“Together to Get There”
T
It is a common saying, even a Biblical one, that giving is better than receiving. That saying has never been truer for me than on that fateful day. When I first stepped foot in the Badjao community, I was shocked to say the least. I have seen this state of need before the picture and even documentaries, but to personally smell the stench of garbage, to walk in the rickety bridges where a misstep will land a person in dirty water, to first-hand go to a place where even the basic necessities of life are needed, it made an impression on me that I will never forget. There I was, handing bags of rice to the Badjao, and with each bag I was greeted with a sincere “thank you” or “salamat”, I realized just how much God has blessed me, and I knew that he expected more than just this feeling of gratefulness, He expects me to channel my blessings towards not just my personal enjoyment, but to also use my gifts, my talents, and my time to help reach the needy and to help fulfill the Great Commission. He not only expects this from me, but He
expects this of everyone. So the question is simple, are we going to do what God expects of us?

o the graduates out there: Do you still
remember your first year of involvement in IVCF? Can you still recall the activities you did with your staff and/or other students? What is the thing that you most miss with IVCF? What is the best thing that happened to you as an IVCFer? For the IVCFers of Bohol, involvement and fellowship does not end upon graduation. More than a year ago, we organized ourselves as the Bohol IVCF Graduates otherwise known as BIG. This brought together IVCF graduates who were then student leaders from Bohol, from other areas or other regions who are now living or working in Bohol. Just this May we celebrated our 1st year anniversary. And to kick off our 2nd year with extra fervour, we had our 1st BIG Retreat themed “Together to Get There” last July 22-23 at the Anda Seaside Lodge in Anda, Bohol. It was a fun and learning filled activity indeed with 23 graduate and 5 student participants. Renewing and refreshing: That was how we describe our SR and QT. We were reminded and refilled from the Exposition and Open Forum on Caring for the Elderly, Excellence in the Workplace, Financial Wellness, and Stress Management. It was all excitement and laughter during the recreation at the white sand beaches just few steps beyond our doorstep. What is IVCF activity without a special night? On our only night, we had a Hawaiianthemed dinner at the beach. It can only be described in one word: NOSTALGIC. We presented stuff that marked our generation, the 1950’s1990’s and the 2000’s-present. Some of us also presented our IVCF memora(cont., p.2)

Bondtier (cont’d.) And of course, any BIG activity will never be the same without the informal conversations and food! BIG spans generations of IVCFers. A few of our members were even student leaders during Gwen Wong’s time and were even there when Kawayan Camp was just in its conception. Who would have thought that the “pioneers” will easily bond together with the “digital generation” during recreation and among others! Yes, there were generation differences but amazingly, there was no such thing as generation gap among us during the retreat. The retreat was an avenue for us all to strengthen our bond – a family of Bohol IVCF Graduates. We are indeed together and will surely get there! “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
