SKIING Q+A What are the snow conditions and weather like at Kingfisher Heli?
The Kingfisher terrain sits in the interior of the province, which provides us with the perfect mix of continental air temperatures and coastal moisture influences for ideal snow quality and quantity. Our annual snowfall averages 60 feet of light, fluffy powder over the course of the season. Temperatures in the winter months usually stay between 23 and 14°F (-5 and -10°C).
How would you describe the terrain?
Expect boundless pillow lines, perfectly spaced old-growth cedar forests, and wide-open bowls. Our expert Guide Team will create the perfect ski itinerary for your group, so no matter how you choose to approach the terrain, you’ll experience untouched lines with no one else in sight.
How many runs should we expect to ski each day?
We typically ski an average of 10 to 14 runs in a day, depending on group size, weather conditions, and skier ability levels. Our runs average 2,400 vertical feet, and our longest run tops out at a whopping 4,500 vertical feet.
Is heli-skiing safe?
We make your safety and peace of mind our first priority. By providing you with industry-leading safety gear, undergoing rigorous protocols aligned with Canada’s safety standards, and staffing our operation with experts with significant experience and training credentials, we continuously put your safety above all else. We’re equipped with seasoned pilots, allmountain monitoring, and the most advanced equipment available. We also intentionally keep our group sizes small, which allows us to emphasize personalized safety attention and an exceptional guest-to-guide ratio.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Here’s an idea of what your time at Revelstoke Lodge might look like, though your itinerary is likely to vary based on your customized specifications and trip length.
An avalanche safety training, a warm welcome, and a tasty dinner alongside the guides will kick off your adventure with us in British Columbia. One of the many highlights of this ski experience will be exploring the Valhallas, where deep river valleys, large subalpine lakes, and numerous mountains with castellated peaks will keep your skis busy all day. Because this is the
newest zone in the tenure, guests will have the opportunity to seek out never-before-skied runs and “claim it and name it,” making a mark on the terrain forever.
The Pinnacles come next, where favorites of guests and guides alike, such as “Bucket List” and “Sin City,” speak for themselves. The Cusson Zone has some amazing tree skiing and wide-open bowls, while the
Whatshan Zone has alpine chutes and rugged peaks. The grand finale is the Central Monashees, where you’ll make turns through old-growth cedar forests with giant, perfectly spaced trees in the “Sugar Zone.” Each day, in-field lunches are provided so that guests can focus on skiing, and après and dinner are served back at the lodge, about a 10-minute flight from the closest terrain.

We have two charming on-mountain chalets at Irwin, where your group will put on your ski boots, have lunch, and enjoy après. You’re also welcome to

Our guides will set the perfect skin track while pacing you and increasing your backcountry knowledge.
RESORT SKIING
The resort’s terrain is well suited for all levels of experience, so warm up on some mellow groomers and then take a turn on the infamous steeps. A DAY IN THE LIFE

It’s a popular choice to warm up on your first day at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, where extensive terrain and high-speed lifts make you feel like no time has passed since your last ski day. Our outpost at the base of the resort, primarily intended for Scarp Ridge Lodge guests, serves as a perfect meeting
spot to refuel with snacks and a midday lunch.
The following days, we’ll get into the backcountry. Chef-prepared breakfasts with eggs to order and a variety of local ingredients kickstart the day before you load up in our customized cat. After a ride like no other to the top of Irwin, deep powder and completely private use of the terrain make for a backcountry day straight out of your dreams. Throughout your stay, dive into
other adventures like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing, or indulge in a spa treatment followed by in-house après served by the stately fireplace. By nightfall, the hot tub is the most popular spot on property. SKIING Q+A
What is skiing in Iceland known for?
Heli-skiing on the Troll Peninsula is known not only for its beautiful rolling descents and steep couloirs leading all the way to the ocean, but also for its sunshine. The land of the midnight sun offers some of the most extended daylight hours on earth, giving intrepid skiers more time to rack up vertical. And thanks to a diversity of terrain, tackling untracked heli-ski descents on Iceland’s Arctic maritime snowpack is for the aggressive skier and the smooth cruiser alike. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the summit-tosea panorama surrounding you while skiing will take your breath away.
What is the terrain like in Iceland? How are the snow conditions?
With over 1,500 square miles of skiable terrain, we have a wide variety of options—think wide
open bowls, steep couloirs, and long runs from mountain peaks to the ocean shore. Iceland has a maritime snowpack, meaning that the snow conditions are very stable. You can expect a variety of conditions: sometimes spring-like, including smooth, buttery slopes and corn snow, and at other times, fresh powder.
Do you need to be an expert skier to heli-ski at Deplar Farm?
The vast terrain in Iceland means we have the flexibility to choose runs that are appropriate for your skill level. We recommend that guests be strong intermediate skiers to best enjoy the experience, and for you experts out there, don’t worry—there are plenty of challenging slopes for you to rip down. For those who prefer not to heli-ski, a plethora of additional adventures await: try fat biking, cross-country skiing, whale watching, horseback riding, or hiking.
When is the best time to heli-ski in Iceland?
Our season runs between mid-March to early June, which offers the most ideal combination of good snow, safe conditions, and longer daylight.
How much flight time and how many runs can we expect?
Each hour of flight time equates to about 8–10 runs averaging 2,500–3,500 feet of vertical. While the weather can sometimes inhibit us from flying, our variety of downday adventures will keep your cup full, and our guides’ ultimate goal is to ensure you get your fill of safe, incredible ski time.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Here’s an idea of what your time at Deplar Farm might look like, though your itinerary is likely to vary based on your customized specifications and trip length.
The first thing you’ll do when you arrive at Deplar Farm is explore the property on a welcome tour, which we can almost guarantee will exceed your wildest expectations. Next, get your ski gear fitted with your guides, who will then brief you on the trip plan. It’s never a bad idea to kick off your trip with a soak in our mystical outdoor pool, which boasts geothermally heated water and a swim-up bar.
Before each day of skiing, indulge in a chef-prepared breakfast concocted specially to fuel you for your big day. We’ll fly you to a variety
of warm-up runs so that you can get a feel for the terrain before we start zigzagging through the fjords and valleys with unfettered views of the cobalt blue North Atlantic Ocean. On-snow lunches will keep your battery charged so that you can keep shredding, while special lunches at our intimate outpost Ghost Farm make for a unique adventure. Another day, you’ll head straight to the heart of the Troll Peninsula, where the peaks are tall and the slopes are sprinkled with pocket glaciers. Back at the lodge, you’ll have the
opportunity to discover a new sense of wellness with our i-sopod flotation tanks and cutting-edge spa treatments.
Each evening, gourmet dinners prepared with local treasures from the neighboring land and sea delight your senses and re-energize your body before you hunker down for a luxurious night’s sleep. The last day, you’ll have the unique opportunity to ski big, bold runs and technical chutes all the way to the airport’s tarmac, where you switch from heli to fixed wing and depart the Troll Peninsula.

SKIING Q+A
Do you need to be an expert skier to heli-ski at Rio Palena?
Rio Palena Lodge’s terrain is so expansive and diverse that anyone confident on skis who’s comfortable exploring in a helicopter will thrive. Mellow, rolling terrain suits younger and newer skiers, while more seasoned skiers can rip down steeps that are frequently positioned right next to the easier terrain. As such, the heli-ski experience here is fantastic for families with varying degrees of experience and confidence. Of course, our access to extreme terrain is also extensive, beckoning serious skiers who seek to explore a truly wild region that very few have skied before.
What is the terrain like in Rio Palena?
The lodge is surrounded by the towering, snow-covered peaks of the Andes Mountains. Steep couloirs will get even the most experienced skier’s adrenaline pumping, while
powder-covered glaciers offer more approachable terrain for less ambitious skiers in your group. Skiing in this part of the world is truly unforgettable, and our guides are just the gurus to show you around.
If we want to take a day off or have non-skiers in our group, what else can we do?
One of the most unique aspects of Rio Palena Lodge’s heli-ski season is that the lower country around the lodge is typically dry this time of year. These summery conditions generally allow for easy access to waterfall hikes, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and stand-up paddleboarding. If you’re looking for a bit of downtime, the lodge offers the ultimate in refined amenities, delivering a tranquil sequence of fireside reading time, relaxation in the hot tubs and saunas, and view-laden après on the outdoor decks.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Here’s an idea of what your time at Rio Palena Lodge might look like, though your itinerary is likely to vary based on your customized specifications and trip length.
Upon arriving at Rio Palena Lodge, you’ll enjoy afternoon après, an itinerary briefing from your guides, and a tour of the property so you can make yourself at home before settling in for the evening. Morning departure times are based on a combination of weather safety protocols and your preferences. A chef-prepared breakfast will fuel you for the day ahead, which typically consists of a 10-minute heli-ride to the nearby
landing zones, followed by a day’s worth of lapping unlimited terrain.
In-field lunches are a popular choice so that you can keep charging, and as the end of the day nears, you can look forward to returning to fine cuts of local beef paired with Chilean wine. A dip in the hot tub and a cocktail are the perfect way to celebrate an epic day on the mountain before you turn into your exquisite suite for a long night’s rest.

SKIING Q+A
What makes New
Zealand
such an epic heli-skiing destination?
Particularly if you’re used to skiing the Northern Hemisphere, New Zealand offers incredible “summer” skiing that’s renowned for its diversity of exotic features, scenic landscapes, and remote terrain accessible only by helicopter. Depending on the aspect, you’ll find fantastic conditions including powder and corn, and ski vertical up to 1200 meters. Heli-skiing at Cedar Lodge promises a totally customizable, small-group experience that delivers the best of it all!
Is heli-skiing in New Zealand for everyone?
One of the benefits of heli-skiing and heli-boarding in New Zealand is that you don’t have to be a hardcore skier or snowboarder to enjoy it. The variety of terrain we can access, combined with our attention to personalizing the experience to your skill level, allows skiers of all types to ski confidently and safely.
What happens if there is inclement weather?
While our goal is to get you out skiing as much as you want, safety is our first priority, as inclement weather does occur here in the land of the long white cloud. When low visibility and strong winds deter us from flying, there’s a plethora of additional adventures you can enjoy. The weather in the valley around the lodge is more temperate than in the high country, so these activities are often just as fun as the skiing.
