ONE STEP AHEAD A collective exhibition of works by BettyBellù - Noel Shelly - Patrizia Dottori The expression and communication of emotions is one of the most basic motives for artists both in dance as in visual art. The dance creates a very different perception of time and space for the dancer: time is marked by the rhythmic ordering of movement and by the duration of the dance, and space is organised around the paths along which
Patrizia Dottori Music, synchrony, movement: people, rhythms colours and smells evoked through the images of a journey, at once transverse and synchronous, in which geography becomes space between past and future. From Cuban rituals to dancers in the desert, from African rhythms to American Indians, from Argentine tango to Bombay players, the time intervals of music and body movement emerge as if only the electrocution of photographic synchronism can leave intact its dynamic suggestions. Space and time chase each other in an attempt to recompose each other to the rhythm of the shutter release. The objective asks the music for the lymph necessary to respond once again to the profound reasons of its semantic root.
the dancer travels or around the shapes made by the body. Grace fluidly of movements, equilibrium, and harmony are among the skills which are required by dancers who use bodies as the instruments through which the art is created. Costumes, rhythms, sequences of steps dance evokes traditions and history, guiding our imagination into new and fantastic places. Four visual artists have used different media to interpret the dance world. From ballet and contemporary dance to the rhythms of South American and African tribal dances where movement and dresses evoke beauty and emotions.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS BettyBellù Their collection of recent paintings explores the feminine world and the sensibility of the two artists. Anna and Betty started their journey working together, four hands on the same canvas, mixing together technique and fantasy. Anna is more attracted by watercolours while Betty by street art. Their initial work firstly stood out because of a strong taste in aesthetics - women dresses, accessories and everyday objects – in their new works, a change of style occurred, bringing a new sensuality to the bodies and faces of young women using original skill. The works of BettyBellù are created using spatula and a mixture of acrylic, ash and glue or a blend of old tools, iron objects, wood, steel, to produce a strong material effect and to identify the two artists in the new green and eco-friendly trends.
Noel Shelley is a Fine Art Photographer living and working in London. He followed up an MA in History of Art, at St Andrews University, with a postgraduate qualification in Theory and Practice of Photography. Noel then moved from Scotland to London and studied practical Fashion Photography (BA) at London College of Fashion. After having worked for the department of Photographs at Christie’s Auction House and running the in-house photography studio at Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers, Noel started working in the Fashion industry. Photographing for established brands such as Anya Hindmarch, Balmain, Belstaff, Jimmy Choo and Mary Katrantzou gave Noel the experience of working with top international brands, designers, stylists, makeup artists and models in both London and Italy. Working now in the world of Fine Art, London and Paris, Noel has brought together his knowledge of multiple studio and location techniques. This concentration on lighting, shape, form and texture has become a feature of his current Dance themed work. The Dance Project 2018 represents a range of dancers from the worlds of classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance. This project involves the bringing together of established dance artists from The Royal Ballet and Trinity Laban with next generation talent. This series of studio based photography and portraiture depicts the dancer as an independent and iconic artist in their own right. Noel has recently returned from documenting the current production of Tenome with Edifice Dance Theatre and has recently collaborated with B-Hybrid Dance for Masc 4 Marginalisation at The Place. The photographs featured in this exhibition represent a small selection of work from The Dance Project 2018 and showcase a range of incredible local and international talent within the industry.
