ACTIVITIES GUIDE

WINTER ACTIVITIES Crested Butte is a true winter wonderland, and Eleven provides endless adventures just outside our doorstep. One guided adventure is included in each day of your stay. Read on to learn more about our favorites. Please connect with your Experience Team to book an activity for your group. SNOW CAT SKIING

Located just 10 miles west of Crested Butte, Irwin is a meteorological anomaly, meaning it snows A LOT here. Irwin often sees three times the amount of snow as the town of Crested Butte. The town of Irwin sits in the middle of the mountains—only accessible by snow cat or snowmobile in the winter. Whether tackling a narrow couloir or a gladed intermediate run, our snow cats access 1,000+ acres of skiable terrain. Most runs begin on Scarp Ridge, where views of the Elk Mountains glimpse 13,00014,000 foot peaks. Eleven has an active avalanche forecasting and mitigation program, which uses explosives for controlling activity. This keeps us skiing steep terrain confidently. We typically snag 8-10 runs per day, breaking for lunch. Expect après cocktails and snacks at our on-mountain chalet at the end of the day.

Activity Duration: 4-8 hours. Travel Time: 1 hour. Experience Level: Intermediate-Expert BACKCOUNTRY SKIING

The trophy of Crested Butte’s natural playground is the backcountry skiing. From open bowls to steep and secluded tree runs and big alpine peaks, our guides will show you the goods. New to backcountry skiing? Tackle mellow terrain on Snodgrass mountain with shorter approaches, gradual ascents, low angle runs, and open glades. It’s our guides’ job to know the local mountains intimately, and just as important to know how to put you on the right slope. Our guides are all avalanche experts and safety is paramount. You’ll be supplied with avalanche rescue gear, including a backpack, beacon, shovel, and probe.

Activity Duration: 4-8 hours. Travel Time: 5-20 minutes. Experience Level: Intermediate-Expert RESORT SKIING

Sometimes lift-service skiing is the perfect change of pace, and lucky for Eleven, Crested Butte Mountain Resort is right at its doorstep. CBMR has 15 lifts and 121 trails on 1,547 skiable acres. On average, terrain is 26% beginner, 57% intermediate and 17% advanced/expert. Ride or ski mellow groomers (the longest run—Peak to Treasury—is 2.6 miles, or 4.2 km long), bumps, or venture into the extreme terrain. CBMR is the perfect training ground for little rippers in the making, and the resort’s professional adult and kids’ ski school is one of the best in the country. Guests will often prep their ski legs at the resort before cat skiing or hitting the backcountry with our guides.

Activity Duration: 2-4 hours. Travel Time: 15 minutes. Experience Level: All Abilities CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Discover the enchanting world of Nordic skiing in the heart of the Elk Mountains. Crested Butte, the Nordic Ski Capital of Colorado, has 50 kilometers of pristine trails, perfect for classic and skate skiing, as well as snowshoeing. Accessible directly from town, this adventure promises incredible views and invigorating exercise.

Activity Duration: 1-3 hours. Travel Time: 5 minutes. Experience Level: All Abilities

9

SNOWSHOEING

Ideal for individuals, groups, families, or friends, our snowshoe tours marry fitness and fun in the Colorado backcountry. Slow down, enjoy your serene surroundings, and hike through snow-blanketed meadows, aspen glades, and dark timbered forests. The Crested Butte area features five different drainages, which means endless options for exploration. Tours can also be done near Irwin, so guests can meet up with family and friends during their day of cat skiing.

Activity Duration: 1-3 hours. Travel Time: 20 minutes. Experience Level: All Abilities ICE CLIMBING

Ouray and Lake City have developed their own ice parks as a global destination for ice enthusiasts. The user-friendly parks feature ice routes for all abilities and levels. Whether learning ice-climbing basics, or taking it a step further with a multi-day, intensive teaching progression to improve skills and climbing efficiency, Eleven will curate a fun, safe experience with professional guides. For more adventurous climbers that want a wilderness experience, the North San Juan Mountains surrounding Lake City offer moderate and long multi-pitch ice climbs, including the local gem “Sherman Falls”—a 4-pitch WI5 route.

Activity Duration: 2-4 hours. Travel Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes one way. Experience Level: All Abilities

WEATHER AND HOW TO PACK GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE WEATHER CONDITIONS BY MONTH WINTER (NOVEMBER- EARLY MARCH) Winter typically begins with snow dusting the mountain peaks, gradually blanketing the slopes by midDecember and the valley by mid-January. Periodic winter storms punctuate the season, occasionally lasting for multiple days. Snowy, overcast conditions usually bring milder temperatures, ranging from 10°F to 35°F, while clear winter skies can usher in single-digit temperatures.

SPRING (MID MARCH – APRIL) March brings variable weather, with early March still resembling winter conditions and a gradual shift toward spring-like weather by mid to late March. Temperatures start to rise, and the days lengthen. Moving into April, winter’s grip loosens as snowstorms give way to spring showers and brilliantly sunny days. Days become warmer, although evenings may still retain a touch of chill. Snowstorms can still occur, delivering fresh powder, or warmer temperatures might bring spring-ski conditions.
