con las especificaciones en cuanto a los gusto de nuestros clientes. Dado el hecho de que tanto Kelly como Jason son artistas con diferentes características y son nuestros amigos, era muy importante para nosotras que su experiencia fuera una totalmente perfecta. Elementos locales fueron integrados al menú y a los diseños. Los invitados se deleitaron con un tradicional lechón asado y también disfrutaron de pescado local asado en una salsa de jengibre y coco, junto a esto disfrutaron de atún cribado y calamares al estilo poke envueltos en conos de hojas de uva, una receta única de Rincón Events. Para decorar las mesas para la cena, hojas de mango fueron buscadas por todo Rincón para crear sobremesas verdes, adornadas con geos dorados llenos de flores protea, pompones fuji, y hermosas peonias blancas. Kelly también utilizó joyería especialmente hecha para ella por dos artistas locales, Summer Love Jewelry y Ocean State of Mind, quienes son sus muy queridas amigas. Como si todo este amor local no fuera suficiente, Kelly sorprendió a Jason con la confección de trajes de baño hechos con cristales de mar exclusivamente hechos para ellos y los cuales oscilaban de un trozo de madera grabada hechos solamente para la pareja. El mágico día y la noche terminaron con todos los invitados de la fiesta saltando a la piscina mientras tocaba el grupo local Mystique. Las Miriams Miriam Juan and Miriam Perez first met in San German PR, where Perez was living at the time. Miriam Juan’s mother was a school director and Miriam Perez was the music teacher. On June 19, almost twenty-five years ago, at a bohemian party, the two fell in love. After that night, they were inseparable. Miriam Perez is an amazing musician and dedicates much of her free time to composing songs and playing concerts for fundraisers. Both are very active with ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation of Rincón), and have rescued countless animals around Rincón. At the wedding, gifts were not accepted, but instead, they asked for donations to ARF. In 2015, same sex marriage was legalized in the US and Puerto Rico. According to Miriam Perez, “as soon as it was legalized, all our friends were calling us asking, when are you two getting married? For years, we had denied the idea of getting married until it was legal where we lived.” Page 30

Miriam Juan y Miriam Pérez se conocieron por primera vez en San German, P.R. donde Pérez vivía en ese momento. La madre de Miriam Juan era la directora de una escuela y Miriam Pérez era la maestra de música. El 19 de junio casi veinticinco años atrás en una fiesta bohemia las dos se enamoraron. Luego de esa noche fueron inseparables. Miriam Pérez es una música increíble y dedica mucho de su tiempo libre en la composición de canciones y en llevar a cabo conciertos para la recaudación de fondos. Ambas son muy activas con ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation de Rincón) y han rescatado a un sin número de animales alrededor de Rincón. En la boda, los regalos no fueron aceptados, en cambio, ellas pidieron que los mismos fueran donaciones para ARF. En el 2015 los matrimonios para personas del mismo sexo fueron legalizados en Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico. De acuerdo con Miriam Pérez “tan pronto como fue legalizado, todas nuestras amistades comenzaron a llamarnos preguntándonos, ¿cuándo se van a casar? Por anos, nos habíamos negado a la idea de casarnos hasta que el matrimonio fuera legal donde vivimos.”
One day they were at Villa Orleans with their friends Roberto and Fernando Ortiz. Fernando suggested they get married at their villa. At the time, gay marriage was still not legal in Puerto Rico, and they all laughed it off. Little did they know, Puerto Rico was about to make a radical change. When they heard that the law had passed, they were more than excited, and one night, while having dinner at Joe’s Bar, they decided to go for it!
Un día estaban todos en Villa Orleans con sus amigos Roberto y Fernando Ortiz. Fernando sugirió que se casaran en su villa. En ese momento los matrimonios gay aun no habían sido legalizados en Puerto Rico y todos se rieron ante la sugerencia. Poco sabían ellos que Puerto Rico estaba a punto de realizar un cambio radical. Cuando escucharon que la ley había sido aprobada ellas estaban más que felices y una noche mientras cenaban en Joe’s Bar ellas decidieron que lo harían, ¡se casarían!
Another close friend of theirs, Christian Alduen, was excited too when he heard they had decided to tie the knot. Christian had many years of experience with printing, wedding design and planning, so he took charge of the invitations and the coordination of the event.
Otro amigo cercano de ellas, Christian Alduen estuvo más que emocionado cuando se enteró de que ellas habían decidido unir sus vidas. Christian poseía muchos años de experiencia con la impresión, diseño y organización de bodas así que él se encargó de las invitaciones y la coordinación del evento.
The wedding was a three-day celebration. “We’re not a traditional couple, so we knew we didn’t want a very traditional wedding. On Friday the 4th of December, we had a welcoming party with wine and snacks. On Saturday, the 5th , we had the ceremony and reception, and on Sunday, the 6th, we had a farewell brunch. A funny thing about our wedding was that we waited until the day before it to actually find our attire. We ended up at Calypso where we picked out the perfect outfits to match our 2 pairs of $5 sandals from Old Navy.”
La boda fue una celebración de tres días. “Nosotras no somos una pareja tradicional por lo que sabíamos que no deseábamos una boda muy tradicional. El viernes, 4 de diciembre tuvimos una fiesta de bienvenida con vino y entremeses. El sábado, 5 de diciembre realizamos la ceremonia y la recepción y el domingo 6, culminamos la celebración con un brunch de despedida. Lo divertido de nuestra boda fue que esperamos hasta el día antes de la ceremonia para seleccionar nuestro vestuario. Terminamos en Calypso donde elegimos los atuendos perfectos para que combinaran con nuestras sandalias de 2 por $5 de Old Navy.”
“The best part about our wedding was the way everyone came together like one big family, even if they did not know each other. We played 70’s and 80’s music and live bomba that everyone danced to. Instead of toasting with champagne, everyone had a shot of Coquito or Pitorro. For us, that brought a tremendous sense of love and satisfaction.”
“La mejor parte de nuestra boda fue la forma en que todos se unieron como una gran familia sin importar que algunos no se conocieran. Tocamos música de los 70’s y 80’s, y también tuvimos bomba en vivo y todos bailaron. En vez de brindar con champagne todos brindamos con un trago de coquito o pitorro. Para nosotras eso nos produjo un tremendo sentimiento de amor y satisfacción.”

Melvin & Cristina Melvin J. Cardona Soto and Cristina M. Soto Ruiz were brought together by the love of two other close individuals. Melvin’s brother, Yamil, was married to Cristina’s sister, Mariela, in 2003, and this is how the two first met. In the beginning, they would occasionally see each other at family events, such as baby showers and birthdays. At first, they did not realize they were attracted to one another, since at the time, they each had a boyfriend and girlfriend. However, as soon as they were both single, that changed! Melvin, who was studying in Mayagüez, would stop in Añasco on his way home to Rincón, with the intention of watching “UFC’s Ultimate Fighter” with his brother. Cristina lived on the first floor of the same house and would also come up to watch the show, and this is how it all started. After a while, Melvin asked Cristina out on an official date. They had been seeing each other for 3 years when Melvin popped the question as they walked together on the beach in front of the Harbor Restaurant in Rincón where they were out for dinner. On February 20 of 2010, the two were married in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Now, after ten years together, the two have opened a successful business in the Rincón plaza. Dulcis Vita Bakery and Coffee Shop is a popular hangout spot for both locals and tourists alike. While Cristina already had a background in baking, and enjoyed doing it, Melvin had always wanted to own his own business. The two collaborated on their ideas, and with a little creativity, some inspiration from their travels, and a whole lot of love, Dulcis Vita was born. According to Melvin,“Cristina and I are a team. Opening this business together has brought us even closer than before. Our recipe for success is that we don’t do it so much for the money, but because we genuinely love and enjoy what we do.” Melvin and Cristina are a wonderful inspiration of love and dedication. These are two individuals who came together and will surely stay together, a sweet story of love and devotion to their work. Page 38
Melvin J. Cardona Soto y Cristina M. Soto Ruiz fueron reunidos por el amor que sentían dos individuos cercanos a ellos. El hermano de Melvin, Yamil, se casó en el 2003 con la hermana de Cristina, Mariela, y fue así como ellos dos se conocieron por primera vez. Al inicio de su relación, ellos se veían ocasionalmente en eventos familiares, como fiestas de celebración para un nuevo bebe y cumpleaños. Al principio, ellos no se dieron cuenta de que existía una atracción mutua, debido a que en ese momento ambos tenían otras respectivas parejas. No obstante, tan pronto ambos estuvieron solteros, la historia comenzó a cambiar. Melvin, quien estudiaba en Mayagüez, se detenía en Añasco de camino hacia su hogar en Rincón, con la intención de ver “UFC’s Ultimate Fighter” con su hermano. Cristina vivía en el primer piso de esa misma casa y también subía a ver el programa con ellos, y fue así como todo comenzó. Luego de un tiempo, Melvin invito a Cristina a salir en una cita oficial. Ellos habían estado saliendo juntos por 3 años cuando Melvin le hizo la pregunta a Cristina, mientras caminaban juntos por la playa que esta frente al Harbor Restaurant en Rincón, donde habían ido a cenar. El 20 de febrero de 2010, los dos se casaron en Añasco, Puerto Rico. Ahora, luego de diez años juntos, los dos han abierto un exitoso negocio en la Plaza de Rincón. Dulcis Vita Bakery y Coffee Shop es un popular establecimiento para pasar el tiempo, tanto para locales como para turistas. A pesar de que Cristina ya poseía experiencia como repostera, y disfrutaba haciéndolo, Melvin siempre había deseado tener su propio negocio. Los dos colaboraron en sus ideas, y con un poco de creatividad, algo de inspiración proveniente de sus viajes, y muchísimo amor, Dulcis Vita nació. De acuerdo con Melvin, “Cristina y yo somos un equipo. Abrir este negocio juntos nos ha unido aún más. Nuestra receta para el éxito es que no trabajamos tanto por el dinero, en cambio, lo hacemos porque genuinamente amamos y disfrutamos lo que hacemos.” Melvin y Cristina son una maravillosa inspiración de amor y dedicación. Estos son dos individuos que se unieron y que seguramente permanecerán unidos, una dulce historia de amor y devoción hacia sus trabajos.
RepresentingRincón Local Rincón wedding and event planner, Sarah Rosario, owner of All Events PR, was chosen by the Puerto Rico Tourism Association to represent the entire island of Puerto Rico in one of the largest luxury wedding conventions in the United States, The Wedding Salon. According to Sarah, “I was more than excited when I got the call. What an honor to be the one chosen to represent the entire island!”
La organizadora de bodas y eventos de Rincón, Sarah Rosario, propietaria de All Events PR, fue seleccionada por la Asociación de Turismo de Puerto Rico para representar a la Isla de Puerto Rico en una de las más grandes y lujosas convenciones de bodas en los Estados Unidos, llamada The Wedding Salon. De acuerdo con Sarah “Estaba más que emocionada cuando recibí la llamada. Que honor ser seleccionada como la única coordinadora para representar a toda la Isla.”
On Monday, April 25, in New York City, Sarah spoke to hundreds of brides and grooms who were attending the event. “Brides and grooms from all over the country attend this convention. Among other things, they come to scout out locations for their wedding and honeymoon. This is where my job comes into play- convincing them to come to Puerto Rico, and more specifically, to Rincón.”
El lunes, 25 de abril en la Ciudad de Nueva York, Sarah hablo ante miles de novias y novios que asistieron al evento. “Novias y novios de todos los rincones del país asistieron a la convención. Entre otras cosas, ellos vinieron en búsqueda de localidades para llevar a cabo su boda y para elegir los destinos para disfrutar de su luna de miel. Es aquí donde mi trabajo entra en juego, convenciéndolos para que vengan a Puerto Rico y más específicamente a Rincón.”

Adventure Sessions
Story & Photography by Frances Davis www.rinconimages.com For the wonderful couples that choose to have their destination weddings here in Puerto Rico, it’s an amazing opportunity to have an adventure, spend time with friends and family, and make memories that last a lifetime. One of the things that makes Puerto Rico an amazing destination is its gorgeous backdrops for wedding photographs. As everyone knows, wedding day can be busy, and trying to fit in all the great photographs you want can be a tight fit, especially for larger weddings. Many couples will opt for a couple’s session the day before, or the day after their wedding, so that they have more time to spend with their guests on the big day. Lately we have been offering something we’ve been calling “Adventure Sessions” to our couples. An “Adventure Session” is a fantastic way to explore Puerto Rico and create great photographs. Over the past year, we have sought out some of the most beautiful locations on the island where we can photograph our couples. Some of the locations include Cueva del Indio in Arecibo, the coastal jungle situated next to Fusion Villas in Isabela, the untouched beach of Playa Soldado on Culebra island, Cueva Ventana in Arecibo, and the open pastures off the 413 in Rincon, as well as Steps beach in Rincon. Choosing a unique location and making it fun means more opportunities for photographs that won’t look stiff, and smiles that will be both genuine and the stuff of memories.

Para las maravillosas parejas que eligen llevar a cabo sus bodas de destinos aquí en Puerto Rico, esto les brinda una increíble oportunidad para experimentar una aventura, pasar tiempo con sus amigos y familiares, y hacer memorias que duren toda una vida. Una de las cosas que hace de Puerto Rico un destino fascinante son sus preciosos escenarios para las fotografías de bodas. Como todos saben, el día de la boda puede ser uno muy ajetreado y el tratar de encajar dentro del todas las grandiosas fotografías que usted desea puede ser una ardua tarea, especialmente cuando de bodas grandes se trata. Muchas parejas optan por realizar varias sesiones el día antes o el día después de la boda para así poder tener más tiempo para disfrutar con sus invitados durante el gran día. Últimamente, hemos estado ofreciendo a las parejas algo que hemos llamado “Sesiones de Aventura”. Una “Sesión de Aventura” es una maravillosa forma de explorar Puerto Rico y crear grandiosas fotografías. Durante el pasado año hemos buscado algunas de las localidades más hermosas de la Isla para llevar a nuestras parejas. Algunas de las localidades incluyen la Cueva del Indio en Arecibo, las junglas costeras situadas junto a las Villas Fusión en Isabela, la inalterada costa de Playa Soldado en la Isla de Culebra, Cueva Ventana en Arecibo, y los abiertos pastizales en la Carr. 413 en Rincón, así como la Playa Escaleras en Rincón. El seleccionar una localidad única y hacer de la experiencia una divertida significa que habrá mayores oportunidades para que las fotografías resulten naturales, sin parecer forzadas y con sonrisas genuinas.
