The Getaway
When you’re considering where to assemble your sorority sisters, whisking away the bridal party for a bachelorette weekend, or simply wanting to spend some overdue free time with your favorite girlfriends, the Golden Isles has everything you need. Obviously, prioritize brunch and beach time, but there’s so much more to do! Rent and ride bikes or scooters around the island. Take a kayak or paddleboard tour. Set up a little friendly tennis match or go hit some balls on the range. Spend the day being pampered at Island Day Spa. Arrange an afternoon tea or take advantage of a cooking class at Golden Isles Olive Oil. Plan a leisurely Happy Hour tasting tapas and pairing wines at Georgia Sea Grill. Dance the night away to some of the fantastic live music offered around town. Have a favorite local band? See if and where they’re playing that night by checking the “I’m With the Band” listings on the EIL website. While you’re there, take a look at our events calendar to see if there are any art, craft, or antique shows happening in the Village, community theatre productions, or any other of the myriad activities that take place throughout the year. If you want to plan in advance, we have some amazing charity events that happen annually like Wine, Women & Shoes benefiting Hospice of the Golden Isles, Cassina Garden Club’s spring Garden Walk, the CASA Fashion Show & Luncheon, and Christ Church Frederica’s Tour of Homes that are worth planning a weekend around!
Make your girls a special swag bag to celebrate your time together that includes beach essential and some cute personalized items or keepsakes that will remind them of their time here. Pictured are some ideas: Day Drinking tumbler from Tonya’s Treasures, striped beach towel from Cricket Shop, Jimmy Choo sunglasses from Millican Eye Care; hat with interchangeable bow from Ronne’s on Market Street; and handcrafted jewelry from Golden Isles Bracelet Company’s St. Simons Signature collection.

If you need a special gift for your groomsmen or the men in your family, stop in Bullington on St. Simons Island. In addition to men’s apparel, they carry an extensive selection of fine leather luggage, accessories, and other items with “manly” appeal like whisky decanters, cigar cutter, and wicker creel (pictured on opposite page).
Activities for guys are plentiful here too, fellas, so gather the groomsmen or rally the college chums. One of our main attractions here is golf. Not only is St. Simons Island home to the RSM Classic PGA Tour event hosted by our local golf legend, Davis Love III each November, the Golden Isles boasts some very fine golf courses on which to play year-round. In addition to the better-known courses on Sea Island and St. Simons Island, Brunswick Country Club features a course that is an original 1938 Donald Ross design, and Jekyll Island offers play on four different courses. Tee ‘em up!
Another popular activity is fishing. Whether you’re looking for an offshore or inshore charter, there are numerous options available. Kayak fishing and tours are perfect for getting out in the marshes and rivers. Even if you’re not catching anything, the wildlife and the surroundings make it worth the trip. We recommend keeping a camera handy and having a waterproof protector for your phone.
If you’re here during football season, you’ll find big screens, beer, and avid Bulldawg fans just about everywhere. It’s the best time for oyster roasts too! And if you love oysters, we recommend stopping by Catch 228 in Redfern Village on game days or just for happy hour specials. If a big shindig is up your alley, make plans to attend the St. Simons Land Trust’s annual Oyster Roast at Gascoigne Bluff with some buddies. It’s always a great time with lots of fabulous food!
