India's mining sector is one of the country's most important industries. Many key industries rely on it for essential raw resources. A vast number of small active mines characterise the mining industry. The number of reporting mines in India was anticipated to be 1,229 in FY21, with 545 reporting mines for metallic minerals and 684 reporting mines for non-metallic minerals. Growth is being fueled by an increase in infrastructural construction and automobile manufacturing. The power and cement sectors are also contributing to the sector's growth. Given the excellent development prospects for the residential and commercial construction industries, demand for iron and steel is expected to continue. The Ministry of Mines of the Government of India recently signed MoUs with the Republic of Mali, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Peru, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Ministry of Energy and Mines of British Columbia, the Republic of Chile, and the Board of Trustees of Florida International University on behalf of its Department of Earth and Environment. With the expansion of the mining industry in India, mining industry exhibits are becoming increasingly vital for learning about the industry and meeting industry professionals. The 9th Edition of IME, which will take place from April 4th to 7th and include the 9th Asian Mining Congress as well as buyer-seller meetings, will answer that requirement. The meeting will take place in Kolkata. We sought to focus on subjects relevant to the mining industry in this edition of Construction Mirror. In this edition, our team has included topics such as mining equipment, commercial vehicles, motor graders, and concrete batching plants, among others, and we hope you will like reading it.

CVF Off Highway, India’s premium conference brought together senior professionals from construction, mining, earthmoving, tractor and agriculture equipment industry. Its second edition took place on 10 Mar 2022 in person at the Eros Hotel in Nehru Place, New Delhi. The event welcomed 250+ senior level executives as attendees, 40+ industry experts as speakers and 35+ partners. CVF Off Highway has always been appreciated for its premium content and excellent on ground execution which industry colleagues have been missing owing to the pandemic.
Mr. Harshvardhan Sharma, Head - Auto Retail Practice, Nomura opened proceedings with an inaugural presentation on Indian Off Highway Industry Overview. He talked about, the macroeconomic overview and global GDP growth and said “The pandemic saw more than twice the impact we probably saw in 2008-2009 and we believe that with on going geopolitical situation, inflation & policy tightening it will impact most of the economies however, good news for India is that it is leading the pack and we are likely to continue a 7.8% forecast amongst our peers.”
Our first panel of experts debated on how the Construction and Mining Equipment segment faced similar challenges during the pandemic as most industries & how it bounced back much faster on the back of infrastructure spending and robust rural demand despite the second wave. The moderator for the session Mr. Ashish Modani Co-Group Head and Vice President, ICRA Limited set the tone of the session and discussed how things are for the industry at present, what is the outlook for the next year and what are the key trends. Mr. Jaideep Shekhar - MD (Asia & EMEAR), TEREX 8

(Material Processing India) said “last financial year industry has seen a 3% growth however Q3 was surprisingly below everyone's expectations and there was de-growth in the industry by roughly 23%. He felt that supply chain issues are an important factor behind that; however, the concrete machinery segment and materials processing segment did pretty well.” According to veteran industry expert, Mr. Anil Bhatia, “if you look at the overall scenario you will have short term hiccups because the geopolitical situation is very volatile as finance rates go up, new equipment sales will go up and go down.” Mr. Sanjay Bajaj– VP, Head of Product Management, Wirtgen India Pvt. Ltd said “In India what we have seen in the last 1-2 years is more than 40-50% first time buyers or the new players coming into this, you just can't rely on the existing players as they are also going into the subcontracting mode & we need to penetrate more into new markets and have tailor made kind of products they can afford”.
The next Panel Discussion of the day shed light upon Tractor & Farm Equipment. The moderator for the session, Mr. Rahul Bhargava – Director Management Consulting Automotive Sector, PwC India covered how the future of Tractor & Farm equipment is going to look like. Mr. Jujhar Singh Virk - President & Group Head (Strategy & Growth Avenues) at International Tractors Ltd (Sonalika & Solis) talked about farming practices in the past and how they will shape in the future, he added “Last year tractor industry crossed turnover of commercial vehicles in terms of numbers and is a continuous growing trend. Last year in India over 9 lakh farmers bought tractors from manufacturers.” He further added that foreign countries like Germany, France, U.K and U.S.A have also started accepting Indian manufactured tractors. Mr. G S Grewal, Mr. Jujhar Singh Virk and Mr. Pradeep Rajan pointed towards the good potential of the farm machinery sector in India. We learnt that the contribution of tractors is over 90% in the farm equipment industry (INR 38,995 crores) and how in 2020 for the first time ever || www.constructionmirror.com ||
tractor sales overtook sales of Commercial Vehicles and the underlying changes in the demand for drivers shall also change how the tractors of the future shall evolve.
The next Panel Discussion focused on “Digitization, Connectivity and Automation”. The moderator, Mr. Ashim Sharma - Partner & Group Head Business Performance Improvement, NRI Consulting & Solutions, said “When we talk about the segment of connectivity, digitalization and automation in off highway segment lot of thoughts come to our mind and lot of use cases are also around us starting from not thinking about these machines just as products infact products plus services loaded on to become solutions both in the farm as well as construction sites.” Mr. S.K Jaruhar – Consultant, Kobelco Construction Equipment India Pvt. Ltd. added “that he got a first look at the telematics system way back in 2010 when he was associated with Volvo construction equipment, which was very innovative and unexpected.” Mr. Ashish Jangale - Head Precision Farming Solutions, Mahindra Tractor spoke candidly on how “Digitization and connectivity opens a whole lot of new use cases in agriculture like land preparation, crop care and harvest which are three major stages in a crop growth cycle. In today's scenario, iron equipment can now be connected to IOT devices sensors. These sensors can measure properties of soil on the go.”
At the end of the session a very important question was asked by one of the attendees about haulage vehicles, and the abuse and safety factors & the whole panel contributed in answering that. This session summed up how the emergence of new and advanced technologies are empowering owners, || www.constructionmirror.com ||
operators & dealers to access real-time updates on machines and insights into work sites on the go. Our third panel discussion of the day shed light upon a very interesting hot topic in talks these days - “Electrification and Hydrogen” has its time come? This panel discussed new business models, the way customer expectations are changing, the way OEM’s are developing technologies. All that in itself is changing the way we see agricultural and construction equipment. The panellists also threw light on battery manufacturers, software capabilities of India, electric combustion and electric mobility to name a few. The session was summed up by talking about the role of electrification and other alternative fuels in the off highway equipment industry.
The last panel discussion of the day was on “Off Highway Vehicle Rental, pay per use and financing in the post COVID era.” This panel discussed how we have been equipment buyers rather than renting equipment which makes a lot more sense economically. A few trends from the automotive industry like ola and uberization of the vehicles have trickled down to construction or off-road equipment. India has been adopting many of these trends like emissions, technology transfer or business models from the automotive into the off road but on the other hand there arises a challenge on the cost front that keeps increasing. Mr. Drone Tewatia Lead - Marketing & Business Development & KAM, PV Clean Mobility Technologies, Mr. Deepak Gupta - Vice President Business Development, Bharat Forge and Mr. Hrishikesh Kulkarni - CEO, Nandan Petrochem Limited were also present & gave some insightful presentations. That brought us to the end of a rather actionpacked day. Lots of interesting panel discussions and presentations which were quite useful and worthwhile. The next edition of CVF Off Highway will be held towards the first half of March in 2023 in person in New Delhi and based on the phenomenal response received for the most recent edition, the organisers expect a gathering of over 500 delegates, 60+ speakers and over 50 partners. heed so far. I have written to Pralhad Joshi ji in this regard," Mr Soren tweeted, along with the letter. A large portion of coal mining in mineral-rich Jharkhand is done by a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, or CIL. "These coal companies are not paying legitimate demand of revenue to the state, resulting in huge dues to the state from these companies," the Chief Minister said in the letter. Mr Soren drew attention to the Mineral Concession Rules, 1960, which says royalty is chargeable for mining in a leased area, among other similar conditions. CM || www.constructionmirror.com ||

Godrej & Boyce commits to save 3 billion liters of water in the next 3 years The company has saved over 12 billion liters of water since 2010 On World Water Day, Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of Godrej Group, has announced its commitment to save 3 billion liters of useable water in next 3 years. The company will achieve this feat by harvesting rainwater and recycling wastewater which will eliminate the need of extraction of freshwater for the industrial processes and usage in its campuses. Since 2010, Godrej & Boyce has saved over 12 billion litres of water, of which 5.6 billion litres of water has been saved by harvesting rainwater and 6.5 billion litres of water has been saved through recycling wastewater within its campuses and beyond. For rainwater harvesting, the company has installed more than 50 intervention structures that facilitates replenishment and augmentation of the groundwater within its campuses and the communities. Further, to allow more water to seep into ground and increase the concentration of groundwater, the company has planted over 1.5 lakh trees across its campuses and in the nearby communities and further intends to plant around 25000 trees by 2025. The conserved Mangroves in Vikhroli, Mumbai are host to over 10 lakh trees. Commenting on the announcement, Tejashree Joshi, Head, Environmental Sustainability, Godrej & Boyce, said, “As India struggles with the challenges brought by the climate change, Godrej and Boyce is committed to make a greener India, and to do so, groundwater remains an important resource that needs to be saved. It provides for almost half of all drinking water needs worldwide, and about 40% of water for irrigated agriculture and about 1/3 of water required for industry. Through effectively recycling wastewater and harvesting rainwater, we ensure that the stress on fresh and groundwater resources is minimized. In conserving this valuable, invisible resource we must never lose sight of the very visible implications of its scarcity.” After achieving water positivity by 2016, Godrej || www.constructionmirror.com ||
and Boyce had successfully offset more than its cumulative water footprint for the past decade. Further reinforcing its commitment towards remaining water positive, the company is working closely with CII to further set specific targets for the next decade. Valuing wastewater as a resource for over three and a half decades since 1986, Godrej & Boyce incorporates the complete recycling and recovery of effluents at the design phase. To reduce the use of freshwater, the wastewater after going through the effluent treatment plant, further undergoes advanced filtration through Reverse Osmosis (RO) process to increase the utilisation of recycled water. The recycled water is then re-utilised for various industrial process. This not only results in conserving groundwater but also helps it rejuvenate and enhance in quality. The company which is committed to being net zero for energy, water, waste, and carbon for all new buildings, shared the following important milestones they have achieved in terms of water conservation: 1. 50% reduction in specific water use, doubling the water use efficiency. 2. 45% of the organization’s total water needs is sufficed through recycled water. 3. Effluent Treatment Plants with advanced filtration Reverse Osmosis systems enable recovery of over 90 per cent of wastewater for reuse. 4. Along with wastewater recycling, focus is on replenishing the groundwater through rainwater harvesting interventions within and beyond our campuses. 5. Collectively, over 12.1 million cubic meter wastewater recycled and rainwater harvested by Godrej & Boyce would suffice the need of 240.5 million persons for over a year. CM || April 2022 ||

Infrastructure outlay in Budget will help boost post-COVID industrial order In her Budget speech on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a 35.4 per cent hike in capital expenditure outlay to Rs 7.5 lakh crore, betting on public capital expenditure with an intent to pump the investment cycle and boost India's Inc's economic recovery. At the Business Today's Budget Roundtable 2022, the industry leaders got together to talk about the post-COVID industrial order and almost unanimously applauded the government's budgetary allocation towards infrastructure. "If I look at the collective wisdom of the crowds, everybody's applauding the Budget. I also believe that looking at the helicopter view, tourism and hospitality sector is an indirect beneficiary due to several steps that are being taken in the Budget. If there are more train stations, airports, highways, then we tend to be a beneficiary. If there's ease of doing business, more disposable income, more dining out, then we're also beneficiary," Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) MD and CEO Puneet Chhatwal said. "Where I think we missed out…giving this industry || www.constructionmirror.com ||
infrastructure status doesn't cost anything," he added. Chatwal said that it could have encouraged more capital inflow coming into the sector. After 75 years of independence it can be included in the concurrent list of the constitution. "This sector has shown a lot of character, has paid all its taxes, rents, statutory obligations although they were put in a lockdown. So, little bit more empathy would have been good," he said. Agreeing with this view, Vinayak Chatterjee, managing trustee at The Infravision Foundation, said, "There's one school of economists which say you can put money directly into the hands of the people. The other extreme of the spectrum is in terms of creating lasting capital assets for the nation. You achieve the same thing by spending this kind of outlay in infrastructure. At one stroke, it creates demand for intermediates, employs an army of workers across India. In the past, we've done a little of this and a little of that." CM

Kirloskar Brothers Limited showcases new generation energy-efficient pumps at Kisan Mela
28
Pune-based Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), the flagship company of the $2.5 billion Kirloskar Group, announced today that it has showcased a series of new generation energy-efficient pumps for the benefit of farmers. The pump range was showcased at Kisan Mela 2022, India’s largest Agri fair in Pune.KBL’s recently unveiled new generation pumps are unique in many ways. Made with advanced technology, these pumps consume less energy for high performance. Hence, farmers can save money through lower electricity bills by using Kirloskar’s new generation pumps for irrigation purposes. We have been helping farmers’ prosper by producing energy-efficient pumps since the very beginning and will continue to do so in the future as well,” said Ms Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. With Kirloskar pumps, the efficiency remains constant for a long period of time and therefore there is no loss in efficiency as observed in the case of generic pumps in the market. Kirloskar pumps help to save energy and reduce farmers' electricity bills by up to 20 percent compared to other pumps available in the market. Choosing a right pump for irrigation contributes to the overall farmers’ prosperity. Farmers, therefore, can rely upon the new generation Kirloskar pumps that are energy-efficient, have lower electricity and maintenance costs and less chances of motor burning resulting in Lowest Lifecycle Cost (LLC). Kirloskar pumps have gained customers ‘trust for over a century and are a preferred choice among users. Our submersible range of pumps are capable of drawing water from deep borewells which means farmers can use these pumps even in case the water table declines below a certain level. In addition to our wide range of water filled submersibles, we also have the most extensive range of oil filled submersibles in the Indian market. Oil filled submersibles are not as well-known as water filled submersibles since most manufacturers do not make this product and therefore do not market it. Oil filled submersibles have a huge advantage over water filled in markets that are plagued by voltage fluctuation. Our submersibles have one of the widest voltage bands ranging from 150 to 240 volts. This ensures that our oil filled submersibles are resistant to motor burning due to these fluctuations. In addition, we also provide F class insulation in our
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
|| April 2022 ||
oil filled submersible pumps which again minimizes the chances of motor burning. High class bearings used in the oil filled submersible pumps reduce wear and tear and helps continuous working and sustained efficiency over the period of time and resulting in longer life of the pumps. Unlike water filled submersibles, oil filled submersible pumps are suitable for not only vertical but also horizontal installation. When placed horizontally in a water tank it is capable of emptying the tank to a point where it is almost empty thereby preventing collection of sediment and stagnant and foul-smelling water. Our efficient and energy saving design of oil filled submersible pumps result in continuous working and lower electricity bills. Waterfilled submersibles require frequent rewinding which oil-filled submersibles do not. A unique feature in KBL’s water and oil filled submersible pumps is the advanced sand-fighter design which is not available in generic pump brands. When the pump fetches water from sandy borewells, chances of sand being pumped along with the water is very high which reduces efficiency of pumps and increases wear and tear of pump components. KBL’s advanced sand-fighting arrangement technology prevents sand from entering the pump and hence avoids wear and tear of the pump, prevents pump jamming and results in higher efficiency and longer life of our pumps. KBL’s mini-series of pumps carry a host of other features that include lightweight and compact design. These pumps are made with high efficiency and energy saving design along with thermal overload protector. The motor of this pump is designed to withstand a wide range of voltage fluctuations from 180-260 volts and reduces chances of motor burning. These pumps are used for applications such as farming, agriculture and household water supply. Kirloskar Brothers’ pumps provide hassle-free and reliable operation during their life. They are also highly efficient and have low maintenance costs which results more cost saving for the end consumer. Manufactured with enhanced features, these pumps bring up to 24 months of warranty which ensures cost-free repairing and servicing in case of any default during this period. In general, Kirloskar pumps deliver services in all conditions for several years without any maintenance cost, provided they are operated and handled efficiently. CM || www.constructionmirror.com ||

•
Rise of the alternates: Within traditional sectors, alternate segments are carving a niche for themselves – be it rental housing, flexible spaces or REITs. Investors too are looking at these segments as a strategy to diversify their portfolios.
CBRE South Asia Pvt. Ltd., India’s leading real estate consulting firm, today released its ‘Real Estate Market Outlook 2022 – India’ report at the CII Annual Real Estate Conference – ‘Reinvigorating the Real Estate Industry in 2022 & Beyond’. The report highlights key trends and projections for the Indian Real Estate sector for the year 2022. During the event, CII also announced the election of Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO, India, South East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE, as the Chairman for CII (Northern Region) for financial year 2022-23. According to the report, despite the continued cyclical upswings and downswings of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian real estate sector has remained largely resilient. It is now showing signs of revival, on the back of India’s strong position as a driver of the global economy as well as promising growth projections across segments such as office, I&L, residential and alternative real estate segments. In 2022, we expect the sector to leverage the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development and industrial growth, with segments such as DC, logistics and manufacturing being the focal nodes. We also expect ESG to transcend sectoral boundaries and become central to business interests as investors, developers and occupiers imbibe health & wellness into their strategies while improving energy efficiencies and reducing their carbon footprint. Mr. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO, India, South East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE, said, “The second wave of the pandemic was a blip on the Indian economy and by extension to the real estate sector. We have come a long way since then. Leasing activity across all sectors and segments has witnessed an uptick

in the past 6 months and we expect this growth to continue into 2022. In fact, a few sunrise sectors such as I&L are expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels as well in terms of leasing as well as supply addition. We also expect the India market for alternate segments such as DCs, life sciences, etc. to mature further, enabling investors to diversify their portfolios as well as provide more investment opportunities. We also expect post-pandemic structural changes to accelerate further. For instance, the focus on ESG is expected to accentuate across all sectors, even as tech such as AI and AR / VR finds more takers in the sector. Business resilience and future investments are likely to see a positive impact on the segment overall with real estate decisions becoming a strategic consideration in the boardroom.”
Office - Positive momentum to sustain through 2022 Gross absorption in office space is expected to touch 45-47 million sq. ft. in 2022, a growth of about 13-14% from 2021. Technology firms would continue to dominate leasing in 2022 while flexible space operators, BFSI, engineering & manufacturing and life sciences segment are expected to contribute to the growth in office space take-up significantly. Similar to 2021, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR are expected to continue to drive transaction activity in 2022. • CBRE expects around 51-53 million sq. ft. of new office space to become operational in 2022, up by about 4-5% on an annual basis. • Physical offices are here to stay, along with hybrid working; occupier appetite for office expansion is strengthening. • Workplace strategies would evolve to suit

Industrial & Logistics – Sector to remain beacon of growth
Leasing activity is expected to remain strong in 2022 and touch 35-37 million sq. ft.; a growth of more than 20% on an annual basis. The continued expansion of e-commerce and 3PL firms against the backdrop of macro-economic recovery and growing online retail penetration is expected to drive the sector. Further, next-gen logistics facilities are likely to dominate upcoming supply pipeline as warehouses grow taller. • Warehousing space take-up expected to rise further in 2022: Continued upgradation / expansion opportunities in tier-I cities, new market penetration in lower tier cities and the extension of local distribution networks in emerging logistics hubs will aid this growth. • Supply pipeline to keep up with absorption: CBRE expects about 32-34 million sq. ft. of new warehouse space to become operational in 2022. The regionalisation of supply chains across APAC is expected to benefit alternative manufacturing hubs including India. • Rental growth set to continue: Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Pune registered rental growth in the range of 10-20% and cities such as Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi-NCR recorded a 2-7% y-o-y increase. We expect rental growth to continue across cities in 2022, especially in investment-grade, tech-enhanced and strategically located assets.
Top trends expected to shape 2022 •
Rise of Cold Storage (CS) facilities: CBRE Research expects CS capacity and stock in India to double over 2019-23 to touch 70-75 million tonnes and 1.4-1.5 billion sq. ft. respectively. E-grocery, food manufacturing and delivery sectors and life sciences to catalyse the growth
Retail – On a slow but steady recovery path
Although retail recovery was hampered by Omicron, we expect pent-up demand would spur activity across all consumption categories. || www.constructionmirror.com ||
Expansionary demand is expected to strengthen this year: Demand from categories such as QSRs, supermarkets, electronics and consumer durables is expected to sustain. Stores to be multi-functional, to move beyond “pure retail”: Omnichannel retail and hybrids between digital and bricks and mortar will become more visible. Stores may actually serve as a solution for supply chain issues by covering the ‘final 50 feet’ which is the most expensive leg of the logistics process. Sharper focus on experience: It would become imperative for retailers and shopping centres to offer shoppers an experiential incentive to visit brick-and-mortar stores. Innovations such as thematic stores, promotional events, expanded display areas, novel F&B concepts will be key drivers.
Residential Sector: On firm ground
Continued policy push, a revival in economic activity coupled with a low mortgage rate regime are some of the key factors driving residential growth. The strong sales momentum witnessed post Q3 2020 has provided developers an incentive to launch new projects / new phases in existing projects. • Capital values anticipated to rise: Capital values across both the mid-end and high-end segments are expected to witness an uptick in 2022 due to factors such as robust sales momentum and rising input material cost that could force developers to pass on the increase to homebuyers. However, asset pricing trends are expected to remain divergent across sub-segment types and within cities as the level of unsold inventory and growth in sales are expected to dictate capital value movement. • Mid-end and affordable segments to drive momentum: Traction expected in premium / luxury housing categories while a steady demand for housing units priced between INR 45 lakh to INR 1.0 crore is likely to push up the demand for affordable and mid-end segments in 2022. • Focus on larger unit sizes and plotted developments: With the elongated period of remote working and home-schooling is likely to continue, factors such as larger homes, plotted developments with flexibility on configurations and ancillary amenities are likely to remain key focus areas for developers.

Investment activity is expected to witness an uptick in 2022, with investors likely preferring the opportunistic route. We also expect alternate investment funds to emerge stronger going forward. • Investments to reach near pre-pandemic levels: Total investments in 2022 expected to rise by about 5-10%, to reach around the pre-pandemic levels of 2019. • Metros to lead investments in office, retail and development sites; those I&L to extend to tier-II cities: Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Bangalore are expected to remain on investors’ radar in 2022, with major focus expected on office, development sites and I&L assets. With the emergence of tier-II cities as the new engines of warehousing demand, we are likely to witness investor demand for such spaces in these locations. • Investments in greenfield assets to grow: Since there are limited high quality / core assets that are up for sale in the market, we could see greater activity via the opportunistic route as investors rebalance risk and return in the post-pandemic era.

Student accommodations / co-living: Strong revival in activity expected with the reopening of universities and workplaces. REITs: Operational and financial performance to witness strong recovery; additional REITs expected in the office sector. Life sciences: A paradigm shift in life sciences real estate dynamics was recorded post the pandemic, leading to their share of office leasing to rise in 2021 - a trend we expect to continue in 2022. Surface mining, which employs a variety of processes, is the most frequent method for extracting non-fuel minerals, accounting for 97 percent of total production. digging a big hole in the ground and extracting the required material from it. Miners may use this approach to recover silver from the soil. Underground silver mining is the other method. The initial stage in building an open pit is sometimes demolishing a hilltop with explosives to reveal the rocky materials beneath. For this process, rotary drills are used to create the holes that will be used to insert the explosives.

space, bad illumination, the accumulation of hazardous waste and poisonous gases, dust particles from metals, nonmetals, and toxic compounds, radioactive materials, insufficient air supply, the use of explosives, and unstable roofs. Workers' exposure to risky subsurface and surface activities can be reduced with the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomous technology. Machines can monitor the environment automatically, issue signs and alerts, discover trouble regions, and work indefinitely even in dangerous conditions. It's hard to condense the entire list of resources that can be required for mining in a short amount of time. Because the type of mine and raw material, the location of the site, the volume of the operation, the presence of possible risks, and other considerations all play a role, each mine is distinct in some way. Certain considerations, however, are similar to many mining ventures. From environmental protection to compensating employees, adequate finance is required. Because of this high level of financial commitment, mine owners are usually more interested in cash flow generation and improvement methods. A diverse range of equipment is also required, ranging from subterranean mining equipment such as mining loaders to heavy-duty vehicles on the surface. common mining equipment: • Crushers are machines that take huge boulders and crush them into smaller rocks or dust. • Wheel loaders: These tools play an important function at the mine's face, digging through the material and safely lifting and transporting it. • Drill rigs are machines that are used to drill holes in the ground. Drill rigs are a versatile piece of heavy gear that may be utilised both below and on the surface for tasks such as rock excavation. This is only one of the many different types of mine drilling equipment available. • Dozers: Bulldozers' mobility, power, and persistence enable them to perform a wide range of tasks in the mining industry. Smaller dozers are easier to manage underground, whereas larger dozers are better suited to heavy-duty surface mining. • Haul trucks: Haul trucks are built on a size that allows for high-volume operations in mines. They have the same functionality as a dump truck. These off-highway vehicles are large enough to transport significant volumes of mined raw material, as well as excavated rock and dirt.
How Technology Is Playing Its Roll In Mining Operations? Some complicated orebodies across the world demand genuinely "human-less" operations to allow for the safe and efficient extraction of ore in particular mining zones. The term "zero entry mining" refers to the fact that no humans are required to enter the mining zone. Zero-entry mining has the ability to greatly increase the value of marginal or unrecoverable ore deposits while also converting large amounts of mineral resources into ore reserves. limit their applicability to select locations that demand a high data rate and close proximity. Private LTE will be a feasible option for providing reliable connection while avoiding the limits. New industrial wireless communications systems, such as 4.9G/LTE and 5G, will also play a crucial role in supporting these digital technologies, and are changing the way mining perceives digital communications' strategic relevance. With Industry 4.0, security issues have grown and evolved, as new technologies have introduced new security risks to the mining industry. The convergence of these technologies has created a gap for new attack surfaces, such as when unlicensed wireless communication was applied to mining activities, current hazards and challenges of the underlying technology were transferred to the mining ecosystem, and new attacks on-field equipment such as automated mining trucks were introduced. Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are dense heterogeneous systems that connect a pool of computer nodes to a variety of sensors and actuators. CPS networks, such as automated mining vehicles, are vulnerable to attacks that target communications, storage, actuators, computational nodes, and perceiving sensors.

As of now, more than 500 exhibitors are participating this year and the number will keep on increasing till the last few days of the event. The Indian economy relies heavily on the infrastructure industry. The sector is critical to India's overall growth, and the government has placed a high priority on enacting regulations that would assure the country's building of world-class infrastructure in a timely manner. Power, bridges, dams, highways, and urban infrastructure development are all part of the infrastructure industry. The Indian government is projected to make significant investments in infrastructure, particularly motorways, renewable energy, and urban transportation. The government set a goal of building roads costing Rs 15 lakh crore in the next two years in April 2020. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) reached a key milestone in May 2020 by excavating a 440-meter tunnel beneath the bustling Chamba town on the Rishikesh-Dharasu highway (NH 94).
Over the next ten years, the Indian energy sector is estimated to provide investment possibilities totaling $300 billion. Over the next five years, the NHAI would be able to collect revenue of Rs 1 lakh crore through tolls and wayside services. The Indian infrastructure business is booming, and events like Excon keep the industry connected and show the rest of the globe what we're capable of. After the Covid-19 outbreak, the infrastructure industry is obviously on the mend, and India's government is accelerating growth across sectors. Not only that, but India is the world's thirdlargest market for construction equipment, with numerous multinational firms currently producing and selling their products there. The event allows these large and small enterprises to gain a comprehensive view of the industry in one location. The growth of road and highways is evident, the budget for roads and bridges in 2022-23 is Rs 64,573 crore. This is a 2% reduction from the updated predictions for 2021-22. The actual spending for roads and bridges in 2019-20 and 2020-21 surpassed the budget predictions by 1% and 9%, respectively. The NHAI has been granted Rs 1,34,015 crore for the fiscal year 2022-23, which is 106 percent more than the revised estimate for 2020-21. 75 percent (Rs 1,00,100 crore) of the planned amount will come from the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, 15 percent (Rs 20,000 crore) from the monetization of the National Highways, and the remaining 10% (Rs 13,915 crore) from the Permanent Bridge Fees Fund. 3 It's worth noting that the NHAI budget has more than quadrupled from 2019-20 (budget forecasts) to 2022-23. (revised estimates). In 2020-21, actual expenditures were 8% more than budget predictions. The updated forecasts are predicted to outperform the budget predictions by 8% in 2021-22. Note that in 2019-20, the actual expenditure fell short of the budgeted estimate by 14%. CM

Yes, the construction equipment industry is using technology in a very big way. Today we can see that all the equipment that is made and sold in India has got internet connectivity for getting data about the equipment's performance. Customers have access to that data on a daily basis or it is available to customers through portals. Such data is being utilised by customers on a daily basis to improve the efficiency of their operations. The construction equipment industry is working very aggressively to further improve the AI so that customers will be able to get a complete analysis of the data and pro-active signals to improve performance. In the future, they will have a pro-active mechanism of getting information about their products and of course, they will get pro-active signals through this AI. Machine Learning And Artificial Intelligence In Construction Machinery In the construction industry, where business objectives are rigorously time and margin driven, modern construction equipment is critical. Modern construction equipment is extremely fast and dependable, and it has high-quality control systems built into it as it has progressed over time. The proper use of this equipment contributes to the project's economics, quality, safety, speed, and timeliness. It optimises the use of material, manpower, money, and the scarcity of competent and efficient labour while also keeping a close eye on the quality controls in place. Machine and mechanism operations in the production of construction and installation works account for a significant portion of the total cost of the facility's construction. When a machine duplicates human cognitive functions including problem-solving, pattern recognition, and learning, it is referred to as artificial intelligence (AI). Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence. Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that employs statistical techniques to enable computers to "learn" from data without having to

be explicitly programmed. As a machine is exposed to more data, it improves its ability to understand and provide insights. Design, bidding, and financing; procurement and construction; operations and asset management; and business model transformation are all areas where AI in construction has the potential to assist participants realise value. Construction AI assists the sector in overcoming some of its most difficult difficulties, such as safety concerns, labour shortages, and cost and schedule overruns. You may expect AI (and the allocation of resources channelled towards AI) to play a more major role in construction in the next years as market barriers to entry progressively drop and breakthroughs in AI, machine learning (ML), and analytics accelerate. Machine learning and AI have a plethora of possible applications in building. In the industry, information requests, open issues, and modification orders are commonplace. Machine learning is akin to having a personal assistant who can go through all of this information. It then notifies

project managers of the significant issues that need to be addressed. AI is already being used in this way by a number of apps. Its advantages range from simple spam email filtering to sophisticated security monitoring. AI helps in avoiding cost overrun: Despite having the best project teams, most major projects go over budget. On projects, Artificial Neural Networks are used to anticipate cost overruns based on parameters such as project size, contract type, and project manager competence. Predictive models employ historical data such as projected start and finish dates to create realistic timetables for future projects. AI enables employees to gain remote access to real-world training materials, allowing them to quickly improve their skills and expertise. This cuts down on the time it takes to bring on new people to projects. As a result, project completion is accelerated. Increases safety on construction site: Modern machines and equipment are increasingly incorporating various sensors to aid in the overall function and operation of the complex and costly machinery. Temperature, engine condition, and features of the material application are only a few of the parameters that these sensors can monitor in the construction. To intelligently monitor building sites, these numerous sensor instruments are being coupled with AI. These tools can analyze data in real-time and forecast potential problems, delays, or malfunctions with a high degree of certainty. Predictive maintenance can help you avoid expensive delays and downtime. Construction is fraught with dangers. At the site, there is a multitude of possible hazards, ranging from unsafe structures to moving machinery that could harm humans. AI is also assisting in the improvement of overall job site safety. Many parts of construction activities are increasingly being monitored by cameras, IoT devices, and sensors installed on building sites. AI-enabled systems can keep a constant eye on what's going on without being distracted. AI systems are capable of detecting risky conduct and notifying the construction team of potential hazards using facial recognition and object identification technologies. This not only reduces liability, but it also has the potential to save lives and boost efficiency. For added protection, AI-enabled surveillance devices are also helping to maintain a careful eye on the construction site. With so much valuable equipment and machinery on hand, the

facility might be a target for thieves. AI is being used at construction sites to automatically check security footage for any suspicious behaviour. This programme can not only perform typical analytics like movement alerts, but it can also watch for specific activities or images that enter the frame. The AI can keep an eye on the site's equipment, tools, and supplies, and send out notifications if someone tries to take something. Data from the job site is captured and analysed: You may acquire 3D scans of your construction sites using AI construction equipment. You can then feed that information into a deep neural network, which will classify the progress of your project's many components. This enables your management team to address minor concerns before they escalate into large issues. In the future, algorithms will examine infinite combinations and alternatives based on similar projects using "reinforcement learning," an AI technique that allows algorithms to learn through trial and error. Drones and geospatial AI for land surveying and mapping: Drones, geospatial AI (GeoAI), and geospatial information systems (GIS) all help to cut down on the time it takes to obtain accurate survey maps and aerial photos of a job site. Drones can be used to keep track of project updates and issues on the job site. This provides more information for better decision-making and project management. Boost Productivity with AI-Assistant Vehicles: Some firms are beginning to offer self-driving construction machines that can execute repetitive operations more efficiently than humans, such as welding, bricklaying, concrete pouring, and demolition. Excavation and preparation work, for example, is carried out by autonomous or

by construction businesses to remotely maintain and update their fleet of sensors without ever having to touch them. AI in the post-construction phase: Long after the work is finished, building managers can use AI. Advanced analytics and AI-powered algorithms generate useful insights into the operation and performance of a building, bridge, roads, and nearly anything in the built environment by gathering information about a structure using sensors, drones, and other wireless technologies. This implies AI may be used to track the progression of issues, identify when preventative maintenance is required, and even direct human behaviour for maximum security and safety. Jobsite safety: The use of machine learning on building sites has the potential to raise the degree of safety to new heights. It can be used to quickly identify, analyse, and report any anomalies found. An ML platform uses visual and audio data from a construction site to detect safety issues, allowing for safety briefings to be held to reduce risk and increase overall safety on construction sites. Risk assessment and mitigation: The use of machine learning has made risk assessment much faster and more accurate. Construction projects are typically complicated and generate a lot of data, which ML systems can mine for precise and detailed risk evaluations. Construction IQ, an Autodesk solution, helps projects manage and mitigate risk on a daily basis, as well as improve performance in real-time. The software has been exposed to millions of construction difficulties and observations, as well as inspection data, building information models, change orders, and project results, allowing it to better recognize risks and gain actionable insights.

semi-autonomous bulldozers. With the assistance of a human programmer, these bulldozers can prepare a job site to your exact specifications. This not only frees up your personnel to focus on the real building process but also allows you to complete the project faster. With offsite construction, you can get your job done faster: Construction is increasingly reliant on offsite facilities operated by autonomous robots that piece together building components, which are then assembled by workers on the job site. In an assembly line, autonomous machines may complete structures such as walls faster than your humans. Because the autonomous machines are doing this labour, your personnel can focus on higher-value operations like plumbing and HVAC and electrical system installation. AI and Big Data: In the construction industry, artificial intelligence and big data are being used. AI systems are exposed to a limitless quantity of data to learn from and improve on every day at a time when vast amounts of data are being created every day. Every employment site becomes a possible data source for artificial intelligence. Data collected from mobile device photos, drone footage, security sensors, building information modelling (BIM), and other sources has accumulated into a pool of data. With the use of AI and machine learning systems, construction industry professionals and customers will be able to examine and benefit from the insights created by the data. Equipment predictive maintenance: There are now end-to-end solutions that utilise machine learning and sensors to identify and inform businesses about changes in equipment vibration or temperature, with no prior training with machine learning or the cloud necessary. These technologies can be used
Construction Technology Trends: A Look Into the Future
Virtual and Augmented Reality (AR): In the construction industry, augmented reality and virtual reality are at a fork in the road. While AR superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the world, VR uses a virtual environment to replace the real one. In the construction industry, however, AR is swiftly overtaking VR as an emerging trend due to its benefits and applications. about equipment while the user can look at components or see display warnings when there are risks nearby. Robotics: Don't be surprised if you see robots at your place of business! No, it wouldn't be a science fiction story—rather, it would be an unavoidable fact. With their precision and accuracy, robots are expected to become a dominant force in the construction industry. The initial cost of robotics may be significant, but the rewards will be well worth it. Eco-friendliness and modularization: Off-site construction, often known as modularization or prefabrication, is another intriguing trend. With its promise of uniform quality and shorter construction timelines, the technology has the potential to generate structures that are comparable to those constructed traditionally. As a result, forward-thinking construction firms have already begun using these tactics in their operations. The new technology's uniformity aids in the reduction of prices and lead times. The approaches also have the added bonus of being environmentally beneficial, as any extra materials used during construction may be simply recycled. Concrete that heals itself: Self-healing concrete is expected to be utilised on buildings, roadways, and residences by 2022. Consider how new technologies could be used to address issues like structural deterioration and building flaws. Although the technology is still in its infancy,

it has the potential to be a great solution to such problems. Concrete is the most frequently manufactured and used material in the building sector, and many experts predict that it will be utilised in the amount of 5 billion metric tonnes per year by 2030. Collaboration in construction projects using the cloud: Cloud-based Collaboration will be another major trend in 2022. Communication is essential to the effective completion of any project, and construction projects are no exception. With increased fragmentation in construction projects and little or no synchronization amongst teams, cloud-based collaboration solutions are expected to bridge the gap effectively. With multiple project participants and teams located throughout the globe, it's clear that project complexity rises, and efficient project team cooperation becomes critical to success. Developers, engineers, and contractors will be able to effortlessly integrate and manage their existing processes through a single, alwaysconnected cloud-based platform by 2022. You can also look for real-time collaboration via cloudbased collaborations. Contractors can use the cloud to collaborate on the same data sets across the back office. You'll also find projects running in real time with correct data and digitization, reducing manual activities, saving time, increasing cost flexibility, and increasing profitability and productivity. concrete batching plants. Concrete batching facilities are divided into four types: central mix, pre-mixed, semi-dry process, and wet process.
Concrete Batching Plants
Horizontal Concrete Mixing Machines A horizontal concrete mixing machine is a machine that produces concrete in a continuous manner. These machines are used in mass production to save time and money, lowering the final product's price. These machines may be installed on a trailer or chassis and transported from one site to another without interrupting the process. The horizontal concrete batching machine is a relatively modern addition to the concrete industry, which has existed for many years. This machine is effective because it can generate 100 cubic yards of concrete every hour, which is ideal for major projects that require a huge volume of concrete in a short period of time. A tilt-up hopper and a self-contained mixer are also included inside the drum. With these features, the operator merely needs to add water and aggregate to generate high-quality concrete.
The benefit of Horizontal Mixing Plant We frequently take for granted the devices we rely on in our daily lives. Although you may not think about the concrete batching machine very often, it is an important aspect of the construction of your home or business. There are numerous advantages to mixing and pouring concrete with a horizontal concrete batching machine. For example, you can mix up to 3 cubic metres of concrete at a time, and you can pick between multiple mixing settings to get the exact consistency you desire.
Verticle Concrete Batching Machines Vertical concrete batching machines are a relatively new development in the concrete mixing business, and they have the potential to change the way we make concrete. These new machines, which can be managed totally by a single employee, produce a higher-quality mix with less work on the operator's behalf. By lowering tiredness and enhancing quality control, this enhances safety. The usage of vertical concrete batching machines is common in the construction of large structures. They're made to make concrete without the use of any other ingredients. Waterscarce environments, such as arid regions, might also benefit from vertical batching machines. A hopper with cement powder and aggregate is included with the equipment. To make concrete, an operator pours water into a revolving drum inside the machine through an entrance on the side.
Benefits of Verticle Batching Plant Vertical batching machines might be an ideal choice for those wishing to streamline the process of mixing and distributing concrete. Vertical batching machines can accommodate a wide range of mix designs and pour heights, ensuring that everyone may find a machine that meets their requirements. The devices also do away with the need for a mixer truck and other
Because of their efficiency and versatility, horizontal concrete batching machines are becoming increasingly popular. One of the most significant advantages of these machines is that they consume less energy than vertical concrete batching machines, allowing them to run on a smaller engine. heavy machinery, lowering costs and increasing efficiency. These devices can be customized to meet your specific requirements.
In the construction business, vertical concrete batching machines are quite popular. A vertical concrete batching machine is not only efficient but also produces a product that is more ecologically friendly and long-lasting. Vertical batching machines consume less energy than horizontal batching machines, resulting in lower fuel consumption and pollution levels. Reduced fuel usage also contributes to the machine's long-term viability by reducing the requirement for new fuel sources.
How Concrete Batching Plants Produce Concrete Concrete manufacturing is a pretty straightforward process to grasp. This material is made up of components or materials that are mixed together. To make concrete, the base
To manufacture concrete, a concrete batching plant machine mixes several elements. Water, air, aggregates, cement, and fly ash are among these materials. It is made up of many parts and machines, such as mixer units, conveyors, aggregate and cement batchers, and cement silos. A concrete batching plant is a machine that mixes and blends concrete ingredients uniformly to produce concrete of the specified strength and quality. The plants are available in a variety of layouts and production types, including Ready Mix, Precast & Prestressed, Central Mix, and RCC, and can be utilised wet or dry. It takes a long time to prepare ready mix concrete on a construction site. By adopting a batching plant for your project, you can save money on construction costs. Each cargo of concrete is made on the spot. When we employ a concrete batching plant, we can produce and distribute concrete in minutes. Make adjustments to your concrete output as needed to get the most out of it.
Components of a Concrete Batching Plant Aggregate hopper and weighing system: Because the batching plant is self-contained, an aggregate hopper is required. The quantity of components utilised at the location determines the number of compartments in this hopper. With an unloading piston under each section, it can be 3 to 6 divisions. This permits the weighing system to order the unloading pistons automatically. Each unloader has a weighing system that measures the aggregate. The same stated ratio is assured when the process is controlled by the weighing system, and the quality is maintained.

Vertical concrete batching machines are ideal for producing small batches of concrete. In comparison to a horizontal batching machine, the vertical design provides for a more compact machine that can be put in confined spaces and is much easier to operate. Vertical batching machines have a smaller footprint than horizontal batching machines, thus they take up less room, which is significant when space is restricted. Because the machine has a smaller footprint, it uses less fluid to move the slurry through the system.
component, cement, is blended with water, fly ash, sand, and aggregates in specified quantities. Some of the concrete you'll make will be utilised for roads, walkways, and sidewalks. It can also be used for a variety of other things. Depending on the types of jobs that your particular company handles, this could be a much-needed advantage.

while mixing the aggregate. Stones can become lodged between the mixer's body and the blades on occasion. The shock absorber has springs that move the blades a little to allow the stone to pass through.
Mixer: Various mixers are available for your site, depending on the size of your concrete batching plant. The smallest mixer has a capacity of 0.5 m3 while the largest mixer has a capacity of 3 m3.
Silos: Different sizes of silos are employed depending on the capacity of the concrete batching machine. The silo can hold 30 tonnes, 50 tonnes, or 80 tonnes of material. You'll also need to increase the amount of silos to increase manufacturing capacity. For a batching plant with a 120 m3/hour capacity, for example, four 80-ton silos are required. A device known as the cement feeding screw automatically adds the cement required for the mixer.
For batching plants, there are two types of mixers: •
Mixer planetary
•
Mixer with two shafts
A dual shaft mixer is usually used for this since it is more powerful and can handle larger volumes. Two electric motors are linked to their gearboxes to power the twin shaft mixer. The planetary mixer, on the other hand, has one central shaft that mixes the aggregates within the mixer. The metal sheets are intended to be replaced. This ensures that the mixer used in high-quality batching plants may be utilised for a long time. The Mixer is about 5 metres above ground level. The transmixer is parked directly beneath the mixer, and the mixer pours ready-mix concrete into the transmixer's drum. •
Mixing raw materials with steady, modern production technology, computer control, exact measurement, and testing ensures complete, stable, and trustworthy quality, as well as a high level of strength, and so improves building quality significantly (structure).
•
Commercial mixing stations are used by construction units, which speeds up construction while cutting rental costs for equipment, racks, pipes, templates, and other items. Owners of units can reduce investment risk by shortening the construction period.
•
Since the commercial mixing plant's quality is consistent and reliable, the design unit can avoid the "fat beam," "fat column," and "heavy plate" according to the mixing station's design.
•
The use of mineral active admixtures (such as slag and fly ash) in the mix mixing station can improve concrete's long-term performance in terms of waterproofing, antifreeze, anti-cracking, and abrasion resistance, as well as the building's service life.
•
Reduces the amount of labour required, the cost of construction management, the technical difficulties, and the risk of poor quality.
Things To Consider While Buying a Batching Plant The quality of the machinery is one of the most || www.constructionmirror.com ||
significant elements to consider. It makes no difference how much money you have; the most important thing is that you find a high-quality machine for your plant. Some countries charge a premium for high-quality machines, while others charge a cheaper price for identical machines since their labour costs are lower than in other countries. However, in other countries, low prices are accompanied by inferior quality. High-grade devices may appear to be a little pricey at first, but the quality much outweighs the cost. When you have a high-quality machine, you can rely on it. It requires little upkeep. It can function 24 hours a day, and many problems, such as electrical and mechanical part failures, that can arise with the main system, will not occur if the machine's quality is excellent. The other issue is your capacity; you should think about expanding your business in the future and purchasing a machine that will meet your future needs. If you live in a developing country where the building industry is growing at a rapid pace, you can consider purchasing a batching plant with a larger capacity than your existing requirements. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. Otherwise, you should sell your old equipment and purchase new equipment. This will be significantly more expensive than purchasing a larger item. How can you tell the difference between a tipper and a dumper? Typically, a tipper is thought of as a city truck that transports materials from one point to another. It could be any type of material, whether it's for a construction site, rubbish collection, or aftermarket material transportation. While a dumper is mostly employed in the mining industry, it has a higher capacity than a tipper and typically contains more material than a tipper, also known as an earthing truck. || www.constructionmirror.com ||
determines how hefty or strong one dumper must be. Dump trucks with capacities ranging from 750 kilogrammes to 250 tonnes are available on the market. Motor Graders: For Better And Smooth Terrain The grader often referred to as a motor grader or a road grader, is a heavy-duty machine with a long blade that is employed in a variety of industries. Graders are widely used to provide a flat surface on which asphalt will be applied in the building and maintenance of dirt and gravel roads. The objective of graders in civil engineering projects is to perform fine grading. Depending on the grader, it may be able to run various attachments or be built for specific jobs such as underground mining. The grader's job in civil engineering is to "complete grade" (to refine or set precisely). When a job necessitates fine grading, a motor grader should be considered. Snow removal is also a breeze with motor graders. Many business owners place a high value on their motor graders. Many people in the business choose graders because they keep roads in good shape and are useful instruments for large projects.
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
Motor Graders nowadays are available with high engine horsepower and operating weight, allowing for maximum output while requiring little maintenance and assuring maximum dependability even in the most difficult site circumstances. They're ideal for heavy-duty road construction, mining, and a variety of maintenance tasks. Axial, Variable Displacement Pump with Load Independent post compensated valve is standard on the most recent motor graders. Auto reversing is a standard feature on this electro-hydraulic, computercontrolled, variable speed (on-demand) fan drive system. Heavy-duty tandem axle, front axle leaning and oscillations, articulated frame construction, power shift gearbox, variable flow load sensing hydraulic system, and other advanced design elements are included. Fully automatic power-shift gearbox, variable fan drives, lock-up-clutch, an electronic pump controller, advanced electronic diagnostic and

Parts of a Motor Grader
Motor Graders
A motor grader is a large piece of equipment with a unique shape. Here are some of its main components: Operator’s cab: In the cab, you’ll find multiple controls, levers, and a steering wheel. A windshield and large windows enclose the cab. Moldboard: The moldboard is a grader’s working tool. It’s usually 12 or 14 feet in length and consists of a cutting edge attached to the bottom and end bits on the sides. The moldboard is located between the front and rear axle. It can be rotated 360 degrees in either direction, allowing the operator to save time through a technique called reverse grading. It can also be shifted left or right, tilted forward or backward, and lowered and raised. Prime mover: The prime mover is the rubbertired tractor-mounted at the rear. A diesel engine powers it. Frame: The frame is connected to the front axle and extends the full length of the grader. Its height allows enough room for the moldboard to do its job. Scarifier: The scarifier is located in front of or behind the front wheels and is hydraulically controlled. It uses teeth to break up compacted surfaces. 78
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
|| April 2022 ||
Motor Grader Operating Tips Angle for the tip: The moldboard tip on your motor grader may help you get more out of your machine by extending the life of your cutting edge and preventing machine damage. The moldboard's top can be tilted in front of or behind the cutting edge. This assists in properly positioning the cutting edge to achieve the appropriate cutting and rolling motion on the material. Maintaining a rolling motion on the material while operating reduces the amount of horsepower needed and increases productivity. When cutting heavy material or doing light finishing work, tipping the moldboard forward is helpful. The blade should be tipped backward after cutting through the material to generate a rolling movement in the material being graded. A lift and throw movement is created by tilting the moldboard rearward. Moldboard position: When the moldboard is positioned at a right angle to the mainframe, it is at a zero-degree angle. Bulldozing materials straight forward for short distances is usually done from this position. The majority of motor grader work is done at 10 to 45-degree moldboard angles, while you should utilize a steeper blade angle when working material uphill and a reduced blade angle when working material downhill. Proper machine position: Your motor grader's || www.constructionmirror.com ||

mainframe should be straight, with the drawbar and circle centered under the frame, for optimal machine stability when maintaining a road surface. Keep the moldboard angle as square to the frame as feasible for the greatest possible pass width on the travel surface. Increase the blade angle if material starts to flow around the leading end of the moldboard or if the rolling motion dies. Maintain a high machine travel speed for optimal efficiency while keeping it low enough to avoid machine bounces. Maintain a safe space between your window and the inside of the front tire. Keep the front tire clear of windrows and never go over them to avoid sidewall damage from sharp pebbles. Auto articulation: Auto articulation is a function that allows the machine to articulate itself without the need for operator input. The machine's rear structure will follow the angle of the front steering wheel. The function is controlled by a three-position switch that allows you to choose between forwarding and backward modes as well as forward-only mode. Disengage the parking brake and turn the implement lockout switch to the unlocked position to activate the auto articulation feature. Forward gears one through four and backward gears one through three have auto articulation. When the key is turned off, it disables it, and it must be put on again when the motor grader is started.
Turning technique: The three-point turn has the shortest and most efficient turn radius. A narrower turn radius can also be achieved by using auto articulation and/or wheel lean. To get a bird's eye view of motor grader turn tactics, watch this video.
Machine control in Motor Graders The machine control technology is one of the most complete steps a corporation can take to increase motor grader performance. Machine control continues to advance, allowing contractors to work more effectively in new ways. It helps contractors prepare for the correct supplies and equipment to accomplish the project by taking a comprehensive look at the job site, but it also provides very unique benefits to motor graders. One advantage is the potential to cut down on rework. Graders can get a final grade faster and more precisely thanks to machine control technologies. This saves time and money by reducing rework expenses and allowing contractors to go ahead rather than backward. The more often a machine is used, the more wear and tear it undergoes as well as more hours on the engine and the machine's filters and fluids. With a grader, machine control allows a task to be accomplished in fewer passes, reducing each of these parameters while doing the same amount of labor. Contractors can more sensibly sequence and design their equipment if they can operate more effectively. If the contractor understands that a grader will get the grade to where it needs to be after a certain number of passes, they may better arrange for the compactor to be ready to go after the final pass is finished. Motor graders continue to be one of the most challenging machines to locate and train operators for. Machine control technology allows less-experienced operators to attain grade characteristics equivalent to those with more field experience, reducing the learning curve dramatically.

a way that saves time and resources. Data like as engine hours, fluid levels, and operating temperatures are instantly available to fleet management, replacing the days of handwritten notes and phone calls from the field. Users may also set up automated maintenance alerts to ensure that equipment are serviced more precisely and consistently. Similarly, if specified machine health parameters operate outside of allowed ranges, users can have automatic notifications delivered to the maintenance staff. Fleet managers can more easily decide the best time to undertake maintenance with up-to-theminute and more accurate data quickly gathered into a report – critical in grading applications where other upstream and downstream processes are dependent on a grader's activity. Telematics also enables equipment dealers to be more proactive in grader maintenance. Because the dealer's service department has access to the same data as the maintenance department, it may be able to predict issues before they occur. Telematics also allows contractors to keep better

track of equipment hours on a daily basis, which helps with real billing and estimating. The real data retrieved from the system allows the contractor to calculate the precise number of hours a grader worked on a certain task, allowing for correct invoicing. Similarly, a contractor might use equipment hours from a previous work to help them stay competitive with precise estimates when bidding on new jobs. Monitoring idle periods is an often-overlooked skill. Engine idling implies inefficient grader usage, as well as lost fuel and greater depreciation, both of which are related with excessive engine use. It's also beneficial for the environment if you don't idle as often.
When to use a Motor Grader vs a Dozer? Both bulldozers and motor graders are extremely adaptable construction machines. They may be used interchangeably a lot of the time. They are, however, built to do distinct duties better than the others. If you must select between the two, you must first determine which is the most efficient for your project. The first item to examine is the task requirements || www.constructionmirror.com ||
and what the equipment will be used for. You should also be aware of the distinctions between the two types of equipment, as well as their respective pros and drawbacks. We'll compare motor graders and bulldozers in this post to help you make the best decision.
Uses of a Dozer Despite its large size, operating a bulldozer is rather simple and may be suitable for novices. If a typical track dozer isn't right for you or your staff, wheeled or micro dozers provide more agility in tighter locations.
Clearing spaces: Brush, trees, stones, and anything else that is embedded in the ground and the path of a building project may be removed with bulldozers. They can also be used to remove wet topsoil in preparation for road building. When it comes to removing boulders and rocks, a slanted blade is a powerful instrument. Backfilling: Backfilling holes or trenches can be done with dozers. When using a bulldozer to backfill, the angle blade is the greatest instrument. Spreading: Dozers are excellent in spreading fill materials like rock or dirt. Finishing: After removing or spreading debris, bulldozers are capable of fine grading and constructing drainage. When it comes to complete, however, they are not as exact as motor graders, as you shall see. Transporting: With a bulldozer, you may carry a variety of commodities across short distances.
Disadvantages of a Bulldozer Bulldozers aren't built to be precise. As a result, if you require a machine that can do fine grading, a motor grader is likely the best option. Another downside of bulldozers is that they might harm the environment. They || www.constructionmirror.com ||
Use of Motor Graders Motor graders are critical for completing precise grading and leveling. Consider the several layers that a piece of equipment must operate with to highlight the need for precision in roadbuilding. The surface, the base, and the subgrade are the three layers that make up a road. Asphalt, gravel, or other materials may be used as the surface. It must provide a safe driving surface that is resistant to wear, skids, and water. The pavement surface is supported by the base and subbase layers. Compacted gravel, sand, rock, or a combination of these elements make up the basis. The existing natural soil serves as the subgrade. The top 12 to 24 inches of the earth must be cleared of rocks, stumps, vegetation, and other debris before road building can begin. To maintain a sturdy foundation, proper drainage is also required. A motor grader, for example, can complete all of the necessary jobs in road construction from start to finish, assuring sturdy, long-lasting roadways.
Disadvantages of Motor Graders The operation of a motor grader necessitates knowledge and expertise. As a result, it might not be the greatest option for newcomers to the construction sector. According to some operators, learning how to utilize a motor grader to its full ability is the most challenging task. A motor grader can accomplish a lot of things, but it's up to the operator to understand how to employ all of them. In addition, because motor graders utilize rubber tires rather than rails, they have low traction. Due to the moldboard placement, they are not ideal for transporting big loads such as a bulldozer. Finally, certain projects are too huge for motor graders. CM || April 2022 ||

Drifting: Drifting is when materials are pushed directly ahead of the dozer blade. The maximum operating distance is determined by the capacity of the blade. The maximum drifting distance for a medium-sized bulldozer is normally 200 to 500 feet. Bulldozers can also be used to transport demolition waste.
may cause soil disturbance and erosion on sloping ground, as well as the destruction of trees. Bulldozers are also large machinery. Their weight compacts the soil, perhaps causing irrigation problems on shallow soils. Consider the impact and how it will affect your project goals in the long run before choosing a bulldozer.
