Gordon Davidson is an internationally recognised, innovative and energetic artist. A graduate in industrial design, he is constantly exploring new ideas, challenges and materials, often in different combinations over extended periods of time to develop the images and structures he wants. He than applies his tremendous energy drive and enthusiasm to bringing these images into being. His work has evolved over a 30-year period from a grounding in Scottish and European landscapes, to free flowing ‘landscapes of the mind’ based loosely on countries where he has worked and lived. He draws on and celebrates images from rich and diverse cultures and puts these into contemporary contexts that forge links with past and present. He currently divides his time between his studios in Edinburgh and Marrakech, where the richness and vibrancy of Moroccan colour and design has opened up new avenues for exploration. He is also looking to establish further cross-cultural links between Scotland and Morocco based on shared passion for the creative process.
