NEW AND NOTEWORTHY
SUMMER 2022
CSUSM Extended Learning is wrapping up a yearlong celebration of its 30th anniversary! The academic outreach arm for CSUSM, Extended Learning (EL) was founded during the 1991-92 academic year with a series of courses offered to local teachers in partnership with the College of Education. Growth was swift and just 30 years later, Extended Learning offers unique education solutions to students of all ages from North San Diego County to Southwest Riverside County. EL programs include bachelor’s degrees, graduate degrees and creditbased certificates offered in partnership with CSUSM colleges, career-based certificates and certification exam prep programs, online education, customized training for businesses, Global Programs and Services, CSUSM at Temecula, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and much more.
THE PATH FORWARD
Erendira Hernandez | Essential Management Skills for Nonprofits When Erendira Hernandez considers her family’s influence, she draws a direct connection between her parents’ community service and the career in social services that she shares with her siblings. As program manager of emergency services at Interfaith Community Services, she is helping to improve the lives of individuals and families in San Diego County while also carrying on a family tradition and shared passion for social work. In recent years, social service agencies like Interfaith have faced unprecedented challenges as COVID-19 upended lives and disrupted communities around the world. A management skills course offered by CSUSM and the Alliance for Regional Solutions helped Erendira empower her team so together they could forge a path forward.
