ne of the finest examples of old-world craftsmanship in Southern California, blended with 21st Century technology and every convenience, creating an incomparable everlasting masterpiece. The owners, driven by meticulous attention to every detail, retained and orchestrated the nation’s finest team by combining the artistry and architecture of Thomas Jakway, the pageantry of design of Thomas Allardyce (Hendrix Allardyce Design) and the quality of precision construction of Gerry Langlois and his hand-selected craftsmen that culminated into this Mediterranean style home that artfully melds with its picturesque surroundings. The home’s design process began in 2004, resulting in this significant home with interior living space of nearly 11,400 square feet and was completed in 2008. The main level of the residence is complimented by a lower level that hosts the family’s gathering sanctuary with a media area featuring a 103” flat screen digital television, game room, sit-down bar and access to the subterranean multi-vehicle garage. The main level presents a floor plan that consists of a guest wing with separate entrance boasting 2 bedrooms (each with a private bath) and a centered sitting room with breakfast bar and media area. Within the home are two additional guest suites with ensuite bath, each accessed via a shared sitting room near the great entry hall. The regal master suite includes a paneled office with privacy door and French-style doors that open to a secluded patio. From the suite’s entryhall you come upon the sitting room with patio access and transitional steps to the sleeping chamber with fireplace. The bedroom walls are dressed in Fortuny fabric and are complimented by silk draperies by Cowan and Trout. The majestic master bath defines elegance displaying intricately detailed cabinetry and wood treatments, beveled edge mirrors, exquisite marble and delicate light fixtures that sparkle and reflect. The private entry courtyard hosts one of two outdoor entertaining areas, the second being alongside a tranquil lake bordering the meandering fairway that travels to the 6th Green of the Desert Course. The entry courtyard leads to the recessed pool and spa where one can step up to the outdoor living room and restfully lounge before a cozy fire or dine alfresco under our starlit skies. This calming space is also accessible via the retractable sliding doors off the family room and the formal living room. The patio area along the fairway offers spacious patio space for casual dining and includes the home’s barbecue area with pizza oven.
The great hall journeys first to the entry pavilion and the winding staircase to the lower level. Continuing down this hall beneath arched ceilings you come to the open, yet formal, living room, the climatecontrolled wine room with custom iron and glass doors and the absolutely flawless baroque dining room. The great hall gracefully turns towards the family room with a corner that will accommodate a morning breakfast table affront a limestone fireplace and a considerable area for casual family living that conjoins with the lovely Country French kitchen. The kitchen is a family chef’s dream with a large centerisland and everything you need within reach to prepare an intimate family dinner or a feast for large gatherings. Directly adjacent to the kitchen and featuring direct access to
the formal dining room is a well-designed butler’s pantry for additional storage and food preparation. This family area offers access to both outdoor spaces to make entertaining a pleasure. An elevator within the home connects the mulitple levels. The electric gated driveway leads to the multi-vehicle subterranean garage providing both privacy and security. The home is equipped with 11 heating and air conditioning systems. The durable bronzeclad windows throughout the home are by Albertini. The state-of-the-art security system is monitored onsite and also includes a reporting signal to the Club’s security hub, which provides 24-hour first response to each Member’s home. THE GOLF CLUB AT DEVILS TOWER A PARADISE UNSPOILED
N
estled amongst the soul-soothing backdrop of Wyoming’s Black Hills, there exists a sleepy town with no stop lights. A place “where the west never ends”. For residents of the Northeastern Wyoming town of Hulett, this is about as close to paradise as there is in our beautiful country. They may be right. It’s here, in the shadow of America’s first recognized National Monument, Devils Tower, that local Patriarch Jim Neiman Sr. had a vision. Create an experience that would capture the mystique of the West, while providing private members with a golf resort as pristine as the Black Hills air that blankets its fairways, as well as offer the small community an outlet for outdoor recreation. To say he has seen that vision through would be a glaring understatement. The journey from being just a vision, to ultimately being honored as one of America’s Best New Courses by Golf Digest Magazine, began by carving out three holes on a bluff overlooking Devils Tower, in the thick of the prairie wilderness. From there, the potential to create something truly remarkable was quickly recognized, and Jim enlisted the insight and design expertise of renowned golf designer Kevin Atkinson, of Phelps-Atkinson Golf Design. The end result, and what they’ve since expanded upon, is a sprawling retreat from the chaotic bustle of everyday modern life. The course itself is 7,111 yards of meticulously designed fairways, bunkers, greens and water challenges. All interwoven with the aweinspiring Wyoming landscape, full of tall pine trees, open valleys, red rimrock, and native grasses that stretch out as far as the eye can gaze. In the distance, Devils Tower looms large and majestic, reminding you that you are far from the noise of the outside world. It’s difficult not to feel a sense of solitude and inner peace as you breathe in the crisp, clean air that fills the remarkably blue skies that hold watch over this stunning course. The landscape is unlike any other course you’ve likely played, and around each bend, the views become more and more captivating.
The experience doesn’t end after you’ve holed out the eighteenth, however. This Western oasis boasts plenty more to offer its club members who are looking for something other than just world-class golf. This area of Wyoming is renowned as a haven for big game hunting, fishing, and hiking as well. Hunting expeditions can yield large elk, turkeys, whitetails and mule deer for those with a keen eye and steady hand. Opportunities abound for fly fishing or spin fishing for trout, walleye, bass and catfish. Members can also release some stress by firing off some rounds on the property’s skeet range. All of these incredible opportunities are available for club members. For those hoping for something more relaxed, there lies over 1,000 acres of unspoiled countryside to explore by foot or bicycle. Abundant trails and footpaths carve their way through the landscape, rich with wildlife, native plants, and tremendous opportunities for photographers of all skill levels. As the painting worthy sun bids farewell, the massive expanse of Wyoming sky is illuminated by the millions of stars that appear just out of reach, a sight previously unseen by most who visit from larger cities across the globe. The peace and quiet that accompanies them, a welcome escape from the traffic, pollution, and crowds that fill our daily lives.
When you’re ready to unwind for the evening, the beautifully sculpted 77 Steakhouse & Saloon welcomes you to feast on locally sourced bison, as well as pour you libations from behind one of the most breathtaking backbars in the country. Built before the turn of the nineteenth century, this beautifully crafted bar was purchased by Jim Nieman Sr. in 2005, and painstakingly restored by his daughter Connie and son-in-law Tom Lindmier. The 28’ long “stand-up” bar was built in Chicago and transported to Belle Fourche, SD by rail, where it’s believed the likes of Seth Bullock, Calamity Jane, and the Sundance Kid all laid their elbows atop it’s bar rail. After a day enjoying the wonderfully slowed down pace of this secluded get away destination, guests can fall into the comfort of the western style lodging offered at the course. This is when you’ll be able to truly relax, and reflect on the splendor of your surroundings. Sleep comes easy, and the morning sunrise offers another chance to take it all in once again. The Golf Club at Devils Tower offers three levels of membership: Regional, National, and Corporate, as well as a Member for a Day option. In order to deliver a true world class experience to club members, Jim Nieman Sr. built a 5,500’ air strip on the property which members can fly in on. From there, the club’s flight concierge service will take them from tarmac to tee in ten minutes. This is just another in a long list of amenities offered at the exclusive club. The club is also available for weddings and receptions, banquets and parties, as well as corporate retreats and other gatherings. Spellbound by the beauty of this private getaway, you’ll want to stake your claim under the big western sky. The Golf Club at Devils Tower has exclusive real estate opportunities available on a very limited basis. With lots starting at $85,000, you can build your perfect fairway home with unobstructed views of the immaculate golf course and the breathtaking Black Hills of Wyoming. Contact the Club for the most up to date real estate opportunities. Call (307) 467-5773 or inquire online at www.DevilsTowerGolf.com with questions about amenities and the calendar of events, and then book your summer getaway to this hidden gem to experience the true spirit of the American West.

‘Enlightenment’ is a surreal and whimsical depiction of the intricate mechanisms of the human brain. “It‘s a whimsical analogy between the fireflies light-dance and the neurons synaptic connections and their inner communication patterns through energy. It’s mesmerizing that each of these neurons holds a specific relationship with their neighbor neuron. Unbeknown to them, by fulfilling their design, a superior purpose is in the making. They will never perceive that by doing their little light-dance, thoughts, creativity and consciousness unveil”

BIG CEDAR LODGE AMERICA’S PREMIER WILDERNESS RESORT
Ozarks National
L
ocated deep within the Ozark Mountains of Missouri lies an unexpected destination that is teed up to be the next big thing in golf. Big Cedar Lodge, both a nature enthusiast and sportsman’s dream escape, stretches along the shores of Table Rock Lake, and has long been hailed as America’s premier wilderness resort. Johnny Morris, noted conservationist and founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops, purchased Big Cedar Lodge in 1987 with the intent of creating a place for families to reconnect with nature. Over the years, Big Cedar Lodge has greatly expanded its offerings but Morris’ vision to create a wilderness resort as a place where conservation and family traditions come together has remained at the heart of the resort’s mission. Big Cedar Lodge has further expanded its commitment by redefining golf in the Ozarks. Five distinct courses are a vision of Morris and five of the biggest names in golf. Ozarks National by Coore and Crenshaw The golf course architect team of Coore & Crenshaw share Johnny Morris’ passion and appreciation for nature and conservation, making Ozarks National a striking display for the senses. Designed to test avid players and golf travelers from around the country and provide the perfect complement to the existing 18-hole layout at Buffalo Ridge Springs. The course was recently named the “Best New Public Course in America” by Golf Digest and rated the #1 Course you can play in Missouri by Golfweek’s 2020 rankings. It also serves as a gateway to the Ozarks National Forest, cementing Big Cedar Lodge as America’s next great golf destination Top of the Rock by Jack Nicklaus Top of the Rock, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, is the firstever Par-3 course included in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event. Perched high above Table Rock Lake, experience peaceful waterfalls, wandering creeks, bass filled ponds and a true celebration of nature, the Ozarks and the game of golf.
Top of the Rock
Buffalo Ridge Springs by Tom Fazio Buffalo Ridge has been transformed by visionary Johnny Morris and renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio. Adding new approaches, water features and bunkers, Morris and Fazio have redesigned the course layout to bring players in close contact with native grasses and free-ranging bison from nearby Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. The course has been rated the #1 Public Course in Missouri by Golf Magazine and holds a Golf Digest rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. Mountain Top by Gary Player World Golf Hall of Famer Gary Player and Johnny Morris teamed up to create a world-class, family-friendly golf course. The 13-hole course was designed to bring a more accessible experience to families, juniors and golfers who are learning the game as it routes through unforgettable rock formations and includes some of the best vistas in the region.
Buffalo Ridge
Mountain Top
Payne’s Valley by Tiger Woods & TGR Design Named in honor of the late Payne Stewart, the new Payne’s Valley golf course is the first public-access course in the world completed by Tiger Woods and his design firm TGR Design. A partnership between Johnny Morris, Tiger Woods and the Payne Stewart Family, the course showcases the region’s natural beauty through a 19-hole championship course. That’s right, this course has 19 holes with the bonus hole being designed by Big Cedar Lodge founder, Johnny Morris. Morris let his imagination run wild to show the world why he’s earned the reputation as, “The Walt Disney of the Great Outdoors.” Morris envisioned the bonus hole as an epic expression of his vision of nature golf and a stunning tribute to Payne Stewart. Below a massive rock wall, an island green rises from Lunker Lake. If a golfer is skilled enough to land the ball on the green protected by two white sand bunkers from the tee box 140 yards away, he or she can reach the island by crossing a tiny bridge. Below the bridge, in classic Johnny Morris fashion, Lunker Lake is teaming with giant Missouri Trout and Largemouth Bass.
Once golfers complete the hole, the nature adventure shifts into high gear. Morris’ epic adventure continues on the “Cliffhanger Trail,” a nearly one-mile nature trail that ascends the sheer rock face before returning to the clubhouse. Golfers travel through a spring-fed cavern system that dates back millions of years as they traverse alongside 250foot cliffs, across a handcrafted metal bridge that spans a 100-foot-deep gorge, and through ancient waterfalls. “This hole is a tribute to all nature gives us, to great friends and families enjoying happy times together outdoors, and to the amazing legacy of Payne Stewart,” – Johnny Morris Along with all of Big Cedar’s golf offerings, the resort has an endless amount of leisure attractions to enjoy such as nearby Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, the Bass Pro Shops Shooting Academy, Fun Mountain and Cedar Creek Spa. Big Cedar Lodge also opened Angler’s Lodge in Hollister, MO to offer additional lodging options for those traveling to the Ozarks. Just a short drive away is Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife which has twice been voted as America’s Best Aquarium by the readers of USA TODAY. SCOTTSDALE NATIONAL GOLF CLUB THE EPITOME OF THE JETSETTER EXPERIENCE
A
n exclusive, members only oasis in the Sonoran Desert, Scottsdale National Golf Club presents golf the way it should be played. No tee times required. Wide open fairways across forty-five holes with no homes lining the courses. Supported by two distinctive clubhouses with stunning views and unexpected amenities. Fifteen luxurious member Villas with sixty tastefully appointed rooms, surrounded by three million acres of government protected desert land in the center of magnificent vistas. And just one rule, established by club owners Bob and Renee Parsons — and insisted upon by the membership — “No member shall ever impinge upon another member’s enjoyment of the club.” Jamie Agoglia: Scottsdale National Golf Club sounds like it is the most unparalleled golfing experience on the planet. Robert Reeves, General Manager of Hospitality: It is. We have a very unique membership experience. When you compare us to other clubs and other golf club experiences, ours is and is always going to be, I think very unique and different from a lot that you find out there. The Xperience at Scottsdale National is an opportunity for people to come here and experience what it is like to be a member for three days and be treated as such and get full access to the club and all the amenities that come with the membership. There are three ways to get in this door and that’s either be a member, be a guest of a member, or to be a participant in the experience. Something we hear time and time again, the saddest part about their (Xperience participant) stay here is when they leave and realize that it’s all over. The Xperience is a chance for somebody to come in here and really partake in everything and anything that is Scottsdale National.
I love the one rule, “no member shall ever impinge upon another member’s enjoyment of the club.” That’s fantastic. RR: That is absolutely the foundation of everything that we do here. It’s rule number one, actually, that’s the only rule that exists here at Scottsdale National. If invited to join, you’re not handed a 30-page rulebook stating you can’t have your phones and you can’t wear a hat in the clubhouse and you have to wear a collared shirt… The only thing at Scottsdale National, or quite frankly, with Mr. and Mrs. Parsons, is that they go against the grain of tradition. They are so irreverent in their own respective ways, which makes Scottsdale National so unique and very special. These are two people who have a love of the game, who have a love for the finer things in life. More importantly, they have a love of being able to share those things with others and be able to surround themselves with people who have those same passions. That’s why Scottsdale National was created. Come here, have fun. This isn’t about rule books and, and stodgy golf etiquette. Now please trust me, I’m a fan of the game. I share and have a tremendous amount of respect for the game. But golf doesn’t have to be pretentious and stuffy. As Mr. Parsons says, we’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time. And yet, Scottsdale National is secluded luxury. For a lot of our members, they tell me all the time they come in through the gate, they’re able to forget.
Scottsdale National was a bubble before the term bubble even became fashionable. And when a member or guest enters into that bubble, they can really let go. The pressures of life just kind of wash away and members can be very present in the moment and enjoy the things that we’re able to put in front of them and anticipate for them from a service experience. Kristin Newman (KN), General Manager: We maintain a peaceful, wonderful, very beautiful dynamic experience in this bubble, and our staff is as authentic and passionate as it gets. It’s an escape from everything. This is the first time this year in speaking with anyone for a feature in which I didn’t even remotely think to ask about the pandemic as you are truly so completely detached from everything! KN: Aside from no handshakes, hugs, and now masks, you are correct. Scottsdale National truly is the “Jetsetter” experience, there is nothing operating at your level. KN: The level of privacy, seclusion, and peacefulness, it’s absolute and total peacefulness. No member shall ever impinge upon another member’s enjoyment of the club. That is absolutely what governs 100% of what goes on here, and it’s the best thing ever!
KN: It is the most fun, and the most brilliant culture. It gives us a benchmark with which to make all decisions. It’s just truly relaxed and fun and wonderful. To see people playing golf in T-shirts, it’s one of the greatest experiences you’ve ever seen! It’s fantastic! Robert touched upon that and just how important that, in all its seeming simplicity, is. When you remove the pretentiousness, that element, it takes it to another level. People just being how they want to be. KN: It’s a different level of confidence. That’s what I would also say about our membership, they don’t need to prove anything to anyone. They are here to literally just enjoy themselves, which is why Bob (Parsons) built the Club. FORT LAUDERDALE COUNTY CLUB A NEW STATE OF PLAY
WRITTEN AND PHTOGRAPHED BY ANDREW GEGG
I
n South Florida you will find some of the most fantastic golf destinations. Specifically, Fort Lauderdale and surrounding areas have some of the top golf courses. When it comes to private courses, Fort Lauderdale Country Club has set the bar high, not only for golf experience, but hospitality as well. Located in Broward County, Fort Lauderdale Country Club offers 36-holes of manicured championship golf for its members with easy access from the beaches and east side and Plantation and other nearby residential areas. Members enjoy golf in a forested park-like setting, with the finest practice facilities, and the most welcoming membership. When looking for membership at a golf club or country club, there are three things to look for: golf experience, course conditions, and hospitality. Fort Lauderdale CC scores 10/10 for all three. Not only does FLCC have two beautiful courses that are extremely well maintained, but they also provide great service on and off the course. That’s something that helps enhance the experience overall. The golf experience starts with a newly renovated double-ended driving range with both grass and the all-weather surfaces to allow infinite practice options. There are multiple short-game practice areas that feature every type of rough you might experience on the courses, multiple bunkers, and a challenging putting green.
There are two courses, The North and The South. The South was built in 1926 and The North in 1950, both featuring more of a traditional layout. In the spring of 1950, population had shot up tremendously. Because the city was growing so fast, the golf commission decided another eighteen holes of golf were needed. So, another eighty acres adjoining the present “South Course” was purchased. The new course called “North Eighteen”, now the “North Course”, was opened on December 1, 1951. Soon after, there were about six hundred golfers using the courses per day. The two courses ran smoothly through 1953. The club paid its own way, spending thousands in capital improvements on the clubhouse and golf courses. In the summer of 1970, a new lake was dug on the North Course to provide more interesting play on the 7th, 8th and 9th holes. In addition, an elevated tee was constructed on the 9th hole overlooking the water. In that same year additional improvements were made. A five-foot hurricane wire fence was finally erected around both courses embracing a total area of nearly 300 acres. The South Course was redesigned and updated in 1990 and improvements were made to the North Course in 1999 followed by a complete redesign in November 2019. An exceptional drainage system on both courses allows their members to be out enjoying a round of golf and their practice facilities, typically well before neighboring golf courses are open for play. Fairways are spread apart and lined with trees, sometimes sand. Challenging, but well-manicured. They have very limited water hazards, but pay attention, water is placed strategically throughout the course. The greens aren’t terribly fast, but they roll very true. When teeing off you’ll notice how crisp and clean their boxes are. Both of these courses are easily walkable, and both are playable for all. From novice golfers to scratch golfers, you will be left satisfied coming off the 18th green.
The clubhouse provides sweeping views of the beautiful courses and magnificently landscaped grounds. Originally built in 1980, the current clubhouse underwent an extensive renovation in 2007 changing the presentation and layout of both the first and second floors. It also provides members with a congenial, intimate atmosphere and many of the comforts of a home away from home. Fort Lauderdale Country Club is conveniently located just four miles west of downtown Fort Lauderdale. If you’re looking for a country club to join, please consider Fort Lauderdale Country Club. From dropping off your bag, to grabbing a post round drink and food after 18 (or 36), the service and experience is hard to top. The Club’s mission is “To provide our members and their guests with a lifestyle of the highest quality through the traditions of golf.” In the Broward County area, which has numerous golf courses, Fort Lauderdale Country Club is the only private club that offers 36-holes of manicured championship golf in a forested park-like setting as well as the finest practice facility around. Visually, the Club is truly a unique oasis as fairways are lined with stately indigenous trees and colorful beds of flowers, as opposed to houses.

SEA ISLAND EASY TO FIND. HARD TO LEAVE.
S
ea Island, a private resort located on Georgia’s coast, has an expansive campus surrounded by ocean, river and marsh, providing the backdrop for the ultimate getaway for travelers, particularly for those who love the game of golf. Few resorts open a golf course before their hotel is ready for guests, but in 1928, legendary golf at Sea Island began its rich history by doing just that. Designed by the distinguished architect Walter Travis, Sea Island’s nine-hole Plantation Course opened months before The Cloister, with guests staying aboard a floating hotel docked nearby. Now this perennial Forbes Five-Star resort prides itself on offerings for every traveler, whether they are seeking a golf, beach, nature, wellness or romantic retreat, with an array of accommodation options that include private cottages as well as hotel rooms and suites. Today, golf at Sea Island is remarkable. The resort recently completed a $30 million enhancement program that will secure its place in the top echelons of golf for years to come. Combine this with mild, year-round temperatures, it’s no wonder why more than a dozen touring professionals live, play, and/or train there, including Ryder Cup vice captains Davis Love III and Zach Johnson. Enhancements include a pool, pool house and two- and four-bedroom oceanfront, “golfin, golf-out” cottages at The Lodge at Sea Island, home to the Sea Island Golf Club and its three championship courses. Each offers a spacious living area, wet bar, marble bath, and 24-hour butler service. The King Cottage, a 4,200-square-foot “cottage” overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and features four bedrooms each with a marble bathroom; large living and dining area for entertaining; a catering kitchen with the option of an Executive Chef; and a private, indoor hitting bay where players hit directly onto the driving range.
When you’re hitting from your indoor bay at King Cottage, you can’t help but notice the 17,000-square-foot Golf Performance Center across the range. Known as the finest golf instructional center in the world, the “GPC” features industry-leading technology, instruction and club fitting bays, putting studio, golf club workshop, and gym. Its world-class instruction, however, truly sets Sea Island above the rest, with internationally known coaches such as Phil Kenyon and Justin Parsons, Golf Magazine Hall of Famer Jack Lumpkin, and three Top 100 Master Clubfitters. It’s all designed to enhance the game of every skill level, from juniors to touring pros. Plantation, Sea Island’s oldest course, re-opened in Fall 2019 following a full redesign by Mark and Davis Love III. Along with the signature Seaside Course, Plantation is the site of the annual RSM Classic, a PGA TOUR FedEx Cup tournament hosted by Davis Love III. Sea Island’s third course, Retreat, rounds out Sea Island’s trio of exceptional golf options.
Steps away from all this is the Speedway putting course, an 18hole, oceanfront course designed by Davis Love III and his brother, Mark. It’s a fun spot for new or seasoned putters, especially when the sun is setting over the water and the bagpiper is piping away the day, as he does every evening. Sea Island is distinguished by more than 93 outdoor experiences. Along with golf, enjoy the nation’s finest Beach Club, searching for loggerhead sea turtle nests with a naturalist along five miles of private beach, fishing with the family and then savor the day’s catch for dinner. Additional amenities and activities include tennis, sailing, paddleboarding, Shooting School, year-round children’s programs, falconry, and Hawk Walks. Extensive dining options range from Forbes Five-Star to casual, including Sea Strike, a new bowling alley and pub. Accommodation options include The Cloister, located between the Atlantic Ocean and Black Banks River. This Mediterranean masterpiece consists of 265 rooms and suites, many newly refurbished. There are also over 150 cottages, ranging from one to eight bedrooms, offering the flexibility of a private home while being close to amenities and the beach; and The Lodge at Sea Island, situated between two of the three golf courses and perfect for those looking to get away whether for romance or golf. The Lodge, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, features butler service, 43 rooms and seven oceanfront cottages and is the longest standing hotel to consecutively receive Forbes Five-Star ranking since opening its doors. In addition to captivating experiences, setting and superb facilities, Sea Island has been known for generations for providing genuine Southern hospitality to its guests. The result is it being the only resort in the world to receive four Forbes Five-Star awards for 13 consecutive years. To learn more, visit Seaisland.com

STREAMSONG ® RESORT A ONE-OF-A-KIND GOLF DESTINATION
A
n unexpected place far from the crowds and chaos often associated with Central Florida, Streamsong® Resort is a one-of-a-kind golf destination intentionally designed in harmony with its natural surroundings. Nestled amid 16,000 pristine acres of hushed seclusion, there’s a purposeful calm. A place defined by what is found here as much as by what is not. No traffic, no condos, no theme parks. A cool breeze begins to nudge the native grasses, the water’s silent surface is momentarily broken by the belly flop of a largemouth bass; a wood stork’s wings whip the air just above the tree line and gracefully soars into a brilliant orange sunset. Nature’s serenade – here, it’s called a Streamsong. The luxury resort is the only place in the world to experience three distinct golf courses designed by the legendary architecture foursome of Coore/Crenshaw, Doak, and Hanse, and all in the Top 100 in the U.S. Golf at Streamsong is pure, the way the game was meant to be. Thanks to seamless integration of indigenous and awe-inspiring terrain, Streamsong’s 54 holes stretch across a landscape that contradicts their locale in the heart of the Sunshine State. Instead of flatland, towering sand dunes and surprising contours reign here. All three courses were designed with walking in mind to enjoy the dramatic elevations and distinct nuances of the unique course architecture. This philosophy encourages living in the moment, taking in the sights, sounds and settings of each round.
Streamsong® Red is a lake-dotted layout with striking landforms, rolling terrain and open savannah designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Streamsong® Blue, a course revered for its elevation changes, wild grass-lined fairways, and enormous bunkers that spill off towering sand dunes was designed by Tom Doak. Both courses recently converted their greens to the revolutionary, new ultradwarf Bermudagrass known as Mach 1, and reopened in October 2020. Recognized as one of the purest turfs in the industry, Mach 1 is a genetically strong and high-performing putting surface conducive to the state’s elements. Rounding out the group, Gil Hanse designed Streamsong® Black. The big, bold par-73 layout offers breathtaking views of the vast landscape, which includes the largest greens at Streamsong, flowing elevation, sand ridges and deep bunkering akin to the Sand Belt Region of Melbourne, Australia. Unlike Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue’s creatively
and expertly intertwined layouts, Streamsong Black stands alone as a proper complement. The highly anticipated course was revealed to the world in September 2017, earning top honors including GOLF Magazine’s “Best New Course of the Year.” The newest addition also features The Gauntlet, a dynamic twoacre putting course, and The Roundabout, a free-flowing sevenhole practice area. Golf is experiencing a resurgence due to the pandemic, courtesy of its wide-open spaces ideal for natural social distancing. Streamsong offers three of the most highly acclaimed and widely pursued courses in the game today. The remarkable golf is complemented by equally accomplished offerings beyond the fairways. Juxtaposed against the fauna are ultra-modern lakeside lodge accommodations featuring a grotto-style spa, and five unique restaurants and bars.
Streamsong’s guestrooms and suites are as soothing as they are inspiring, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass to showcase the spectacular water views that extend to the natural Florida horizon. In each of the rooms, architect and designer Alberto Alfonso – an established artist in his own right – created paintings to reflect the natural surroundings. Each guest room also presents a thoughtfully curated library including a copy of Patrick Smith’s novel, A Land Remembered. The classic was selected by Alfonso to encourage guests to get lost in Florida’s rich and rugged history. The immersive resort – built as a reclamation project – tells a similar story of land preservation, situated atop the remnants of a region of former mining land known as the “Bone Valley.” For the ultimate outdoorsman (or woman), pursuits atypical at a traditional Florida resort include a 12-station sporting clay course and archery targets. Serene lakes and streams offer best-in-class bass fishing, and nature trails introduce guests to the “locals” – alligators, turtles, rabbits and more. After a day on the links or the lake, true relaxation and rejuvenation are achieved at AcquaPietra™, the inspiring spa with six thermal pool experiences; sauna and steam room; and nine treatment rooms.
Streamsong is home to multiple dining experiences to delight every discerning palate. The elegant steak- and seafood-centric Restaurant Fifty-Nine serves all-day dining, prepared with the level of finesse required by the elusive golf score for which the restaurant is named. The newest venue, the casual Bone Valley Tavern is named as another ode to the resort foundation. Land and sea converge here on the new menu as they once did here in prehistoric times to provide a perfectly balanced epicurean experience. Bone Valley Tavern is the window to the region’s origins, boasting 360-degree views, fresh sustainable seafood, small plates and local craft cocktails. Other tastebud-tempting options include the fine dining SottaTerra serving contemporary Italian cuisine, the Florida-forward P2O5™ and rooftop Fragmentary Blue lounge mixing up hand-crafted cocktails. The resort is accessible via two international airports – Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA) – each a 75-minute, distraction-free drive away. Six nearby regional airports accommodate private aircraft, including Bartow Municipal and Lakeland Linder Regional. www.StreamsongResort.com

JW MARRIOTT MIAMI TURNBERRY RESORT & SPA WHERE SOUTH FLORIDA LOVES TO GOLF
Photography by JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa
A
t JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura, Florida, there are two world-class championship golf courses integrated into the very fabric of the property; enticing golfers of every skill level. Tucked away on 300 acres between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, “Turnberry” was first imagined by legendary developer and original owner Don Soffer in the 1960s after purchasing 1,000 acres of swampland. Legend has it that Soffer drew up the original plans for the city of Aventura as a condo community including a resort hotel, centered around 36 holes of championship golf, on the back of a cocktail napkin. Today Turnberry is part of the JW Marriott portfolio, with a culture of accessible luxury and enriching experiences, not the very least of which are its two golf courses entitled “Soffer” and “Miller.” Re-imagined from the original Trent Jones Sr. design from the 1970s by Raymond Floyd in 2005, the course was updated again as part of a $300 million renovation to the entire resort that was completed in 2019. Tee times are only available to resort guests and members of the club. The beauty of playing at Turnberry as a resort guest is that there’s no shuttle to catch and easy access to two beautiful courses literally steps from your room – or valet— if you’re a member. Miller plays like a traditional old school Florida country club course; with wide open greens, and long views it’s definitely player friendly. Offering six tee boxes (Soffer has five) from junior to the most challenging, it’s a course that anyone from a true beginner to a professional can enjoy. Soffer at 7000 yards long is a bit more celebrated and a bit more challenging, with more landscaping and narrower greens. The real wow factor here is the resort and city surrounding it; creating a sense of playing on an oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle. Turnberry head golf pro and golf operations director Sean Olson compared the surrounding visuals to playing in Dubai – with the attendant high-rise views; although the Miami skyline may not reach quite as high as the Burj Kalifa it’s still a sight that thrills.
Along the front 9 of the Miller course is Lake Julius, the largest and deepest body of water at the resort. It’s named in honor of Turnberry’s first golf operations director, legendary Hall of Famer Julius Boros; who used to enjoy fishing from time to time during his tenure there. Pink flamingos like to hang out by the lake, while bald eagles, Egyptian geese and swans are also often spotted on the fairways. The courses are carpeted in paspalum grass; which provide near perfect conditions and firm footing on the fairways and greens. That’s surely the reason it’s so often frequented by athletes and celebrities that take their golf game seriously like Michael Jordan, Ray Allen, Alonzo Mourning and Will Smith, to name a few. When we say that golf is integrated into the resort, that’s meant quite literally. Rooms provide stunning golf views, while holes 10, 11, 12, and 18 of the Miller course run alongside Tidal Cove, the expansive on property water park. The starter shack is just off the patio of its all-day restaurant Corsair, as is a double-sided driving range with chipping and putting greens. Corsair’s bar serves as a welcoming gathering spot for après drinks and snacks; roving beverage carts service both courses throughout the day.
For the golfer who wants a laid back but luxurious stay and the chance to play two courses without having to even leave the property, JW Marriott Miami Turnberry is the perfect destination. It’s also an exemplary locale for those wanting to get some tee time in on a family vacation – with so many amenities on property from âme -- the fullservice spa, to the water slides and rides at Tidal Cove, it’s easy to entertain the rest of a party that may not be keen on golfing. And for those who get the itch for entertainment, it’s the best of both worlds – although many guests never leave the property, this tropical gem is a quick ride away from the allure of Miami Beach or downtown Fort Lauderdale.

KIAWAH ISLAND GOLF RESORT A GOLFER’S PARADISE WRITTEN BY BRIAN HUNTER
U
nique among the string of barrier islands that stretch like a string of pearls along the South Carolina coastline, one island strikes a perfect balance between its built and natural environments. Kiawah Island, situated on a long, narrow island roughly shaped like a comma lounging on its side, is separated from the high-octane energy of Charleston’s historic peninsula by several islands they share as neighbors. Nature bestowed Kiawah Island, which consists of roughly 10,000 acres, with a 10-mile long stretch of wide, pristine beach. Only 21 miles of road separate Charleston from The Sanctuary, Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s 255-room and suite hotel, which has earned Five Star and Five Diamond status from Forbes Travel Guide and AAA, respectively. Hidden from view by a tunnel of moss-shrouded live oaks, the hotel reveals itself suddenly as a grand seaside mansion that has secured its place for centuries, an apparition as the hotel was only completed in 2004. Walking through the grand front entrance, the eye immediately sweeps across the antiques-filled lobby to a bank of soaring windows that usher in a view of a manicured Grand Lawn that terminates at the dunes overlooking the beach. The Sanctuary could well be approached as a resort within a resort. Its fortunate guests could justifiably yield to the temptation to ensconce themselves in its blissfully relaxing spa (also rated Five Forbes Stars), several distinct restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, chic boutiques and dedicated beach boardwalk. Even lounging on the beach or by the pool, guests are spoiled with attentive service from a hospitable staff who ply them with chairs-and-umbrellas, tropical drinks and Latin Caribbean-inspired fare. Yet, while the aptly named Sanctuary presides at the island’s midway point, guests who limit themselves to the hotel would miss out on so much of the resort’s charm.
Complementing The Sanctuary, nearly 500 Resort Villas and Private Homes offer a host of accommodations. These lodging options run the gamut in size from one-bedroom attached villas to eight-bedroom mansions on estate lots that can accommodate up to 18 guests. Villa and home guests can arrange to have their larders pre-stocked with groceries, and delectable chef-catered meals can be arranged as well. It’s no mistake that Golf constitutes one-fourth of the resort’s name. Five championship courses wind across the islands from east to west, truly a golfer’s paradise. Anchored by Pete Dye’s The Ocean Course, which earned immediate iconic status in 1991 when it hosted the Ryder Cup, each course bears the unmistakable imprint of its architect’s design philosophy. The result: in addition to The Ocean Course (which hosts the PGA Championship for the second time this May), the resort is home to four other distinctive courses by Tom Fazio (Osprey Point), Jack Nicklaus (Turtle Point), Gary Player (Cougar Point) and Clyde Johnston (Oak Point). Golfers can correct nagging aspects of their game at the Tommy Cuthbert Golf Learning Center. Slated for completion this spring, four four-bedroom cottages tucked beside The Ocean Course Clubhouse and overlooking the driving range and the beach beyond will provide golfers a fully immersive Ocean Course golf experience.
For guests who prefer swinging a racquet, the internationally acclaimed Roy Barth Tennis Center should not be missed. In addition to offering guests informal court time, the center also provides world-class tutelage and clinics for all skill levels and age groups. Rare for when the resort was first developed in the mid1970s, from its inception Kiawah Island has endeavored to leave a minimal footprint at this lush, richly diverse natural oasis. A good way to experience the results of this environmental stewardship is to strike out by bicycle on the 30-plus miles of paved trails linking the island from west to east. As visually alert guests pedal through maritime forest and across expansive salt marshes, they witness the island’s abundance of wildlife – majestic eagles, ghostly egrets, white-tailed deer and (with a special stroke of luck) a shy, skittering bobcat. The resort’s iconic green beach cruisers, available from multiple stations throughout the island or delivered directly to individual houses or villas, are welladapted for riding on the hard-packed sand of the beach below the tideline. Surveying the natural wonders of the island by land only provides a partial picture. Guests must take to the water for a full appreciation. The resort offers chartered boat excursions on the Kiawah River. Captained by one of the resort’s naturalists, the cruises open a window to the abundance of creatures that make their home in and on the river and creeks and the salt marsh that contains their banks. For an even closer, dolphin-level view, guests may opt to take a guided kayak or stand-up paddleboard excursion. Both boating and kayak or SUP trips leave from the resort’s dock at Mingo Point, a beguiling site embraced by a gentle bend of the Kiawah River. Also serving as an outdoor event venue, Mingo Point hosts one of the resort’s enduring authentic Lowcountry traditions, a weekly (in-season) oyster roast and barbecue complete with live music, crafts, local artisans and other family-friendly entertainment. With other age-appropriate outdoors and nature activities, guests of all ages can explore an array of pursuits from archery to art, bird-watching to gator walks. Staffed by resort naturalists, Heron Park Nature Center contains both live and preserved native specimens, providing an introduction to the island’s wildlife. It is also a great place to learn about and reserve any of the resort’s abundant recreational activities, as well as serving as HQ for the report’s robust Kamp Kiawah programs for children. Gourmands will not feel the least bit slighted as the resort remains a culinary gem. More than a dozen restaurants take full advantage of the bounties of the island’s fisheries and fresh produce of small farms on neighboring Johns, Wadmalaw and Edisto islands. Guests will experience everything from exquisite wine-paired dinners to casual beach- or pool-side fare. As if you weren’t already deep enough in R&R mode, settling in, refreshing drink in hand, on one of the resort’s many restaurant porches and watching the sinking sun paint the broad sky vermillion and orange before a sumptuous meal will surely place you firmly in island time. And you will thank your lucky stars.

GRAYHAWK GOLF CLUB 36 HOLES OF TOUR-TESTED GOLF
G
rayhawk Golf Club opened for play in 1994, as the high-end daily fee, memberfor-a-day movement hatched. Talon debuted first and Raptor took flight a year later. The timing couldn’t have been better. As the industry mobilized to meet swelling popularity, Grayhawk emerged with a unique, edgy golf experience driven by the type of service and conditions usually found at private clubs. It all started for the public club with the first and only director of golf, Joe “Shoe” Shershenovich, although he’d be the first to divert credit to founders, Gregg Tryhus and Del Cochran. “Gregg and Del sat down and thought about the things they would like in a club. They wanted a place that takes the game seriously, the lifestyle and service seriously, but have the freedom to create a very different experience,” said Shoe. “Hosting special events, and having fun doing it, also was a big part of the vision.” They usually set up Raptor for championships, which makes the worn-out “championship course” cliché actually ring true in this case. They even “twisted the arm” of then ASU prodigy Phil Mickelson to become the club’s ambassador, and he still sports Grayhawk’s logo on his bag to this day.
The first professional tournament at Grayhawk, now known as the WGC-Dell Match Play, hosted 1995, 1997 and 1998, featured the likes of Greg Norman and Colin Montgomerie as champions. In 2000, Grayhawk hosted the predecessor of the Hero World Challenge; Tom Lehman won by three over David Duval, for those keeping score. The 2004 and 2005 Tommy Bahama Challenges pitted Americans versus internationals “coached” by Gary McCord and David Feherty. Then from 2007 to 2009, the Frys.com Open came to Grayhawk, making Raptor the only course outside of TPC Scottsdale to host a PGA TOUR tournament. Most notably, 2003 Masters Champion, Mike Weir, won the first one. Although the pros get most of the attention, Grayhawk supports amateur golf, too. For the next three years (’21-’23), Raptor will host the big dance – NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championship. And 60,000 boys and girls on teams spanning all 50 states make their way through local and regional qualifiers to compete in the PGA Jr League Championship.
“We’ve ended up covering a wide range,” said Shoe. “Youngsters could potentially play here at the PGA Jr League Championship, then the NCAAs and maybe even another PGA TOUR event someday.” The innovation didn’t stop with the burly lineup of tournaments. The clubhouse itself – which opened alongside Raptor – raised eyebrows at the time, especially for an entirely public club. It’s a timber-beam, stacked-stone beauty with the Golf Shop and Trading Company as the pearl. Much more than a place to get a sleeve of balls, the keen and current style and eclectic offerings deliver a unique, pure-retail experience anyone can appreciate, even the most discerning guests. Like the golf shop, the restaurants attract golfers and non-golfers alike. The innovative indoor-outdoor patios designed with the wonderful Scottsdale weather in mind are particularly appealing. The Quill Creek Café overlooks Raptor and the McDowell Mountains, ablaze every afternoon with the purple hues of sunset. Featuring similar views, Phil’s Grill is a comfortable sports pub with a collection of Lefty’s memorabilia on display: Ryder Cup gear; Sun Devils-era persimmon driver; Masters pin flags; and a Talon courserecord scorecard, 61, with more circles than a bowl of Cheerios. “F&B and retail used to be for practical stuff like golf balls or a quick bite to eat at the turn,” said Shoe. “We elevated both to enhance the golf experience. Coffee at Mojos, shopping, cold beer in Phil’s. You can make a day of it. Take it all in.” Years after opening, things settled into a rhythm until Grayhawk kicked up a bunch of dust in 2012 with the opening of Isabella’s Kitchen just across Thompson Peak Parkway from the clubhouse. Fueled by the same indoor-outdoor living, the bar/restaurant/patio, which overlooks Talon, took off like a rocket on a slightly different trajectory than the clubhouse restaurants to become a North Scottsdale hotspot. Shoe explained that the “greens are fast and hard” at Isabella’s Kitchen, while at the other end of the golf analogy, Quill Creek Café and Phil’s Grill offer a “tamer” ambiance. Just depends on the mood. About the same time “Izzy’s” opened, Grayhawk launched the Morning Joint, a.k.a. “Mojo,” after converting a banquet room into a coffee shop. Part patio and part living room, it’s popular among golfers and locals alike. As Shoe alluded, every round of golf at Grayhawk comes with a healthy side of the Scottsdale’s Sonoran Desert lifestyle. Golf, shopping, dining or just hanging out at Mojo or Phil’s with family and friends: the Grayhawk experience has settled into the broader golf community for the last quarter century. At the same time hundreds of golf’s best competed for championships, hundreds of thousands of everyday golfers were also competing for pride. That’s the beauty of Grayhawk: It’s 36 holes of tour-tested golf are open to everyone.

PEBBLE BEACH A LEGEND UPS ITS GAME
W
ith a stunning California coastal setting and a guaranteed spot on every golfer’s must-play list, one might think Pebble Beach Resorts could rest on its laurels. But keeping the experience fresh for its guests and members has been a Pebble Beach hallmark for more than 100 years, and this year is no different, as the resort rolls out a major enhancement to its famed golf portfolio this spring: a new short course created in partnership with Tiger Woods and his TGR Design firm. And that’s not all there is to discover, as the brand-new Sloat Building at The Lodge offers guests a literal window to a never-before-seen view of Stillwater Cove. A Reimagined Short Course The new nine-hole, par three course is located on the site of the former Peter Hay Golf Course, tucked between the Pebble Beach Golf Academy and the first tee of America’s #1 public course: the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links. Also part of the new facility are a 20,000-square-foot
putting course and, slated for a mid-year opening, a food and beverage venue with the resort’s largest outdoor patio. Although the course itself has been completely transformed, its spirit advances the legacy of its original creator, the Scottishborn Peter Hay. During his many years as the head professional at Pebble Beach and Del Monte, Hay was a fierce ambassador for the game he loved. It was in part because of his dedication to bringing newcomers—and particularly juniors—into the world of golf that Pebble Beach Company approached him in 1957 to develop one of the country’s first short courses. In his redesign of Hays’ original course, Tiger Woods has amplified the Scotsman’s vision in a way few could have imagined. Every aspect of the course has been designed for playability and to encourage creativity. The result is a golf experience that promises to draw new players to the game, bring families together, and provide a fun challenge for players of all ages, abilities and skill levels—from first-timers to low-handicappers.
A Milestone Round Woods has reoriented the routing of the entire course to take full advantage of the property’s incomparable views. Four of the new holes now play directly toward Carmel Bay, creating a neverending visual treat for golfers. For eight of the nine holes, yardage corresponds to a significant year in Pebble Beach history, with plaques on each tee telling the story. The notable exception is Hole #2. For this hole, Woods created an exact replica of Pebble Beach Golf Links’ legendary 7th (absent the cliffs of Arrowhead Point)—making one of golf’s most iconic experiences accessible to more people. The new 20,000-square-foot putting course is the perfect place to introduce a beginner to the game or for an avid player to sharpen their skills, ramp up competitive juices or unwind before dinner, and anything in between. Open to the public at no charge. A 5,000-square-foot restaurant will feature a full kitchen and bar, with indoor and outdoor seating. The resort’s largest outdoor patio will be outfitted with firepits and positioned for expansive views of the short course, putting course, Carmel Bay and Point Lobos.
Booking It Green fees for the short course are $65 for the general public and resort guests, $40 for residents of the Del Monte Forest, $30 for teens, and complimentary for juniors 12 and under. Youth on Course members through age 18 can play for $5. Re-rounds are available at a 50% discount and annual memberships are available through the Pebble Beach Practice Facility. The course is also available for group events and buyouts. To book, call 866-214-8180. A Room with a View Resort guests who come to check out the short course can be among the first to stay in the brand-new Sloat Building at The Lodge. Mere steps from Stillwater Cove, the Sloat Building is home to Pebble Beach’s most spectacular views yet. The ocean beckons from every one of its 26 rooms, where guests enjoy all the signature amenities and services that define the Pebble Beach resort experience. But it’s the five luxury suites that are the Sloat Building’s true showstoppers. Occupying the end of the building on the first, second and third floors, three Sloat Suites directly overlook the cove through wraparound, floor-to-ceiling windows, affording panoramic vistas that extend from the water to the 18th green of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Two additional suites, the Vizcaino Suites, are in the center of the building. All five suites measure over 1,300 square feet and feature king bedrooms with the ability to connect a second bedroom to create a two-bedroom suite, large living areas with entertainment seating, and a separate guest bath with shower off the living area. Private patios and balconies with lounge seating invite guests to step out to savor the view and coastal breeze over morning coffee or evening cocktails. Vaulted ceilings add to the expansive feel of the suites while clerestory windows maximize natural light. And at the end of the day, gas-burning fireplaces in the bedrooms and living areas add the perfect cozy touch to come home to on a cool California night.

THE BOULDERS RESORT & SPA SCOTTSDALE AN EXCLUSIVE DESERT HIDEAWAY
F
ew resorts in the world can match the extraordinary natural setting of the Boulders Resort located within the high Sonoran Desert of Carefree Arizona, the lushest desert on the planet and framed by spectacular mountains. The Boulders combines inspiring golf, an exceptional spa, luxurious accommodations and natural beauty to produce an exclusive desert hideaway. Renowned for the 12-million-year-old boulder formations that dot the landscape and dramatic architecture, luxurious Casitas and 1-3 bedroom Villas are shaped into the natural terrain and offer wood-burning fireplaces and private patios that afford stunning desert or golf course views. Everything blends so seamlessly with the surrounding desert landscape that--like a mirage--the resort seems to have emerged from the Sonoran Desert, an offspring of the ancient boulders! Carefully placed within the midst of this desert hideaway are two Jay Morrish-designed championship golf courses with 36 holes of challenging golf. They considered some of the most demanding in the Southwest and are known for their rugged beauty and breathtaking panoramas where giant saguaro cacti stand like guardians and indigenous plants in vibrant color add to the eye-popping setting. The Boulders golf courses have proudly received dozens of awards including Golf Magazine’s outstanding Platinum Medal honoring golf’s finest properties and Golf Digest’s “Best Golf Resort in the Southwest.”
The two signature holes are No. 5 on the South Course, where the green is carved from a dramatic rock outcropping making it one of the most photographed holes in the country. No. 7 on the South Course is a par-3 and Rosie’s Rock, a gigantic boulder that sits precariously atop a tiny one, is just an arm’s length from golfers on the tee. The North Course is par 72 with five sets of tees measuring in distance and slope 6811 yards/137 slope, 6293 yards/131 slope, 5879 yards/124 slope for men and 132 for ladies 5440 yards /126 slope and 4900 yards with a slope of 115 playing from the red tees. The South Course is par 72 with five sets of tees measuring in distance and slope 6726 yards/140 slope, 6246 yards/134 slope, 5642 yards/119 slope for men. 139 for ladies, 5119 yards /125 slope and 4684 yards with a slope of 117 playing from the red tees. The Boulders Golf Academy offers private, oneon-one instruction with talented PGA and LPGA instructors to cover the full swing, chipping, pitching, putting and sand play using digital video analysis and on-course playing lessons.
While the Boulders Resort is renowned as a world-class golf resort, this extraordinary desert hideaway is situated on 1,300 acres with a host of outdoor adventure activities. Adventurous guests can take a rock climbing clinic, desert hikes and mountain biking, a hot-air balloon ride, a desert jeep tour, desert fly fishing or a guided night-time bike tour to witness the quiet desert landscape lit up by the multitudes of bright stars throughout the sky. There are also guided tours such as the Sonoran Explorin, a nature and wildlife one-hour tour via golf cart where guests can learn desert survival tips and the sounds, tastes and sights of the region. The Desert Photography Tour led by the resort’s Nature Photographer or the Walk the Rock tour to learn more about the surrounding ancient boulders that are the resort’s namesake. At the Boulders Tennis Garden’s, guests can play tennis or pickleball on the three classic clay courts and five premier cushion courts—not to mention enjoy even more exquisite views. The pro shop has the latest in fashion and equipment, stringing services, racquet and ball rental. To take the game up a notch, there are two fulltime tennis professionals that conduct private instruction and weekly clinics.
The 33,000 square foot Spa at the Boulders offers wellness services and self-guided experiences that allow guests to fully de-stress and reset. To supplement a massage, facial and other services from the spa menu, guests are encouraged to venture outdoors and take time to connect with the earth and draw inspiration from our surrounding rock formations and the special space and energy of this extraordinary setting at three dedicated meditation areas. The 2,000 square foot Fitness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment to help with building strength, balance, flexibility and weight reduction. Complimentary fitness classes also take place in the Movement Studio and Pilates Studio. There is a circular tearoom, a dedicated Spa Café, and Wellness classrooms that offer seasonal healthy cooking classes. Guests can simply relax and unwind at one of four swimming pools
and embrace the resort’s peaceful environment and feel a million-milesaway-from-everywhere. FROST CREEK EAGLE, COLORADO
F
rost Creek is a luxury four season mountain club located in the Brush Creek Valley near Eagle, CO. The club features a Tom Weiskopf-designed mountain golf course, a 40,000 square foot clubhouse, custom homesites and pre-sale homes, private flyfishing access on adjacent Brush Creek and in stocked ponds, and more than 25 mountain lifestyle activities including SUP boards, electric mountain bikes and a member Jeep for off road excursions. In addition, luxury on-site member cabins are available to National Members and their guests while visiting Frost Creek. The Club, which celebrated its 5th anniversary last year, saw a significant increase in membership and real estate sales in 2020. Interest started strong early in golf season 2020 and gained momentum throughout the year. That momentum continues in 2021. In 2020, Frost Creek sold (or is under contract to sell) 27 homesites, 17 presale homes in the Club’s Hunter’s View neighborhood and 100 local and national club memberships. In the instance of homes at Hunter’s View, the first phase of presale homes included 15 residences. In Q4 of 2020, phase one sold out and ownership decided to begin taking contracts on the phase two release, previously scheduled for launch in early 2021. “Sales and interest were hard to keep up with this year,” said Kakie Holland, director of sales at Frost Creek. “Frost Creek’s notoriety and demand has grown each year, but this year it was as if people really found us and recognized how extraordinarily different what we have to offer is.” Holland said many new members commented on the easy access to Frost Creek from Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) and the Vail Valley Jet Center (located less than 13 miles away). At the same time, she said that the rural tranquility was also a draw. Another shift is that a large portion of the club’s new membership lives outside Colorado and they took advantage of the ability to work from anywhere in 2020. For some members, the Club has become-or soon will be-home, for all it’s become a sanctuary.
“Frost Creek has gained momentum each year and our golf course has a reputation as one of Colorado’s top courses. In fact, Frost Creek was recently ranked by Golfweek as #6 on its list of Top 10 Private Courses in Colorado,” Holland said. “Golf is still the number one draw to Frost Creek.” Ben Welsh, Frost Creek’s Head Professional, and 2020 Colorado PGA Golf Professional of the Year, loves to share his knowledge of golf and Weiskopf’s course design at Frost Creek with people; he has a passion for the game. Welsh is energetic and approachable with an earned reputation and pedigree as one of Colorado’s top golf professionals. “Playing golf at Frost Creek reminds you of all the best parts of the game of golf,” Welsh said. “The serenity of the mountain setting and wildlife viewings coupled with the immaculate course conditions make every round an experience of its own. The course is pure enough to entertain the best players and generous enough to not intimidate less experienced players or those new to golf.” Weiskopf’s course design at Frost Creek differs from other Vail Valley courses in that it has two distinct settings for the front and back nine holes. The high desert front nine is wide open with wide fairways, large greens and long vistas. The back nine settles in along Brush Creek with less elevation change but more shape and a meandering feel to the holes. The back nine features water on eight holes.
“I particularly love the hole #1. Most people get ‘first tee jitters’ and this is the perfect way to start playing Frost Creek,” Welsh explained. “The fairway sets up with a visually challenging look but is much wider than you think. Longer hitters can challenge the bunkers for a shorter shot to the green. It’s a chance to start your round with a birdie. If it doesn’t work out, there is plenty of room to bail out safely and at least start your round with a ball in the fairway.” Frost Creek is committed to keeping the integrity of the Tom Weiskopf design while accommodating all abilities of play. The course offers five main sets of tees and four combo tee options to appeal to all types of golfers. A few years ago, the club added four more forward tees on holes #1, #7, #8 and #17 to accommodate the shortest of hitters. Today, Frost Creek has something to offer everyone in the family from the low handicapped, serious golfers to the novice or even non-golfer. In addition to the immaculate golf course, the array of off-course activities, incredible dining and lodging experiences make Frost Creek the perfect sanctuary for relaxing and reconnecting with friends and family. For information about club membership and real estate offerings at Frost Creek, contact Frost Creek Realty, LLC via Kakie Holland, director of sales, at 970-455-3072 or kholland@frostcreek.com or visit www.FrostCreek.com.

PXG THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON
“I
want a golf club that looks like a blade. Plays like a cavity back. Launches higher. Goes farther. Feels amazing. Is incredibly forgiving. And is unbelievably sexy.”
It’s the unusual charter devised by Bob Parsons that set the wheels in motion for what is now a global phenomenon - PXG. PXG founder and CEO, Bob Parsons’ passion for golf and obsession with the tools of the trade came to a head following a serendipitous nine holes when he met former PGA TOUR player and golf club designer, Mike Nicolette. The two struck up a friendship and an ongoing dialog about equipment. A few years later Parsons established Scottsdale National Research Center, which would eventually become PXG, bringing Nicolette and Brad Schweigert on board to explore the science behind the equipment industry. From go, PXG has been a very different kind of equipment manufacturer. Fundamentally the company bears little relation to the established big beasts of the golf equipment market. It boasts a no cost constraints, no time constraints approach to product engineering, and maintains an unapologetic focus on performance. It’s mission … to unlock the potential of existing and new technologies to develop and deliver the world’s finest golf equipment. The resounding difference – a company determined to elevate individual performance and increase enjoyment on the course. To get the ball rolling and tick the first box in Parsons’ lofty charter, “looks like a blade, plays like a cavity back,” the team determined that a hollow-body design was required. The challenge, hollow-body irons feel like swinging a lead pipe. Parsons, thinking about his service as a U.S. Marine Corps 0311 Combat Rifleman during the Vietnam War, suggested the cavity be filled with something like sorbothane, frequently found in the butt of a rifle to absorb recoil.
Bang! The “aha” moment inspired an engineering breakthrough that would not only put PXG on the map, but also turn the golf industry on its head. PXG 0311 Irons debuted an injection molded TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) core, a not so sexy name for a material that added a whole new level of “wow” to striking a golf ball.
actually put in play on the PGA TOUR by Ryan Moore months before the company ever sold a stick.
A similar moment inspired PXG’s signature industrial look. To demonstrate mass properties in layman’s terms, Schweigert drilled holes in a club head and manually added weights around the perimeter. Not only did the perimeter weighting achieve the performance goals desired, the look stopped Parsons in his tracks. Tick! Tick! The weights were distinctive, functional and 100% PXG. And so, across the board, visible weighting became PXG’s calling card.
From day one, PXG’s fitting specialists have been considered among the best in the business. They are both product and fitting experts, trained by the engineers who had a hand in designing PXG clubs. And, like Parsons, they’re golf enthusiasts. The process first offers a comprehensive overview of a player’s current setup, natural tendencies, and personal goals. During the data rich experience, fitters also look to identify the metrics that will help each golfer put together consistently better rounds. Whether fitted in-person or over the phone, the one-on-one experience leaves you thinking, “why would anyone purchase golf clubs off the rack?”
These two pivotal moments and a series of others laid the foundation for the introduction of PXG’s groundbreaking technology. Technology so good, it was
With every club engineered to be customized, a personalized fitting experience is the standard for PXG. Which means, effectively, no two sets of PXG clubs are exactly alike.
Following a fitting, club specifications are provided to PXG’s master builders. These guys are true craftsmen – the tailors, blacksmiths and brewers of golf. They assemble every club with painstaking care and precision. Once built and closely inspected, clubs are black-boxed and prepared for delivery. So out of an unusual charter rises the best opportunity that technology currently allows for golfers to maximize their game on the course. PXG currently offers a full lineup of high-performance drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters, PXG GEN4 Golf Clubs. The future of golf club performance has arrived with the all-new PXG GEN4 Golf Clubs, the product of years of research and testing, combining specialized materials never before used in golf to produce incredible sound and feel, unbelievable forgiveness, explosive distance, and drop-dead sexy looks. TOUR GREENS 25 YEARS OF TOUR QUALITY PUTTING GREENS
W
hen Steve White finished his collegiate golf career at Clemson University and elevated his practice routine in hopes of making the PGA tour, he never thought he would end up in the synthetic grass business - much less building Tour Greens, the nation’s leading designer and builder of Tour-quality commercial and backyard putting greens. But after 25 years, that is just what he has done. He dedicated himself to designing and building the world’s best synthetic grass putting greens and founded The Putting Green Company when other golfers in the area started asking him to build greens in their backyards.
Around the same time, former PGA Tour Champion Kenny Knox had started his own putting green business named Tour Greens. Known for his superior putting ability, Knox had used his expertise in putting and construction to design backyard putting greens for many current and former PGA professionals. Eventually, Steve took all of this knowledge and experience and with the help of a new business partner, bought Tour Greens from Knox and combined it with his company to create what is Tour Greens today. As Tour Greens celebrates 25 years, it has evolved into a company that is redefining backyard luxury, leisure and training.
Staying true to its heritage, Tour Greens remains committed to providing tour-quality, synthetic grass putting greens in which one can practice their entire short game. The company recently partnered with the Arnold Palmer Design Company and has completed short game practice facilities at the homes of PGA professionals Brendan Todd and Abraham Ancer. Its extensive investments in every critical element of the manufacturing process along with its commitment to design have made it the choice of the Pros. Throughout its journey, Tour Greens realized that even those not playing on or aspiring to be on the tour, appreciate the performance, appearance and fun associated with their backyard putting greens.
From the executive looking for a quiet place to unwind after a long day at the office to busy parents wanting a fun and engaging place to play with their kids, the demand for backyard putting greens is strong as ever. “Today’s greens come in all shapes and sizes. One project may call for re-creating the 12th at Augusta and another ask for a green in the shape of a tooth,” says Steve. “Whatever the design, we’re creating complete backyard practice facilities with multiple turf cuts, bunkers and tee boxes built for practicing virtually every shot one can imagine.” As a member of the Recreational Group family of companies, Tour Greens is also helping people “Bring the Fun Home.” Choosing from RG’s full array of backyard amenities, homeowners can transform their space with a variety of synthetic grass solutions like bocce courts and backyard playgrounds to innovative, VersaCourt game courts. This versatile product line is being used to create everything from stand-alone basketball, shuffleboard and pickleball courts to complete multi-sport game courts.

OIL NUT BAY A LUXURY LAUNCH PAD TO THE BVI
T
he British Virgin Islands have long sent a siren song to salty seafarers both near and far. The area’s spectacular innate beauty, it’s even-tempered weather and easygoing, undulating ocean paint a picture that is pretty much impossible to fault. Scatter this canvas with emerald islands, white sand beaches, tropical sunlight and the ever-present trade winds and you have the destination that dreams are made of. The aforementioned trade winds blow at varying strengths year round, moderating the tropical rainforest climate and resulting in temperate ocean and air temperatures ten months of the year. The BVI certainly deserves its title as the boating capital of the world. Carefree Cruising Aptly named after the epic adventurer, the Sir Francis Drake Channel runs the length of the British Virgin Islands and offers no end of protected passages in and around Tortola, Virgin Gorda and the neighboring islands. This makes boating in the BVI not only breathtakingly beautiful, but also exceptionally safe for both seasoned sailors and absolute beginners. The proximity of one island to the next means tomorrow’s anchorage is always in plain sight, making for carefree cruising from one blissful spot to the next. The islands, with the exception of coral- and limestone-formed Anegada, were once part of a submerged mountain range created through volcanic activity, so are dramatic and diverse in their topography. Unlike many comparable tropical destinations, the islands under British jurisdiction are neither overcrowded nor commercialized. In fact, of the 60 islands, cays and rocks that form the archipelago, only 15 or so are inhabited. The BVI offers not only beaches but rainforest, salt ponds, mangroves and miles of coral reef to explore. The entire area is peppered with stunning, secret spots, and the voyage to locate them is just as delightful as the discovery.
A Heavenly Home Base While there are few Caribbean getaways that capture the essence of the islands better than a week aboard a charter yacht, the salt life is not for everyone. Though many of us still crave the wild wind in our hair, sharing a head is a hard pass, we want a truly dry towel after a truly hot shower, and a bed with a pocket-sprung mattress. And in that there is no shame. A boating vacation, to our minds, can mean buzzing from one tropical highlight to the next, spending all day island hopping and exploring, then returning to home base where an in-suite massage, delectable dining experience and king bed await. Spread across 400 consciouslypreserved acres on the northeasterly tip of Virgin Gorda rests an opulent home base from which to adventure. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, Oil Nut Bay is a luxury, multi-generational community like no other. The property offers a collection of secluded villas and suites, each with their own private kitchen, laundry, swimming pool, and lushly landscaped grounds, as well as the option of full concierge, personal chef, housekeeping and butler services. Resort amenities are first-class. This dynamite destination boasts a variety of recreational adventures, unique experiences, both fine and informal dining opportunities, and a wide range of health and wellness services. On days when you feel like a brief boating break, pursuits such as hiking and yoga, snorkeling, kayaking, kitesurfing, and fishing are all at our finger tips.
State-of-the-Art Marina Oil Nut Bay’s positioning in the coveted North Sound region of Virgin Gorda make it the ideal base from which to explore the rest of the archipelago. Your journey begins at the Marina. Tucked into the protected inlet of Deep Bay, Oil Nut Bay’s marina offers secure alongside mooring for yachts up to 130 feet (40 meters) and a draft of up to 10 feet (3 meters). Berths are privately owned by Oil Nut Bay homeowners and can be reserved for anything from a single night up to your entire stay. Ten mooring balls are available in Deep Bay for boats up to 120 feet (37 meters). The property’s dedicated Dock Master provides concierge Marina services, including top-notch utilities, double reverse osmosis potable water, ice, provisioning services and a helipad accommodating two twin-jet helicopters for residents and guests. Deep Bay has two access routes all mapped out – one for regular draft vessels and another for those that require a little more draft than usual.
The Marina neighborhood is a hub of hustle and bustle, anchored by island chic bar and restaurant Nova. The very essence of easy-going island elegance, Nova offers al fresco dining, ocean-side lounge spaces, overwater hammocks and daybeds, a suspended swimming pool and designer bar serving the best handcrafted cocktails this side of the equator. Beyond this is a coffee shop, provisioning market, island boutique and games room. Marina expansion plans are currently underway and by December 2021 a day spa will be added to the neighborhood’s offerings.
If luxury land living with a direct line of sight to your boat is what you’re looking for, then the Marina Villas are right up your alley. These contemporary, beautifully-appointed two-bedroom villas sit just above the Marina Village and are mere steps away from the docks, decadent dining and a little indulgent retail therapy. When it comes to planning the perfect vacation, it’s often impossible to please everyone. But the best of both worlds does collide. Oil Nut Bay is the perfect pairing of land and sea, luxury and adventure to satisfy all preferences and partialities. Start planning your family vacation now!

S
ituated on an 18th century sugar plantation in St. Lucia, Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort is graced by majestic views with effervescent scenery. If you are a traveler who values privacy, this undisturbed property sitting on extensive acreage of rainforest on the Caribbean Sea is ideal for you. Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort is home to an array of differing accommodations that exclusively come with their own private pools. The property’s breathtaking surroundings allows travelers to immerse themselves in nature through a curated wellness journey. The Rainforest Spa is very unique as each treatment room is its own individual treehouse in the forest - widely regarded as the island’s spiritual heart. The lush foliage and soaring mountain vistas of Val des Pitons provide the perfect backdrop for the stunning spa. Signature wellness experiences
celebrate the property’s natural surrounding and native ingredients including bamboo massages, hot rock therapies, holistic treatments, each harnessing the ingredients of nearby volcanic springs and fertile cocoa plantations. Spa goers can enjoy the amenities such as a wetroom with manicure and pedicure facilities, a relaxation pavilion, and an earthen Amerindian steam dome—known as a Temazcal — which reconnects the spa to the island’s earliest settlers. The wellness experience at Sugar Beach does not stop at The Rainforest Spa. The fitness center on this property is perfectly suited for those who enjoy an active lifestyle and is fully furnished with top-tier equipment and amenities including complimentary water, fresh fruit, towels, hand towels, and sanitizer.
This property is not one that is strictly reserved for short time stays. Catering to the demand of how guests are currently traveling, Sugar Beach has introduced a new extended stay experience allowing guests to work in paradise. The new “Work From Hotel” package transforms your office into a luxurious suite with astonishing ocean views, complimentary Wi-Fi, and paradise right at your fingertips. A plethora of luxury amenities are included in the package including VIP round-trip airport transfers, a private butler for the duration of the stay, a private cabana with fresh fruit and water, one 50-minute Swedish massage, and more. Also in tune with how Jetsetters are traveling in 2021, the property has partnered with several private jet companies including Private Jet Services (PJS) and XO jets, to offer packages for those who want a door-to-door private travel experience. Each of these companies offer discounted rates, premium customer service, and a personally designed flying experience making your vacation seamless and celestial. With customer satisfaction and safety at the forefront, Sugar Beach has COVID-19 protocols in place to ensure that guests remain in good health throughout their stay. Frequently touched areas are frequently sanitized, social distancing requirements are outlined throughout the facility, to-go food and beverage services are readily available, and other CDC recommendations are implemented throughout the property to guarantee the safety of not only the guests but the employees as well. The property is also now offering on-site testing for a seamless travel experience for guests. Beyond Sugar Beach, for those looking to explore the island, St. Lucia provides experiences that tend to three of nature’s elements: water, land, and air. For adventure seekers and outdoor lovers, this island offers a seemingly endless amount of activities to keep guests entertained throughout their entire stay. ATV biking, horseback riding, whale and dolphin watching, and canopy ziplining are only a few among the many excursions visitors have the opportunity to revel in.
