Increasing your physical activity even by a small amount will give you health benefits but if you want to get the most benefit you need to be active for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week.

Only 15% of people aged 55+ do enough physical activity. 58% are sedentary which means they are not healthily physically active.

By contacting any of the participating leisure centres at the contact numbers below quoting the “Be Active 55” slogan. The project will begin on the week beginning the 7th April at nominated times with a come and try it week. A timetabled programme of activities will then take place over the following 8 weeks. Keep an eye on the local press for details. Why not give it a go!

Mayo Sports Partnership, H.S.E. West, Go for Life and Westport Leisure Centres have joined forces in an exciting new initiative to get over 55s more active, more often. The aim of the initiative is to increase the usage of leisure facilities by people over 55. Leisure centres in Westport have put together a programme of activities at a reduced cost especially for people aged 55+. You can ‘come and try’ activities such as mobilisers, fun fit, social activities, movement for life, balance games and much more. You will meet new people and have a bit of fun while taking some exercise. It’s a win, win, win situation all round.
