ירושלים | פריז | תל-אביב פעמים רבות מנסה לשבש משהו בוירטואוזיות הנגלית במבט ראשון .הצבע מונח על גבי הבד באופן אשר מצהיר – זהו ציור .זו אינה המציאות או ציטוט שלה .זוהי מציאות בדויה ,מטולאת ,אשר צוברת כוח ומנסה לנכס חזרה אל עצמה מרחב ,שייכות. העבודות בתערוכה מזמינות את הצופה אל מרחב אמנותי שפועם בזכות עצמו ,באופן בלתי תלוי במציאות האמיתית.
חנה דוכן מתארת את המציאות המקיפה ומזינה אותה באופן שפוסע בין המימטי אל האישי. היא מחפשת מקום ,שורש ,שייכות ומוצאת אותם דרך יצירתם מחדש ,בציוריה. דוכן גדלה והתחנכה בצרפת ורכשה את הבסיס של תפיסתה האמנותית בין אולמות המוזיאונים הגדולים של פריז .בארץ ,למדה אמנות אצל ישראל הירשברג בסדנא בירושלים. המורשת שלה היא אירופאית ,יהודית; והמציאות שלה היא ישראלית ,נוסטלגית ,מתגעגעת. דרך ציוריה ,העולמות שלה ניתכים לכדי מציאות חדשה, שאינה תלויה בדבר.

היא מפרקת ובונה מחדש את הקומפוזיציות ,את המציאות; היא מציירת בירושלים את דיוקן בנה ומציבה אותו ,מתוך זיכרונה ,בתפאורה פריזאית טיפוסית )יהושע ,עמ‘ (20 או כשהיא מתארת סיטואציה בקיבוץ ומתכתבת עם ציורי טהיטי של גוגן )אלמז ,2עמ‘ .(11ממבט בעבודותיה נדמה שהיא ממזגת את כל העולמות האלו לכדי מציאות אחת, פיכחת ,אשר מפענחת את הדמויות ואת הנופים ומוצאת בהם נחמה אנושית. דוכן מתכתבת עם המאסטרים הגדולים של תולדות האמנות .במבט ראשון ,נושאיה הציוריים שאובים ממסורות של ציור קלאסי ,ציור לשם ציור .היא נוקטת באותה גישת אנטי-פתוס של הציירים הפלמיים ומתארת את הנגלה מולה .אלא שהציורים שלה מצליחים להיות אישיים מאוד, חושיים .הם משקפים חוויה של ניסיון להשתלב ,להיטמע, להכות שורש באדמה קשה. חנה מרבה לצאת ולצייר בחיק הטבע .שם היא מוצאת חיוּת ,אושר ,פוטנציאל להכות שורש .האור שהיא תופסת במהירות מהתל בצופה .מחד גיסא ,היא מציירת ארץ שטופת שמש ,ארץ מסנוורת .מאידך ,היא מתכנסת אל הסטודיו או אל חללים סגורים וחשוכים – שם ניתן לזהות את מושא הציור כמתווך משוכלל אשר מבטא הלכי נפש, מצב רוח. הטכניקה הציורית ,אשר מבוססת על תפיסה ריאליסטית, 4

JERUSALEM | PARIS | TEL AVIV Hanna Doukhan describes her nurturing surrounding as she wanders through the mimetic aspect of reality to the personal one. She seeks for a sense of belonging, a place to settle down and she finds it by recreating this experience in her paintings. Doukhan grew up and acquired her education in France. The foundations of her artistic perception were molded between the halls of the great museums of Paris. After her move to Israel, she studied art at Israel Herschberg‘s workshop in Jerusalem.
Hanna tends to paint outdoors, in the bosom of nature where she finds vitality, happiness and the potential to fuse in. She captures the light in a way that is ambiguous to the viewer. She paints a very bright and dazzling country, but at the same time she withdraws into studios or other close and dark spaces. There she finds the painted object to be a sophisticated mediator, which enables the comprehension of the thoughts and feelings expressed. Though based on realistic approach, her technique aims, in many of the paintings, to disrupt the virtuosity grasped at first glance.
Her paintings embody her Jewish- European heritage on one hand and her longing and nostalgic Israeli reality on the other. Her two worlds dissolve together into a new and detached reality. She takes apart and rebuilds the compositions, her reality; she places her son in a Jerusalem room while setting a Parisian mirror, floor and wallpaper (Yeoshua page 20). She describes a kibbutz scenery as she refers to Gauguin’s descriptions of Tahiti (Almaz 2 page 11) It seems as if she unites all these worlds into one sober reality that helps interpreting the figures and landscapes and finding the human compassion embodied within.
The paint is put on the canvas in a way that declares: This is a painting. This is neither the reality nor a quotation of reality. This reality is a fictive and patched one, which gains strength and attempts to asset back space and a sense of belonging. The paintings in this exhibition invite the viewer to an autonomic space, which does not depend on the authentic reality.

Doukhan refers to the great masters of the history of art. It may seem as if the subjects of her paintings are taken from classical painting traditions: “painting for the sake of painting”. She seemingly shares the same anti- pathos approach of the Flemish painters and depicts what is revealed to her. However, her paintings manage to preserve a very personal and sensorial feeling. They reflect the outsider’s experience, the desire to fit in, to be assimilated, to strike roots in hard soil. 29
