T
he history of Charlotte, North Carolina dates back to colonial times. It was first incorporated during the Revolutionary War and promptly named after England’s King George III’s wife. Hence the city’s second moniker, the Queen City. In addition to being the largest city in the state, Charlotte occupies an area in the Piedmont region that has driven it to prominence in multiple avenues. This was the site of the first major gold rush in the United States prompting the formation of the original US Mint. During the Civil War it became a major railway hub due to its centralized proximity to other major southern cities. Following the war and entering the nation’s Reconstruction years, Charlotte rebuilt itself as the premier outpost for the cotton trade and foremost player in the textile industry. Now entering the third decade of the 21st century, Charlotte has again redefined itself by becoming the fastest growing banking hub in America.
With the city’s population increasing by nearly 25% in the past decade it has become the third fastest growing major city in the country. Charlotte’s boom is mainly due to its status as the nation’s second largest banking hub, trailing only New York City. With an ever expanding skyline and the ceaseless opening of private businesses, it’s no secret why this city is host to so many cultural affairs. As home to teams in the NFL, NBA, AAA MLB, and hosting two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup races, the city has become a highly desirable venue for avid sports fans and a sought after commercial market for major investors. MASERATI MY21 GHIBLI, QUATTROPORTE AND LEVANTE
M
aserati renews the entire range with the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante MY21. Elegant, noninvasive restyling refreshes the look of the two sedans (Ghibli and Quattroporte) and the Maserati of SUVs, the Levante, while there is a substantial upgrade to the multimedia system in terms of both appearance and technology. The aim of the MY21 is to give the entire Maserati range a unified identity, by creating a common language for Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante. Maserati Ghibli Ghibli MY21 has an updated new front grille that will make it even more elegant and unmistakable. This new front grille is characterized by a distinctive feature: the Maserati tuning fork. In fact, the updated front grille is based on this shape, and comes in chrome in the GranLusso trim and in even more aggressive, sportier Piano Black in the GranSport trim. Like the other cars in the Trident Brand’s range, Ghibli also transforms its rear look, with the development of a new light cluster with a style known as boomerang design, inspired by many historic Maserati models and typical of the Brand’s genetic identity. It is a distinctive feature of all MY21 cars and appears on all Ghibli MY21 trims. To emphasize the boomerang shape, the clusters have been produced with a state-of-the-art 3K injection moulding technology, thanks to which the unit has been given a three-color lens: black around the edge, red in the middle and clear in the bottom section. The light cluster is produced in 2 versions: black for the attractive “Black pack” trims and lighter for the more refined GranLusso trims, achieved by just varying the color of the internal upper surround. There is no change in the differentiation between GranLusso and GranSport with regard to all other details. Ghibli GranLusso stands out for its enhanced exterior finish. As in previous trims, it is created using exclusive materials and with special features in the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship. Externally, alongside the Adaptive Full LED headlights, the trim is distinguished for the chrome inserts on the front bumper, the GranLusso badge at the base of the front wing, the body-color side skirts, the black brake calipers and the 19-inch Poseidone alloy wheels. Externally, on the other hand, the GranSport features Adaptive Full LED headlights and is also recognizable for the Piano Black inserts on the front bumper, the GranSport badge on the front wing, body-color side skirts, red brake calipers and, last but not least, the 20-inch Urano polished alloy wheels.
Maserati Quattroporte The Maserati flagship, the Quattroporte, is also updated with a modified front grille, with the same design ingredient as on the Ghibli: the tuning fork. On the Quattroporte, again, the front grille comes in chrome for the GranLusso trim and Piano Black for GranSport. At the rear, Quattroporte also adopts the new boomerang design light cluster in all trims, with the same characteristics as described for Ghibli. The distinguishing features of the GranLusso and GranSport trims are unchanged from the previous models. One of the identifying details of the GranLusso trim is its front lower fascia design, featuring an elegant floatingbridge element and a very understated splitter, and rounded off with a chrome bumper finish and bodycolor bumper profiles. The profile incorporates side skirts, while on the rear the look is even cleaner, characterized by a retroreflector beautifully integrated in the car’s line and the body-colored spoiler. The Quattroporte GranSport features center and side air intakes with dedicated design, which improves the cooling function while showcasing an aggressive front area. The bumper’s lower fascia is linked to the grille with aerodynamicinspired splits. The back is characterized by a striking composition of the central panel and the two cut outs at the outside edges that focus attention on the exhausts. A Piano Black spoiler completes the rear view.
Maserati Levante The design concept of the Levante combines coupé lines with interior space for five people and exceptional aerodynamic efficiency. “The Maserati of SUVs” is instantly recognizable from a distance, thanks to its imposing grille, which was inspired by the sensational Alfieri concept, but also pays homage to historic Maserati cars like the Tipo 60 Birdcage. With MY21, Levante also updates its front to feature the innovative front grille with tuning fork design. This front grille comes in chrome for the GranLusso trim and Piano Black for the GranSport. Like the sedans, Levante MY21 will also be equipped with the new boomerang design rear light clusters, as described for Ghibli and Quattroporte. A new style that refreshes the Levante’s look very effectively. The existing differences between the various trims remain unchanged for MY21. On the GranSport trim the side air intakes in the lower fascia have a more aggressive design, defined by two aerodynamic wings that give a sense of further stability, visually “pushing” the weight of the car’s nose towards the massive front wheels. The side bezel blades and the splitter are styled to improve the airflow distribution. The wider, more muscular rear end has a sharper horizontal element and a body-color lower extractor embracing the four exhaust tips.

Becker’s lengthy and highly impressive client list includes some of the most accomplished personalities in Pro-Football. Starting with the GOAT, 7 time NFL Superbowl winner, Tom Brady. Brady had Becker stretch his new Cadillac Escalade ESV 20”, with rear doors lengthened 10” for ease of entry and exit. Upgraded with ultra-comfortable custom VIP seating similar to top level private aircraft, it included two large, aviation-style adjustable folding tables, large LCD flat screens, a mobile office computer, a high tech internet router, a high fidelity 7.1 audio system and electric window blinds all controlled by a Crestron automation system. “I took pride in picking out all the customizations of the ESV; from the trim of the seats to the color of the rug. With such limited time in my busy schedule the ESV gave me those extra minutes to study my playbook, make phone calls and be with my family,” Brady said.
When Philip Rivers learned he would have to commute from his San Diego home to the now LA Chargers’ Costa Mesa facility, he reached out to Becker to create an SUV that was what the Chargers starting quarterback described as the “Best QB room ever!”. “There may be some days,” Rivers said. “Where we’re hoping to get in a little traffic because we have more work to do!”

GATEWAY BRONCO THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME
“S
ometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.” When it came to restoring to his grandfather’s classic Ford Bronco, Phil Falconer will tell you his heart has always had perfect 20/20 vision. “It wasn’t some singular moment or mid-life crisis or anything like that,” Falconer shares. “For me, it really was a 25-year dream. Something I knew I just needed to do.” Growing up, Falconer had vivid memories of his grandfather’s 1969 Ford Bronco. “Family has always had a pretty special place in my life. My grandpa, that Bronco – they were both just larger than life.” “That Bronco”, which Falconer dubbed “Gramp’s ‘69” out of respect for the vehicle’s original owner and the year of its production, also holds a special place with the team at Gateway Bronco. Seth Burgett, CEO and Founder of Gateway Bronco immediately felt a connection. “When Phil contacted us and shared the story behind his Bronco, I told our team, ‘We have to make happen.’ Family is everything and these heirloom projects are a big reason our company exists today.” Now operating within a 60,000 sq. ft. facility just off historic Route 66 in southern IL, Gateway Bronco painstakingly breathes new life into these Bronco legends, creating new memories for new generations. “My brothers and I went around on it for a bit.” Falconer recounts in telling how Gramp’s ’69 ended up in his garage. “I had a green 1969 Dodge Dart that was in pretty good shape, and asked my brother, ‘If I give you everything I can get for selling the Dart, would you sell me grandpa’s Bronco?’” A deal was struck and the journey of a lifetime began. Calling Gramp’s ‘69 a family affair would be an understatement. After finally acquiring the vehicle, Falconer enlisted help from his brothers and nephews to pull donor parts from another family vehicle. Today under Gramp’s ‘69’s hood sits a 351 Windsor small block engine and transmission, originally parted from the family’s 1970 Ford Country Sedan. “My brother and nephews actually helped tow that engine out to Gateway Bronco after it sat in our shed for 30 years. When we finally got to the shop, the machinist asked if we had gotten the engine from the bottom of a lake!”
Burgett understands the importance of family as well. As a 12-year-old, Seth started a small engine repair shop in his family’s shed, sparking an interest in mechanical engineering and fueling his entrepreneurial spirit. “Growing up in a two-teacher household, we didn’t have a lot of money. What we had was time, time we spent as a family building things around the house each summer. So, I understand the deep emotional connections these projects, especially ones tied to an heirloom automobile, can create.” Falconer eventually approached Gateway Bronco in early 2017. “Finding a partner that not only appreciated the story behind my Bronco but could restore this vehicle beyond its original glory and performance was everything to me. The team at Gateway Bronco has been with me every step of the way.” Bringing this time capsule back to life first meant resurrecting the vehicle’s rusted body. All total, over 50% of the vehicles’ sheet metal would need to be handcrafted and replaced outright. As body work was completed, the team began rebuilding the family’s repurposed 351 Windsor engine, significantly increasing the vehicle’s horsepower. By the time it thundered out of the Gateway Bronco facility, Gramp’s ’69 would undergo an almost 100% makeover, complete with new Bilstein suspension, Wildwood brakes and premium Bluetooth audio system. As
part of its makeover Gramp’s ’69 also made a stop in Gateway Bronco’s inhouse paint booth, where it received a custom application of premium PPG paint, creating a classic, head-turning Brittany Blue piece of art on wheels. CEO Burgett even got in on the action. “These heirloom projects truly strike a chord with me. I worked my way through college painting cars, so it’s a thrill to jump back in the paint booth and restore these vehicles to their original beauty.” The time, care and attention the team at Gateway Bronco contributed wasn’t lost on Falconer: “This vehicle has been in my family for 50 years. To have it where it is today, to have my mom and dad, my entire family see it restored and winning awards is just so fulfilling. It truly is a dream come true.” As the world’s first approved manufacturer of the original Ford Bronco, Gateway Bronco has quickly established itself by setting the world record for any Ford Bronco sold at auction at the 2019 Scottsdale BarrettJackson event and being named the #1 Top Restomod of 2020 by Top Gear magazine. The Huracán EVO Spyder combines the option of open-air driving with the prowess of the Huracán EVO’s evolutionary technologies. Rear-wheel steering and a four-wheel torque vectoring system are controlled centrally by Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI): the Central Processing Unit integrating and controlling every aspect of the car’s set-up and dynamic behavior, anticipating the next move and needs of the driver and interpreting this through a ‘feed forward logic’. The aerodynamic superiority of the Huracán EVO is continued with the Spyder. With roof either up or down, the aerodynamic competency of the EVO Spyder, with more than five times the downforce and efficiency of the original Huracán Spyder, sustains not only the most dynamic handling and performance but the comfort of the occupants. Cabin airflow is minimised and the occupants assured a quiet cockpit environment. Like the EVO coupé, a new front bumper gives the car a low, assertive personality with aerodynamic efficiency improved via the front splitter and enlarged air intakes. At the rear the Huracán EVO Spyder adopts the new rear design evocative of naked race bikes and inspired by Lamborghini Huracán race cars, with the twin outlets of the new sports exhaust system positioned high in the rear bumper. ased in sunny Wilmington, North Carolina, Osprey Custom Cars are the visionaries and crafters behind the world’s most cuttingedge and timeless overland vehicles. They truly love what they do - this is a lifelong love affair for them. They are a family business and know the dream of creating something that lasts. Whatever your dream is, Osprey is confident that they can bring it to life. Dominik Severino: So the first thing I would like to ask is, what was the build that was the most inspiring to you, or the build that changed the way you go about doing what you do, and why? Aaron Richardet: Well starting back in ‘08 or ‘09, we were at the bottom working our way up, learning through the curves. And one of the most important things that I try to center my business on is customer satisfaction. So with any of the projects that I am working on now, I don’t want to make excuses for, or apologize for anything. Which is tough because I always strive for perfection,
and even new cars have issues. So at some point you have to make changes. We want the customer to love the way it looks, the way it drives, and the way it feels, and we want to custom tailor it to them. And with that said, we want to have duplications, so that if something does go wrong, we can fix it and ensure customer satisfaction. You can’t do that with restoring old trucks like we used to. That’s why now our builds have gone from old cars being restored to brand new builds with brand new parts. So let’s say I see Osprey in a magazine, or online, and I am immediately intrigued. I contact you, then what happens? Usually we just talk. 95% of the time, these are not people’s primary cars, but cars for a second or third home. And I have to know what the need, and design for the vehicle is. So we’ll just start talking like two buddies, and figure out how you are going to use it.
We do a lot of luxurious builds for The Hamptons, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Orange County, places like that, but we also send a lot of our products to the upper midwest for fly fishing vehicles. And when we do those, we change up the interior. It’s not as glamorous because they’ll want to put the dog, fishing poles and tackle in the car, and hose it out at the end of the day. So we just have a long conversation. People come to me with ideas and they either work or they don’t. And if they don’t, we want to keep the customer as happy as possible, so we’ll always suggest the option that guarantees the most functionality, and durability. I’m curious about the artistry behind your product. I’m sure that sometimes customers will come in and bring new ideas to your attention, and inspire you with something that you haven’t thought of. All the time. Maybe someone will see something they like such as a custom Sprinter, and they’ll ask for teak floors, and that wasn’t something that we came up with on our own. A customer back in 2012 suggested that, and eight or nine years ago we were doing that before anybody. Right now, we’re doing a truck for a distillery in Kentucky, and we’re putting all of their
custom logos on it. They’ll keep it around the distillery for a while, and then it’ll go up to Montana to be their fly fishing vehicle. You mentioned that a lot of your business comes from places like Nantucket and Orange County. What is it about those areas where you see a high concentration of customers? The reason being is that we build a lot of Defenders, and Defenders are very versatile vehicles. Every outdoor lifestyle person knows all about them, and that type of buyer is always looking, and they’re always thinking about it. Now that Landrover is also really advertising their new line of Defenders, it is reinvigorating people who wanted one, for example when they got out of college but couldn’t afford it. They’ll see the new Defender, and they aren’t the same as the older ones. That’s how they’ll come across us. And at the end of the day, they’re about the same price as some of your high class sports cars, but if you pull up in one of those, vs. pulling up in an Osprey Defender, you’ll be treated a very different way. A lot of our buyers like that aspect of it. They can have a really nice car to add to their collection and functionally use whether they’re down in Alabama at their duck hunting place, Texas, or somewhere like Orange County.
What is a build that you are currently working on that really has you inspired? Well, the one that comes to mind isn’t a build, it’s a restoration. It’s for a really nice guy up in New York. He bought a car back in California and didn’t get what he thought he was getting. So he contacted me, and I was up in New York so I went to pick up his car and meet face to face, which I usually don’t do; I usually meet the customers face to face when I drop off their vehicles. And he kind of held off on a couple of things as he wanted to save a couple grand. So his wife reached out to me later without him knowing and said, “Listen I know that he really wants this color, so how much extra is it?” His car is going to be delivered next week, and he has no idea that it is going to be blue, because his wife is doing that as a gift. I can’t wait to see the look on his face once I back it out of the trailer. That’s an amazing story, and I’m sure he’s going to be blown away. Do you get a lot of significant others ordering vehicles as gifts? Very often, yes. We have about eighteen projects active in the shop right now, and three of them are gifts. You have eighteen active projects right now?! Yes, eighteen active projects. We break all of our stuff down into crews and teams. We have three massive rooms in our building. One for things like the engine, axles, the frame, all the plumbing and that sort of stuff. Then a room where we work on the body, and then it comes to the room where we do the final finish and any last touches. The most important thing to know is that every one of my customers gets my direct phone number. I’m always here for them seven days a week. We stand behind our product, and we look to build a long term relationship with our customers. That’s why I personally deliver almost all of the projects so that we get to meet in the end eye to eye. I love repeat business, and referrals are the easiest sells of all. That’s what has helped our business grow so much.

PORSCHE 911 TURBO REDEFINED POWER
S
ince its introduction over 45 years ago, the Porsche 911 Turbo has balanced everyday usability with exhilarating performance.
Following the recent introduction of the 2021 911 Turbo S, the 2021 911 Turbo Coupe and Cabriolet are now making their debut. Thanks to an output of 572 hp (427 kW), marking an increase of 32 hp over the predecessor, the new 911 Turbo accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds (0.2 seconds faster than before) while the new 911 Turbo Cabriolet takes 2.8 seconds (also 0.2 seconds faster) The acceleration, power output and torque (553 lb.-ft.) of the new 911 Turbo are on the level of the previous 2019 911 Turbo S. Like the 2021 911 Turbo S, the twin-turbo boxer engine in the 911 Turbo models is mated to a standard eight-speed PDK transmission with Turbospecific internals and calibration. The top track speed of the new 911 Turbo models is 198 mph. New options such as a Sport and Lightweight package, Sport Suspension with a lower ride height and Sport Exhaust system, first introduced for the 911 Turbo S, are also available for the 911 Turbo for the first time, providing an even higher degree of customization than ever before. The 2021 911 Turbo models follow in prestigious footsteps: the 911 Turbo has been the ultimate intersection of performance and luxury within the 911 model line since 1975. The latest generation of 911 Turbo is more than twice as powerful as the original 930 Turbo, which featured a three-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine, single turbocharger and an output of up to 260 PS, depending on the market.
Like the recently introduced 2021 911 Turbo S, the six-cylinder boxer engine in the new 911 Turbo has a displacement of 3,745 cc and now features symmetrical VTG turbochargers with electrically controlled bypass valves. In conjunction with the redesigned charge air cooling system and the use of piezo fuel injectors, this improves throttle response, performance, torque delivery and the free revving nature of the engine. In the Turbo models, this engine makes 572 hp. Complementing the increase in power, the chassis has been tuned to offer an even greater level of performance. Adopting the changes implemented on the new 911 Turbo S earlier this year, steering response and precision on the new 911 Turbo models have been further improved thanks to an additional 1.65 inches of front track width and the new 20-inch 255/35 tires (up from 245/35 previously). Also shared
with the 2021 911 Turbo S, the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive system in the 911 Turbo is able to transfer even more power to the front wheels than before. Traction at the rear axle, which is equipped with rear-axle steering as standard, is increased even further by 0.39 inches of added track width compared to the last 911 Turbo, as well as 315/30 tires on 21-inch wheels (305/30 R 20 previously). The revamped brake system is even larger than on the last 911 Turbo and can be recognized by the red fixed calipers. The front cast iron brake rotors now measure 408 millimeters in diameter (28 mm larger than the previous 911 Turbo) and are 36 millimeters thick (plus 2 mm). The rear axle features 380-millimeter brake rotors that are 30 millimeters thick. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), standard on the 911 Turbo S, with 10-piston front calipers, are available as an option.
A Sport Exhaust system that was introduced on the 2021 911 Turbo S is also optionally available for the 911 Turbo for the very first time. Two different suspension options are also new: while the standard PASM suspension offers a greater spread between agility and ride comfort than before, the particularly performance oriented, electronically controlled PASM Sport Suspension with a 0.39 inch (10 mm) lower ride height compared to the standard suspension benefits the agility of the new 911 Turbo even further with a set-up aimed at further enhancing driving dynamics. Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), which uses active anti-roll stabilization, is available as an option for the 911 Turbo models. The muscular design of the 911 Turbo reflects the significant increase in power and performance of the new generation. Shared with the 2021 911 Turbo S, the body of the new 911 Turbo models is 1.8 inches wider than the predecessor at
the front fenders to accommodate the increase in track width and tire size compared to the previous model. The new front luggage compartment lid featuring a striking recess in the center underlines the performance-focused character. LED headlights with PDLS Plus are fitted as standard. At the rear axle, the body is now 0.78 inches wider than the previous generation 911 Turbo (991), also to accommodate wider track and tires. Other distinguishing features of the new 911 Turbo are the enhanced adaptive aerodynamics with controlled cooling air flaps at the front, a larger active front spoiler and the significantly increased size of the active rear spoiler. The air intakes on the rear side panels, characteristic for the 911 Turbo, now draw in process air rather than cooling air. The charge air coolers are now positioned directly in the air stream under the rear decklid. The continuous light bar with LED tail lights as well as the new louvered rear decklid grille with silver trim strips round off the design of the rear end.
The appearance and performancefocused character of the vehicle can be additionally enhanced by the optional Lightweight package and Sport package. The Lightweight package for the coupe reduces the vehicle’s weight by about 66 pounds. Full Bucket seats, the deletion of the rear seats and reduced sound insulation contribute to the weight savings and allow the exhaust note to enter the cabin more intensely. The Sport package encompasses all the elements of the SportDesign package as well as additional applications in Black, carbon fiber elements and Exclusive Design clear taillights. The basic elements of the 911 Turbo interior correspond to those of the current 911 Carrera models with Porsche Advanced Cockpit and Direct Touch Control. The 10.9inch Porsche Communication Management (PCM) center screen can be operated quickly. The extensive list of standard equipment includes electrically adjustable 14way Sport seats, the Sport Chrono package, a GT Sport steering wheel with shift paddles and mode switch as well as the BOSE® Surround Sound System. Numerous options are available, including Porsche InnoDrive with adaptive cruise control, Lane Keep Assist with traffic sign recognition, Night Vision Assist, Surround View and a Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System.

he new Jaguar F-PACE SVR is now faster, more dynamic and more refined than ever.Thanks to the latest enhancements by the Jaguar SV team, the pinnacle of the F-PACE SUV range is elevated to another level. Motorsport-inspired design details, a luxurious and performance-focused interior and the latest connected convenience technologies are among the updates delivered by a combination of new hardware and the move to advanced Electronic Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0). “The original F-PACE SVR was incredibly characterful, well received by customers and has gone on to become the highestselling Jaguar SV product ever,” said Michael van der Sande, Managing Director, Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations. “The new version builds on this success, by making numerous detailed improvements that combine to raise the bar in the highperformance SUV segment.” For 2021, the F-PACE SVR is available exclusively with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine, which produces 550 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque – an increase of 14 lb-ft. This uplift in torque delivers enhanced performance, allowing F-PACE SVR to accelerate to 60mph in 3.8 seconds, or 0.3 second faster than the outgoing model. Top speed increases by 2 mph to 178 mph.4 The powertrain now features the same torque converter used in the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan, to withstand the higher loads produced. The transmission and dynamics systems have also benefited from incremental tweaks. Dynamic mode now features unique tuning, delivering a focused and honed driving experience. Dynamic Launch, new for 2021, uses driveline inertia to maintain power to the wheels during gear changes, contributing to sharper acceleration from a standstill. At the same time, F-PACE SVR is now more comfortable and enjoyable to drive, without compromising its high-speed dynamics, further underlining its duality of purpose.
The steering system is enhanced with a new electronic power-assistance system delivering greater immediacy, providing a heightened connection between the vehicle and driver. Modified tuning of the adaptive damping provides a more refined ride at low speeds, which is further improved by revised chassis bushings. The 395mm (front) and 396mm (rear) two-piece disc brakes are now supported by a new Integrated Power Booster which, along with a recalibration of the system, delivers a sportier and shorter brake pedal. This tuning is specific to F-PACE SVR, while the brake system uses a new electric booster system. The improved cooling and aerodynamics of the vehicle also improve the performance of the brakes.2 The 5.0-liter supercharged V8 is paired with an ultraresponsive 8-speed automatic transmission that delivers rapid gear shifts for effortless performance, while adapting the way power is delivered to suit the driving situations. “The move to Jaguar’s new Electrical Vehicle Architecture gave us the opportunity to revisit the calibration of every
single component, so we took the chance to fine-tune the driving experience to make it feel even more focused and even more refined,” said Paul Barritt, F-PACE SVR Chief Program Engineer, Jaguar SV. All-wheel drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics is fitted as standard. Adaptive Dynamics suspension technology ensures a precise, dynamic setup coupled with a supple ride, while Configurable Dynamics provides enhanced driver appeal by enabling the driver to set up the vehicle to suit their personal preferences. A stopwatch, G-Meter and pedal graph also help the driver to monitor performance in Dynamic mode.2 The design of the new F-PACE SVR is inspired by motorsport experience, with enhanced airflow and aerodynamic benefits delivered through new apertures and vents for improved powertrain and brake cooling. The changes deliver superior aerodynamic performance, including 35 percent reduction in aerodynamic lift and a reduction in drag to 0.36 Cd. As well as the performance enhancements, these elements also provide a more purposeful aesthetic.

From front- to mid-engine, in under three seconds “Corvette has always represented the pinnacle of innovation and boundary-pushing at GM. The traditional front-engine vehicle reached its limits of performance, necessitating the new layout,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “In terms of comfort and fun, it still looks and feels like a Corvette, but drives better than any vehicle in Corvette history. The 2020 Stingray’s exterior has a bold, futuristic expression with mid-engine exotic proportions, but it is still unmistakably Corvette. It’s lean and muscular, with an athletic sculptural shape conveying a sense of motion and power from every angle. “As America’s most iconic performance nameplate, redesigning the Corvette Stingray from the ground up presented the team a historic opportunity, something Chevrolet designers have desired for over 60 years,” said Michael Simcoe, vice president of Global Design, General Motors. “It is now the best of America, a new arrival in the mid-engine sports car class. We know Corvette can stand tall with the best the world has to offer.” A supercar level of craftsmanship, premium materials and attention to detail were critical in designing every component of the Stingray. The new location of the engine is truly the focal point for the car’s design. It’s the heart of this next generation Corvette and it sits like a jewel in a showcase, visible through the large rear hatch window. The added attention to detail optimized the appearance of every wire, tube, bolt and fastener, similar to those found in modern track and all-road motorcycle design. True to its aeronautical and racing roots, the 2020 Stingray’s canopy-forward stance was inspired by F22s, F35s and other modern fighter jets and Formula One racing. Other classic Corvette signatures adapted to the Stingray include a distinctive face that communicates the purpose of the vehicle’s mission, a classic horizontal crease, aggressive front fenders and familiar positioning of the dual-element headlamps.
Corvette’s structure is built around its backbone: the center tunnel. This enables a light, stiff structure to serve as the foundation for the suspension system to perform in an optimized manner. By removing unwanted body compliance, Corvette customers will experience the ultimate in ride performance with outstanding lateral grip capabilities. The car has a solid, connected-to-theroad feel with minimal vibrations at high speeds or on long road trips. “Our mission was to develop a new type of sports car, combining the successful attributes of Corvette with the performance and driving experience of mid-engine supercars,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer.

MERCEDES-MAYBACH S-CLASS A NEW DEFINITION OF LUXURY

ince the market launch in 2015, around 60,000 examples of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class have been delivered worldwide. In 2019, with around 12,000 units, more MercedesMaybach S-Class cars were sold than ever before. Distinguishing features at the front include the distinctive hood with a chrome fin and the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille. This is highly recognizable by its vertical, three-dimensional trim strips. The word mark MAYBACH is elegantly integrated into the chrome surround of the
grille. The rear doors are wider than those of the brother models, and the C-pillars feature a fixed quarterlight. Exclusivity is emphasized by the Maybach brand logo on the C-pillar. On request, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class can be equipped with electrically operated comfort rear doors and the exclusive appearance can be enhanced by a two-tone paint finish with dividing line. This is applied by hand according to the highest quality criteria. The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is based on the completely new interior design of the MercedesBenz S-Class. The sculptured look of the dashboard, center console and armrests appears to float above an expansive interior landscape. Five display screens are equipped as standard, including a 12.8-inch OLED central display as a high-tech control center and a 12.3-inch 3D driver display with threedimensional representation of other road users and pronounced depth and shade effects.
The distinctive look of the driver display in ‘Exclusive’ mode underlines the special status of the Mercedes-Maybach: the surrounds of the dial instruments are in the brand color rose gold. This color is also used for the active ambient lighting--the animated LED light band with intelligent comfort and safety functions. With rose gold white and amethyst glow, the active ambient lighting now has two new color themes. The “Welcome Rear” entry display welcomes passengers with a special light show. Adaptive rear lighting has its premiere in the Mercedes-Maybach. This follows the wishes of the occupants in several respects: as well as the brightness, the size and position of the light spot can be adjusted. There is also a wide adjustment range between precise working light and relaxing lounge light There is plenty of classic luxury on board, too: new features include the large areas of trim on the front seats. High- quality wood surrounds encase the rear of the front seat backrests. With the available Executive Rear Seat Plus package, a similarly striking area of trim is positioned between the two rear passengers.

The Cobra to End All Cobras
here are cars, and then there are cars. In this second category you’ll find the truly unique, one-of-a-kind, fire-breathing motorized chariots that it’s hard to believe were ever legal to drive on the street.
The 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Super Snake, the famous CSX 3015, offered for sale at Barrett-Jackson’s 2021 Scottsdale Auction, is just such a car. Featured in their February 1968 issue, Road & Track famously called it “The Cobra To End All Cobras.” Pedigree? It was built for and driven by the man whose name was on the factory, Carroll Shelby himself. He ordered its creation to give himself a Cobra with second-to-none performance, and he definitely achieved it. He personally drove the car to 190 mph at the Turismos Visitadores, a Nevada open-road event, an unforgettable experience even for the former 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. “It’s a special car. There was never anything else built like it,” Shelby said to a packed Barrett-Jackson audience when it first rolled across the Scottsdale stage in 2007. The history behind the car is as singular as the performance of the Super Snake itself. (Not to be confused with the other Super Snake, the 427-powered 1967 GT500 that was built for speed runs and to test the concept of a 427 Shelby Mustang.) Originally one of the handful of Competition Cobra Roadsters built, this car was initially shipped to Europe and invoiced to Ford Advanced Vehicles for a promotional tour. In late 1966 it was sent back stateside, after which it was given the twin Paxton surgery and reclassified as a Semi Competition Cobra, making it technically legal for street use. Besides being Carroll Shelby’s personal car, the Super Snake ownership chain is unbroken and includes other heavy hitters. The car was purchased from Shelby in 1970 by songwriter Jimmy Webb, best known for “By the Time I get to Phoenix,” “Up, Up and Away” and “MacArthur Park.” The Super Snake then passed through the hands of a variety of serious collectors, most notably becoming part of the renowned Ron Pratte Collection, which sold over the Barrett-Jackson auction block in 2015.
1969 Ford Mustang Fender Custom Fastback Of course, few things flow together more seamlessly than hot rods and rock and roll. That’s why, for the 2021 BarrettJackson Scottsdale Auction, the Barrett-Jackson Builds team partnered with Fender Guitars to Resto-Mod two of the biggest icons of all time: the Fender Stratocaster and the Ford Mustang. The project began as somewhat of a celebration, as 2021 marks Fender’s 75th and Barrett-Jackson’s 50th anniversaries, two impressive milestones for both companies. The Mustang was built by an elite team of craftsmen led by BarrettJackson shop foreman Jason Aker of “Fast N’ Loud” fame. Aker and the Builds team – including Tony Cano (also from “Fast N’ Loud”), BarrettJackson Vehicle Logistics Manager Jeff Catlin and mechanic Shawn McGee – worked closely with Ron Thorn and Fender VP Product Development Fender Custom Shop Mike Lewis to create a special Mustang ready to rock the moment the key is turned. There’s no shortage of rock songs celebrating our favorite mechanical pastime, but the Fender Stratocaster’s connection with the automobile and links to hot-rod culture speaks for itself. Not only did Fender experiment with car paint in the early 1960s, but the ’69 Stratocaster sold in tandem with the Mustang was inspired by Fender’s Principal Master Builder Ron Thorn’s rock-driven, hotrod-shop ethos. As chance would have it, Ron Thorn’s first car just so happened to be a 1969 Mustang, giving this project a personal touch. With over 800 bespoke guitars to his name, Thorn set to work designing the ’69 Stratocaster in his signature blend of precision and soul. “RestoMod is the perfect term for this guitar,” Thorn said. “Although built from scratch, we took the core 1969 Stratocaster model and modified it with customizations and highperformance components – exactly what the Barrett-Jackson Builds team did to the car.”
Barn Find to Triple Crown Winner A 1965 GT350, #5S553, from the personal collection of Barrett-Jackson CEO and Chairman Craig Jackson, is one of just 562 produced by Shelby-American, and the seventh from last build in the inaugural year of the Shelby Mustang program. “As a serious collector of Shelbys, I can confidently say that this car is the best 1965 Shelby GT350 on the planet,” said Jackson. “It doesn’t get any better than this.” Originally built at Ford’s San Jose, California, assembly plant, the fastback Mustang would head south to Shelby American’s LAX headquarters. There, the Mustang would be transformed into performance car legend, or, as Car and Driver put it in their May 1965 issue, “The nearest thing to a real racing car that one is likely to find on public roads.” This GT350 saw public relations duty before being sent to a Ford dealer in Huntington Beach, California. It would later be purchased and taken to a small town in Southern Texas. There, owned by two brothers, it remained until the summer of 2016, when it was rediscovered sitting in a barn. The restoration began with assistance from Barrett-Jackson shop foreman and Mustang specialist Jason Aker. With oversight from Barrett-Jackson Vehicle Logistics Manager Jeff Catlin, Aker and Brown would set to work, intent on perfection and documenting every step of disassembly with high-resolution digital photographs to ensure authenticity. “Our goal at the time of restoration was to spare no expense whatsoever and make 5S553 the finest restored example of the breed anywhere,” Jackson said. The goal was also to dominate SAAC Division One competition in search of three “perfect” scores, making the car a “triple-crown” winner in the Shelby world.
