TSIFTIS

On a quiet pedestrianized street just a few meters from the Athens Concert Hall, the restaurant Tsiftis serves dishes made with Greek products, but in modern and unexpected combinations. Made with fresh fruit, nicely balanced and refreshing dressings, and Greek cheeses, its salads are among its standouts. Try the cowpea beans with grapes, almonds and mizithra cheese, or the organic baby cucumbers with salt, aged cheese from Milos and carob, before moving on to the Greek veal tartare with cherries, the octopus with okra, or the fresh fish with apricots, olive oil, chili and caper leaves.

Boasting one of the most pleasant dining rooms in Athens, Cookoovaya managed to establish itself as a classic in less than a decade after opening. Run by one of the most influential chefs of his generation, Periklis Koskinas, this Greek restaurant is in one of its best phases right now. Ingredients rather than techniques are the stars in Koskinas’ sharing dishes: fresh fish used nose-to-tail, crisp legumes, and lightly cooked seasonal products. The wine, too, is given its due in what is probably one of the loveliest culinary experiences you'll have in the Greek capital.
