EXCON 2022 - South Asia's largest tradeshow for construction equipment and technologies - came to a successful conclusion. The Bengaluru show, which lasted four days, drew visitors and exhibitors from around the world. The construction industry was eagerly anticipating the event. The fair has evolved into one of the most important global events for the construction and equipment industry, in keeping with the industry's progress. The Indian government has estimated that it will need a lot of money to build infrastructure that meets certain standards while also supporting the growing process. They've also identified the necessity for advanced technology to speed up and improve the efficiency of infrastructure development. As a result, the Indian government is working hard to boost building activity in the country. The infrastructure and construction sectors in India have progressed beyond their origins. For decades, both government and commercial developers have focused on projects that were simple to implement and yielded the most economic gain. However, there is now a significant chance to take on complex and difficult projects, where the main factor for construction companies will be not just cost efficiency, but also technological expertise and efficiency. The increased trend toward technology has been one of the most notable changes in Indian real estate in recent years. Technology is transforming the Indian construction business, from project planning to construction mapping to site safety. Surprisingly, contractors and developers are not solely focused on the financial benefits of technology. Rather, they are focusing on long-term viability, which is a good sign. The use of technology in real estate is influenced by a number of factors. The needs of the client are changing, evolving, and growing. Our team has successfully stacked up some industry leader interviews in this Post EXCON issue to provide you with an overview of the construction and equipment sector. Recycling asphalt waste is a solution to the material shortage problems

Managing and procuring materials in the construction industry is rapidly becoming a concern, due to material shortages and rising costs. For example, let’s talk about asphalt: how many miles of new roads are being built, how many new projects need to be financed, and how many roads are under maintenance? Suffice to say, the European’s road network has a total length of 86,992 miles (140.000km). Maintenance to repair potholes to prevent damaging vehicles is an enormous task. Building new roads and improving existing ones require plenty of materials. The tasks behind maintaining roads involve removing the old asphalt and laying down a new layer. Recycling old materials requires taking time to crush everything down to usable size. Now, the question is: how do you speed up this process? In Austria, an earthmoving and logistics company owns a stationary plant to produce gravel and sand. Meanwhile, in their recycling centre, they collect and recycle C&D waste and asphalt from their construction sites and use it as recycled aggregate. To get this done, they installed a BF80.3 crusher bucket on their excavator, replacing their stationary crusher for the practicality of a moving unit. Allowing the company to produce material of different output sizes independently and simplifying their maintenance also reduces costs and saves time. If you consider that asphalt can be recycled repeatedly and that RAP is suitable for areas with heavy traffic because it makes roads more durable. Then you can also understand this next company’s choice to use an MB-L160 crusher bucket on their Caterpillar 924G loader to process vast quantities of asphalt. If you

CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

18

June 2022

were to run the asphalt slabs through a stationary crusher, it would jam the crusher and creates prolonged downtime. On the other hand, MB’s jaw crusher makes everything easier and simpler. Another major problem with road infrastructure is road maintenance. How much damage can cracks or potholes create? To vehicles and can affect safety itself. For this reason, to shorten maintenance times and reduce costs, a road works company installed an MB Crusher MB-L200 crusher bucket on its Manitou telehandler, recycled the crushed asphalt, and reused it for road maintenance. Recycling asphalt provides the company, municipalities, and those who manage roads with several benefits: recycling materials means reducing purchasing and disposal costs and less dependency on a stationary production plant. Moreover, recycling crushed asphalt is good for the environment as it reduces greenhouse emissions and limits the usage of non-renewable natural resources like gravel, sand and stones. Crushing materials with MB’s units is even easier than expected. As our Austrian customer reminds us, “A great advantage is that the crusher bucket is straightforward to transport […], especially with hard-to-reach construction sites, road work in the mountains, or remote locations – and therefore, its versatility allows you to do more than what you typically could do: therefore, increasing the value of our work, of our construction sites while respecting the environment.” Choosing the right path is often easier than you think. Hydro Bridge and Tunnelling projects made easy with MB Crusher

Press Release

A highly renowned hydro, bridge and tunnelling contractor from the Northern part of India found an ideal solution in BF90.3 to more competitively diversify his business. An esteemed customer of ours recently won a tender where they were required to undertake a bridge construction work in a very remote location in the Northern part of India. The project site was located in the hilly terrain where mobility of heavy equipment and trucks was difficult and also electricity connection hard to obtain and sustain. For their project, there was a significant requirement of 20mm down aggregates to prepare concrete and 40mm down to maintain the base strength. The concrete was used to make the bridge. With the site being in a remote area, transportation cost for aggregates were coming excessively high but also the availability of the aggregate material at their site was scarce as the trucks were not filled to their optimum level due to un-even hilly terrain. Moreover, it was very difficult to install a stationary crusher due to inadequate land and scarcity of electricity. Today, they have deployed a Hyundai R215

CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

excavator and they are crushing 20mm and 40mm down river bed material which is readily available at their project site, thus eliminating transportation cost. All this was possible by using a BF90.3 crusher bucket on their Hyundai R215 Excavator: with a single base machine and operator, they are running Crusher Bucket for approximately 10 hours per day, producing precise 20mm and 40mm down material as required for their project. This led to significant reduction in the operating expenses and improved their overall project timelines. Prior to securing this tender, they had deployed MB-R800 Drum Cutter in a tunnel making project in the neighbouring site and also bought a BF60.1 Crusher Bucket for their hydro project in another location. Being a very satisfied customer with the product and support, customer had once again entrusted MB Crusher for their project requirements. CM

THE WORLD WITHOUT ALUMINIUM

Article by

Press Release

Mr. R.K Jain Senior Vice President Corporate Affairs Jindal Aluminium

Aluminium, which began to be commercially produced in 1886, is the second most widely used metal globally. The amount of Aluminium at our disposal makes it no surprise that the metal finds its use in so many varying aspects of our everyday life. Aluminium's universal appeal is its odourless, malleable, conductive, and corrosion-resistant qualities that make it an intrinsic metal. It is so vital to modern mobility, environmental sustainability and the economy that without it, many of the conveniences of today's world would merely not exist. Transportation, construction, consumer goods and packaging are sectors where the metal continues to make very practical items. Its lightweight and sturdy properties are qualities why Aluminium continues to be used vastly, even in intricate industrial uses. Aluminium today is not just the fastest growing metal but a versatile product whose positive efficiency, safety and durability are noteworthy. It helps the metal in catering to present-day requirements and complex engineering demands.

Consumption & Demand

Though low in comparison to a world average of 11 kg, India, with a per capita aluminium consumption of 2.5 kg, is continuing to show growth. With anticipated policy changes, the metal's consumption is only set to grow CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

further. Globally, data indicates that the auto and transport sector are spearheading the consumption pattern with 23% of aluminium consumption, construction at 22%, packaging at 13%, electrical at 12%, machinery and equipment at 8.5% each. Aluminium in consumer durables is 4.5%, with other segments amounting to 4%. The power sector is the biggest consumer of Aluminium at 48% used in India's vast electric distribution system. The transportation and automotive sectors are at 15%, building and construction at 13%, and consumer durables contribute to 7% of aluminium consumption in the country. As the world turns green, with EV manufacturing being one of the critical measures, economic growth led by Aluminium in this space is expected to increase rapidly. The future is bright for the use of Aluminium, with the Make in India initiative offering the most significant potential opportunity for its consumption to grow manifold. It has set the ball rolling with several Government-backed mega-projects to see Aluminium being used as a critical component. These include creating smart cities, ensuring housing for all, the rural electrification mission, dedicated freight corridors, high-speed railway lines, etc. The often-asked question is, why is Aluminium so wanted? It is because Aluminium is uniquely www.constructionmirror.com

positioned to meet the needs and challenges of the 21st century. The downstream aluminium industry has created capacities and capabilities to provide engineered Aluminium products that meet the most detailed requirements of industries and are also a great fit in a circular economy. These are energy efficient and suited for extreme weather conditions. This lets it offer itself to different applications in almost every industry and finds a role in creating every other product in use today. Aluminium shares an intrinsic bond with the world we live in today. Its strength-to-weight ratio makes it particularly useful as a structural material weighing 65% less than steel. It leads the complexities of executing perfection in transportation, construction, consumer goods and packaging industries to a possibility. It may not be the strongest on its own, but Aluminium draws incomparable strength when alloyed with other metals. We find it being used in cars, trains, and airplanes because it allows the vehicle to withstand impact. Aluminium's feather-light weight enables it to travel at increasingly higher speeds without adding much drag. For the construction sector, its corrosionresistance qualities let Aluminium forego the need to apply any anti-corrosion coating, which is an added cost. But what makes this a developer's

www.constructionmirror.com

The consumer goods sector has seen Aluminium replace other materials like steel and plastic as it allows heat to dissipate at a much faster pace. New age gadgets and appliances like flat-screen TVs, smartphones and tablets have included Aluminium over time, and its applications in various consumer products have let the devices work for hours without overheating.

Larger Good

The use of aluminium alloys has revolutionized the world, especially through green initiatives. While we would perhaps have lived similar lives without Aluminium, the world would have been less comforting. Less comforting concerning the use of a metal, whose applications and capabilities enriched by the downstream sector have added a host of modern conveniences to our lives. The world would not have achieved industrial development as quickly without Aluminium. CM

delight is that building fenestrations with Aluminium are almost free of maintenance, and they have higher thermal efficiency and can be moulded into various desired shapes supporting modern design innovations. Some advanced countries are experimenting with photovoltaic devices and micro-wind turbines that can be integrated directly into the aluminium façade offering green buildings a new meaning.

Trimble technology used to complete Indoor stadium of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

Press Release

Design and estimation by Tekla Structures made sure that the stadium was completed on time despite the pandemic Cutting-edge software from global construction technology leader Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) helped complete the construction of a new 500-seater Indoor Sports Stadium in Lucknow, on time, despite the ongoing pandemic. The Indoor Stadium, in the campus of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow, will be inaugurated shortly. The stadium is designed to hold competitions for sports such as gymnastics, badminton, etc. Trimble’s flagship construction software, Tekla Structures was used by steel fabrication firm Zamil Steel to design and fabricate all steel structures for the stadium. Zamil Steel is a leader in pre-engineered buildings (PEBs) made

of steel and was awarded the contract for design, delivery, supply and erection of the stadium’s main structure. The highly complex structure for IET Lucknow Indoor Sports Stadium is spread across 5,200 square meters. Further, the design for this structure required continuous coordination among the teams for fabrication erection and transportation during the first wave of the pandemic. Designers and fabricators also needed to collaborate closely to modify and update the structural members used in the design. Trimble’s Tekla Model Sharing software was used to enable the project executing team to collaborate seamlessly, while working remotely during the pandemic-induced lockdown.

www.constructionmirror.com

The most important element in the stadium’s construction was to design a steady structure with optimum steel consumption. The estimation of raw materials made at the beginning of the project helped the production team to arrange the material “just on time” when the job was released for fabrication. Also, keeping in mind the challenges that were expected during the erection process, the design team had to carefully choose the most appropriate connection system.

Rao, Director-Engineering, Zamil Steel India. “Efficient designs and constructibility are easily achievable with Tekla, which helps us meet our clients’ high expectations, ultimately increasing our productivity and profitability,” he added. A truss system was used to provide framing action for this structure where each truss was designed as a combination of several segments. Transportation of this truss in curved segments was in itself a big challenge. Each segment length was decided in such a way that maximum number of segments could be accommodated on each trailer. “Considering the shape of the structure, executing it in 2D AutoCAD was very challenging. Tekla Structures allowed us to do error free detailing of the unique curved structure with absolute ease,” added Mr. Rao of Zamil Steel India. “Besides, NC files generated in Tekla facilitated the project executing team to fabricate the curve members accurately, saving man hours on-site and during fabrication. Tekla also greatly enhanced the overall construction quality via tools such as 3D views and live schedules,” he added, recalling the project experience. CM

Press Release

“The IET Lucknow Indoor Stadium is a tremendous accomplishment in modern civil engineering and construction. We are glad to work with Zamil Steel as their technology partner for designing, detailing and fabrication of the stadium’s steel structure, which enabled them to deliver the project on time despite a raging pandemic. We believe Tekla structures to be the most accurate software for all steel structures as it allows collaboration, estimation of cost prehand and timely execution of processes,” said Paul Wallett, Regional Director, Trimble Solutions, India & Middle East. “Tekla Structures’ unique capabilities and error free delivery of projects is what makes it the most efficient and effective solution for pre-engineered buildings”

“We execute most of our projects on Tekla as it extensively supports jobs with revisions. Further, 2D drawings and 3D models created in Tekla are accurate and meet our clients’ needs perfectly, allowing us to build the most complex structures with relative ease, as we have seen with the IET Lucknow Indoor Stadium,” said Mr. Vasudev www.constructionmirror.com

Q. What have been your two days of experience

them this tag. Otherwise, export is currently a very big market for rubber tracks.

EXCON is an international event and a fantastic platform to connect with our customers. Here, customer means provision, OE, government, and infrastructure customers, or any kind of customer. We have got a chance to connect with them here very well. It’s a very excellent platform to launch a new product; a platform where you can showcase your product range or product basket. Whatever you want to do, you can do it in a very smooth manner. With regards to our association with EXCON, it goes way back to 2000 when I first came here as a visitor at Palace Grounds, and since then we have decided to join hands as an exhibitor, and later on, we have decided to become the sponsor. We are participating as a sponsor and we are participating as an exhibitor. The way EXCON has grown in the last 22 years, our association has also grown up with them very well. One more thing which I would like to add here is that EXCON is also attracting many young talents, which means students who come from engineering backgrounds or information technology backgrounds, and when they see this equipment and infrastructure, I am very sure many of them will think of making their career in the construction equipment industry. Excon is not confined only to construction; it is mining and material handling, so certainly a big team will join us in the future to make their career. In other words, EXCON is also a very important platform for providing job opportunities for young or upcoming talents.

. What are the new technologies BKT is adapting currently?

at EXCON?

BKT always launches their new products at EXCON. It is an ideal platform as we can see the footfall or visitors are coming. Last year, we introduced rubber tracks and construction equipment. We launched a campaign for agricultural equipment. BKT is the first Indian company that designed, developed, and introduced in the Indian market a few years ago, or may be some 13–14 years ago, the first one to introduce all steel radial OTR tyres. Following that, we made numerous firsts in India and for the rubber track, and it is a source of pride for every BKTian to say, "Yes, we are the first to introduce an energised rubber track to the Indian market." This is meant for the construction equipment called a skid steer loader. India is not a big market, so far. I don’t know. I am sure a few more machines will come to India where we will be able to give

www.constructionmirror.com

Everyone is gone for AI and IT. BKT is also a part of AI and IT, and I think in the future, AI and IT will play a very big role in construction equipment also. Let it be manufacturing, R & D activities, sales, service, and communication, they will play a big role. They have already entered in a big way and will further expand.

Q. How many R&D centres do BKT have?

Our corporate centralized R&D centre is in Mumbai. Otherwise each and every plant or tire unit is having their own R&D. We do make our own molds at Dombivli.

Q. How has BKT’s journey been through the pandemic and challenges?

The biggest challenge was manpower. So, our management defined their own strategy and they took good care during the pandemic period to retain the manpower. By enlarging that policy or that strategy, we could retain them in a very large well and we could retain them in a very large manner.

Q

. How your company is supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat?

In the product which BKT is making in India right now, no other specific manufacturer is making the same right now, and in such a case, we are equally part of Atmanirbhar bharat. So, we have these machines in India and if anyone wants to buy these machines, they can easily get them from us. Tomorrow we can export it all over the world. Yes, we are connected to both.

Q

Q. How is BKT participating in CSR activities?

We are associated with many sectors like hospitals, girls' education, and Akshay Patra to a large extent.

Q. What are your plans for 2022 or upcoming

years?

With regards to development, every year we develop around 160+ new sizes year on year and we are going to continue it. Not only in construction or in mining, but also anywhere the tyre word is there, our development activities will be there and with regards to the launching of those products that will be done on platforms like EXCON & IME. Q. What is your experience at EXCON?

This was supposed to happen in Nov’21, but due to the pandemic it got shifted. The weather played a little bit of spoil sport, however, we managed to take up this challenge by adding some precautionary measures to keep our venue in perfect shape thereby ensuring the safety and satisfied visit of our customers, operational staff and other visitors. Further we ensured that all products displayed did not get affected with high wind velocity and heavy rains. Further after a gap of over 2 years it was a perfect platform for face to face interaction and exchange of ideas and views about current and upcoming projects in detail.

Q. Is there any new product launch and what

the pandemic and the challenges it has faced?

Yes, challenges have been many, since last almost two years right from the onset of the pandemic. We have challenges at various sites where accessibility for servicing the product was not up to the mark or as desired, but with the technology that we’ve brought in India, has helped us a lot. In short, the remote-control access to the product helped us to access to Ammann products and we were able to give them (customers) the services. We are continuously trying to see how we can give better services to our customers, even in pandemic we were trying to think out of box to cater to the needs of the customers and ensuring safety of our staff, which was very challenging as they were directly involved in delivering the services. I can proudly say that the work at all the sites did not get hampered much and every time we tried to convert our better to the best. In some of the sites we could see a dip in the project progress because of lot of the labour migration & scarcity of manpower, nevertheless, whichever sites we were handling, we were able to manage them even in these adverse conditions.

Q. How is your company supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat or any new idea AMMANN is working on?

We’ve been continuously working on bringing best practices both in products & services – a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Relook at our offerings, new technology that we have displayed aptly confirms our commitment to our Prime Minister’s ideology, & we proudly announce that products displayed in EXCON are Made in India and we are further working towards localising European technology by Indigenisation, which is a continuous process, thereby making our products more competitive and cost effective. Thus providing a better solution to modernising Indian Infrastructure especially roads which is great sign of economic development.

Ammann has worked tirelessly over the years to bring many new innovations to India. We have set a technology park within the EXCON exhibition area where we are exhibiting new technologies like waste plastic addition in batch mix as well as continuous plants, SMA (stone matrix asphalt), RAP (high recycling plants), Warm Mix, Cold mix, liquid additives, different burners working on LDO/FO moving on to LSHS and Gas (CNG/PNG and LPG), coal, wood fire and so on. All these innovations would help in bringing a better eco-friendly environment. Ammann India is in line with the Government initiative of adopting new technology for road construction like introduction of perpetual pavement, which is different as compared to the other standard conventional pavement. Besides this we’ve launched concrete plant in India as well, with a flexible capacity ranging from 30 cbm to 140 cbm. Ammann ValueTec 180 TPH asphalt batch mix plant displayed in EXCON has been pivotal in meeting demands for State highways as well as Super Expressway projects. This is the modern plant, and it carries all the innovation that is required for the road construction industry. The plant control room is on a microprocessor based system which works on real time thereby improves its production efficiency & covers all the facets including remote accessibility. The plant is operational on all fuels including gas and that’s one of the path breaking innovations that AMMANN has brought in India. AMMANN is a 150-year-old company with its core competence in plants and now offering other road construction equipment as well. Ammann India has set up two product ranges, AMMANN and Apollo products meeting all project segments like PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna), city roads, state highways, national highways, super expressways, port connectivity, and airports. With this I can say Ammann India offers one-stop solution to every road segment.

Q. How has AMMANN’s journey been through

Q. What are your plans for 2022 or upcoming

years?

AMMANN is trying to upskill the manpower. We have setup an AMMANN Academy where we train the operational team. We have different levels of training modules and also, we have setup an academy with a latest gadget with simulator where the people get hands on training on the system, whether it is a machine or a plant. AMMANN also signed a MOU with NHAI to upskill highway engineers. We are working very closely with CRRI & other state PWDs to get into modern techniques and developments both in materials like plastic addition, RAP with high recycling, SMA, CTSB, CTB, FDR & process like introduction of various fuel variants like LSHS, FO, Gas (CNG/PNG, LPG), Coal so that’s ongoing practice in Ammann Competence Centre thereby making Bharat Atamnribhar. Q. Kindly tell us the company’s background?

This company we started in 2007, In 2011 it got incorporated as a section 8 company that time it was section 25. So, it’s kind of NGO which is dedicated solely for the purpose of bridging the gap between what we have seen in academia and what is the industry that needs the kind of skilled and competency people so this institute is basically a skill and competency centre for building the talent in our available resources which are primarily low socio economy group of people to whom we are trying to build from a mechanical helper to the mechanics, technicians, and the operators. This also addressing a group of engineers which are diploma & degree qualified engineers. So, that they can become exceptionally good plant managers in future and that’s the whole concept of this institute.

vendors and customers?

The institute has developed with the 40 years plus experience of being a corporate person for 20 years and a dealer principle for Volvo for 20 years. During this 40 years of experience, I have been able to develop the courses which are job role courses, because otherwise education means either getting some degree or getting some qualification for a certain given prescribed formula, whereas the actual need in the industry is people who have practical experience on the subject matter, which is called skills. As a result, we designed the courses to address the needs of a mechanical helper, mechanic, technician, and engineer. So, each course is designed for that, and the new course which we are introducing now is with the simulation technique. We’ve invested in a simulator where we can have 8 different kinds of machines taught to become good operators, so that’s how the courses are developed and this is how the gap is bridged between academia from where the boys come, like ITI and diploma, and what the industry actually needs.

Q

. How is your institute supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat?

Ever since I started this institute, this institute has given 500+ students to this industry, and I am extremely happy to say that SVENSKA Institute boys are working across the country and across the brand. So, when you try to make Atmanirbhar, that can only happen if we focus only on skill and competency development rather than fundamental education. And that’s what the institute is doing. We are making them skilful so that they become more employable.

Q. How has been your journey during the pandemic and after the lockdown?

All institutes across the country, even the small kinder

www.constructionmirror.com

Q

. What are the new technology your institute is adapting?

There was a technology which we brought in with the help of a Canadian company. There were many boys who came to us from basic learning and wanted to do advanced courses because they had a little more time on hand. They were forced to stay back at home and work a little. We brought in a concept of animation technique to learn the advanced techniques of hydraulic and electrical. We tied up with the Canadian company and gave those courses to the boys. We are changing with time by bringing more technology into the learning process.

Q. What Footfall you’ve got from last few days?

Until yesterday, we were a little concerned about what was going to happen because we are in Hall 4 and this is very far from the other halls. But yes, last day may be because of the weather, we had a big footfall here and believe me, this message has gone to most of the people, both OEM’s as well as customers and manufacturers. We are getting most of the enquiries from the manufacturers. They are manufacturing machines but they are forced to give service, and to give service, they all have a problem of manpower. We are looking forward to doing good business and one good thing I must say is that customers who visited this stall have actually signed up for a certain number of students they want from this institute.

w w w. s v e n s k a i n s t i t u t e . c o m

Q. How your institute is bridging the gap between

garden children, were forced to go through Zoom and online teaching. Obviously we adapted to the new system or new normal as I would like to say that gave us great learning, but one good thing that happened was that this institute never stopped during the pandemic. Our courses were going on, though the number was less and definitely that was a big challenge, but we did have a few batches rolled out between 20 and 21. So, both the years we did small-small batches but we did it online, and after doing it online, the most important part of this institute is practical knowledge. We put the boys for practical knowledge on the sites because all the sites were working but the offices were closed. So, we were able to tie up with certain good contractors or friends whom I have had for 40 years. We were able to put the boys for training on the practical sites. The pandemic did affect us in numbers, but it didn’t affect our teaching and learning.

Q

. Is there any message you want to convey to your customer?

I think the single message that I can give to my customers is that if they want to become successful in their life, if they want to really break the money that they invested in machinery and the contracts that they took, they should focus on none other than human resources. CM

This way we will not only give better product to customers with right time penetration but also improve our market share in Tandem category. This is all about compactors as Tyagi said. Yes, we have ICS (Intelligent Compaction System), which is being used in Soil compactors we have already introduced ICS in our 5511 in white line soil compactor with the ICS system, we can provide customers with proper compaction clarity without a skilled operator, you just need to set the desired compaction parameter in ICS (with required Compaction, Density, Distance) and then you can plan the compaction in complete bed as per set parameter with same amplitude and frequency. There is no need to check the density again and again this way we will save time and improve productivity and operation can be managed with non-skilled operator. He added. CM

Mr. Jalaj Gupta CV Business Head

Mahindra Construction Equipment

In an exceptional and short conversation with Mr. Jalaj Gupta, CV Business Head, Mahindra Construction Equipment, and knowing more about the insights of Mahindra itself, footfall, product launch, and adapting to new technology…

About Mahindra

Mahindra Construction Equipment is a brand under the growing Global federation of companies. The Group has a strong global presence across 20 key industries including mobility, rural prosperity, IT, Financial services, clean energy, defense, hospitality, real estate and retail amongst many others. With “Rise” as its governing spirit and backed by its vast experience manufacturing top notch agriculture equipment and utility vehicles through the decades, have boldly ventured into the Construction Equipment manufacturing industry. Mahindra Construction Equipment in its pursuit of excellence to help the common man “Rise”, has come up with products that implement breakthrough technology in its machines. State-Of-The-Art technology and fully automatic robotic welding units are used to create superior products with an impeccable finish. Every single product goes through stringent and thorough quality check measures with implementation of Advanced NOVA-C before being rolled out.

Product Launch

We unveiled our product G-75 smart yesterday, so this particular product is specifically targeted for rural roads. Rural roads account for 48% of all roads in the country, and this product is a category creator for small subcontractors who were previously using a tractor grader, which is more of a JUGAAD technology. Instead of that now, they will be able to use a machine which is specifically suited for doing rural roads, so in that sense, this machine is useful. We have CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

73

also displayed our backhoe range and other grading ranges. On the right hand side, we have displayed the truck and bus range, transit mixture, and two tippers, etc.

Footfall expectations

The excitement of the various vendors, competitors, and customers is very high. Even yesterday, which was the first day, there were many customers and our dealers, and one of the reasons is that this exhibition is now happening after 3 years of a pandemic opening up, so there's a lot of excitement that people have and they want to go and physically see the machines.

Technology

Yes, with every BS4 machine that we are selling, there is something called an iMAXX device that we give away along with the machines. An iMAXX device is essentially a telematics device, but it does work much beyond a telematics device. For example, if he/she is the owner and your machine is operating in Telangana, just by using their mobile or laptop, you will get to know if there’s a fuel threat which has happened to your machine, even if your machine has crossed a particular geofencing that it was supposed to operate in a particular area but it has gone outside of that particular area. It can also give you preventive alerts that your machine is not due for service. So, the basic aim of the iMAXX Telematics device is to improve the productivity of the particular machine, and from that perspective, it is one of the technologies we are focusing on. CM

Mr. Manoj Kumar Managing Director

Armix Construction Machinery Pvt. Ltd.

In conversation with Mr. Manoj Kumar, Managing Director, Armix Construction Machinery Pvt. Ltd., about experience, footfall, product launch, adapting to new technology, and conveying a message to their customers… Starting with experiencing the big fat fair, Armix Construction Machinery Pvt. Ltd. Managing Director, Manoj Kumar said “The experience was pretty good and the footfall was very high. Apart from that, people are looking forward to it because in the last 2-3 years there have been no trade shows. Otherwise, the exhibition is going well. I think around 2000 people a day visited our stall in the first two days. We were expecting much lower, but in that way, footfall is good. The market is looking for something because due to the pandemic and the war situation, the market was a little bit down. But on the other hand, it is giving a positive response (an advantage to Indian manufacturers) and the projects have been delayed, and now everyone wants to complete them, whether they are related to smart city, infrastructure, or corridor projects.” Moving forward to product launch he added, “Our new self-loading mobile truck mixer will be available in two variants: 2 cbm and 4 cbm capacity. Designed with advanced features, it will also be affordable. We had done extensive market research and taken feedback from our customers to come up with the best solution for fast developing markets like India, the Middle East, and Africa. The mobile truck has a 4-wheel drive system integrated into a rigid chassis frame. Its drum, tyres, and automatic weighing scale system will give low fuel consumption and cycle time. Optional items include GPS, telematics, cooler, high pressure water cleaning system, and admixture system. We are now launching our plantery mixer (3000 litre capacity), followed CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

by a mobile block machine, which will be ready in August. These are things like affordable solutions where we are going to work with dealers more. That will be generating and adding up value to related industries." On adapting new technology and talking about Armix, Kumar said, “In terms of technology, we collaborate with worldclass companies from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy. All of them combined, we’ve done R & D during the pandemic time. Everyone was working from home. We utilised the time to come up with new R & D things, new product launches, and the latest technology (controlling systems so that we are able to offer 24*7 services), and even OEM components. We are using international products so that they can solve problems from anywhere because most of our products are going to the Middle East. Armix Construction Machinery Pvt Ltd, formerly known as Forest Press Machineries, is a company founded by a group of technocrats. For the Indian construction and concrete industries, we manufacture high-quality European technology machines. We want to bring global technology and quality to the Indian market.” “Armix is able to give the best services because we are using OEM international components and only in connectivity, so we are the most trustworthy in machine and service quality. Everyone can see this here at our stall, and I think we have one of the largest footfalls in the hall for trade shows,” he said. CM

Overview of EXCON

This exhibition should have happened in the month of November or December 2021, but because of the pandemic it got postponed. Now we are in May. So, for practically for the last two and a half years, due to pandemic, we were unable to get together or even be able to meet the customers freely. Therefore, we were all looking forward to this exhibition. In fact, we conducted many Road shows for the Excon, and we could find similar enthusiasm from our customers who were wanting to come out meet people and participate in exhibition. We are expecting a lot of people to come for the exhibition, I hope that, the weather will support us.

Product launch

We’ve exhibited many new things in this exhibition. On compactors, We have our 3ton mini-tandem rollers, which is a completely new product. Then we have our existing products 9T Tandem and 11 T Soil compactor with some new features including compacto meter. Then we Exhibited our curb paver, mechanical paver, and sensor paver. On Asphalt Plant side we have RAH60 drum, for adding 60% of recycled Asphalt, which can be retrofitted with our existing Asphalt plants. In fact, AMMANN, has got the technology where we can use 100 percent of recycled material, many of which are installed in Europe. The first RAH 60 attachments have already been supplied and it is under commission at this moment. Then we have an automatic lubrication system, which unlike the conventional auto lubrication system, has no lubrication tubes running around the plant. It is directly mounted on the lubricating points. The customer has to only change the cartridge once in 6 months. www.constructionmirror.com CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

We've our new concrete plant, displayed here. The is a German design plant. The famous German Concrete equipment manufacturing company ELBA from Germany, was acquired by AMMANN about 6-7 years ago. Surprisingly, though it is raining heavily, lot of customers are coming. Yesterday, the outdoor exhibition was closed, but we still were extremely busy with customers.

Atmanirbhar Bharat

All the products are manufactured in India. At one time we were importing quite a bit from Switzerland and Europe. Now the import content is quite low. Indigenisation is a continuous process in order to bring down the cost.

R&D Centre

We have only one R&D Centre in India, which is attached to our factory in Mehsana.

Message

I would like to request all our customers to visit our state-ofthe-art facility in Mehsana. We fabricate practically everything inhouse. CM

Mr. P V Ramdev Managing Director

Everest engineering equipment pvt. Ltd.

We’re happy to see that the COVID period is closed and the markets are warming up very well: Mr. P V Ramdev, Managing Director, Everest engineering equipment pvt. Ltd. In an enlightening brief about the R & D Centre, footfall, product launch, adapting to new technology, plans, and conveying a message to their customers…

R&D Centre

New Technologies

Everest engineering started this R & D Centre along with our head office in Navi Mumbai to start the production of high quality passenger hoists in India and to sell them in India. We’ve also eyed selling these products globally.

In fact, we’ve already launched hoist with artificial intelligence, which will take care of the entire operation, safety and everything, and that was launched in the year 2016 itself. The cost of the machines is not acceptable to the Indian customer. That is why it is not yet sold in India, which is already with us for the last 6-7 years.

Product launch We've got our passenger hoist, which is made with German mechanisms as well as German inverters, and VLC’s with a long cage of 3.6 metres that we are launching today. One more product we are launching today is the CNC stirrup bender, which will bend the rebars at a high speed, which is highly required for any infrastructure and construction company in India.

Footfall According to my idea and market studies, we expect around 40 to 50,000 people will be visiting this year's EXCON. We also anticipate that 40 to 55 percent of those who visit our stall will buy something. Everest engineering is already established in India and has many new products to launch.

CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

80

Plans for upcoming years We are planning to start the production by the end of 2023 for the Indian market. This high quality passenger hoist will be produced near Mumbai and sold all over India with an eye to going globally.

Message We’re happy to see that the COVID period is closed and the markets are warming up very well. We are getting a lot of orders from all over India. We were able to serve the entire customer base to their satisfaction, and we hope to continue the same. We expect the same from customers also. CM

Top Ways to Achieve Adequate Soil Health for High Crop Yielding

G u e s t A r t ic l e

Soil is rightfully the most critical constituent of the earth’s biosphere. For any country, good soil health is a key indicator of its long-term ecosystem sustainability. There is a multiplicity of scientifically proven benefits that can be attributed to good soil health. Improvement in land management, sustainable crop production, and enhanced quality of agro landscape are only a few of the many perks that decent quality soil entails. Time and again, there have been numerous revelations in the agricultural space expediting multiple approaches to optimal soil health. The appropriate way, however, is to combine certain new generational techniques like high-tech tilling, and some timeless classical practices like crop rotation. Let’s look at some interesting ways to attain a prolific soil structure:

1. Composting

Compost, or may we call it “nature’s best fertiliser”? Because it contains numerous vital nutrients for plant development, it is frequently used as a fertiliser. The best thing about composting is that it is imperative to texture-enhancement, moisture retention, and cutting back on the use of synthetic and harmful fertilisers. Concentrating on soil replenishment is paramount to achieving great soil health. And what better and inexpensive way to do that than composting!

2. Crop rotation

Crop rotation is a smart way to increase the process of the soil while decreasing erosion. Intercropping breaks pest and disease cycles and enhances soil condition by boosting biomass from various crops' root systems and stimulating agricultural biodiversity. Every crop has a different nutrient requirement. While some may derive nutrients from deeper soil layers, the case may not be the same for others. Crop rotation helps in effective nutrient Management by plants, thus supplying more organic matter. Devising an adequate rotation sequence will significantly boost soil health and stabilise soil particles.

3. Avoiding chemical compounds

Irrespective of your soil type and texture, using chemicals on your land is one guaranteed way of risking your soil health. Whether you’re using herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, weed killers or fungicides, some of these may be poisonous to your soil life in the long run and will end up tainting its fertility. Additionally, avoiding chemicals facilitates the growth of good microbes and bacteria that may have taken abode in your soil.

4. Good Tillage Habits

Tilling, also referred to as ploughing, can be a game-changer for achieving optimal soil health. While

CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

94

June 2022

some farmers may carry on this practice all year round, the right time for tilling is just when the first rains have fallen. Tilling is primarily done to loosen and eventually aerate the soil, so it makes the planting of crops easier. It is also a great way of combining harvest residue, organic material, and nutrients evenly into the soil. Right tillage habits can go a long way in ensuring a smooth and steady farming process, from sowing to harvesting. mechanical removal of the weed, drying up the soil before seeding, as well as exposing the crumbled pieces of soil to smoothen the land. Usually, if you're tilling a small area of land, it can be done using mechanical equipment but if there's a large farm to plough, you might want to check out a range of good & effective Power tillers. Recognizing the need of propagating good tillage habit amongst Indian farmers, Honda India Power Products Ltd. has recently launched a compact, affordable, yet powerful Tiller : FQ650 (4.1kW/5.5hp) further strengthening its product range already having FJ500 (3.6kW/4.8hp) ,F300(1.49kW/2hp). Farmers require a compact, robust, and cost-effective solution for their routine farming operations like Land preparation & De-weeding. Honda Tillers deliver unparalleled fuel efficiency along with optimal performance and durability, while being lightest in their class. Using these proven and reliable Honda Tillers will not only simplify your farm operation but also help you achieve better farm productivity. Their cutting edge 4-stroke technology is beneficial in providing new-age solutions with sustainable development, thus bringing out the best of soil-machine-human interaction.

5. Plant Cover Crops

In the agro ecosystem, the concept of cover crops is practised extensively. These are grown with the idea to cover the soil albeit harvesting the crop. Putting a good farm strategy in place will render you an action plan for every season and climate. Cultivating grain grasses like oats and barley in spring, hard legumes like peas amidst winter but prior to summer, and warm legumes like soybeans before the onset of fall are amazing ways to accelerate soil fertility. Healthy and well-maintained soil is the cornerstone of profitable and sustainable agricultural growth. Achieving soil fertility is the easiest way to produce abundant and high-quality crops, and nurture plant growth to elevate the process of agricultural crop production. Make these five fool proof tips your mantra in getting one step closer to a replenished, desirable land. Following these, with just the minimal yet mindful input, you can increase your farm productivity and take your farming game a notch higher! CM
