MONTHLY UPDATE OF IVCF CENTRAL AND EASTERN VISAYAS REGIONAL UNIT VOLUME 1, ISSUE NO. 5
FEBRUARY 2016
NATIONAL BIBLE WEEK CELEBRATION It was Wednesday afternoon when I received a text message from Kuya Jacob, telling me that I would be assigned in the worship team for the upcoming Day of Prayer (DOP). I was excited. So the following day, I prepared and practiced the songs for the DOP. That same day, our class mayor announced that all freshmen students are obliged to be the cordons for the IEC. I was worried because the IEC and the DOP will happen at the same time. I got worried even more when they told us that if we don’t attend the IEC, we will not have our NSTP midterm grade. I got confused. It was a hard decision. So I asked God for help. Through that situation, it made me trust God even more. I know in my heart that God is in control of everything so I didn’t worry about what I am going to do on Friday. When Friday came, I kept praying to God that I can attend the DOP. Praise God that He made a way for me to join the DOP! During the DOP, I learned a lot of things. I learned the importance of prayer. I also learned the importance of reading and memorizing God’s Word – the Bible. I remembered what Kuya Eli said that it’s important to memorize God’s Word so that we can be prepared whenever the enemy attacks us. For God’s Word is a powerful weapon. It is sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). While praying the “Bible-memorizing game”, I realize that I need to know more about God and His Word. And not just knowing it, but also memorizing and meditating on it. I realized that I needed to dig deeper into His Word. By God’s grace I will be prepared in facing the spiritual battle. CHRISTINE MAE BELLITA BSED – English – I Cebu Normal University During the Day of Prayer, I have learned a lot of things. First was that prayer is a very important thing in the Christian life, it helps the person realize how empty he is and that he needs to ask God for help. Second is that we need to really study, read and memorize verses from the bible because it can help us overcome the temptations and lies of Satan. TESTIMONY IVCF has been used by God in molding me to become who I am today. To borrow one or two lines from Dr. Isabelo Magalit`s IVCF Dream, "Men and women who love nothing more than they love the Lord, and who hate nothing more than they hate sin... who would become pastors, teachers, thinkers of the churches...”. IVCF has grounded me to that dream. Years of involvement and exposure to ISCF, IVCF and IVPM have tempered my life and molded my person to become God-fearing and obedient to His Word. I, now, found myself loving to study God`s Words, conducting Bible studies and delivering sermons. Doing all these has become more enjoyable than practicing my profession as an Engineer. This love of studying and obeying God`s Word has brought me and my family closer to God and made us experience the reality of His presence and protection, Now I could say I'd never find any other alternative apart from this closerelationship with our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ. This I owe to IVCF. I do not intend to define my own vision in influencing others of the IVCF path. Rather, I will continue to link myself and be part of carrying IVCF`s vision from one generation to another. I believe in the vision and which has become second nature to me. I find joy in being part of attaining it because I see how it is working and changing the landscape of our society through IVCF graduates some of whom have influenced my life as a professional, a friend and a Christian family man. How did I start to embrace this vision? It began a long time ago, and it started the right way - God`s way. I made sure that whoever I will spend the rest of my time here on earth with, would share my belief on , the same vision I adhere to, and that she will never be a hindrance but rather a partner in this endeavor. I met my wife in an IVCF fellowship. Truly, we are a team that has never ceased in supporting IVCF in any way with whatever capacity God has given us. We supported in the students’ work-for-a-cause program. We sponsored delegates to join different IVCF camps and has given a portion of our tithes to the IVCF general fund, Conferences, availed myself as a resource speaker whenever I have time, and we have opened our home for IVCF planning/meetings and a venue for IVCF friends and their families to reconnect and rekindle the old times. My wife, Marilyn, who is working in one of the popular fastfood restaurants in Dumaguete City has welcome the idea of having a Bible Study for graduates in her workplace. To date, there is an ongoing Graduates Bible Study and fellowship every Saturday, one group in the morning and another group in the afternoon. (cont., p.2)

She is also planning to form a devotional fellowship with her crew, first with Christians then, hopefully, with everyone. This small but fruitful effort didn’t go uresisted. The enemy has been squirming and making ways to target the leaders from becoming supportive diverting our attention to problems and be side-tracked from our original goal to spread the gospel in our workplace while at the same time strengthening the fellowship of our IVCF brethren. I am asking our IVCF brethren to support us in prayer so that individual graduate leaders will not be shaken from the attacks that the enemy is doing to everyone who is involved in this Godly work. My family has always been reminded that “greater is He who is in us, than he who is in this world.” On my own capacity, I made it an active effort to do the things I mentioned earlier because I believe that it is not just one of the best way to make realize the IVCF vision, but rather, the only best way to keep the IVCF vision and mission roll from my own generation to the next. We, as a family, will continue to support the student work in our small, God-given way, because we have realized that in giving, we have received. We received the blessings of God`s protection, real peace that we need, and the contentment that no amount of earthly material thing can give. We received the strength that we never thought we can have – strength, that keeps us afloat even with the “ ups and downs” of life as an individual and as a family. We received blessings in different forms - financial opportunities, deep friendships and brotherhood, among others. We received all these because I chose the right way - God`s way, through IVCF. We will continue to do these things. I challenge everyone (graduates and students alike),- there is no mediocre plane we can choose to live, if we choose to be eaten with the rat-race of our time, and not make any active effort to choose God`s way. Sooner than we think we will be overcome by the enemy and make our lives and family more miserable and meaningless. We will just fade into oblivion. To be direct but not offending anyone, let me tell you this, there is no such thing as a neutral ground. We are, either on God`s side or not. To be on His side, we get the privileges of His protection, His blessings, His peace and guidance. And when we chose His side, we can start a change in our own small way, and collectively, we can create a dent of godly-influence in our society. There are many godly ways to start, the right way-the right vision, the right mission. But we cannot pick all of them all at once- we can pick one- the IVCF way. It`s working on my life. After all, we are all “Dugong-IV” all the way.
WALTER VENDIOLA Graduate IVCF Dumaguete
I praise God for all the great things He had done to us during the Day of Prayer. We came from different campuses, yet He gathered us for a reason. That which is very important to us – to communicate unto God altogether through our prayers. It is a great pleasure to pray not just for myself but also for others. There is always happiness in sincerely praying for others. The more words that I uttered, the more I realized that I was born not just for myself but I was born for others. Yes, it is a great privilege to pray for the concerns of the different campuses. The fellowship made me feel that I am not alone. The final activity, the “Bible Quiz”, made me realize that I know only a little about God’s wonderful doings. It was the bridge to this realization. Though half of me got disappointed about the score I’ve got – 10 out of 35 – still another part got very hungry in seeking God. I praise God for making me realize and making me hungry to know Him more. Truly, God knows everything and He is indeed, omniscient.
