MEMORIAL DAY ON ST. SIMONS ISLAND IS A TRULY SPECIAL OCCASION. The Rotary Club of St. Simons Island has been hosting the Taps at Twilight program for more than three decades. This service of remembrance honors our nation’s fallen heroes and pays tribute to all those who serve. The program included patriotic music and a keynote address from Lt. Col. Steve Bolton, Hunter Army Airfield Commander. It’s heartwarming to see so many veterans in attendance and the large crowd that comes out to support them. This tradition makes you proud to be a part of this community and to be an American.

THESE GIRLS AND GUYS STARTED THEIR DAY EARLY ON BLYTHE ISLAND FOR THE 2022 GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K TRAIL RUN. Girls on the Run of the Golden Isles is a wonderful program that strives to create a fun and safe space for young girls to find the connection between physical activity and mental health. This annual run celebrates all of the growth and accomplishments of the girls who participated during the season.

OUR HOME PORT OF BRUNSWICK HAS THE OLDEST BLESSING OF THE FLEET TRADITION IN THE NATION. This May marked the 84th annual occurrence of the ceremony and the festivities that surround it at Mary Ross Waterfront Park. This year’s fun included the 2nd Annual Southeast Georgia Shrimp Standoff cooking competition, live music, arts and craft vendors, and more. If you missed it, come out next year!

THE COASTAL GEORGIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S LITTLE LIGHT MUSIC SUMMER OUTDOOR CONCERT SERIES GOT OFF TO A STELLAR START WITH A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE BY THE TAMS. THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, AND THE LIGHTHOUSE LAWN WAS

PACKED WITH CONCERTGOERS OF ALL AGES. This is the best “block party” on the island, so don’t miss your chance to join the fun when Mainstream Band brings the party on July 10! Advance tickets can be purchased at coastalgeorgiahistory.org.

GOLDEN ISLES ARTS & HUMANITIES HOSTED A CONCERT BY GOLDEN ISLES SUPER SAX MAN MICHAEL HULETT IN NEPTUNE PARK

TO KICK OFF THE SUMMER. Michael was joined by special guest vocalist Lauren Swanson who wowed the crowd with her singing. GIAHA’s next planned concert in the park is on August 28, when you’re invited to wrap up the summer with Still Standing: A Tribute to Elton John, an exciting show that honors the star performer’s legacy and amazing music. SUMMER WAS WELCOMED EARLY WITH THE FESTIVE FUNDRAISER STARGAZING LOW COUNTRY BOIL AT VILLAGE CREEK LANDING. Guests enjoyed delicious coastal fare from Mr. Shuck’s Seafood, danced to 80s tunes from Squirt Gun, and crowned a new crazy pants king. WINDSWEPT KEY WEST WAS THE THEME OF CABARET 2022 BENEFITING THE COASTAL SYMPHONY OF GEORGIA. After a blissful yet breezy cocktail hour at The King and Prince Beach & Tennis Resort, Leo Dean kicked off dinner by having attendees stand for the national anthem: “Margaritaville” to everyone’s amusement. The breeze turned into a fierce ocean gale braved by guests who moved inside for dessert and the live auction. Despite Mother Nature’s moody interference, it was a lovely event. 1. THE JEKYLL ISLAND ART ASSOCIATION RECENTLY HOSTED AN OPENING RECEPTION FOR “A MODEST PEACE,” AN EXHIBITION OF CERAMICS BY HANNAH ROBERTS AND PAINTINGS BY CULLEN PECK. ATTENDEES INCLUDING FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF ALL AGES CAME OUT TO GOODYEAR COTTAGE TO SUPPORT THE ARTISTS AND SEE THEIR CREATIVE WORKS ON THIS GORGEOUS AFTERNOON.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF GLYNN RECENTLY HOSTED A SCHOOL OF ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER AT MARY ROSS

WATERFRONT PARK. Attendees enjoyed the musical stylings of four eclectic groups from Florida: Side Hustle The Band, Folk Is People, The Band Pressure, and Let’s Ride Brass Band. Local businesses and regional food trucks also participated as vendors and sponsors. Hopefully, they’ll bring back this kind of fun again next year!

WHAT A DERBY DAY IT WAS! At Churchill Downs, Rich Strike pulled off the biggest upset in the history of the Kentucky Derby for an incredible win and the jubilation was contagious at Sea Island’s Retreat Clubhouse. Frederica Academy’s signature fundraiser was well-attended by dapperly attired gents and ladies in their feathered fascinators and hats. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’LL SEE AT FIRST FRIDAY IN DOWNTOWN BRUNSWICK! In addition to the usual live music, folks were treated to a dance-off between the City of Brunswick Fire and Police Departments in May, and a sneak peek performance number from Disney’s High School Musical, Jr. by members of The Golden Isles Penguin Project in June. June also saw the opening of the Georgia Artists with Disabilities show at The Ritz and the Coastal Photographers Guild’s Big Photo Show Too! exhibit in the Creative Frameworks Gallery. The Big Photo Show judged CPG exhibit will be on display at SoGlo Gallery in July.
