You have people visiting here coming from a state where its illegal, so a lot of times they are very shy and hesitant about cannabis, and it is important for us to help them with building knowledge of this product that they can take home and share with their friends and families,” Gunsallus says. “That’s why the responsibility of this is so important because for a lot of people this is their first step into cannabis, and we want them to have a good experience, and not turn them off so they never try it again,” she explains. “We are working very hard to change peoples’ perception of what cannabis is all about and changing the image of what people think of this industry and that’s a big responsibility.”

When Brenda Gunsallus and her partners decided to open CannaStarz they wanted to present tourists with an Old Vegas feel that capitalized on the city’s hospitality expertise while educating them at the same time. “We set CannaStarz up to be an old Las Vegas lounge type of experience, so our customers get the feel of what Las Vegas used to be like. It’s first class, we are very proud of how it turned out. Sahara Avenue connotes a recreational experience, the team at Sahara Wellness is all about the medical aspects of cannabis. “We cater to medical patients by offering medical prices and we try to carry the medical products that a lot of the dispensaries are not carrying anymore,” explains owner/ operator Brenda Gunsallus. “The medical patients also have their own window, and we take them first. They always receive first priority check out.”

In addition to affordable medicine, Sahara Wellness wants its customers to receive exceptional service. “We believe in offering a customer service experience that’s similar to your local bar where we know your name. When our customers come in, we try to give them great customer service and find out about their needs. To further cater to the locals’ market, Vegas Treehouse offers a discount of 15% off every Sunday, called Sin City Sunday, to all Las Vegas residents.

But in the end Romero believes personalized service is tantamount to being the locals’ choice. “I want our customers to feel like it’s their neighborhood shop. We like to greet people by name. We have a lot of regulars who come in and we already know exactly what they are looking for,” she says. “We are going for the personalized experience where you feel like it’s your neighborhood deli, and you know everyone there and that everyone there is going to be transparent with you about any questions you have. And we are always going to give you the best deal.”
