White School Corporation moved all grades to Monon.

Being a historic building, the Honey Creek Township trustee purchased the former elementary school. The gymnasium is used and rented for community events such as youth basketball, volleyball, weddings, receptions, reunions and birthday parties. The addition of a quality sound system will be a great benefit to this community center.

The Remington Parks Department is earmarking Operation Round Up funds to assist in renovating bathrooms in park shelters. The project will include replacing bathroom partitions that are currently made of plywood. Local families and out-of-town visitors enjoy this lovely park.

West Central Music Boosters are boosting their band program by participating in marching band competitions. The Operation Round Up funds received will assist in purchasing new band uniforms for students.

In September 2022, the West Central band competed in marching band competitions for the first time in over 10 years. The marching band students received a silver award and were close to receiving a gold. New uniforms will give students a great boost toward continued success in rebuilding their marching band program.

The Freedom Mission Inc. (DBA C.C. Lifeline Connection) received a $750 grant to assist in purchasing security cameras. Freedom Mission Inc. is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that offers an established recovery program and professional life coaching service in Delphi.

The organization hopes to purchase three additional security cameras and support equipment to provide adequate safety precautions for clients, volunteers and staff.

Junior Achievement (JA) of White County and Junior Achievement of Carroll County each received $750 grants for local educational programs. Organizers estimate that 75 students in White County will benefit from the JA program, and over 100 students will be served through Carroll County JA.

Impact studies show that JA helps provide youth with a positive outlook toward their future while increasing volunteerism as they enter adulthood.

The Monon Town and Township Public Library received $475 in grant funds to assist in updating and purchasing materials in Spanish for the library to accommodate the growing Hispanic community in that area.

In the 2021 census, statistics revealed that 48.9% of the Monon population is Hispanic, with Spanish being their native language or their first spoken language. Most of those households have school-aged children.

“We are slowly collecting additional Spanish materials to bring in more families through our offered library clubs or classes,” wrote Edith Montoya, library assistant clerk. “We believe learning starts at home, and we would like to help those parents better succeed in our community.”

Carroll After Prom Committee and Frontier After Prom Committee each received a $200 grant. These committees work to provide a safe space for students to gather following their respective proms.
