String a quick, light-catching necklace with leaf- and petal-shaped beads Things might be a bit frosty outside, but you can capture the promise of spring with this simply strung combination of crystal, glass, and clear-plastic beads. Experiment with nature’s endless color combinations to find the bit of greenery that suits you best.

Determine the finished length of your necklace. (Mine is 19 in./48cm.) Add 7 in. (18cm) and cut a piece of beading wire to that length. Center a 150 seed bead on the wire and pull both ends through the focal bead and the round bead. Pull the 150 into the focal bead until it is lodged inside. If it goes all the way through, try a larger seed bead.

Repeat the pattern in step 3a on each end until the necklace is within 1 in. (2.5cm) of the desired length. On one end, string an 110, two bicones, a crimp bead, and a jump ring. Go back through the beads just strung. Tighten the wire. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Crimp the crimp bead (Basics) and trim the excess wire. Repeat on the other end, substituting a clasp for the jump ring. ✤
