SHINE UP YOUR STUDEBAKER

Classic cars from all over Southeast Georgia be vying for bragging rights in the 8th Annual “Ophelia’s Classic Car Challenge.” Presented by Friends of Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation and Classic Coastal Cruisers on Saturday, October 16 at the state historic site from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Come see the cars and vote for your favorite. Awards will be presented to the Most Original, People’s Choice, and 1st to 5th Place winners. All types of vehicles are welcome. $20 vehicle entry fee includes park fee and catered BBQ lunch from Mudcat Charlie’s. General admission tickets: $8 adults, $5 students. Ophelia Dent’s newly-preserved 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass (pictured in this 2017 plein air painting by George Netherton) will be showcased. Proceeds benefit Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation. LET THE WATER FLOW

This is the theme of the 2021 Fête for Haiti, the annual fundraiser to support St. William’s twin parish in Haiti. Presented by Helping Hugs, Inc., the October 23rd event features an outstanding meal catered by Tom Delaney, live and silent auctions. Money raised will finance medical care, infrastructure projects, education, and, most importantly, clean water. As a source of good health and the foundation of community development, clean water is a priority. If people have an immediate source of water, they no longer have to carry it long distances, leaving them free to work or go to school instead. Generous donors of Helping Hugs have enabled the digging of the first well in 2021. A second well is in the planning stages. Your participation in the fundraiser is invited and greatly appreciated. Tickets can be purchased after weekend masses at St. William and at helpinghugsinc.org.
