What is ActivExpression ActivExpression is a voting response system which allows your learner to interact with a quiz you have made. The quiz can be multiple choices, true/false, yes/no , numerical or text input type answers. The response pads allow your learners to vote anonymously * and allow everyone to take part in the quiz. At the end of each question you can see the results in various views and at the end of the quiz you can see the overall results if you wish. *the results are only anonymous if you wish them to be you can take note of which learner has which response pad.

What is ActivStudio ActivStudio is a user-friendly tool to help teachers create excellent Activboard lessons. You can install ActivStudio on the computer you use for preparing lessons as well as the computer you use in the class.

Launching ActivStudio the Expression Edition Press the start button on the tool bar, go to Programs and then find ActivSoftware, then select Expression Edition then Expression Edition Again.

When you launch ActivStudio you will see the toolbox appear on your screen. You will need to select the Show Flipcharts button.

Creating Questions. In order to create a series of questions you will need to click on the Question Master Button on the right-hand side of your screen.

When the Question Master opens you will see the following dialogue box. 1. Click in the top to type in the question. 2. Select the type of answer your want to receive from your learners. 3. Select Next to add the answer. (this is not required)

4. Keep the Flipchart option as Create Question Text. 5. Select a Timeout option if you wish. 6. Select Finish. 7. Move onto the next page and completed Steps 1-6, for all of your questions. When you’ve completed your questions you may wish to edit the flipchart pages, by adding colour, images and changing the font.

Using ActivExpression in the classroom To use ActivExpression in the classroom you will need to ensure you have a working Interactive Whiteboard and peripherals.

Adding the devices to the hub To use ActivExpression you will need to first place the Hub into the USB port in the PC. Then open your flipchart which you are using for the assessment. You can allow learners to name their hubs accordingly if you wish.

Registering the devices 1. Open the ActivExpression Edition Software (see instructions above) and click on the Register Icon on the toolbox.

2. Click on the Hub, and then the Action Button 3. Select Full Registration (N.B. you may get a warning asking if you would like to delete previously registered devices, click yes) 4. Select the amount of devices you want to register. If you want them to be named, tick the named box.

5. You will then be asked to limit the amount of characters that the learners can use. (you may wish to select the default) 6. Follow the on screen instructions to register the devices. If you choose to remain anonymous the numbers will be generated as you register.

Using the ActivExpression in Class Using the response pads couldn’t be simpler. Give your learners their response pad and open the flipchart. For every question you will need to click the Play button on and off using the right-hand tool bar. At the end of each question the results will be displayed.

Results The results will automatically be displayed at the end of each question. Use this to add the correct answer to the page
